Agatrai Govindram Bhatt Fuleku Bhumanand Swami
During His stay in the village of Agatrai, Shreehari showered immense grace upon Govindram Bhatt, an impoverished Brahmin devotee who was continually postponing the sacred thread ceremony (yagnopavit/janoi) of his young son, Narayanji, due to acute poverty. Discerning Bhattji’s inner distress, Shreehari proactively declared, “Govindram! Celebrate your son’s sacred thread ceremony right now; We shall personally host and grace the occasion!”
Mounting His magnificent Rozo stallion, Shreehari led a celebratory procession (fuleku) through the streets of Agatrai, with young Narayanji riding a modest horse behind Him. As the joyous village folk gathered to offer monetary gifts (pah), Shreehari instructed that all cash donations be deposited directly with Him, while coconuts and sugar candy were handed to the boy. Watching this unfold, poor Govindram was plagued by doubt, whispering to himself: “He is hailed as God, yet why this attachment to wealth? Instead of easing the burden of a destitute Brahmin, He is gathering all the money for Himself!” Omniscient Shreehari smiled gently, reading every anxious thought in Govindram’s mind. The staunch devotee Parvatbhai was the first to offer one hundred silver queen coins at Shreehari’s lotus feet, followed by enthusiastic contributions from the entire village.
Beholding Shreehari gracefully swaying upon the Rozo horse with unmatched charm, Sadguru Bhumanand Swami was divinely inspired and composed an immortal devotional hymn: “Come, all my companions, to behold our very Life! Swaying gracefully through the village streets comes our Beloved! I have pledged my eternal hand in spiritual union with Hari; Bhumanand says, my human birth is now truly fruitful!”
Upon returning to the residence, Shreehari inquired how much money had been gathered in donations. The attendants counted exactly five hundred rupees. Calling young Narayanji forward, Shreehari placed the entire sum of five hundred rupees into the boy’s hands and announced before the entire congregation: “Govindram! Narayanji is not merely your son; he is Our son as well. How could We let him depart without Our divine wedding gift? Take all five hundred rupees gathered today as Our personal blessing! Spend three hundred on the sacred thread festivities, and use the remaining two hundred for your household necessities.”
Overcome with shame and profound remorse for his cynical thoughts, Govindram Bhatt fell prostrate at Shreehari’s lotus feet, weeping bitterly: “O Merciful Lord! Forgive this wretched Brahmin who failed to recognize Your divine compassion!” Shreehari gently lifted him up and comforted him with tender affection, preserving His devotee’s honor and gifting Satsang an immortal devotional kirtan.
