અમદાવાદમાં વિકર્ણનો ઉદ્ધાર અને શાસ્ત્રી ભૂતની મુક્તિ
શ્રીજીમહારાજ અમદાવાદમાં દરિયાખાનના ઘૂમ્મટમાં સહું સંતો, કાઠીદરબારો અને પાર્ષદ અસવારો સહિત પધાર્યા હતા. ત્યાં દુર્યોધનનો નાનો ભાઈ વિકર્ણ જે પૂર્વે મુસલમાનનો નવાબ થયો હતો. પુર્વે મહાભારત સમયે રાજસભામાં પાંડવો જૂગટુમાં હારી જતા જ્યારે દ્રોપદીજીના ચીર પોતાના ભાઇ દુઃશાસને તાણ્યાં હતાં તે વખતે વિકર્ણે પાંડવોનો પક્ષ રાખ્યો હતો. તે મરીને મુસલમાન નવાબ થયો હતો. તે નવાબ મરીને અધોગતિને પામ્યો હતો.
જ્યારે ત્યાં શ્રીજીમહારાજ પધાર્યા ત્યારે તેણે આવીને માણકીની સરક ઝાલી ને પગે લાગ્યો અને એના કારભારી, છડીદાર, ચમરવાળો તથા છતરવાળો વિગેરે સૌ આવીને પણ શ્રીજીમહારાજને પગે લાગ્યા. પછી સૌ સ્વારે કહ્યું જે, “હે મહારાજ ! આ કોણ છે ?” ત્યારે શ્રીજીમહારાજ કહે, “આ દુર્યોધનનો નાનો ભાઈ વિકર્ણ, તેણે દ્રૌપદીજીનો ભરી રાજસભામાં પક્ષ રાખ્યો હતો. તે પુણ્યે કરીને તેને આ જન્મે અમારો યોગ થયો છે, તે હવે સત્સંગમાં જન્મ લેશે અને અમારો આશ્રિત થઈને અમારા અક્ષરધામને પામશે.” આમ, સત્યનો અને પતિવ્રતા નારીનો પક્ષ રાખ્યાના પ્રતાપે એનું શ્રીહરિએ ત્યાં કલ્યાણ કર્યું.
એ સમયે અમદાવાદ દરિયાખાનના ઘૂંમટમાં સંતો રહેતા હતા અને તેમાં કેટલાક સંતો ત્યાં રહીને વિદ્યાભ્યાસ કરતા હતા. તે ગામમાં શાળાએ જઈને પાઠ લઈ આવતા, ને સૌ અહીંયાં આવી પાઠ ગોખતા. આ અવાવરી જગ્યામાં પુર્વે કોઈ મોટા શાસ્ત્રી મરી ગયેલા તે અધોગતિને પામ્યા હતા. તે પેલા જીવતા શાસ્ત્રીના જેવું જ રૂપ ધારણ કરીને સંતોને નિત્ય પાઠ આપતા. પછી એક દિવસ પેલા શાસ્ત્રીએ પૂછ્યું જે, “મહાપુરુષો ! તમે ફરી કેમ પૂછવા આવતા નથી ? તમે પાઠ તો શુદ્ધ અને સત્ય બોલો છો” ત્યારે સંત કહે, “તમે નિરંતર રાત્રે ત્યાં પાઠ શીખવવાને પધારો છો ને ?” તે સાંભળી તે શાસ્ત્રી વિચારમાં પડ્યો અને સાધુને કહ્યું જે, “મહારાજ ! તમે બીશો નહીં ને ?” સાધુ કહે, “અમે સ્વામિનારાયણનું ભજન કરીએ છીએ, એટલે અમારી પાસે કોઈ આવી શકે નહીં.” પછી શાસ્ત્રી કહે, “એક મોટા વિદ્ધાન શાસ્ત્રી અગાઉ ગુજરી ગયા છે, તે અધોગતિને પામ્યા છે. તે તમોને શિખવાડવા સારુ આવતા હશે.” પછી રાત્રી થઈ ત્યારે સાધુને પાઠ શિખવાડવા તે શાસ્ત્રી આવ્યા. ત્યારે સંતોએ તેને પૂછ્યું જે, “તમે કોણ છો ?” ત્યારે શાસ્ત્રીએ પોતાના પૂર્વની બધી વાત કહી દેખાડી. તેથી ભણનારા સંતો તેને સદગુરુ મુક્તાનંદસ્વામી પાસે લઈ ગયા ને સ્વામીએ શ્રીજીમહારાજનાં મહિમાની વાતો કરીને સહુને ‘સ્વામિનારાયણ… સ્વામિનારાયણ’ એમ હરિનામની ધૂન્ય કરાવી, પછી તેને વર્તમાન ધરાવીને ભૂતયોનીમાંથી મુક્ત કરાવીને બદરિકાશ્રમમાં મોકલ્યા. એવો ‘સ્વામિનારાયણ’ મહામંત્ર નો મોટો પ્રતાપ છે.

अहमदाबाद में विकर्ण का उद्धार और शास्त्री प्रेत की मुक्ति
श्रीजी महाराज समस्त संतों, काठी दरबारों और पार्षद घुड़सवारों सहित अहमदाबाद में स्थित दरियाखान के गुंबद में पधारे। वहाँ दुर्योधन का छोटा भाई विकर्ण, जो अपने पूर्व जन्म में एक मुस्लिम नवाब बना था, उपस्थित हुआ। पूर्वकाल में महाभारत के समय द्यूतक्रीड़ा में पांडवों के पराजित होने पर जब दुःशासन ने भरी राजसभा में द्रौपदी जी का चीरहरण करने का दुःसाहस किया था, उस समय विकर्ण ने सत्य और पांडवों का पक्ष लिया था। कालांतर में मृत्यु के उपरांत वह एक मुस्लिम नवाब के रूप में जन्मा, और नवाब की देह छूटने के बाद वह अधोगति (प्रेत योनि) को प्राप्त हुआ था।
जब श्रीजी महाराज वहाँ पधारे, तब उसने आकर महाराज की घोड़ी माणकी की लगाम थाम ली और श्रीहरि के चरणों में शीश झुकाया। उसके साथ उसके कारभारी, छड़ीदार, चंवर डुलाने वाले तथा छत्रधारी आदि सभी ने आकर श्रीजी महाराज के श्रीचरणों में वंदन किया। यह देखकर साथ चल रहे घुड़सवार पार्षदों ने पूछा, “हे महाराज! यह कौन है?” तब श्रीजी महाराज ने फरमाया, “यह दुर्योधन का छोटा भाई विकर्ण है। इसने भरी राजसभा में पतिव्रता द्रौपदी जी का पक्ष लिया था। उसी पुण्य के प्रताप से आज इसे हमारा अलौकिक योग प्राप्त हुआ है। अब यह सत्संग में जन्म धारण करेगा, हमारा आश्रित बनेगा और हमारे परम धाम अक्षरधाम को प्राप्त करेगा।” इस प्रकार, सत्य और पतिव्रता नारी का पक्ष लेने के प्रभाव से श्रीहरि ने उसका परम कल्याण किया।
उसी समय अहमदाबाद के दरियाखान के गुंबद में स्वामीनारायण संत निवास करते थे और उनमें से कई संत वहाँ रहकर विद्याध्ययन करते थे। वे नगर की पाठशाला में जाकर विद्वान शास्त्री जी से पाठ सीखकर आते और यहाँ आकर उसका अभ्यास करते थे। उस निर्जन स्थान में पूर्वकाल में एक बड़े प्रकांड शास्त्री जी का देहांत हो गया था और वे अधोगति (भूत योनि) में पड़े थे। वे प्रेतरूप शास्त्री दिन में पढ़ाने वाले जीवित शास्त्री का ही रूप धारण करके रात्रि में संतों को प्रतिदिन पाठ पढ़ाने आते थे।
एक दिन मूल शास्त्री जी ने संतों से पूछा, “हे महापुरुषों! आप पुनः शंका-समाधान के लिए मेरे पास क्यों नहीं आते? आप तो पाठ एकदम शुद्ध और सही सुनाते हैं!” तब संतों ने सहज भाव से कहा, “आप स्वयं ही तो प्रतिदिन रात्रि को गुंबद में पधारकर हमें पाठ सिखाते हैं!” यह सुनकर शास्त्री जी गहरे विचार में पड़ गए और संतों से बोले, “महाराज! आप डरेंगे तो नहीं?” साधुओं ने निर्भय होकर उत्तर दिया, “हम साक्षात् भगवान स्वामिनारायण का भजन करते हैं, इसलिए कोई भी हमारे समीप नहीं आ सकता।” तब शास्त्री जी ने कहा, “मुझसे पूर्व यहाँ एक अत्यंत प्रकांड विद्वान शास्त्री जी का देहांत हुआ था, जो अधोगति को प्राप्त हुए हैं। निश्चय ही वे ही आपको पढ़ाने आते होंगे।”
रात्रि होने पर जब वे प्रेतरूप शास्त्री संतों को पाठ पढ़ाने आए, तब संतों ने उनसे पूछा, “आप वास्तव में कौन हैं?” तब उस शास्त्री ने अपने पूर्वजन्म की समस्त व्यथा और वृत्तांत कह सुनाया। अध्ययनरत संत उन्हें सद्गुरु मुक्तानंद स्वामी के पास ले गए। मुक्तानंद स्वामी ने उन्हें श्रीजी महाराज की अगाध महिमा सुनाई और सभी से ‘स्वामिनारायण… स्वामिनारायण’ महामंत्र की धुन करवाई। तत्पश्चात उन्हें वर्तमान (नियम) धारण कराकर प्रेत योनि से मुक्त किया और बद्रिकाश्रम भेजा। ऐसा दिव्य और अलौकिक प्रताप है ‘स्वामिनारायण’ महामंत्र का!

The Redemption of Vikarna and the Liberation of the Scholarly Ghost in Ahmedabad
Supreme Lord Shriji Maharaj arrived at Dariyakhans Ghummat (dome) in Ahmedabad, accompanied by His divine assembly of sadhus, Kathi Darbars, and attendant horsemen (parshads). Present there in subtle spirit form was Vikarna—the younger brother of Duryodhana from the Mahabharata era—who in a later birth had become a Muslim Nawab. In ancient times, when the Pandavas were defeated in the game of dice and Dushasana attempted to disrobe Draupadi in the royal court, Vikarna had courageously taken the side of truth, defending Draupadi and the Pandavas. After dying, he had reincarnated as a Muslim Nawab, and upon leaving that body, had fallen into a ghostly, fallen state (adhogati).
When Shriji Maharaj arrived there, Vikarna approached, held the reins of Maharaj’s mare Manki, and bowed reverently at the Lord’s feet. His retinue—including his administrator, mace-bearer, whisk-bearer, and parasol-bearer—likewise came and offered prostrations to Shriji Maharaj. Witnessing this, the attendant horsemen asked, “O Maharaj! Who is this?” Shriji Maharaj revealed, “This is Vikarna, the younger brother of Duryodhana. In the open royal assembly, he took the side of the chaste Draupadi. By virtue of that righteous merit, he has attained our divine communion today. He will now take birth in Satsang, become our dedicated devotee, and attain our supreme abode of Akshardham.” In this manner, by standing up for truth and a chaste woman, Shri Hari granted him ultimate salvation.
During that period, some of Shriji Maharaj’s sadhus resided at Dariyakhans Ghummat while pursuing their scriptural studies (vidyabhyas). They would attend the local town school each day to learn their lessons from a scholarly Shastri and then return to the dome to practice and memorize. In that secluded place, an eminent scholar from former times had passed away and fallen into a ghostly state (adhogati). Taking on the exact physical form of the living school teacher, that spirit scholar would visit the sadhus every night to tutor them in their lessons.
One day, the living scholar asked the sadhus, “O holy souls! Why do you never come back to clarify any doubts? You recite your lessons with utmost purity and precision!” The sadhus replied, “Do you not visit us every night at the dome to teach us?” Astonished, the scholar pondered deeply and asked, “Maharaj! Will you not be frightened if I tell you?” The sadhus serenely replied, “We constantly sing the praises of Bhagwan Swaminarayan; therefore, no evil entity can ever come near us.” The scholar then explained, “Before my time, a renowned scholar passed away here and fell into a fallen ghostly state. It must surely be him visiting you each night to instruct you.”
When night fell and the spirit scholar arrived to teach, the sadhus asked him, “Who are you truly?” The spirit scholar revealed the entire truth of his previous life. The student sadhus then brought him before Sadguru Muktanand Swami. Swami enlightened him on the divine glory of Shriji Maharaj and led everyone in chanting the sacred dhun of ‘Swaminarayan… Swaminarayan.’ Swami then initiated him into the moral vows (vartaman), liberating him completely from the ghostly realm and dispatching him to the holy realm of Badrikashram. Such is the magnificent, boundless power of the sacred ‘Swaminarayan’ Mahamantra!
