સમુદ્ર કિનારે ગોપનાથ મહાદેવમાં નીલકંઠ વર્ણીનું ભરતી વચ્ચે અખંડ ધ્યાન, મહંત નૃસિંહાનંદ બ્રહ્મચારીજીને ઈષ્ટદેવ સ્વરૂપે દર્શન અને અંતકાળે ધામગમન લીલા.
કલ્યાણ યાત્રા દરમિયાન બાળયોગી નીલકંઠ વર્ણી સૌરાષ્ટ્રના સમુદ્ર તટે બિરાજમાન સુપ્રસિદ્ધ ગોપનાથ મહાદેવ પધાર્યા. સમુદ્રની વેળુમાં રેતીની વેંત ઊંચી પાળ કરી, છાણાંની ધૂણી પ્રગટાવી વર્ણી ધ્યાનમાં લીન થઈ ગયા. સંધ્યા આથમતાં સમુદ્રમાં ઘોડાપૂર ભરતી આવી અને ચારેકોર જળબંબાકાર થઈ ગયું. મંદિરના મહંત નૃસિંહાનંદ બ્રહ્મચારીજીએ વિચાર્યું કે આ પ્રચંડ ભરતીમાં સુકલકડી વર્ણી કાં તો તણાઈ ગયા હશે અથવા ડૂબી ગયા હશે!
પ્રભાતે જ્યારે સાધુઓ સમુદ્ર સ્નાન કરવા આવ્યા, ત્યારે તેમણે જોયું કે નીલકંઠ વર્ણી અગાધ શાંતિમાં યથાવત ધ્યાનસ્થ બેઠા હતા! તેમની રેતીની પાળ અને છાણાંની ધૂણીની રાખ સુદ્ધાં સમુદ્રના મોજાં વચ્ચે કોરીકટ હતી! સાદ કરી વર્ણીને જગાડતાં જ તેમના દિવ્ય મુખારવિંદમાંથી એવો તેજપુંજ પ્રગટ્યો કે મહંતને પોતાના સાક્ષાત ઇષ્ટદેવના દર્શન થયા. મહંત વર્ણીને આશ્રમમાં લઈ આવ્યા, ત્રણ રાત્રિ રોકી ભાવપૂર્વક થાળ જમાડ્યા અને આગ્રહ કર્યો: “વર્ણી! આપ અહીં જ રોકાઈ જાઓ અને આ ગોપનાથ તીર્થના મહંત બનો!” વર્ણી હસીને બોલ્યા: “અમારે મહંતાઈમાં કોઈ રસ નથી, અમારે તો તીર્થયાત્રા કરી દ્વારિકાધીશના દર્શને જવું છે.”
હરિલીલામૃતમાં નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામીએ નોંધ્યું છે: “ત્યાંના બાવાજીએ કરી સેવા, અન્ન પાણી અને દીધા મેવા..! દીધો બાવાજીને ઉપદેશ, તેથી જાણ્યા તેણે પરમેશ..!! બાવે તો વિનતિ કરી ઘણી, તમે થાઓ આ જગ્યાના ધણી..! ધર્મપુત્રે તો તેની ના પાડી, પણ ત્યાં ત્રણ રાત વિતાડી…!!”
વર્ષો પછી મહંતને જાણ થઈ કે તે નીલકંઠ વર્ણી હાલ ગઢપુરમાં ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણ તરીકે બિરાજે છે. તેમણે પત્ર લખી ગઢપુર આમંત્રણ પાઠવ્યું. મોટો સંઘ સાથે જતાં મહંતને અતિશય આર્થિક ખર્ચ થશે એવા દયાળુ વિચારે શ્રીહરિ પોતે ન જતાં યોગાનંદ સ્વામી આદિ સંતોને મોકલ્યા. અંતકાળે શ્રીજીમહારાજ સ્વયં પ્રગટ થઈ મહંત નૃસિંહાનંદ બ્રહ્મચારીજીને દર્શન આપી અક્ષરધામમાં તેડી ગયા.

ગોપનાથ મહાદેવમાં નીલકંઠ વર્ણી, મહંત નૃસિંહાનંદ બ્રહ્મચારી અને અંતકાળે દર્શન
कल्याण यात्रा के दौरान बालयोगी नीलकंठ वर्णी सौराष्ट्र के समुद्र तट पर स्थित सुप्रसिद्ध गोपीनाथ महादेव पधारे। समुद्र की रेती पर एक बित्ता ऊंची बालू की मेढ़ बनाकर और कंडे की धूनी सुलगाकर वर्णी समाधि में लीन हो गए। संध्या समय समुद्र में भयंकर ज्वार आया और सर्वत्र जल ही जल हो गया। मंदिर के महंत नृसिंहानंद ब्रह्मचारी ने सोचा कि वह सुकोमल वर्णी बह गया होगा।
प्रातःकाल जब साधु स्नान हेतु आए, तो उन्होंने देखा कि नीलकंठ वर्णी शांत मुद्रा में ध्यानमग्न बैठे थे! उनकी बालू की मेढ़ और धूनी की भस्म जल के बीच पूर्णतः सूखी थी! वर्णी के मुखमंडल से दिव्य तेज प्रस्फुटित हुआ और महंत को अपने इष्टदेव का साक्षात दर्शन हुआ। महंत ने उन्हें तीन दिनों तक आश्रम में रखकर सेवा की और पीठ का महंत बनने का आग्रह किया। वर्णी ने कहा कि उन्हें महंताई में कोई रुचि नहीं है, उन्हें तो द्वारिकाधीश की यात्रा करनी है।
वर्षों पश्चात जब महंत को ज्ञात हुआ कि वे नीलकंठ वर्णी ही गढपुर में भगवान स्वामिनारायण के रूप में प्रकट हैं, तो उन्होंने भावभीना पत्र लिखा। अंतकाल में श्रीहरि स्वयं पधारकर महंत नृसिंहानंद ब्रह्मचारी को दिव्य दर्शन देकर अपने परमधाम ले गए।

Gopnath Mahadev Nilkanth Varni Nrusinhanand
During His extensive forest pilgrimage (Kalyan Yatra), the young yogic ascetic Nilkanth Varni arrived at the ancient seaside shrine of Gopnath Mahadev on the coastline of Saurashtra. Forming a small sand embankment on the shore and lighting a small fire of cow-dung cakes (dhooni), Varni sat deeply absorbed in divine meditation. As darkness fell, a tempestuous ocean tide rushed in, submerging the entire surrounding coastline in roaring waves. The temple mahant, Nrusinhanand Brahmachari, looked out and despaired, presuming the frail young ascetic must have drowned in the sea.
At sunrise, when the resident ascetics arrived at the shore to bathe, they were struck with amazement: Nilkanth Varni remained seated in profound, undisturbed samadhi! Astonishingly, His one-span sand embankment remained completely dry, and the ashes of His dung-fire were wholly untouched by the surrounding waters! As they awakened Him, radiant celestial light shone from His divine countenance, revealing to the Mahant the sublime form of his personal Ishtadev. Deeply captivated, the Mahant hosted Varni in his ashram for three nights, serving Him exquisite meals and pleading: “O Varni! Please reside here permanently and become the head Mahant and master of this sacred shrine!” Varni smiled gently: “We possess no desire for monastic titles; Our journey must continue to holy shrines and Lord Dwarkadhish.”
Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami documented this in Harileelamrut: “Tyana bavajie kari seva, anna paani ane deedha meva; Deedho bavajine updesh, tethi jaanya tene Paramesh! Baave to vinanti kari ghani, tame thao aa jagyana dhani; Dharmaputre to teni na paadi, pan tya tran raat vitaadi!!”
Decades later, the Mahant discovered that the marvelous Nilkanth Varni was now revered as Bhagwan Swaminarayan in Gadhpur, and sent a heartfelt invitation letter. In order to spare the ascetic heavy expenses of hosting a massive royal retinue, compassionate Shreehari sent a delegation led by Yoganand Swami. When Nrusinhanand Brahmachari reached his final moments, Bhagwan Swaminarayan personally manifested before him and escorted him to the eternal Akshardham.
