સવજી મહેતા વડતાલ સમૈયામાં હોવાથી શ્રીહરિએ રાતોરાત માણકી ઘોડી આકાશમાર્ગે દોડાવી પીપલાણામાં તેમના ખેતરનું ચોરોથી રક્ષણ કર્યું અને ૧૪ ચોફાળ જમા કરાવ્યા.
ગામ પીપલાણાના ઉનેવાળ બ્રાહ્મણ સવજી મહેતા શ્રીહરિના અનન્ય નિષ્ઠાવાન હરિભક્ત હતા. તેઓ ગામમાં નાની ખેતી અને ગોરપદું કરીને ગુજરાન ચલાવતા. એક વર્ષે ઓઝત નદીના કાંઠે આવેલા પોતાના ખેતરમાં ઊંટ ડૂબી જાય તેવો હાથ-હાથના ડૂંડાંવાળો દેશી બાજરો પાક્યો હતો. સવજી મહેતા સદાય કહેતા કે “મારા ખેતરના અન્નનો કણ કણ શ્રીહરિ અને સંતોના થાળમાં વપરાય છે, એટલે આ તો પ્રભુની જ કૃપા વરસે છે!”
તે સમયે વડતાલમાં શ્રીજીમહારાજના સાનિધ્યમાં ભવ્ય સમૈયો હોવાથી સવજી મહેતા વડતાલ પહોંચ્યા હતા. ગામમાં ચાંદ ભાંવર નામના લૂંટારાને ખબર પડી કે ખેતરમાં કોઈ રખેવાળ નથી, તેથી તે પોતાના ૧૪ સાગરીતો અને ગાડાં સાથે રાતોરાત બાજરો લણીને ચોરી જવા ખેતરમાં ઘૂસ્યો.
વડતાલમાં બિરાજમાન અંતર્યામી શ્રીહરિને આ વાતની તત્કાળ જાણ થઈ. શ્રીહરિએ રાત્રિના સમયે માણકી ઘોડી તૈયાર કરાવી. પાર્ષદ નાજા જોગીયા પણ પોતાની કેસર ઘોડી સાથે જોડાયા. મોકળો માર્ગ મળતાં જ શ્રીહરિએ માણકીની લગામ ખેંચી અને માણકી વીજળીની ગતિએ આકાશમાર્ગે ઊડવા લાગી! આંખના પલકારામાં શ્રીહરિ ઓઝત નદીના કાંઠે સવજી મહેતાના ખેતરે પહોંચી ગયા.
ચોરો બાજરો લણીને ગાંસડીઓ ગાડામાં ભરવાની તૈયારી કરતા હતા ત્યાં જ શ્રીહરિએ ધરતી પર પેંગડું છાંડ્યું અને સિંહગર્જના કરી: “ખબરદાર! જો આ ખેતરમાંથી એક પણ ડૂંડું બહાર ગયું છે તો!” આકાશમાંથી ઉતરેલા દિવ્ય તેજસ્વી યોદ્ધાને જોઈ ચોરો થરથર કાંપવા લાગ્યા અને પોતાના ૧૪ ચોફાળ (ઓઢવાના ખેસ) ત્યાં જ મૂકીને અંધારામાં નાસી છૂટ્યા! ચાંદ ભાંવર પણ ખાલી ગાડું લઈને ભાગી ગયો.
સવારે સવજી મહેતાનાં વૃદ્ધ માતુશ્રી ખેતરે પહોંચ્યાં ત્યારે ખેતરમાં એક પણ ડૂંડું ન જોઈને રડવા લાગ્યાં કે ચોરો બધું લૂંટી ગયા! તે જ ક્ષણે માણકી પર સવાર શ્રીહરિ ત્યાં પ્રગટ થયા અને સ્મિત સાથે બોલ્યા: “બાં! રડશો નહીં; અમારો સવજી ભક્ત વડતાલ સમૈયામાં છે, તો અમારે એના ખેતરની સંભાળ રાખવી જ જોઈએ ને! બાજરો લણાઈ ગયો છે અને આ ગાંસડીઓ તૈયાર પડી છે, ગાડામાં ભરી લો!” ડોશીમાની આંખોમાંથી હર્ષાશ્રુ વહેવા લાગ્યાં અને પ્રભુના ચરણોમાં નમી પડ્યાં.
દોઢેક વર્ષ પછી જ્યારે શ્રીહરિ પીપલાણા પધાર્યા ત્યારે ગામના ગોંદરે ચાંદ ભાંવરે શ્રીહરિને ઓળખી લીધા અને બોલ્યો: “સ્વામિનારાયણ! તે દિવસે બાજરો તો ન મળ્યો, પણ અમારા ચૌદ ચોફાળ પણ ત્યાં છૂટી ગયા!” શ્રીહરિએ હસીને કહ્યું: “એ તો ગરીબ બ્રાહ્મણને દક્ષિણામાં અપાઈ ગયા સમજો! તમારા હાથે પુણ્યનું કામ થઈ ગયું, હવે બ્રાહ્મણને દીધેલું પાછું મંગાય ખરું?” ચાંદ ભાંવર પ્રભુની મર્મભરી વાણી અને દિવ્ય મૂર્તિ જોઈ ચરણોમાં નમી પડ્યો.

पीपलाणा के ब्राह्मण सवजी मेहता श्रीहरि के अनन्य भक्त थे। ओझत नदी के तट पर उनके खेत में बाजरे की उत्तम फसल खड़ी थी। जब वे वड़ताल में उत्सव में गए हुए थे, तो चाँद भांवर नामक डाकू अपने १४ साथियों के साथ रात में फसल काटने लगा।
वड़ताल में अंतर्यामी श्रीहरि ने यह जानकर रात में ही माणकी घोड़ी पर सवार होकर आकाशीय वेग से उड़ान भरी और क्षण भर में खेत में पहुँचकर सिंहगर्जना की: “खबरदार! यदि एक भी दाना यहाँ से हिला!” डाकू भयभीत होकर अपने १४ दुपट्टे वहीं छोड़कर भाग गए।
सुबह जब सवजी मेहता की वृद्ध माता खेत पहुँचीं और खाली पौधे देखे तो विलाप करने लगीं। तभी श्रीहरि प्रकट हुए और बोले: “माँ! सवजी वड़ताल में है तो उनके खेत की रक्षा हमें ही करनी थी। बाजरा कट चुका है और गठरियाँ तैयार हैं!” माताजी प्रभु के चरणों में गिर पड़ीं।
कालांतर में जब चाँद भांवर ने अपने १४ दुपट्टों की बात कही, तो श्रीहरि ने हँसकर कहा: “वह तो गरीब ब्राह्मण को दक्षिणा में मिल गए, आपके जीवन में एक पुण्य हो गया!” डाकू प्रभु के चरणों में नतमस्तक हो गया।

Protection of Savji Mehta’s Pearl-Millet at Piplana, Manki’s Celestial Flight, and Charity for the Thieves
In the village of Piplana, a pious Brahmin devotee named Savji Mehta earned his livelihood through farming along the banks of the Ozat River. One year, his farm yielded an extraordinary harvest of indigenous pearl-millet (bajro). Savji always maintained: “Every single grain of this field is sanctified for the offerings of Shreehari and His holy paramhansas!”
While Savji Mehta was in Vadtal attending a magnificent festival in the presence of Shreeji Maharaj, an outlaw named Chand Bhanvar learned that the field was unguarded. He entered the farm at night with 14 henchmen and carts to plunder the standing crop.
Sitting in Vadtal, omniscient Shreehari perceived the theft. In the dead of night, Maharaj mounted His divine mare Manki. Together with Parshad Naja Jogiya, Manki took flight through the heavens at lightning speed! In the blink of an eye, Shreehari landed majestically at Savji’s farm.
Just as the thieves were loading the harvested bundles into their carts, Shreehari dismounted with a resounding thud and roared like a lion: “Beware! If a single ear of grain leaves this field, none shall survive!” Terrified by the sight of the celestial, armed divine warrior, the bandits fled in panic, abandoning their carts and fourteen shawls (chofals) behind!
At dawn, Savji Mehta’s elderly mother arrived with laborers. Seeing no grain left on the stalks, she wept aloud, assuming robbers had looted everything. At that instant, Shreehari appeared on Manki, smiling gently: “Mother! Do not weep; Our beloved Savji is serving in Vadtal, so We came to guard his harvest! The grain is harvested and the bundles are stacked safely; load them into your carts!” Tears of sublime gratitude poured from her eyes as she bowed at the Lord’s feet.
A year and a half later, when Shreehari visited Piplana, Chand Bhanvar recognized Him and remarked: “Swaminarayan! That night we lost the bajra, and our fourteen shawls were also left behind!” Shreehari laughed heartily: “Consider them a charitable donation given to a poor Brahmin! A noble deed was accomplished by your hands, and one never takes back charity given to a Brahmin!” Overcome by the Lord’s witty wisdom and divine grace, the outlaw bowed in reverence.
