ટોરડામાં સાધુ ગોપાળદાસના ભૂત દ્વારા ઠાકોરજીનું સિંહાસન ખેંચવાની સિદ્ધિ, મોતીરામ ભટ્ટના ઘરે સિંહાસન ચોંટી જવું અને સદ્ગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી (બાળ ખુશાલ ભટ્ટ)ની અદ્ભુત સામર્થી.
સંવત ૧૮૫૬ના જેઠ મહિનામાં ગોપાળદાસ નામના એક રામાનુજ સાધુ ગામ ટોરડામાં ચાતુર્માસ ગાળવા આવ્યા. તેઓ ગામના રાધાકૃષ્ણ મંદિરમાં ઊતર્યા. ગામના બ્રાહ્મણો અને સોની પરિવારો તેમને વારાફરતી પોતાને ઘેર જમવાનું નોતરું આપતા. આ ગોપાળદાસ સાધુ રોજ પોતાના ઠાકોરજીને સાથે લઈને જમવા જતા અને જમીને ઠાકોરજીને ત્યાં જ મૂકીને મંદિરે પાછા આવી જતા. દરરોજ સંધ્યાકાળે તેમના ઠાકોરજીનું સિંહાસન આપોઆપ હવામાં ઊડીને મંદિરે પહોંચી જતું! આ ચમત્કાર જોઈને ગામના લોકોનો અહોભાવ ખૂબ વધતો જતો હતો. વાસ્તવમાં આ સાધુએ એક ભૂતને વશ કરેલો હતો, જે દરરોજ સિંહાસન ઉપાડીને મંદિરે મૂકી જતો હતો.
એક દિવસ મોતીરામ ભટ્ટ (સદ્ગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીના પૂજ્ય પિતાજી)ને ઘેર સાધુને જમાડવાનો વારો આવ્યો. ગોપાળદાસ ઠાકોરજી સાથે જમવા પધાર્યા. ભોજન પછી જ્યારે સાધુ જવા લાગ્યા ત્યારે માતા જીવીબાએ કહ્યું, “મહારાજ ! આપ ઠાકોરજી તો ભૂલી ગયા, સાથે લેતા જાઓ!” સાધુએ અહંકારથી કહ્યું, “હમારે ઠાકોરજી તો અપને આપ શામ કો ચલે આતે હૈં!”
તે દિવસે બપોર પછી સાધુએ ભૂતને સિંહાસન લાવવા મોકલ્યો, પરંતુ ગોવિંદ પટેલની દીવાલ પાસે આવતાં જ ભૂત અટકી ગયો અને ભટકાઈને પાછો ભાગ્યો! ફરી મોકલ્યો તોપણ ભૂત બોલ્યો, “મારાથી મોતીરામ ભટ્ટના ઘરમાં પ્રવેશી શકાતું નથી; ત્યાં કોઈ પ્રચંડ તેજવાળા મહાપુરુષ (ખુશાલ ભટ્ટ) બિરાજે છે!”
આ સાંભળી સાધુ ગોપાળદાસ ક્રોધિત થઈ પોતે જ સિંહાસન લેવા મોતીરામ ભટ્ટના ઘરે પહોંચ્યા. જેવા તેઓ સિંહાસન ઉપાડવા નીચે નમ્યા અને સિંહાસનને સ્પર્શ કર્યો, તે જ ક્ષણે તેઓ જમીન અને સિંહાસન સાથે પથ્થરની જેમ ચોંટી ગયા! તેમના હાથ-પગ જડ થઈ ગયા અને પૂતળાની માફક સ્તબ્ધ બની ગયા! છૂટવાના અથાક પ્રયત્નો કર્યા છતાં લેશમાત્ર હલી શક્યા નહીં.
આ અદ્ભુત કૌતુક જોવા આખું ગામ ભેગું થઈ ગયું. તે વખતે બાળ ખુશાલ ભટ્ટ ઓરડામાં ગામના છોકરાઓને વેદ-શાસ્ત્રનો અભ્યાસ કરાવતા હતા. કુબેરદાસ સોનીએ આવીને કહ્યું, “ખુશાલભાઈ ! જુઓ તો ખરા, તમારા આંગણામાં સાધુ ચોંટી ગયા છે અને ગામ ઊભરાયું છે!” ખુશાલ ભટ્ટે હસતાં હસતાં કહ્યું, “આજે ઠાકોરજી ધરાઈને જમ્યા છે, એટલે સાધુ ઉપર રિસાયા હશે અને સાધુ એમને મનાવતા હશે!”
કુબેરદાસના આગ્રહથી ખુશાલ ભટ્ટ બહાર પધાર્યા. તેમણે ઠાકોરજી સન્મુખ બે હાથ જોડી પ્રાર્થના કરી: “હે પ્રભો ! આપને ન પધારવું હોય તો ભલે અહીં રહો, પરંતુ આ ગરીબ સાધુ મહારાજને તો મુક્ત કરો!” ખુશાલ ભટ્ટના મુખમાંથી આ શબ્દો નીકળતાં જ સાધુના હાથ-પગ છૂટા થઈ ગયા અને તેઓ સામાન્ય સ્થિતિમાં આવ્યા! ચમત્કારથી સ્તબ્ધ થયેલા સાધુ ગોપાળદાસ ખુશાલ ભટ્ટના ચરણોમાં નમી પડ્યા અને તે જ રાત્રે પોતાના ઠાકોરજીને પણ ત્યાં જ મૂકીને ચૂપચાપ ગામ છોડીને ચાલ્યા ગયા. આમ, ભાવિ યોગીવર્ય ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીના અલૌકિક સામર્થ્યથી દંભી સિદ્ધિનો પર્દાફાશ થયો.

तोरडा में रामानुज साधु गोपालदास का आडंबर, वश किया भूत और खुशाल भट्ट का दिव्य सामर्थ्य
संवत १८५६ के ज्येष्ठ मास में गोपालदास नामक एक रामानुज साधु तोरडा गांव में चातुर्मास व्यतीत करने आए। वे गांव के राधाकृष्ण मंदिर में ठहरे। गांव के ब्राह्मण व अन्य भक्त उन्हें बारी-बारी से भोजन हेतु आमंत्रित करते थे। यह साधु नित्य अपने ठाकुरजी को साथ लेकर जाते, भोजनोपरांत ठाकुरजी को वहीं छोड़कर मंदिर लौट आते थे। शाम होते ही ठाकुरजी का सिंहासन अपने आप उड़कर मंदिर पहुंच जाता था! ग्रामीण इसे साधु की महान सिद्धि मानते थे। वास्तव में उस साधु ने एक प्रेत (भूत) को वश में कर रखा था, जो अदृश्य रहकर सिंहासन उठा लाता था।
एक दिन मोतीराम भट्ट (सद्गुरु गोपालनंद स्वामी के पिता) के घर साधु को भोजन कराने की बारी आई। साधु पधारे, भोजन किया। प्रस्थान के समय माता जीवीबा ने कहा, “महाराज ! आप ठाकुरजी को भूल गए, साथ ले जाइए।” साधु ने अहंकार से कहा, “हमारे ठाकुरजी तो शाम को अपने आप चले आते हैं।”
शाम को साधु ने भूत को सिंहासन लाने भेजा, किंतु गोविंद पटेल की दीवार के पास आते ही प्रेत भयभीत होकर लौट आया और बोला, “मोतीराम भट्ट के घर में कोई अत्यंत तेजस्वी महापुरुष (बालक खुशाल भट्ट) विराजमान हैं, उनके दिव्य प्रभाव के कारण मैं उस घर में प्रवेश नहीं कर सकता!”
क्रोधित होकर साधु गोपालदास स्वयं सिंहासन उठाने पहुंचे। जैसे ही उन्होंने झुककर सिंहासन को स्पर्श किया, वे पाषाण की भांति भूमि और सिंहासन से चिपक गए! वे जड़वत पुतले की तरह स्तब्ध हो गए और तनिक भी हिल न सके।
यह कौतुक देखकर पूरा गांव उमड़ पड़ा। उस समय बालक खुशाल भट्ट बालकों को विद्याध्ययन करा रहे थे। कुबेरदास सोनी ने आकर निवेदन किया, तब खुशाल भट्ट बाहर आए। उन्होंने ठाकुरजी से प्रार्थना की, “हे प्रभु ! यदि आपकी जाने की इच्छा न हो तो न सही, किंतु इस साधु महाराज को तो मुक्त कर दीजिए!” खुशाल भट्ट के वचन पूर्ण होते ही साधु के अंग शिथिल होकर मुक्त हो गए। भयभीत व नतमस्तक होकर साधु ने खुशाल भट्ट के चरण छुए और उसी रात अपने ठाकुरजी को वहीं छोड़कर गांव से पलायन कर गया।

The Pretence of Ramanuja Sadhu Gopaldas in Torda, the Subdued Ghost, and Khushal Bhatt’s Divinity
In the month of Jyeshtha, Samvat 1856, a Ramanuja ascetic named Gopaldas arrived in the village of Torda to observe the four holy months of monsoon (Chaturmas). He lodged at the village Radhakrishna temple. The villagers hosted him for lunch by turns. Strangely, the sadhu would carry his Thakorji’s throne to the host’s house, partake of the meal, and return to the temple leaving the deity behind. Every evening, the throne would miraculously fly back through the air and land at the temple! Awed by this apparent spiritual feat, the villagers held him in high esteem. In truth, the ascetic had subdued an evil ghost who carried the throne unseen.
One day, the turn came for Motiram Bhatt (the revered father of Sadguru Gopalanand Swami). Gopaldas arrived, consecrated the food, and relished the meal. As he prepared to leave, mother Jiviba reminded him, “Maharaj, you have forgotten your Thakorji; please take Him along.” The ascetic replied boastfully, “Our Thakorji returns on His own every evening!”
Later that afternoon, the ascetic commanded the ghost to fetch the throne. However, near Govind Patel’s boundary wall, the ghost was violently repelled and fled back in terror. The ghost pleaded, “I cannot enter Motiram Bhatt’s dwelling; an immensely luminous divine personality (young Khushal Bhatt) resides there, whose transcendental brilliance repels all spirits!”
Furious, Gopaldas marched to Motiram Bhatt’s house to retrieve the deity himself. The moment he bent down and laid his hands upon the throne, he was instantly glued to the floor and the throne like a stone statue! Paralyzed and immobilized, he stood rigid as a wooden doll, completely unable to stir despite agonizing efforts.
A large crowd gathered in astonishment. At that time, young Khushal Bhatt was inside instructing village youths in Vedic scriptures. When Kuberdas Soni informed him of the commotion, Khushal Bhatt emerged with a serene smile. Folding his hands before Thakorji, he prayed: “O Lord, if You do not wish to depart, You may remain here; but kindly release this poor ascetic!” The instant Khushal Bhatt uttered these words, the sadhu was instantly liberated from the paralyzing force! Overwhelmed with awe and humbleness, the ascetic prostrated before Khushal Bhatt, abandoned his false pretensions, and quietly fled the village that very night leaving his deity behind.
