Vachanamrut Gadhada I-44: The Litmus Test of True Divine Love, Sand in Panchamrit, and Red-Hot Branding

In the 44th discourse of the First Section of Gadhada in the Vachanamrut, Shreeji Maharaj defined the unmistakable litmus test of genuine divine love for God:

“One who possesses complete, unadulterated love for God—if knowingly or unknowingly any thought other than the divine form of God arises within their heart, it torments them as agonizingly as if a handful of dirt and gravel were thrown into a luscious bowl of sweet panchamrit while they were eating it; or as excruciatingly painful as if a branding iron glowing red-hot were seared onto their forehead! Only a person who experiences such intense anguish at the arising of any worldly thought devoid of God can truly be recognized as having genuine love for God.”

Shreehari teaches that a true lover of God cannot tolerate even the briefest intrusion of worldly desires or mundane trifles into their consciousness. Absorbed exclusively in divine contemplation, such an elevated devotee experiences unbroken spiritual ecstasy.
