“શ્રીહરિની આજ્ઞાએ અટાણે જ જાઉં”—ડોસા શેઠ વગર ખર્ચે કાશી યાત્રા કરી આવ્યા; ગામમાં તલવારો સાથે આવેલી ધાડ ખાલી હાથે પાછી વળી અને પ્રભુએ ભક્તને ઉગારી લીધા.
એક વખત સર્વાવતારી શ્રીજીમહારાજ સૌરાષ્ટ્રના શ્રી બંધિયા ગામે પધાર્યા. સદગુરુ રામાનંદ સ્વામીના પરમ કૃપાપાત્ર દરબાર મુળુભાઈના દરબારગઢમાં માઢ-મેડી પર વિશાળ સત્સંગ સભા ભરીને શ્રીહરિ બિરાજમાન હતા. તે સમયે શ્રીહરિના અનન્ય આજ્ઞાંકિત ભક્ત ડોસા શેઠ સભામાં આવ્યા અને શ્રીજીમહારાજના ચરણોમાં સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કરીને બેઠા. શ્રીહરિએ તેમને પૂછ્યું: “ડોસા ભગત! ગુરુદેવ રામાનંદ સ્વામીએ તમને પૂર્વે કાશીની જાત્રા કરવાની આજ્ઞા કરી હતી, તે તમે કેમ ન ગયા?” ડોસા ભગતે નમ્રતાથી હાથ જોડી કહ્યું: “હે મહારાજ! એ તો મારી મોટી ભૂલ થઈ; હવે જો આપ આજ્ઞા કરો તો હું આ ક્ષણે જ જાત્રાએ નીકળી જાઉં!” શ્રીહરિ હસીને બોલ્યા: “તો આ ટાણે ને આ ટાણે જ તત્કાળ નીકળી પડો!” ડોસા શેઠે કહ્યું: “હું ઘેર જઈ મારી ડોશીને પૂછીને હમણાં જ રવાના થાઉં.” ઘેર જઈ પૂછતાં તેમની પત્નીએ પણ કહ્યું: “મહારાજ આજ્ઞા કરતા હોય તો આ ક્ષણે જ નીકળી જાઓ!” ડોસા શેઠ પાછા આવ્યા અને શ્રીહરિને પગે લાગી પૂછ્યું: “મહારાજ! કાશી આવવા-જવાનું ભાડું અને ખર્ચી-પાણીનું કેમ થશે?” શ્રીહરિએ હસીને કહ્યું: “રસ્તામાં બધુંય ખાવા-પીવાનું થઈ રહેશે, તમે પ્રભુ ભરોસે નીકળો!”
ડોસા શેઠ વગર પૈસે કે ભાથે શ્રીહરિના ચરણે વંદન કરી કાશી જવા પગપાળા નીકળી પડ્યા. હજુ બંધિયાની સીમમાંથી એકાદ ગાઉ ચાલ્યા હશે, ત્યાં ઉત્તર ભારત તરફ જતો એક વિશાળ સંઘ સામો મળ્યો. સંઘના મુખીએ ડોસા શેઠને પૂછ્યું: “ભાઈ! તમે કઈ જ્ઞાતિના છો અને ક્યાં જાઓ છો?” ડોસા શેઠે કહ્યું: “અમે વણિક છીએ અને શ્રીહરિની આજ્ઞાએ કાશી વિશ્વનાથની જાત્રાએ જઈએ છીએ.” મુખીએ આદરપૂર્વક કહ્યું: “અરે શેઠ! આવો, અમારી ગાડીમાં બેસી જાઓ! અમે પણ સંઘ લઈને કાશીની જાત્રાએ જ જઈએ છીએ!” મુખીએ ડોસા શેઠને ગાડીમાં બેસાડ્યા અને રસ્તામાં ઉત્તમ ભાથું જમાડી, મીઠું જળ પાઈ કોઈ પણ જાતની અગવડ વિના ખૂબ પ્રેમથી સાચવ્યા. સંઘ નિર્વિઘ્ને કાશી પહોંચ્યો. સહુએ ગંગાસ્નાન કર્યું, કાશી વિશ્વનાથ મહાકાલના દિવ્ય દર્શન કર્યા, બ્રાહ્મણોને દાન-દક્ષિણા આપી પાંચ દિવસ રોકાયા. પરત વળતી વખતે પણ એ જ મુખીએ ડોસા શેઠની તમામ ખાન-પાનની કાળજી રાખી. જ્યારે ગાડી બંધિયાથી એકાદ-બે ગાઉ છેટે પહોંચી, ત્યારે મુખીએ કહ્યું: “ડોસા ભગત! હવે તમારું ગામ નજીક છે, અમારો માર્ગ અહીંથી જુદો પડે છે, માટે આપ સુખેથી ઘેર પધારો!” ડોસા શેઠ ગાડીમાંથી ઊતરી થોડે દૂર ગયા. આભાર માનવા તેમણે પાછળ વળીને જોયું, ત્યાં તો નહોતી કોઈ ગાડી, નહોતા બળદો કે નહોતો કોઈ માણસ! સમગ્ર સંઘ પળવારમાં અદ્રશ્ય થઈ ગયો હતો! ડોસા શેઠના રૂંવાડાં ઊભાં થઈ ગયાં: ‘અહો! આ યાત્રા તો સાક્ષાત્ શ્રીજીમહારાજે પોતે સંઘપતિ બનીને મને સાથે રાખીને કરાવી!’
ડોસા શેઠ ઘરે પહોંચ્યા ત્યારે તેમની વૃદ્ધ માતાએ દોડીને ભેટી પડતાં કહ્યું: “બેટા! તું જાત્રાએ નીકળ્યો તે જ દિવસે ગામમાં બહારવટિયાઓની ભયાનક ધાડ પડી હતી! ખુલ્લી તલવારો સાથે લૂંટારાઓ આપણા ઘરમાં ધસી આવ્યા અને પૂછવા લાગ્યા કે ‘ડોસો શેઠ ક્યાં છે?’ મેં કહ્યું કે ‘ડોસો તો કાશીની જાત્રાએ ગયો છે!’ એટલે તેઓ કશું પણ નુકસાન કર્યા વિના પાછા વળી ગયા!” આ સાંભળી ડોસા શેઠ ગદ્ગદ કંઠે બોલ્યા: “માતાજી! શ્રીજીમહારાજે પોતાની આજ્ઞા પાળવાનું આવું અદ્ભુત ફળ આપ્યું! મને મફતમાં કાશીની યાત્રા કરાવી અને લૂંટારાઓની તલવારથી મારો જીવ પણ બચાવી લીધો!”

एक समय सर्वावतारी श्रीजी महाराज सौराष्ट्र के बंधिया गांव पधारे। रामानंद स्वामी के परम कृपापात्र मुळूभाई के दरबार में सभा चल रही थी। सभा में आज्ञाकारी भक्त डोसा शेठ ने आकर साष्टांग प्रणाम किया। श्रीहरि ने पूछा: “डोसा भगत! गुरुदेव रामानंद स्वामी ने आपको काशी यात्रा की आज्ञा दी थी, आप क्यों नहीं गए?” डोसा शेठ ने विनम्रता से कहा: “महाराज! वह मेरी भूल थी; यदि आपकी आज्ञा हो तो मैं अभी प्रस्थान करूं!” श्रीहरि ने हंसते हुए कहा: “तो इसी क्षण तुरंत निकल पड़िए!” डोसा शेठ ने पूछा: “महाराज! यात्रा के मार्ग व्यय का क्या होगा?” श्रीहरि बोले: “मार्ग में भोजन-जल की व्यवस्था प्रभु कर देंगे, आप निश्चिंत होकर प्रस्थान करें!”
डोसा शेठ बिना किसी धन अथवा पाथेय के केवल प्रभु का नाम लेकर चल पड़े। गांव से एक कोस दूर पहुंचे ही थे कि काशी जा रहा एक समृद्ध संघ मिला। संघ प्रमुख ने डोसा शेठ को अपनी गाड़ी में बैठा लिया और मार्ग में उत्तम मिष्ठान्न एवं भोजन कराते हुए काशी ले गया। काशी में गंगा स्नान और विश्वनाथ के दर्शन कर वे सकुशल लौटे। जब बंधिया से एक कोस की दूरी रही, तो संघ प्रमुख ने कहा: “भगतजी! आपका गांव आ गया है, अब आप अपने घर जाएं।” डोसा शेठ ने नीचे उतरकर जब कृतज्ञता ज्ञापन हेतु पीछे मुड़कर देखा, तो न कोई गाड़ी थी और न कोई व्यक्ति! पूरा संघ अदृश्य हो चुका था। डोसा शेठ समझ गए कि स्वयं श्रीजी महाराज ने यह लीला की थी।
घर पहुंचते ही उनकी माता ने बताया: “बेटा! जिस दिन तुम यात्रा पर गए, उसी दिन गांव में डाकुओं का भीषण धावा हुआ था! वे नंगी तलवारें लेकर हमारे घर में घुसे और तुम्हें खोजने लगे। जब मैंने कहा कि डोसा तो काशी चला गया है, तो वे बिना कोई हानि पहुंचाए लौट गए!” डोसा शेठ ने अश्रुपूरित नेत्रों से कहा: “मां! प्रभु की आज्ञा मानने से श्रीहरि ने मुझे निशुल्क काशी यात्रा भी कराई और डाकुओं के हाथों से मेरे प्राणों की रक्षा भी की!”

Doso Sheth of Bandhiya Journeys to Kashi, Shreehari’s Miraculous Escort, and Protection from Bandits
At one time, Supreme Bhagwan Shreeji Maharaj arrived in the village of Bandhiya in Saurashtra. An extensive spiritual assembly gathered on the elevated veranda of the Darbargadh belonging to Darbar Mulubhai, a cherished disciple of Sadguru Ramanand Swami. During the assembly, an obedient and devout merchant named Doso Sheth entered and offered humble prostrations at Shreehari’s lotus feet. Shreehari enquired: “Dosa Bhagat! Gurudev Ramanand Swami had once commanded you to undertake a pilgrimage to Kashi (Varanasi); why did you fail to go?” Filled with remorse, Doso Sheth submitted: “O Maharaj! That was indeed my grave negligence; if You command me now, I am prepared to depart this very instant!” Shreehari smiled brightly: “Then set out this very moment without an instant’s delay!” Doso Sheth enquired: “O Lord! What of my travel expenses, food, and water along the road?” Shreehari reassured him: “Everything necessary for your sustenance will be provided on the road; depart with complete faith in the Lord!”
Without carrying a single coin or travel bag, Doso Sheth bowed to Shreehari and set out on foot. Walking barely a mile past the outskirts of Bandhiya, he encountered a massive pilgrim caravan proceeding toward North India. The caravan master approached and asked: “Brother! Which community do you belong to and whither are you traveling?” Doso Sheth replied: “I am a merchant traveling to Kashi Vishwanath under the holy command of Bhagwan Swaminarayan.” The caravan master welcomed him warmly: “Come, Sheth! Board our cart; we too are bound for Kashi on pilgrimage!” The master seated Doso Sheth comfortably in his cart, provided him with wholesome meals and sweet water, and looked after his every need throughout the long journey. Arriving safely in Kashi, they bathed in the holy Ganga, had darshan of Kashi Vishwanath Mahakal, distributed charity to Brahmins, and rested for five days. On the return journey, the caravan took complete care of Doso Sheth. When they reached within a mile of Bandhiya, the leader halted: “Dosa Bhagat! Your home village is near; our road diverges here. You may now return safely to your family.” Doso Sheth stepped down from the cart. Turning around after a few paces to express his heartfelt gratitude, he was astonished to find neither carts, nor oxen, nor any persons—the entire caravan had dissolved into thin air! Goosebumps covered his body as he realized that Supreme Lord Shreeji Maharaj Himself had manifested as the caravan master to escort and protect him!
Reaching home, his aged mother rushed out and embraced him in tears: “Son! The very afternoon you departed, ruthless armed dacoits raided our village with bared swords! They stormed our courtyard demanding, ‘Where is Doso Sheth?’ When I replied that Doso had set out for the Kashi pilgrimage, they departed without causing any harm!” With tears of profound gratitude, Doso Sheth exclaimed: “Mother! Behold the miraculous fruit of obeying the Lord’s command! Shreeji Maharaj enabled me to complete the sacred Kashi pilgrimage free of all expense, and simultaneously saved my life from the swords of ruthless bandits!”
