Bamroli Takha Pagi Sharad Poonam Rayan

Just three kilometers from Vadtal lies the village of Bamroli, home to celebrated devotee Takha Pagi and his devoted wife Ujamba. Bound by their pure affection, Bhagwan Swaminarayan frequently visited Bamroli to sanctify their home. Blessed with an abundant paddy harvest one year, Ujamba and her two daughters resolved to prepare fresh flattened rice (pauva) to celebrate the Sharad Purnima festival with Shreehari.

Shreeji Maharaj arrived in Bamroli with an entourage of saints and householders, staying at Takha Pagi’s residence. Under the resplendent autumn full moon, sanctified sweetened milk and flattened rice (doodh-pauva) were offered to the deities and distributed personally by Shreehari’s own divine hands. Following the feast, Shreehari engaged in an ecstatic divine Raas dance with the saints and devotees. Delighted by Ujamba’s devotion, Shreehari gifted His own sanctified garments for worship.

In Vaishakh of Samvat 1872, Takha Pagi brought eight cartloads of ripe mangoes, and beneath the sacred Rayan tree, Shreehari organized a grand Mango Feast (Aamra Rasotsav). Even after the vast assembly feasted on mango pulp and flatbreads, bushels of mangoes remained, which Shreehari distributed by gifting seven mangoes to each devotee. In Samvat 1879, beneath the same Rayan tree, Shreehari played an exuberant festival of colors, drenching the tree, the swing, and Himself in crimson gulal.

During the horrific famine of Samvat 1869 (the historic Ogantero dukaal), Takha Pagi’s grain stores dwindled until merely half a maund (approx. 10 kg) of millet (bajri) remained in their earthen grain bin (kothi). Visiting Bamroli, Shreehari commanded: “Seal the upper lid of this storage bin securely with cow-dung plaster. Never open it from the top; draw millet only from the dispensing spout at the bottom, and feed any hungry soul who comes to your door. The grain within this bin shall never diminish!” True to the Lord’s divine prophecy, the bin continuously yielded fresh grain day after day throughout the entire severe famine, sustaining the family and neighbors until prosperity returned.
