Kariyana Venu Naad Kalu Makwana Purvaj Moksha

In Kariyana, fulfilling the heartfelt longing of chieftain Jiva Dhadhal to witness Lord Krishna’s divine flute playing, Bhagwan Swaminarayan walked to the scenic Vansavadi ridge on a radiant Sharad Purnima night. Assuming the enchanting three-fold bending posture (tribhangi mudra), Shreehari played the celestial flute, articulating divine Samavedic melodies (Brihadantar and Mahavaishvanar). Gods from the heavens gathered in the sky, while cows dashed from nearby pens, surrounding Shreehari in mesmerized adoration. The entire gathering experienced transcendental samadhi, beholding the Lord as Krishna playing His flute on the banks of the Yamuna surrounded by gopis! Sadguru Brahmanand Swami composed the celebrated hymn on the spot: “Vahaale vajaadi chhe vaansali re, Kaalindi ne teer…!” The sanctified stones upon which Shreehari stood resonate with bell-like chime tones to this day, venerated as the Jhalariya Pattharo.

The following morning, Shreehari visited the home of Kalu Makwana. Noticing a shuttered room housing ancestral stone tablets (phala) where superstitious relatives performed spirit-invocations (dhunva), Kalu pleaded for spiritual deliverance. Shreehari had all the ancestral stones bundled into a sack. Vijalba lovingly served roasted, spiced maize corn (makai na doda), which Shreehari enjoyed and shared with Kalu and Darbar Deha Khachar.

Late in the afternoon, Shreehari walked to the confluence of the Kalubhar river and the Ravatiyo stream. Touching each ancestral stone to His holy lotus feet before consigning them to the waters, the departed ancestors instantly shed their ghostly forms (pret deh), assumed effulgent four-armed celestial bodies (chaturbhuja), boarded radiant heavenly vimanas, and departed for Vaikunth and Golok! Shreehari proclaimed the holy sanctity of Kalubhar river as ten million times greater than that of the sacred Kalindi (Yamuna): “Kalubhar tano mahimay, kahyo shreemukhe Hariray; Kalindi thaki kotik ganu, kahyu mahatmya te teerath tanu!!”
