Hathiya Manjariya of Zhinzhuda: Unshakable Faith in the Sanctity of Gadhada and River Ghela
In the village of Zhinzhuda lived Hathiya Manjariya, a valorous Kathi chieftain and an unyielding devotee of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He held boundless reverence for the holy sanctified soil of Gadhada and the sacred River Ghela.
Once, several villagers were preparing provisions for a pilgrimage to bathe in the holy waters of the Ganges. They urged Hathiya Manjariya, “Hathiya! Pack your provisions as well; let us all journey together to bathe in Mother Ganga.”
Hathiya Bhagat replied with sublime spiritual conviction: “I have just returned from bathing in the ultimate Ganga!” Surprised, they asked, “When did you go?”
Hathiya Bhagat explained, “I just returned from Gadhada, having bathed both my oxen—Dolio and Kabario—in the holy waters of River Ghela! By that divine contact alone, Dolio departed to Akshardham, and Kabario is prepared to ascend as well!”
A skeptic objected, “Hathiya Bhagat! During the summer heat, the waters of River Ghela dry up completely; what merit could there be in bathing in a dry riverbed?”
Hathiya Manjariya thundered in righteous indignation: “O ignorant souls! The surface water of Ghela may recede, but does the sanctified sand of that riverbed ever dry up?! Where the sacred lotus feet of the Supreme Lord of the cosmos have walked, even if a soul places a single pebble or grain of sand upon their head, they attain ultimate salvation! Such is the matchless glory of Gadhada and River Ghela!” Hearing his unshakeable faith, the pilgrims stood awestruck in silence.
