Darbar Dadabhai of Jamnavad: Noble Donation of His Junagadh Orchard and Diwankhana for the Mandir
In the village of Jamnavad near Dhoraji in Saurashtra lived Darbar Dadabhai, a noble Kshatriya Rajput chieftain who was a sublime, self-realized disciple of Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj. His ancestral name was Sursang Sujansang Solanki. He was the first cousin of Muktaraj Jhinabhai Darbar of Panchala and a direct initiated disciple of Sadguru Ramanand Swami.
In the royal city of Junagadh, Darbar Dadabhai possessed an expansive ancestral estate comprising a grand reception hall (diwankhana), a two-story mansion (medi), a lush flower orchard (fulvadi), and a freshwater well. Whenever Sadguru Ramanand Swami visited Junagadh, he invariably took up residence in Dadabhai’s tranquil orchard. In Samvat 1858, when young ascetic Shreeji Maharaj arrived in Junagadh with His sadhus seeking an isolated sanctuary free from the traffic of worldly crowds and women, Dadabhai reverently offered this very garden estate for the Lord’s retreat. Dadabhai and his devout sister, Motiba, were steeped in ekantik devotion, frequently inviting Shreehari to their ancestral estate in Jamnavad for grand devotional feasts. In the sacred epic ‘Shri Hari Charitramrut Sagar’, Sadguru Adharanand Swami extols Dadabhai as an exemplary devotee who attuned his every action to the divine pleasure of Shreehari.
Years later, Darbar Jhinabhai concluded his earthly pastimes and ascended to Akshardham. During the memorial assembly in Junagadh, Shreeji Maharaj addressed the grieving gathering with deep emotion: “In Gadhpur, Jhinabhai had fervently prayed to Me that for the sustenance of satsang in Sorath, his ancestral mansion in Junagadh should be dismantled to erect a magnificent pinnacled mandir! Now that Jhinabhai has departed to Akshardham, the responsibility of both his estate and the fellowship falls upon noble and patient Dadabhai. Being a beloved disciple of Ramanand Swami, he will surely not let anyone feel Jhinabhai’s absence!” Shreehari then expressed His divine wish: “To erect a grand pinnacled mandir here in Junagadh, an expansive plot of land is required.”
The moment these words fell from Shreehari’s lips, Darbar Dadabhai rose in the assembly, folded his hands, and submitted with deep humility: “O Supreme Lord! What greater fortune could befall us than to see Jhinabhai’s sacred vision realized through the construction of a glorious temple? For the temple’s sacred foundation, I humbly offer my entire flower orchard, diwankhana, and well as an unconditional offering (krishnarpan) at Your divine lotus feet! Command whatever further wealth or services are required; consider us Your eternal servants and remain ever pleased with us!”
Going further, on Tuesday, the eleventh day of the bright half of Magshar in Samvat 1882, Darbar Dadabhai executed a formal, legally registered deed of land conveyance before the Junagadh state authorities, signing and presenting the title deed to Shreehari. The historical document explicitly records the transfer of 650 square yards of prime land, situated 28 yards south and 20 yards east of the sanctified well, for the eternal use of the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir.
Beholding Darbar Dadabhai’s magnanimous generosity, profound detachment, and unblemished guru-bhakti, Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj, Sadguru Muktanand Swami, and Sadguru Brahmanand Swami were overjoyed, bestowing their highest divine blessings upon him.
