Divine Radiance Revealed to Devisang Garasiya at Devliya and Resolving 100 Questions for Unshakeable Conviction
When Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj set out for Devliya from Sandhvaya, local villagers cautioned Him against entering the village, warning that the proud local chieftain, Devisang Garasiya, repeatedly boasted that he would throw Swaminarayan into prison. Apprehensive by nature, attendant Mulji Brahmachari pleaded to turn back. Fearless Shreehari smiled: “If you are afraid, Brahmachari, you may return; We shall certainly proceed alone!”
Walking swiftly into Devliya, Shreehari entered the royal administrative chamber where Devisang was seated. Looking at the majestic figure, Devisang demanded, “Who are you?” Shreehari announced in a ringing voice: “We are the very Swaminarayan whom you boast of throwing into prison! What is your name?” Devisang arrogantly replied, “I am Sachchidanand Brahma!” Maharaj countered: “The word ‘Chit’ denotes effulgence; if you are Brahma, manifest radiance from your body, or else We shall reveal divine radiance to you!”
Instantly, Shreehari unleashed an overwhelming burst of transcendental light resembling millions of suns! The entire hall blazed with celestial radiance. Devisang, whose eyesight had been severely failing, miraculously had his vision fully restored upon contact with this divine light! Terrified by the unbearable intensity of the effulgence, Devisang folded his hands and pleaded: “O Lord! I have no power to withdraw this light; please withdraw it by Your own grace!” Shreehari gently withdrew the effulgence.
Humbled, Devisang arranged for Maharaj to reside in his private guest mansion, sending abundant provisions of milk, ghee, and sugar. Mulji Brahmachari arrived and prepared a sanctified feast for the Lord.
The following morning, seeking to test Maharaj’s omniscience, Devisang gathered one hundred men, tutoring each to ask an intricate theological question simultaneously. Seated serenely upon the dais, Shreehari said, “Ask whatever questions you have all at once!” All one hundred individuals shouted their diverse questions simultaneously. Omniscient Shreehari then addressed each person individually by name, answering every single question sequentially with flawless scriptural authority!
Awestruck by this display of divine omniscience, Devisang and the entire assembly bowed in total surrender, recognizing Bhagwan Swaminarayan as the Supreme Purushottam Narayan. Devisang hosted Maharaj with deep reverence for three days.
