શ્રીહરિને રામ-કૃષ્ણના પણ અવતારી કહેતાં વસ્તા રાવળને હરિભક્તોએ મંદિરે આવવાની મનાઈ કરી; પ્રભુએ ગાંફના પાદરે સૌ વચ્ચે વસ્તાજીને ભેટી સર્વોપરી કહેવાની છૂટ આપી.
પૂર્ણ પુરુષોત્તમ શ્રીજીમહારાજ અનેક વખત ગઢપુરથી વડતાલ આવતાં-જતાં ભાલ પ્રદેશના ગાંફ ગામે પોતાના પરમ પ્રેમી અને નિષ્ઠાવાન ભક્ત વસ્તા રાવળને દર્શન દેવા અચૂક પધારતા. વસ્તા રાવળ પણ શ્રીહરિના સર્વોપરી અવતારીપણાની અણડગ ખુમારી અને દ્રઢ કેફ સાથે સત્સંગમાં વર્તતા હતા. સદ્ગુરુ પ્રેમાનંદ સ્વામીએ પણ પોતાના કીર્તનમાં ગાયું છે: “મનવેગે ગાંફ જઈ રહ્યા રાત, સીંજીવાડે સ્વામી ગયા પરભાત…”
એક સમયે શ્રીજીમહારાજે સંતો-હરિભક્તોની પરીક્ષા કરવા માટે એવી આજ્ઞા કરેલી કે: “સૌએ મને નારદજી કે શુકજી જેવા સંત કહેવો, પણ એથી વિશેષ કોઈએ મને ભગવાન કે સર્વોપરી કહેવો નહીં!”
તેવામાં ગાંફ ગામના રાજાએ ગામમાં શ્રીમદ્ ભાગવત સપ્તાહનું આયોજન કર્યું. સમગ્ર ગામ કથા શ્રવણ કરવા જતું હતું. ભક્તરાજ વસ્તા રાવળ પણ દરરોજ સૌની આગળ બેસીને કથા સાંભળતા. કથા દરમિયાન તેમને છીંક કે બગાસું આવે ત્યારે તેઓ મોટેથી “સ્વામિનારાયણ… સ્વામિનારાયણ…” મહામંત્રનો ગગનભેદી ઉચ્ચાર કરતા.
આ સાંભળી ગામના દરબારે વસ્તા રાવળ સામે જોઈ આક્ષેપ કર્યો: “રાવળજી! શ્રી રામચંદ્ર ભગવાને સમુદ્ર પર સેતુ બાંધ્યો અને રાવણાદિક રાક્ષસોનો સંહાર કર્યો; ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણચંદ્રએ કંસાદિક અસુરોને હણ્યા અને ટચલી આંગળીએ ગોવર્ધન પર્વત તોળ્યો—તેથી તેઓ ભગવાન કહેવાય છે! તમારા સ્વામિનારાયણે એવાં કયાં પરાક્રમો કર્યાં છે કે તમે એમને સાક્ષાત્ ભગવાન કહો છો?”
વસ્તા રાવળે સિંહ જેવી ગર્જના સાથે નિર્ભયતાથી કહ્યું: “દરબાર! આપને ખબર નથી? શ્રી રામચંદ્રજી અને શ્રી કૃષ્ણચંદ્ર ભગવાને જે જે દિવ્ય ચરિત્રો અને પરાક્રમો કર્યાં હતાં, એ પરાક્રમો પણ આ પ્રગટ પ્રભુ શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણની શક્તિ અને પ્રતાપથી જ થયાં હતાં! આ સ્વામિનારાયણ જ સર્વે અવતારોના મૂળ અવતારી અને સર્વોપરી પૂર્ણ પુરુષોત્તમ નારાયણ છે!”
દરબારે સભામાં બેઠેલા અન્ય સત્સંગીઓને કહ્યું: “જુઓ, તમારા આ રાવળજી સ્વામિનારાયણને સર્વના કારણ અને સર્વોપરી કહે છે!” તે સમયે સભામાં બેઠેલા કેટલાક નિયમપાલક હરિભક્તોએ વસ્તા રાવળને ઠપકો આપ્યો: “રાવળજી! શ્રીજીમહારાજે આપણને કોઈને એમને સર્વોપરી કહેવાની સ્પષ્ટ ના પાડી છે! આપે મહારાજની આજ્ઞા કેમ લોપી?” વસ્તા રાવળે અતિશય દ્રઢતા અને કેફ સાથે કહ્યું: “હું તો શ્રીહરિને જેવા પ્રત્યક્ષ જાણું છું એવા જ કહું છું, અને આજીવન એવા જ કહીશ!”
ત્યારે તે હરિભક્તોએ કઠોર નિર્ણય લેતાં કહ્યું: “આપે શ્રીજીમહારાજની આજ્ઞાનો ભંગ કર્યો છે, તેથી આપ સત્સંગમાંથી વિમુખ છો! આજથી આપે મંદિરે આવવું નહીં!” વસ્તા રાવળે કાલાવાલા કરતાં કહ્યું: “ભાઈઓ! આપ સૌ રાજી રહેજો; મારાથી પ્રભુના દર્શન વગર કે મંદિર આવ્યા વગર નહીં રહેવાય, કૃપા કરી મને સત્સંગથી અળગો ન કરો!” પરંતુ કોઈએ એમની વાત માની નહીં.
થોડા દિવસો વીત્યા બાદ શ્રીજીમહારાજ સંતો-હરિભક્તોના વિશાળ સંઘ સાથે ગઢપુરથી વડતાલ જતાં ગાંફ ગામના પાદરે પધાર્યા. સમસ્ત ગામના હરિભક્તો પ્રભુના સ્વાગત અર્થે ઊમટી પડ્યા. વસ્તા રાવળ પણ દોડીને આવ્યા, પરંતુ પોતાને વિમુખ કરેલા હોવાથી તેઓ છેટે ઊભા રહીને આંખોમાં અશ્રુ સાથે શ્રીહરિનાં દર્શન કરતા હતા.
અંતર્યામી શ્રીહરિએ દૂર ઊભેલા વસ્તા રાવળને દીઠા અને હાથના ઈશારે પોતાની સમીપે બોલાવ્યા. ત્યારે આગળ ઊભેલા હરિભક્તોએ કહ્યું: “મહારાજ! રાવળજીને અમે સૌએ સત્સંગમાંથી વિમુખ કર્યા છે!” શ્રીહરિએ આશ્ચર્ય દર્શાવી પૂછ્યું: “કેમ? રાવળજી કાંઈ વર્તમાન ચૂક્યા છે?” હરિભક્તોએ સઘળી હકીકત કહી સંભળાવી કે ભાગવતની સભામાં તેમણે આપની આજ્ઞા લોપીને આપને સર્વોપરી અવતારી કહ્યા હતા!
આ સાંભળતાં જ સાક્ષાત્ શ્રીજીમહારાજે માણકી ઘોડી પરથી જોરથી નીચે કૂદકો માર્યો! પ્રભુ દોડીને વસ્તા રાવળ પાસે ગયા અને તેમને બાહુપાશમાં જકડીને છાતી સરસા ચાંપી દીધા! શ્રીહરિએ વસ્તા રાવળનો વાંસો થાબડ્યો, મસ્તક પર બંને વરદ હસ્ત મૂક્યા અને ગદગદ કંઠે ઉદ્ઘોષ કર્યો: “વસ્તા ભગત! જાઓ, સમગ્ર જગતને કહેજો… ડંકાની ચોટે કહેજો કે તમે મને જેવા સર્વોપરી જાણો છો, તેવા જ સર્વોપરી સૌને કહેજો!”
શ્રીહરિના આવા દિવ્ય પ્રેમ અને સમર્થનથી વસ્તા રાવળની આંખોમાંથી પ્રેમાશ્રુ છલકાઈ ઊઠ્યાં, જ્યારે અન્ય હરિભક્તો પોતાના અવિવેક બદલ લજ્જિત થઈ ગયા. પ્રભુએ પોતાના ભક્તની અણડગ સર્વોપરી નિષ્ઠા જોઈ સમગ્ર સત્સંગ વચ્ચે તેની અદ્ભુત કદર કરી.

गाँफ में भागवत कथा में जब राजा ने पूछा कि क्या स्वामीनारायण ने राम-कृष्ण जैसे पराक्रम किए हैं? तो भक्त वस्ता रावल ने निर्भय होकर कहा: “राम-कृष्ण ने जो पराक्रम किए, वे भी स्वामीनारायण की शक्ति से ही हुए थे; वे ही सर्वावतारी पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम हैं!”
प्रभु द्वारा स्वयं को सामान्य कहने की पूर्व आज्ञा का हवाला देकर कुछ भक्तों ने वस्ता रावल को सत्संग से विमुख कर मंदिर आने से रोक दिया। वस्ता रावल ने कहा: “मैं प्रभु को जैसा जानता हूँ, वैसा ही कहूँगा!”
कुछ दिन बाद जब श्रीजीमहाराज गाँफ पधारे, तो वस्ता रावल दूर खड़े होकर दर्शन कर रहे थे। भक्तों ने प्रभु से कहा कि इन्हें विमुख किया है। कारण जानकर श्रीहरि तुरंत घोड़ी से कूद पड़े और दौड़कर वस्ता रावल को छाती से लगा लिया! प्रभु ने उनकी पीठ थपथपाकर कहा: “वस्ता भगत! जाओ, पूरे संसार में ढोल पीटकर कहो कि मैं सर्वोपरि हूँ!”

Vasta Raval of Ganf: Unshakeable Conviction in Supreme Godhead, Ostracization, and Shreehari’s Loving Embrace
Traveling back and forth between Gadhpur and Vadtal, Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj frequently halted at the village of Ganf in the Bhal region to grant divine audience to His ardent devotee, Vasta Raval. Vasta Raval conducted himself in the fellowship with magnificent spiritual pride and an unshakeable conviction in Shreehari’s supreme, transcendent divinity. Sadguru Premanand Swami commemorated this in his devotional hymns: “Speeding like the wind to Ganf, the Lord stayed the night; at dawn He proceeded to Sinjiwada…”
On one occasion, to test the discernment of His followers, Shreeji Maharaj issued a general decree: “Everyone should describe Me merely as an ascetic sadhu like Naradji or Shukji; none should proclaim Me as the Supreme Godhead!”
During that period, the local king of Ganf sponsored a week-long recitation of the Srimad Bhagavatam for the entire township. Deeply devoted, Vasta Raval attended daily, sitting in the front row. Whenever he sneezed or yawned, he instinctively chanted the Swaminarayan Mahamantra in a clear, resonant voice: “Swaminarayan… Swaminarayan!”
Noticing this, the royal ruler taunted Vasta Raval: “Ravalji! Lord Ramachandra bridged the vast ocean and vanquished ten-headed Ravana; Lord Krishna lifted Mount Govardhan on His little finger and destroyed wicked Kansa—hence they are worshipped as God! What mighty valor has your Swaminarayan displayed that you elevate Him to Supreme Divinity?”
Vasta Raval roared like a lion with absolute fearlessness: “O Darbar! Are you unaware? Whatever wondrous pastimes and cosmic valor Lord Ramachandra and Lord Krishna displayed were accomplished solely through the sovereign power and authority of this manifest Lord Swaminarayan! He alone is the Supreme Purushottam Narayan, the primordial fountainhead of all divine avatars!”
The ruler turned to other satsangis in the gathering: “Behold, your Ravalji publicly declares Swaminarayan to be the ultimate source of all incarnations!” Confronted by this, certain legalistic devotees sternly rebuked Vasta Raval: “Ravalji! Shreeji Maharaj explicitly forbade us from openly proclaiming Him as the Supreme Lord! How dare you transgress Maharaj’s command?” Vasta Raval replied with fiery conviction: “I proclaim Shreehari exactly as I directly know Him in my soul, and I shall proclaim Him as such to my dying breath!”
The rigid devotees announced a harsh verdict: “Because you have violated Shreeji Maharaj’s command, you are excommunicated from the satsang! Henceforth, you are forbidden from stepping foot into the temple!” Vasta Raval pleaded humbly: “O brothers! Hold no malice; I cannot survive without visiting the mandir and beholding the Lord’s darshan. Please do not sever me from the satsang!” Yet none would relent.
A few days later, Shreeji Maharaj arrived at the outskirts of Ganf accompanied by a large pilgrimage party of sadhus and devotees en route to Vadtal. The entire village rushed out to welcome the Master. Vasta Raval ran out as well, but standing far back by the roadside due to his excommunication, he gazed upon Shreehari with eyes brimming with tears.
The all-seeing Lord spotted Vasta Raval standing alone in the distance and beckoned him forward. The devotees stepped in, saying: “Maharaj! We have excommunicated Ravalji from the satsang!” Shreehari asked in surprise: “Why? Has Ravalji violated any moral vows?” They recounted how in the public Bhagavatam assembly, he had violated Maharaj’s instruction by stubbornly proclaiming Him as the Supreme Avatari.
Upon hearing this, Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj instantly leaped down from His mare Manki! Running across the dust, the Lord clasped Vasta Raval in a tight, passionate embrace against His chest! Patted his back affectionately and placing both holy hands upon his head, Shreehari proclaimed in a ringing voice for all to hear: “Vasta Bhagat! Go forth and proclaim it to the entire universe… proclaim it with beating drums! As you know Me to be Supreme in your heart, boldly proclaim Me as the Supreme Lord to all mankind!”
Streams of joyous tears poured from Vasta Raval’s eyes, while the legalistic devotees bowed their heads in profound shame. Seeing His devotee’s unfaltering, heroic conviction in His supreme Godhead, the Lord celebrated his faith before the entire congregation.
