Nagadka Nathuji Darbar Theplu Yampuri
In the village of Nagadka near Gondal lived chieftain Nathuji Darbar, a pious soul who accompanied his devout carpenter friend Naranjibhai Suthar to Gadhpur for darshan. Having finished their packed provisions on the long walk, only a single flatbread (theplu) remained when they reached the sacred Ghela river, which they shared half-and-half after bathing. Entering Dada Khachar’s courtyard, omniscient Bhagwan Swaminarayan immediately instructed Mulji Brahmachari: “Take these two pilgrims to Laduba to be served lunch!” When Naranjibhai politely declined saying they had already eaten, Shreehari laughed: “Does splitting a single flatbread into two halves constitute a full meal?” Nathuji was spellbound by the Lord’s omniscience.
Bound by sectarian vows to an earlier guru, Nathuji did not accept formal initiation then, but the divine form of Shreehari remained permanently enshrined in his soul. Months later, Nathuji fell critically ill and slipped into a deep coma. In this state, emissaries of death brought his soul to the netherworld (Yampuri). Terrified by the horrific punishments, Nathuji trembled until Yamaraja himself bowed reverently: “Chieftain! You have personally beheld Bhagwan Swaminarayan, the Supreme Purushottam; you do not belong in Yampuri! These torments are meant for sinful transgressors. We brought you merely to show this realm; return to your mortal body and seek complete refuge at Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s lotus feet!”
As grieving family members prepared his funeral bier, Nathuji suddenly sat up fully revived! Regaining his health, he rushed straight to Gadhpur, placed his head at Shreehari’s lotus feet, took sacred vows, and lived as an exalted devotee for the rest of his life.
