Seven-Year-Old Pitambar Hides Shreehari’s Slippers in Sundariyana, and the Night Halt by the Village Lake
On one occasion, Supreme Bhagwan Shreehari arrived in the village of Sundariyana from Kariyani, accompanied by an extensive entourage of ascetics and Kathi chieftains. The local devotees accorded Him a grand musical reception and seated Him upon a cot beneath a shady neem tree within the Darbargadh of Dosa Khachar.
During the spiritual assembly, the seven-year-old son of Bhaga Sheth, named Pitambar, approached and offered humble prostrations at Shreehari’s lotus feet. Gazing upon the young boy with divine affection, Shreehari placed His blessing hand upon his head and prophesied: “This child Pitambar possesses an exceptionally pure and unblemished mind; he will grow into an illustrious devotee within your lineage and be counted among the foremost souls in Satsang!” “Bhaga Sheth-no sut Pitambar, jeni saat varas-ni umar..! Tene keedha aavine pranaam, joi boliya Sundarshyam…! Man nirmal chhe ati aanoo, nen-maan jhalke nathi chhaanoo..! Satsangi ghano saaro thaashe, ghana jan maahi mukhya ganaashe..!”
Later, Shreehari proceeded to the home of Vanasha Sheth to partake of the consecrated thal. Before stepping inside the inner chamber, Shreehari removed His ornate embroidered slippers (mojadis) by the edge of the veranda. Seven-year-old Pitambar thought with innocent childhood concern: ‘What if someone walks away with Maharaj’s exquisite slippers?’ Driven by protective love, he picked up both slippers and tucked them securely inside his loose cotton tunic (angarkhu)! Having dined, Shreehari stepped out onto the veranda and looked around for His footwear. Finding them missing, He glanced in every direction. At that moment, little Pitambar stepped forward with a mischievous giggle, pulled the slippers from his tunic, and placed them reverently at Shreehari’s lotus feet! Delighted by the child’s endearing devotion, the Lord burst into joyful laughter and placed His hand upon his head with immense pleasure: “Pachhi mojadiyo te upaadi, nij angarkha-maan santaadi..! Jami uthiya Jeevan jyaare, laagya mojadi shodhva tyaare…! Tyaare Pitambare kari haas, muki mojadi Shreehari paas..! Joi raaji thaya Muninaath, mukyo tehne mastake haath…!”
In the evening, a grand assembly convened on the banks of the scenic village lake. The devotees remained enraptured by Shreehari’s divine discourses late into the night. Because a gentle, fragrant breeze was blowing across the water, Shreehari remarked: “Tonight We shall sleep out here in the open air along the lake’s embankment!” Shreehari rested by the water while attendants kept night-long vigil. The next morning, after performing morning rituals, the affectionate Lord set out toward Venjalka to the home of Bhim Pandya, while the loving villagers accompanied Him for a mile to bid Him farewell.
