પીપલાણાના કુરજીભાઈ દવેના પૌત્ર શાંતાનંદજી બ્રહ્મચારીની ગુરુ અચિંત્યાનંદજી પ્રત્યે અજોડ સેવા, નદી પાર કરાવવાનો પ્રસંગ, રાજકોટ મંદિરમાં પ્રહ્લાદ આખ્યાનની ચોંટદાર કથા અને આચાર્ય વિહારીલાલજી મહારાજ દ્વારા સદગુરુ પદવી.
સોરઠના પવિત્ર પીપલાણા ગામમાં સદગુરુ રામાનંદ સ્વામીના કૃપાપાત્ર પરમ ભક્ત કુરજીભાઈ દવે રહેતા હતા. આ એ જ કુરજીભાઈ હતા જેમણે રામાનંદ સ્વામી ભૂજથી પીપલાણા પધાર્યા ત્યારે લોજ જઈ મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીને નીલકંઠ વર્ણીના મિલનના સમાચાર પહોંચાડ્યા હતા. તેમના પુત્ર વાઘજીભાઈ અને પુત્રવધૂ પૂતળીબાઈ પણ અત્યંત સાત્ત્વિક હતા. આ પવિત્ર કુટુંબમાં હીરજી નામે પુત્રનો જન્મ થયો.
હીરજીભાઈ નાની વયથી જ સંસારત્યાગી થઈ સદગુરુ અચિંત્યાનંદજી બ્રહ્મચારી પાસે દીક્ષા લઈ ‘શાંતાનંદજી બ્રહ્મચારી’ બન્યા. તેઓ ગુરુસેવામાં સદા તત્પર રહેતા. એક સમયે આચાર્ય શ્રી ભગવતપ્રસાદજી મહારાજ અને સંતો વિચરણમાં જઈ રહ્યા હતા. માર્ગમાં એક નદી આવી, જેનો પ્રવાહ પાર કરવાનો હતો. વસ્ત્રો-પાઘડી પલળે નહીં તેમ સૌ સાવચેતીથી નીકળતા હતા. યુવાન શાંતાનંદજીએ તુરંત ગુરુદેવ અચિંત્યાનંદજીને વિનંતી કરી: “ગુરુદેવ ! આપ પાઘડી કે વસ્ત્રો ન ઉતારશો, આપ મારા ખભે બેસી જાઓ!” આમ કહી ગુરુદેવને ખભે બેસાડી નદી પાર કરાવી. આ અપાર ગુરુભક્તિ જોઈ આચાર્યશ્રીએ તેમની પીઠ થાબડતાં કહ્યું, “અચિંત્યાનંદજી ! અમારી પાસે અનેક સેવકો છે, પણ તમારા આ શિષ્ય જેવો ગુરુભાવ અને સેવાનો મહિમાવાન સેવક ક્યાંય નથી!” ગુરુ અચિંત્યાનંદજીએ કહ્યું કે શિષ્ય ભણવામાં બહુ તેજસ્વી નથી, ત્યારે આચાર્યશ્રીએ આશીર્વાદ આપ્યા કે આપ જેવા સમર્થ ગુરુની સેવાથી તેઓ પરમ વિદ્વાન અને પ્રખર વક્તા થશે.
આ આશીર્વાદ અક્ષરશઃ ફળ્યા. સદગુરુ બાલમુકુંદદાસ સ્વામીએ રાજકોટ મંદિરમાં જ્યારે મોટો ઉત્સવ કર્યો અને આચાર્ય શ્રી વિહારીલાલજી મહારાજ પધાર્યા, ત્યારે સર્વે સંતો-ભક્તો મહારાજશ્રીનું સામૈયું કરવા બજારમાં ગયા. સભામાં હરિભક્તો બેઠા હોવાથી કોઠારી કરશનજીભાઈ પારેખની વિનંતીથી સમયસૂચકતા વાપરી શાંતાનંદજી બ્રહ્મચારી વ્યાસપીઠ પર બિરાજ્યા. તેમણે નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામીના ‘ધીરજાખ્યાન’ આધારિત ભક્તરાજ પ્રહ્લાદજીનું એવું અદ્ભુત અને રસભર્યું આખ્યાન સંભળાવ્યું કે સભા મંત્રમુગ્ધ થઈ ગઈ! સામૈયું પતાવીને આવેલા રાજકોટના દીવાન કોટક સાહેબ પણ કથા સાંભળી અત્યંત પ્રભાવિત થયા. તેમણે આચાર્યશ્રીને અરજ કરી કે આ અદ્ભુત કથા અધૂરી ન રહેવી જોઈએ. સૌના આગ્રહથી શાંતાનંદજીએ પુનઃ દોઢ કલાક સુધી અમૃતવાણી વરસાવી.
કથા પૂર્ણ થતાં આચાર્ય શ્રી વિહારીલાલજી મહારાજે શાંતાનંદજીને પોતાની પાસે બોલાવી અતિ પ્રસન્ન થઈને ‘સદગુરુ’ની પદવી એનાયત કરી! આચાર્યશ્રીએ સમગ્ર સભામાં ગૌરવભેર જાહેર કર્યું: “હું અને શાંતાનંદજી ગુરુદેવ અચિંત્યાનંદજી પાસે સાથે અભ્યાસ કરતા હતા, તેઓ મારા સહપાઠી છે, પરંતુ તેઓ સંસ્કાર અને જ્ઞાનના અખંડ ભંડાર તથા ગુરુદેવના સાચા શિષ્ય છે!” સંવત ૧૯૫૧માં જૂનાગઢમાં પુરાણી ગોપીનાથદાસજી સ્વામી સાથે તેમણે સત્સંગીજીવનની અદ્ભુત કથા કરી અને સંવત ૧૯૫૮ના ચૈત્ર વદ ચોથના રોજ ગોંડલ મંદિરમાં સૌને અગાઉથી જણાવી દિવ્ય સ્વરૂપે અક્ષરધામ સિધાવ્યા.

सद्गुरु शांतानंदजी ब्रह्मचारी की अनन्य गुरुभक्ति, प्रखर वक्तृत्व और आचार्यश्री द्वारा सद्गुरु पदवी
सोरठ के पीपलाना गांव में रामानंद स्वामी के कृपापात्र कुर्गीभाई दवे रहते थे, जिन्होंने लोज जाकर मुक्तानंद स्वामी को नीलकंठ वर्णी के आगमन का समाचार दिया था। उनके पौत्र हीरजी ने अल्पायु में ही सद्गुरु अचिंत्यानंदजी ब्रह्मचारी से दीक्षा ग्रहण कर ‘शांतानंदजी ब्रह्मचारी’ नाम धारण किया।
एक बार आचार्य श्री भगवतप्रसादजी महाराज और संतों के साथ विचरण करते समय मार्ग में नदी पार करनी थी। युवक शांतानंदजी ने अपने गुरुदेव अचिंत्यानंदजी को कंधे पर बैठाकर सकुशल नदी पार कराई। यह अनन्य निष्ठा देखकर आचार्यश्री ने आशीर्वाद दिया कि गुरुसेवा के प्रभाव से वे प्रखर वक्ता और परम ज्ञानी बनेंगे।
यह आशीर्वाद पूर्णतः सिद्ध हुआ। राजकोट मंदिर के उत्सव में जब आचार्य श्री विहारीलालजी महाराज का सामैया करने सभी संत-भक्त गए, तब शांतानंदजी ब्रह्मचारी ने व्यासपीठ पर आसीन होकर निष्कुलानंद स्वामी रचित ‘धीरजाख्यान’ के आधार पर भक्त प्रह्लाद की ऐसी ओजस्वी एवं रसपूर्ण कथा कही कि पूरी सभा मंत्रमुग्ध हो गई। राजकोट के दीवान कोटक साहेब कथा सुनकर इतने भावविभोर हुए कि उन्होंने आचार्यश्री से कथा पुनः आगे बढ़ाने का अनुरोध किया।
कथा के उपरांत आचार्य श्री विहारीलालजी महाराज ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर शांतानंदजी को ‘सद्गुरु’ की पदवी प्रदान की और कहा, “ये मेरे सहपाठी हैं और ज्ञान व गुरुनिष्ठा के साक्षात भंडार हैं।” संवत 1958 में गोंडल मंदिर में उन्होंने सबको पूर्व-सूचना देकर दिव्य देह से अक्षरधाम प्रस्थान किया।

Sadguru Shantanandji Brahmachari: Incomparable Guru-Bhakti, Eloquent Discourse and Bestowal of Sadguru Status
In the sanctified village of Piplana in Sorath lived Kurjibhai Dave, an exceptionally devout Brahmin and cherished disciple of Sadguru Ramanand Swami. It was Kurjibhai who had carried the historic message to Muktanand Swami in Loj announcing the arrival of Nilkanth Varni. In this pious lineage, his grandson Hirji was born, who embraced renunciation in his youth and received initiation from Sadguru Achintyanandji Brahmachari, receiving the ascetic name ‘Shantanandji Brahmachari’.
Once, while traveling on Satsang tour with Acharya Shree Bhagvatprasadji Maharaj and senior saints, they encountered a flowing river that needed to be crossed. To protect his preceptor’s clothes and turban from getting wet, young Shantanandji placed Achintyanandji on his shoulders and carried him across the waters. Witnessing this peerless devotion, Acharya Bhagvatprasadji patted his back and exclaimed: “Achintyanandji! We have countless attendants, but none possesses such sublime reverence and spirit of service as your disciple.” When Achintyanandji remarked that his pupil was not scholarly brilliant, Acharyashri prophesied: “By serving such an enlightened guru, he will become an extraordinarily brilliant scholar and eloquent speaker.”
This blessing materialized magnificently. During a grand festival at Rajkot mandir celebrated by Sadguru Balmukunddas Swami and graced by Acharya Shree Viharilalji Maharaj, the congregation awaited while senior saints joined the welcome procession. Demonstrating extraordinary presence of mind, Shantanandji ascended the Vyaspith and commenced a spellbinding narration of Bhakta Prahlad’s story based on Nishkulanand Swami’s ‘Dhirjakhyan’. The Diwan of Rajkot, Kotak Saheb, was so captivated that he personally pleaded with Acharyashri to have the discourse continued. At everyone’s fervent request, Shantanandji delivered an inspired discourse for another ninety minutes.
At the conclusion, Acharya Viharilalji Maharaj summoned Shantanandji with immense pleasure and conferred upon him the revered title of ‘Sadguru’. Acharyashri proclaimed before the entire assembly: “Shantanandji and I studied together under Guru Achintyanandji. Though my classmate, he is a treasure of spiritual virtues and the true inheritor of our guru’s grace!” Later in Samvat 1951, he co-narrated Satsangi Jivan in Junagadh, and in Samvat 1958 at Gondal mandir, he peacefully ascended to Akshardham after notifying the devotees in advance.
