સારંગ ગામના ખેડૂત રામભાઈને રામાનંદ સ્વામીએ ખેતરમાંથી જ વૈરાગ્ય પમાડી સાધુ કર્યા અને ‘રામદાસ’ (ભાઈરામદાસ) નામ આપ્યું. શ્રીહરિ તેમને મોટા ગુરુભાઈ ગણી પૂજ્યભાવ રાખતા. સંવત ૧૮૭૬ જેઠ વદ છઠ્ઠે તેઓ અક્ષરધામ પધાર્યા.
સદગુરુ રામાનંદ સ્વામી વિચરણ કરતાં કરતાં સારંગ ગામની સીમમાંથી પસાર થઈ રહ્યા હતા. તે વખતે રામભાઈ નામે એક ખેડૂત પોતાના ખેતરમાં બળદો જોડીને શાંતિથી સાંતી હાંકી રહ્યા હતા. રામાનંદ સ્વામીએ તેમને જોતાં જ પૂર્વના મહામુક્ત તરીકે ઓળખી લીધા અને નજીક જઈને ગંભીર વાણીમાં કહ્યું: “રામભાઈ! આમ કેટલા જન્મ સુધી ખેતરમાં સાંતી હાંક્યા કરશો?” સદગુરુના આટલા શબ્દો કાને પડતાં જ રામભાઈના અંતરમાં વૈરાગ્યનો પ્રચંડ અગ્નિ પ્રગટ્યો! તેમણે હળ-સાંતી ખેતરમાં જ છોડી દીધાં અને સીધા સ્વામીની પાછળ ચાલી નીકળ્યા!
ગુરુદેવ રામાનંદ સ્વામીએ તેમને ભાગવતી દીક્ષા આપી ‘રામદાસ સ્વામી’ (ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામી) નામ ધારણ કરાવ્યું. તેઓ રામાનંદ સ્વામીના સૌપ્રથમ શિષ્ય બન્યા. આત્માનંદ સ્વામીની અંતિમ અવસ્થામાં પણ ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામીએ બે વર્ષ સુધી એમની અનન્ય સેવા કરી હતી.
શ્રીજીમહારાજ જ્યારે સત્સંગની ધુરા સંભાળીને વિચરણ કરતા, ત્યારે ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામીનો સદાય વડીલ ગુરુભાઈ તરીકે પૂજ્યભાવ જાળવતા. એક વખત અમદાવાદમાં ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામીએ શ્રીહરિને ફૂલોની સુંદર ટોપી પહેરાવી સન્માન કર્યું. ભોજન વખતે શ્રીહરિએ મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામી અને ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામીને પોતાની સાથે પંગતમાં બેસાડ્યા. ત્યારે ભાઈસ્વામી બોલ્યા: “હે શ્રીહરિ! આપની સાથે બેસીને જમવાનો લાભ મળ્યો એ મારા પરમ અહોભાગ્ય છે!”
થોડા સમય પછી સુંદરજી સુતારનો ગર્વ ઉતારવા શ્રીહરિએ ૧૮ અગ્રણી ગૃહસ્થોને પત્ર લખી તત્કાળ સર્વસ્વ ત્યજી સાધુ થવા ભુજ તેડાવ્યા. આ ઘટનાથી જ્ઞાતિજનો અને સમાજમાં મોટો હોબાળો મચ્યો. આ પરિસ્થિતિ જાણી ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામી જેતલપુરથી સીધા ભુજ પહોંચ્યા અને એકાંતમાં શ્રીહરિને વિનંતી કરી: “મહારાજ! આપે મોટા મોટા દરબારો, જમીનદારો અને શ્રીમંતોને એકઝાટકે સાધુ બનાવ્યા તેનાથી સમાજમાં સંપ્રદાય પ્રત્યે મોટો વિરોધ ઊભો થયો છે.” શ્રીહરિ હસીને બોલ્યા: “ભાઈસ્વામી! એ સર્વેને દીક્ષા આપવા પાછળનું મોટું રહસ્ય છે. એમનામાંથી કેટલાકના માથે ખોટા કલંક આવવાના હતા, કેટલાકનું આયુષ્ય પૂરું થઈ ગયું હતું, અને કેટલાકને કુટુંબીઓ સાથે ભારે વેર થવાનું હતું. આ તમામ વિપત્તિઓ નિવારવા અમે એમને પરમહંસ કર્યા છે; હવે એમનો નવો અવતાર થઈ ગયો હોવાથી સંકટો ટળી ગયાં છે!” શ્રીહરિએ સર્વેને સન્માનપૂર્વક પાઘડીઓ બંધાવી પુનઃ ઘેર મોકલ્યા.
ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામી મોટાભાગે ગઢપુરમાં રહેતા. શ્રીહરિ સભામાં તેમને સદાય ઊંચા આસને બેસાડતા અને કહેતા: “મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામી અને ભાઈસ્વામી સત્સંગના આધારસ્તંભ છે, તેઓ છે ત્યાં સુધી અમને કોઈ ચિંતા નથી!” સંવત ૧૮૭૬ના જેઠ વદ છઠ્ઠ (૪ જુલાઈ ૧૮૨૦)ના રોજ ભાઈરામદાસ સ્વામીએ ગઢપુરમાં શ્રીહરિની સાનિધ્યમાં પંચભૌતિક દેહ ત્યાગી અક્ષરધામમાં પ્રયાણ કર્યું.

सारंग गाँव के कृषक रामभाई से सद्गुरु भैरामदास स्वामी का प्राकट्य और श्रीहरि के प्रति अनन्य निष्ठा
सद्गुरु रामानन्द स्वामी विचरण करते हुए सारंग गाँव की सीमा से होकर निकल रहे थे। उस समय रामभाई नामक एक किसान अपने खेत में हल चला रहे थे। रामानन्द स्वामी ने उन्हें देखते ही पूर्व जन्म के महामुक्त के रूप में पहचान लिया और समीप जाकर गंभीर स्वर में कहा: “रामभाई! ऐसे कितने जन्मों तक खेत में हल चलाते रहोगे?” सद्गुरु के ये शब्द सुनते ही रामभाई के अंतःकरण में तीव्र वैराग्य जागृत हो उठा! उन्होंने हल-बैल खेत में ही छोड़ दिए और बिना मुड़े स्वामीजी के पीछे चल पड़े!
गुरुदेव रामानन्द स्वामी ने उन्हें भागवती दीक्षा प्रदान कर ‘रामदास स्वामी’ (जिन्हें सत्संग में आदर से ‘भाईरामदास स्वामी’ कहा जाता था) नाम दिया। वे रामानन्द स्वामी के सर्वप्रथम शिष्य बने। आत्मानन्द स्वामी की अंतिम अवस्था में भी उन्होंने दो वर्षों तक उनकी अगाध सेवा की थी।
जब श्रीजी महाराज ने सत्संग की बागडोर संभाली, तो वे भाईरामदास स्वामी को बड़े गुरुभाई मानकर उनका अत्यधिक आदर करते थे। एक बार अहमदाबाद में भाईरामदास स्वामी ने श्रीहरि को पुष्पों की सुंदर टोपी पहनाई। भोजन के समय श्रीहरि ने मुक्तानन्द स्वामी और भाईस्वामी को अपने साथ बैठाया। तब भाईस्वामी बोले: “हे श्रीहरि! आपके साथ भोजन करने का सौभाग्य मिला, यह मेरा परम अहोभाग्य है!”
कालांतर में सुंदरजी सुतार का अहंकार दूर करने हेतु श्रीहरि ने १८ प्रतिष्ठित गृहस्थों को पत्र लिखकर तुरंत वैराग्य धारण कर भुज आने की आज्ञा दी। इस घटना से समाज में तीव्र हलचल मच गई। यह जानकर भाईरामदास स्वामी जेतलपुर से तुरंत भुज पहुँचे और एकांत में श्रीहरि से निवेदन किया: “महाराज! आपने बड़े-बड़े राजाओं, जमींदारों और धनिकों को संन्यासी बना दिया, जिससे समाज में संप्रदाय के प्रति विरोध बढ़ रहा है।” श्रीहरि मुस्कुराए और बोले: “भाईस्वामी! इन्हें संन्यास दिलाने के पीछे गूढ़ कारण हैं। इनमें से कइयों पर झूठे कलंक लगने वाले थे, कइयों की आयु क्षीण हो चुकी थी और कइयों की जान पर संकट था। इन घोर विपत्तियों के निवारण हेतु हमने इन्हें परमहंस बनाया; अब इनका नया जन्म हो चुका है और संकट टल चुके हैं!” श्रीहरि ने बाद में उन्हें पगड़ी पहनाकर पुनः गृहस्थ में प्रतिष्ठापित किया।
भाईरामदास स्वामी अधिकांशतः गढड़ा में ही निवास करते थे। श्रीहरि नित्य उनका सत्कार करते थे। संवत् १८७६ के ज्येष्ठ कृष्ण षष्ठी (४ जुलाई १८२०) को भाईरामदास स्वामी ने गढड़ा में श्रीहरि के प्रत्यक्ष सान्निध्य में नश्वर देह त्याग कर अक्षरधाम को प्रयाण किया।

The Renunciation of Rambhai of Sarang as Sadguru Bhairamdas Swami and His Supreme Devotion to Shri Hari
Sadguru Ramanand Swami was passing through the outskirts of Sarang village during his spiritual travels. At that time, a farmer named Rambhai was peacefully plowing his field with oxen. Recognizing him instantly as a spiritually liberated soul from past births, Ramanand Swami approached him and spoke with penetrating gravity: “Rambhai! For how many more lifetimes will you continue to plow fields like this?” The moment those sacred words struck his ears, a blazing fire of detachment ignited within Rambhai’s heart! He abandoned the plow and oxen right there in the furrow and walked away behind Swami without a backward glance!
Gurudev Ramanand Swami initiated him into the holy monastic order, naming him ‘Ramdas Swami’ (lovingly revered in Satsang as ‘Bhairamdas Swami’). He became Ramanand Swami’s very first initiated disciple. In the advanced old age of Sadguru Atmanand Swami, Bhairamdas Swami also served him with extraordinary devotion for two years.
When Bhagwan Swaminarayan assumed the spiritual leadership of the Satsang, He always treated Bhairamdas Swami with the supreme veneration due to an elder guru-brother. Once in Ahmedabad, Bhairamdas Swami lovingly adorned Shri Hari with a cap woven from fragrant blossoms. During lunch, Shri Hari seated Muktanand Swami and Bhairamdas Swami alongside Himself. Bhairamdas Swami remarked with deep humility: “O Shri Hari! Having the divine fortune of dining with You is the supreme blessedness of my life!”
Later, in order to dissolve the pride of Sundarji Suthar, Shri Hari dispatched letters commanding eighteen wealthy chieftains and householders to renounce worldly life instantly and gather in Bhuj as ascetics. This sudden monastic transformation provoked intense uproar and social opposition from orthodox quarters. Learning of this in Jetpur, Bhairamdas Swami hurried to Bhuj and lovingly voiced the social reality in private: “Maharaj! Initiating high-ranking rulers, wealthy Patidars, and nobles has caused immense public clamor against the sadhus.” Shri Hari smiled and revealed the hidden divine purpose: “Bhaiswami! There are profound spiritual reasons behind initiating them. Several of them were destined to face severe, unjust scandals; others had exhausted their lifespans; still others were about to suffer deadly blood-feuds with kinsmen. To avert these mortal calamities, We initiated them as paramhansas. Having now attained a new spiritual birth, all those terrible impending disasters have been eradicated!” Subsequently, Shri Hari honored those eighteen devotees, tied royal turbans upon their heads, and sent them back to their homes safe and sanctified.
Bhairamdas Swami resided mostly in Gadhada, where Shri Hari always seated him upon an elevated seat in assemblies, openly stating: “Muktanand Swami and Bhaiswami are the pillars of Satsang; as long as they are present, We harbor no concerns!” On Jeth Vad 6, Samvat 1876 (July 4, 1820), Bhairamdas Swami cast off his mortal frame in Gadhada in the divine presence of Shri Hari and departed for eternal Akshardham.
