The Mango Offering of Samarkha’s Pagi, the Miracle of Inexhaustible Grains, and Shreehari’s Grace
Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj visited the village of Samarkha near Anand. In this village lived a humble Pagi devotee who cultivated a small mango orchard. That season, his trees bore their very first harvest of four to five cartloads of sweet mangoes. He had taken a sacred vow that the first fruits of his orchard would be offered exclusively to Bhagwan Swaminarayan and His holy paramhansas.
As Shreehari rode through the village on His mare Manki, the Pagi rushed forward, held the reins, prostrated at His lotus feet, and pleaded with folded hands: “O Lord! Please stay the night at my farm; I shall serve You with all my heart!”
Shreehari tested his faith: “Pagi! We travel with a large entourage of men and horses who require grain and fodder (chandi)!” The Pagi replied with undaunted devotional courage: “O Maharaj! There is grain in the earthen bin and moth beans in the clay pot; by my Father’s grace, there are heaps upon heaps!”
Delighted by his pure faith and boldness, Shreehari and His entourage rested in his farm. Maharaj instructed His attendants: “Do not tilt the small grain bin; draw bajra only from its opening, and scoop moth beans from the clay pot with care.”
Following Maharaj’s instructions, abundant feed was served to all the horses and bullocks. Miraculously, despite feeding the large contingent, by Shreehari’s divine potency the grain bin and the pot of moth beans remained completely full and inexhaustible!
Proceeding into the orchard, Shreehari distributed four luscious mangoes to each sadhu and devotee, and personally relished five mangoes to bless the Pagi. Maharaj rested the night on the farm, filling the devotee’s heart with celestial memories before departing the next morning.
