વડતાલ જ્ઞાનબાગમાં શ્રીહરિની છડીના સ્પર્શથી ઝૂમખરામના પાપો નાશ પામ્યા; અખંડ મૂર્તિ દેખાતાં સંસાર વ્યવહારમાં અડચણ પડતાં પ્રભુએ સ્વેચ્છા દર્શનનું વરદાન દીધું.
એક સમયે પૂર્ણ પુરુષોત્તમ શ્રીજીમહારાજ ભવ્ય સમૈયો કરવા સંતો અને હરિભક્તો સાથે વડતાલ પધાર્યા હતા. દેશદેશાંતરના હરિભક્તોને કંકોતરીઓ પાઠવીને તેડાવ્યા હતા.
એક દિવસ રાત્રિના સમયે વડતાલના જ્ઞાનબાગમાં પૂર્વ દિશાના આંબલીના વૃક્ષ સમીપે મશાલોના દિવ્ય અજવાળે આશરે દસ હજાર હરિભક્તોની વિશાળ સભા ભરાઈ હતી. શ્રીજીમહારાજ સભાની મધ્યમાં ઊભા રહીને ધર્મ, જ્ઞાન, ભક્તિ અને વૈરાગ્યની ગહન કથાવાર્તા કરી રહ્યા હતા.
તે સમયે ઉત્તર ગુજરાતના વિસનગર શહેરના પ્રતિષ્ઠિત, સાત્ત્વિક બ્રાહ્મણ શેઠ ઝૂમખરામ પણ શ્રીહરિ અને સંતોના દર્શનાર્થે વડતાલ આવેલા અને સભામાં આગળ બેસીને કથા સાંભળતા હતા. દિવસભરના થાકને લીધે કથા દરમિયાન ઝૂમખરામ બેઠા બેઠા ઝોલાં ખાવા લાગ્યા. અંતર્યામી શ્રીહરિએ તેમને ઊંઘતા જોઈ પોતાની સોનાની મૂઠવાળી લાકડી (છડી) હળવેકથી ઝૂમખરામના ખભા પર અડાડીને જગાડ્યા.
સભા પૂર્ણ થયા બાદ જ્યારે સર્વે દર્શન કરીને વિખેરાયા, ત્યારે શેઠ ઝૂમખરામ શ્રીહરિ સન્મુખ આવ્યા અને સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કરી હાથ જોડી પૂછ્યું: “હે પ્રભુ! આપ તો અંતર્યામી દયાળુ છો, આપે સભા વચ્ચે મને છડી કેમ અડાડી?” શ્રીજીમહારાજે મંદ મંદ હસતાં એક પરમ રહસ્ય ઉદ્ઘાટન કરતાં કહ્યું: “ઝૂમખરામ! પૂર્વજન્મમાં જ્યારે દૈત્યરાજ હિરણ્યકશિપુએ બાળક પ્રહલાદજીને મારી નાખવા માટે પોતાના સૈનિકોને આજ્ઞા કરી હતી, ત્યારે તું અસુર યોનિમાં હોવા છતાં તારા અંતરમાં દયા ઉપજેલી અને તેં પ્રહલાદજીનું ગુપ્ત રીતે રક્ષણ કર્યું હતું! એ પુણ્યના પ્રતાપે અનેક જન્મો ધારણ કર્યા બાદ આ જન્મમાં તને પવિત્ર બ્રાહ્મણ કુળમાં માનવ દેહ મળ્યો છે! આજે તને અમારો સાક્ષાત્ યોગ થયો છે, તેથી આ છડીનો સ્પર્શ કરાવીને અમે તારા કરોડો જન્મોના સંચિત પાપોને હંમેશ માટે મારી ભગાડ્યા છે!”
પોતાના પૂર્વજન્મની આ અદ્ભુત સત્ય ઘટના સાંભળી ઝૂમખરામ ગદગદ થઈ ગયા અને પ્રભુના ચરણોમાં વારંવાર દંડવત પ્રણામ કરવા લાગ્યા. સભામાં ઉપસ્થિત સર્વે સંતો-હરિભક્તો શ્રીહરિના આ દિવ્ય જ્ઞાન અને કૃપા જોઈ સ્તબ્ધ થઈ ગયા.
પરંતુ તે દિવસથી શ્રીહરિની છડીના સ્પર્શથી એક અનોખો ચમત્કાર થયો! શેઠ ઝૂમખરામને શ્રીજીમહારાજની મોહક મૂર્તિની અખંડ સ્મૃતિ થઈ ગઈ! તેઓ જાગતા હોય, સૂતા હોય, ખાતા-પીતા હોય કે સ્નાન કરતા હોય—પ્રત્યેક ક્રિયામાં સાક્ષાત્ શ્રીહરિની તેજોમય મૂર્તિ તેમની આંખો સામે પ્રત્યક્ષ દેખાવા લાગી! આ અખંડ દિવ્ય દર્શનથી ઝૂમખરામનો સંસાર વ્યવહાર થંભી ગયો. તેઓ દુકાન કે ઘરનું કોઈ કામકાજ કરી શકતા નહોતા. મૂંઝાઈને તેઓ એક દિવસ શ્રીહરિ સમીપે આવ્યા અને પોક મૂકીને રડવા લાગ્યા!
શ્રીહરિએ તેમને શાંત પાડતાં પૂછ્યું: “ઝૂમખરામ! કેમ રડો છો? શું દુઃખ છે?” ઝૂમખરામે રડતાં રડતાં કહ્યું: “હે મહારાજ! આપની મૂર્તિનું અખંડ સુખ તો અપરંપાર છે, પરંતુ આ અખંડ દર્શનને કારણે હું ઘર-સંસારની કોઈ ક્રિયા કરી શકતો નથી! મારે વૃદ્ધ માતા-પિતા છે, નાનો ભાઈ છે અને સમગ્ર પરિવારના ભરણપોષણની જવાબદારી મારા એકલાના માથે છે; જો હું કામ ન કરું તો પરિવાર ભૂખે મરી જાય! હું વ્યવહાર કેવી રીતે ચલાવું?”
શ્રીજીમહારાજે હસીને કહ્યું: “ઝૂમખરામ! જો તને અખંડ દર્શન અનુકૂળ ન આવતું હોય, તો જા, હવેથી અમારી મૂર્તિ નહીં દેખાય!” ત્યારે ઝૂમખરામે વિનંતી કરી: “ના ના મહારાજ! એવું નહીં! પરંતુ જ્યારે હું દુકાનેથી પરવારીને સંધ્યાકાળે આપનું ધ્યાન ધરવા બેસું કે આપને સંભારું, ત્યારે જ આપની મૂર્તિ મને સાક્ષાત્ દેખાવી જોઈએ!” શ્રીહરિએ પ્રસન્ન થઈ વરદાન આપ્યું: “તથાસ્તુ! તું જ્યારે જ્યારે ઇચ્છા કરીશ અને સ્મરણ કરીશ, ત્યારે ત્યારે અમારી સાક્ષાત્ મૂર્તિ તને પ્રત્યક્ષ દેખાશે!”
શ્રીહરિના આ દિવ્ય વરદાનથી શેઠ ઝૂમખરામ આજીવન જ્યારે જ્યારે આંખો મીંચી ધ્યાન કરતા, ત્યારે ત્યારે શ્રીજીમહારાજનાં સાક્ષાત્ દર્શન પ્રાપ્ત કરી પરમ સુખ ભોગવતા રહ્યા.

वडताल के ज्ञानबाग में रात्रि सभा में विसनगर के सेठ झूमखराम झपकी ले रहे थे। श्रीजीमहाराज ने छड़ी से उन्हें जगाया।
पूछने पर श्रीहरि ने रहस्य बताया कि पूर्वजन्म में असुर योनि में होते हुए भी तुमने प्रह्लादजी की रक्षा की थी। उस पुण्य से आज हमारा योग हुआ और छड़ी के स्पर्श से तुम्हारे समस्त पाप नष्ट हो गए।
उस स्पर्श से झूमखराम को श्रीजी की मूर्ति का अखंड दर्शन होने लगा, जिससे वे सांसारिक कार्य न कर सके। झूमखराम ने रोकर प्रार्थना की कि वृद्ध माता-पिता और परिवार का पालन रुक गया है। श्रीहरि ने आशीर्वाद दिया: “जब तुम ध्यान करोगे, तभी तुम्हें हमारी मूर्ति प्रत्यक्ष दिखेगी!” इस वरदान से वे इच्छानुसार प्रभु दर्शन पाते रहे।

Touch of the Divine Cane in Vadtal: Sheth Zhumakhram of Visnagar, Prahlad’s Past-Life Protection, and Vision at Will
On one grand occasion, Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj arrived in Vadtal with an assembly of revered sadhus and devotees to celebrate a major spiritual festival, dispatching ceremonial invitations across all regions.
One evening, in the Jnanbag orchard of Vadtal near an ancient tamarind tree to the east, an assembly of nearly ten thousand devotees gathered under the warm glow of torches. Standing in the center of the congregation, Shreeji Maharaj was delivering profound discourses on righteousness (dharma), spiritual knowledge (gyan), devotion (bhakti), and detachment (vairagya).
Among the audience sat Sheth Zhumakhram, a pious, respected Brahmin householder from Visnagar in North Gujarat, who had traveled to Vadtal for the Lord’s darshan. Fatigued by the arduous journey, Zhumakhram began dozing off in the middle of the sermon. Perceiving him nodding off, omniscient Shreehari gently approached and tapped Zhumakhram’s shoulder with His golden-handled walking stick (chhadi) to awaken him.
When the assembly concluded and the crowd dispersed, Sheth Zhumakhram approached Shreehari, fell prostrate at His lotus feet, and asked with folded hands: “O Merciful Lord! Why did You tap me with Your cane in the midst of the gathering?” Shreeji Maharaj smiled gently and unveiled a cosmic mystery from the distant past: “Zhumakhram! In a past life, when the demon king Hiranyakashipu ordered his guards to execute child Prahlad, you were born into the demonic race; yet compassioned stirred within your heart and you secretly protected Prahlad! Due to that extraordinary spiritual merit, after taking many births, you attained this pure Brahmin human birth! Today, you have attained direct communion with Us; therefore, by touching you with Our cane, We have thoroughly eradicated the accumulated karmic sins of your countless past lifetimes!”
Hearing this staggering past-life revelation directly from the Lord’s lips, tears of overwhelmed gratitude cascaded down Zhumakhram’s cheeks as he prostrated again and again. The surrounding sadhus and householders marvelled at Shreehari’s omniscience.
However, that single divine touch of the cane produced an astounding spiritual effect! From that very night, Sheth Zhumakhram experienced constant, uninterrupted darshan of Shreeji Maharaj’s enchanting form! Whether waking, resting, eating, bathing, or walking—the luminous, smiling form of Shreehari danced continuously before his physical and spiritual vision! This unbroken vision of God brought his worldly existence to an absolute standstill. He could neither attend to his business nor manage household chores. Utterly overwhelmed and unable to function, he rushed back to Shreehari one day and wept uncontrollably!
Shreehari gently consoled him: “Zhumakhram! Why do you weep so bitterly? What troubles your heart?” Zhumakhram sobbed: “O Maharaj! The bliss of Your divine form is boundless, but this continuous vision renders me completely incapable of performing any worldly duties! I have elderly parents, a young dependent brother, and the entire livelihood of my family rests upon my shoulders alone! If I cannot work, my family will starve! How can I maintain my household?”
Shreeji Maharaj chuckled: “Zhumakhram! If unbroken vision does not suit your worldly duties, then go—henceforth Our murti will not appear!” Zhumakhram quickly clarified: “No, no, Maharaj! Not like that! But whenever I conclude my daily work and sit down in evening meditation or consciously remember You, Your divine form must manifest vividly before me!” Pleased with his earnest devotion, Shreehari granted the boon: “So be it! Whenever you desire and contemplate Us, Our divine form shall appear vividly before your eyes!”
Through this divine benediction, Sheth Zhumakhram lived a harmonious life, effortlessly beholding the direct, vibrant presence of Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj whenever he closed his eyes in contemplation.
