The Liberation of Premji Thakkar’s Cow in Medarda: Service to Sadhus and the Sacred Thal
Once, in the town of Medarda, devotee Premjibhai Thakkar was resting in his shop at night. Awakening in the middle of the night, he was blessed with the resplendent vision of Shreeji Maharaj accompanied by holy sadhus! Leaping up from his bed, Premji offered prostrations and asked with folded hands, “O Maharaj! Where are You gracing at this midnight hour?”
Shreeji Maharaj smiled lovingly and replied, “Premjibhai! We are proceeding to your house to escort your cow to Akshardham!”
Astonished, Premji Thakkar asked, “O Lord! What extraordinary spiritual merit could a mute bovine possess that You, the Supreme Lord of Akshardham Himself, personally arrive to take her?”
Shreeji Maharaj revealed the divine secret: “Premjibhai! The sanctified milk of that cow has been relished by Our holy ascetics and brahmacharis, and it was also offered to Us in thal which We gladly partook of! By virtue of this sublime service to God and His holy saints, she has earned the supreme merit of entering Akshardham!”
Saying this, Shreehari proceeded to Premji’s home and escorted the soul of the cow to Akshardham. In the morning, Premji arrived home and narrated the midnight vision to his family. When they went to the cattle shed, they found the cow lying peacefully with her head bowed towards the east. Overcome with devotional awe at the Lord’s boundless compassion towards even mute animals, the entire family rejoiced and praised Shreehari’s divine grace.
