Nilkanth Varni’s Holy Visit to Rambhai and Amrutba in Piparla, the Bajra Rotlo, and the Sacred Veranda Pillar

During His extensive forest wanderings, the youthful ascetic Bhagwan Shree Nilkanth Varni arrived at the village of Piparla, nestled near the holy shrine of Gopanath Mahadev along the coastal belt of Saurashtra. This village was home to pious Paliwal Brahmins who earned an honest livelihood through farming, upholding the noble discipline of not begging (ayachak vritti). Residing in Piparla was a spiritually radiant couple, Rambhai Paliwal and his devout wife Amrutba, who lived an austere life centered on divine contemplation and hospitably serving visiting ascetics.

Beholding Nilkanth Varni’s slender, penance-purified frame, matted locks, luminous forehead, small water-pot (kamandalu), holy scriptures, and captivating smile, onlookers were enchanted. Today was the destined hour when Rambhai and Amrutba’s lifelong spiritual austerities bore ultimate fruit! Nilkanth Varni walked straight into their sunlit courtyard, calling out: “Jay Sachchidanand Narayan Prabho Hare..!” Rambhai and Amrutba hurried forward and offered prostrations at the young celibate’s lotus feet. Amrutba pleaded with maternal affection: “O holy Varni! Rather than troubling You with raw rations to cook, pray rest awhile; I shall bake a fresh, piping-hot bajra rotlo on the hearth and feed You immediately!” Stepping into the kitchen, Amrutba baked a wholesome pearl-millet rotlo, arranged it on a platter with pure ghee, raw jaggery, spicy pickle, and roasted papad, and seated Nilkanth Varni comfortably upon the veranda, leaning against a sturdy wooden pillar.

As Rambhai and Amrutba sat at a short distance, drinking in the divine nectar of the young ascetic’s face, both were suddenly transported into profound samadhi! In that transcendental state, they witnessed infinite millions of cosmic universes floating like minute atoms within every pore of Nilkanth Varni’s sacred body! Furthermore, they beheld Nilkanth Varni enthroned upon a resplendent golden throne in Akshardham as Supreme Purushottam Narayan, surrounded by infinite Muktas. This cosmic revelation bestowed upon them absolute, unwavering conviction of His supreme divinity. Awakening from samadhi, tears of spiritual ecstasy streamed down their faces as they sang His glory. Touched by their pure-hearted love, Nilkanth Varni remained as their guest for two days. The sacred wooden pillar on the veranda against which Nilkanth Varni leaned while partaking of the millet bread has been revered as a holy relic (prasadi-ni thambhli) down through the generations. To this day, over sixty families comprising the seventh, eighth, and ninth generations of Rambhai’s lineage remain staunch followers of Satsang.
