Uttamchand Sheth of Kanbha: Escorted to Akshardham, the Vairagi’s Vision of Celestial Chariots, and Supreme Faith

In the village of Kanbha near Ahmedabad lived Sheth Uttamchand, a respected merchant of the Vaniyo community who embraced the Swaminarayan fellowship through the guidance of touring sadhus. Imbued with absolute conviction in Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj’s supreme divinity, he strictly observed every precept of the Shikshapatri and maintained the five moral vows with heroic vigilance. Whenever holy sadhus visited Kanbha, Uttamchand served them with his wealth, mind, and body, constantly attending the grand festivals in Vadtal and Jetalpur.

In his old age, Uttamchand Sheth fell ill as his final earthly hour drew near. Moved by His devotee’s lifelong fidelity, Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj descended in person from Akshardham, accompanied by an array of resplendent celestial chariots (vimans), countless liberated souls, and luminous attendants!

On the outskirts of Kanbha stood an ascetic hermitage belonging to an orthodox Vairagi sadhu. Before entering the village streets, Shreeji Maharaj paused His divine entourage beside this hermitage. Suddenly, a brilliant flood of divine illumination resembling millions of suns pierced the midnight gloom! Astonished and fearful, the Vairagi stumbled out of his thatched hut. Looking up, he rubbed his eyes in utter disbelief: hovering between heaven and earth were countless resplendent, gem-studded celestial chariots filled with radiant divine beings!

Trembling in awe, the Vairagi called out to the attendants: “O luminous beings! Who are you celestial masters? And who is that Supreme Sovereign seated in majesty amidst this sea of heavenly chariots?” The attendants replied with solemn majesty: “O holy man! He is none other than the manifest Supreme Purushottam Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan, and we are attendants of His eternal abode of Akshardham! Tonight, our devoted householder Uttamchand Sheth of your village is departing this mortal world; the Supreme Lord has arrived in person to escort his soul to Akshardham!” The Vairagi stood utterly dumbfounded that the Supreme Lord of the cosmos would arrive with an entire celestial fleet merely to escort a humble village merchant!

Shreeji Maharaj then glided into Kanbha, entering Uttamchand Sheth’s humble dwelling. Bestowing a divine four-armed vision upon the dying devotee, Shreehari seated Uttamchand within the celestial chariot and ascended triumphantly to Akshardham amidst celestial melodies!

Simultaneously, numerous other awake villagers in Kanbha witnessed the miraculous radiance and divine sounds coursing across the night sky. In the morning, when the Vairagi arrived in the village square and recounted his midnight encounter, matching it to the exact moment of Uttamchand Sheth’s peaceful demise, the entire township was gripped with awe! The undeniable testimony established absolute conviction across Kanbha that Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan personally escorts His devotees to the highest spiritual abode at life’s end.
