વાંઠવાળીમાં ઉત્તમભાઈ પટેલ અને ગુલાબગર બાવાજીના મનની ગુપ્ત ઇચ્છા જાણી શ્રીહરિએ સભામાં બે-બે કેરીઓ વહેંચી પોતાની ભગવત્તા સિદ્ધ કરી; સત્સંગથી પ્રભાવિત થઈ ગુલાબગર બાવાજીએ પોતાની જમીન વડતાલ લક્ષ્મીનારાયણ દેવને અર્પણ કરી મંદિર બનાવ્યું.
એક સમયે સંતો સત્સંગ વિચરણ કરતાં ચરોતરના વાંઠવાળી ગામે પધાર્યા. ગામના ચોરે બેઠેલા મુમુક્ષુ ઉત્તમભાઈ પટેલ અને બાવાજી ગુલાબગર સંતોના આચાર-વિચાર જોઈ અત્યંત પ્રભાવિત થઈ સત્સંગી બન્યા. તેમણે સંતોના મુખે કળિકાળમાં પ્રગટ પુરુષોત્તમ સર્વાવતારી ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણના અપાર મહિમાની વાતો સાંભળી, પરંતુ અંતરમાં સો ટકા પાકો નિશ્ચય થવો બાકી હતો. બંનેએ નક્કી કર્યું કે જ્યારે પણ શ્રીહરિ સાક્ષાત્ પધારશે ત્યારે મનની કસોટી કરીને જ પૂર્ણ ભગવાનપણાનો નિશ્ચય કરવો.
બંને મુમુક્ષુઓની મનોકામના પૂર્ણ કરવા શ્રીજીમહારાજ સંતો અને હરિભક્તોના સંઘ સાથે વાંઠવાળી પધાર્યા. ગામજનોએ ભવ્ય સામૈયું કર્યું અને ગુલાબગર બાવાજીની જગ્યામાં શ્રીહરિની સભા ભરાઈ. ઉત્તમભાઈ અને ગુલાબગરે પોતાની વાડીમાંથી ઉતારેલા બે મોટા ટોપલા ભરીને પાકી કેરીઓ શ્રીહરિ સમક્ષ મૂકી. મનમાં એવો ગુપ્ત સંકલ્પ કર્યો: ‘જો સ્વામિનારાયણ સાક્ષાત્ અંતર્યામી ભગવાન હોય, તો આ બંને ટોપલામાંથી પોતાના હાથે જ સભામાં બેઠેલા સૌને બબ્બે કેરીઓ વહેંચે, અને છેલ્લે માત્ર બે જ કેરીઓ વધે જે પોતે જમવા રાખે… તો જ અમે તેમને ભગવાન માનીએ!’
ઘટઘટના જાણહાર શ્રીજીમહારાજ મંદ મંદ હસ્યા અને બોલ્યા, “આવો! આજે તો આ ઉત્તમભાઈ પટેલની વાડીની મીઠી કેરીઓ સૌને જમાડીએ! સૌ વારાફરતી આવો, અમે અમારા હાથે જ પ્રસાદી આપીશું.” શ્રીહરિએ પોતાના પાવન હસ્તે સભામાં ઉપસ્થિત પ્રત્યેક સંત અને હરિભક્તને બરાબર બબ્બે કેરીઓ આપી; ઉત્તમભાઈ અને ગુલાબગરને પણ બબ્બે કેરીઓ આપી. સમગ્ર સભાને વહેંચ્યા પછી ટોપલામાં બરાબર ચાર કેરીઓ વધી!
એ જ સમયે ગામની બજારમાંથી ખભે અબોટિયું નાંખી એક ગરીબ ભિક્ષુક બ્રાહ્મણ પસાર થયો. શ્રીહરિએ તેને ઇશારો કરી બોલાવ્યો અને ખડખડાટ હસતાં કહ્યું, “હે બ્રહ્મદેવતા! આવો, આજે તમે પણ કેરીઓ જમો; શેરડી પાછળ એરંડીને પણ પાણી મળી ગયું જાણજો!” એમ કહી તેને બે કેરીઓ આપી દીધી. હવે ટોપલામાં બરાબર બે કેરીઓ વધી! શ્રીહરિએ તે બંને કેરીઓ મુળજી બ્રહ્મચારીને સોંપતાં કહ્યું, “આ અમારા થાળમાં વાપરજો!”
પોતાનો અણકહ્યો સંકલ્પ અક્ષરશઃ સિદ્ધ થયેલો જોઈ ઉત્તમભાઈ પટેલ અને ગુલાબગર બાવાજી સ્તબ્ધ થઈ ગયા! બંનેએ દોડી આવી શ્રીહરિના ચરણોમાં સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કર્યા અને પ્રભુના હાથે જ કંઠી તથા પંચવર્તમાન ધારણ કર્યા. પાછળથી ગુલાબગર બાવાજીએ પોતાની જમીનમાં ભવ્ય હરિમંદિર કરાવી તે જમીનનો પાકો દસ્તાવેજ વડતાલ શ્રી લક્ષ્મીનારાયણ દેવના ચરણે અર્પણ કરી દીધો.

वांथवाली गाँव में उत्तमभाई पटेल और साधु गुलाबगर संतों के उपदेश से सत्संग की ओर आकर्षित हुए, किंतु उनके मन में श्रीहरि के भगवान होने की अंतिम परीक्षा लेना शेष था।
जब श्रीजी महाराज संघ सहित वांथवाली पधारे, तो गुलाबगर के स्थान पर सभा हुई। दोनों ने आम के दो टोकरे प्रभु के सम्मुख रखे और मन में गुप्त संकल्प किया: ‘यदि ये साक्षात् ईश्वर हैं, तो अपने हाथों से सबको दो-दो आम बाँटें और अंत में ठीक दो आम ही शेष बचें जो वे स्वयं आरोगें!’
अंतर्यामी श्रीहरि ने मुस्कुराते हुए सबको कतार में बुलाकर अपने हाथों से ठीक दो-दो आम बाँटे। अंत में चार आम बचे, तो सड़क से गुजरते एक निर्धन ब्राह्मण को बुलाकर दो आम दे दिए और कहा, “लो विप्रदेव, गन्ने के साथ अरंडी को भी पानी मिल गया!” अब टोकरे में ठीक दो आम बचे, जो प्रभु ने मूलजी ब्रह्मचारी को देकर कहा, “ये हमारे थाल में उपयोग करना!”
अपना गुप्त संकल्प पूर्ण होते देख उत्तमभाई और गुलाबगर प्रभु चरणों में गिर पड़े और अनन्य भक्त बने। बाद में गुलाबगर बाबाजी ने अपनी भूमि पर मंदिर बनवाकर उसका स्वामित्व वडताल लक्ष्मीनारायण देव को समर्पित कर दिया।

Uttambhai Patel and Gulabgar Bawaji of Vanthwali: The Mango Resolution and Dedication of Land to Vadtal Mandir
In the village of Vanthwali in the Charotar region, two earnest seekers—a farmer named Uttambhai Patel and an ascetic named Gulabgar Bawaji—embraced Satsang through the spiritual discourses of visiting sadhus. Yet, an inner longing lingered to verify the supreme divinity of Bhagwan Swaminarayan through a direct test.
To fulfill their spiritual quest, Shreeji Maharaj arrived in Vanthwali with a large assembly of saints and devotees, holding a congregation at Gulabgar’s hermitage. Uttambhai and Gulabgar brought two large baskets of ripe mangoes from their orchards, placing them before Maharaj with a confidential test in their hearts: ‘If Swaminarayan is indeed the omniscient Supreme Being, He must distribute exactly two mangoes with His own hands to every person present in the assembly, and at the end, exactly two mangoes must remain for Him to consume!’
Reading their unspoken thoughts with a divine smile, Shreeji Maharaj announced, “Come forward, everyone! Today We shall treat you all to sweet mangoes from Uttambhai’s orchard!” One by one, every devotee and saint stepped forward, and Shrihari personally handed each person precisely two mangoes. After everyone had received their share, exactly four mangoes remained in the basket.
At that precise instant, an impoverished Brahmin mendicant walked along the adjacent street. Gesturing toward him, Shrihari called out with joyous laughter, “O holy Brahmin! Come partake of sweet mangoes today; consider that along with sugarcane, the castor plant too has received irrigation!” Shrihari handed him two mangoes. Exactly two mangoes were left in the basket! Shrihari handed them to Mulji Brahmachari, saying, “Keep these two for Our sacred thal!”
Seeing their exact inner test fulfilled to the absolute letter, Uttambhai Patel and Gulabgar Bawaji were overwhelmed with spiritual ecstasy. Falling prostrate at Shrihari’s lotus feet, they received initiation into the Satsang fold. Later, Gulabgar constructed a beautiful Swaminarayan temple on his land and deeded the entire property to Shree Laxminarayan Dev of Vadtal.
