આલા ખુમાણે વિધવા ફોઈને પણ દૂરથી પ્રણામ કરવાનું કહી બ્રહ્મચર્યની ટેક જાળવી, અને બગસરા મંદિરની જમીન માટે સગા ભાઈનું પાણી હરામ કરી સત્સંગનો શૂરવીર પક્ષ રાખ્યો.
સદ્ગુરુ મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીની આજ્ઞાથી સદ્ગુરુ યોગાનંદ સ્વામીએ ગોહિલવાડ અને કાઠીયાવાડના પંથકોમાં વિષમ પરિસ્થિતિઓ વચ્ચે વિચરણ કરીને ગામેગામ સત્સંગની દિવ્ય જ્યોત પ્રગટાવી હતી.
વિચરણ કરતાં કરતાં યોગાનંદ સ્વામી સાવરકુંડલા પધાર્યા. ત્યાંના ગામધણી દરબાર આલા ખુમાણ પૂર્વજન્મના સંસ્કારી મુમુક્ષુ હતા. સ્વામીની અમૃતવાણી સાંભળતાં જ તેમનું અંતર સત્સંગના રંગે રંગાઈ ગયું. તેમણે કંઠી અને પંચવર્તમાન ધારણ કરી શ્રીહરિનો પૂર્ણ આશરો લીધો. તેઓ જનક વિદેહીની પેઠે સંસારના તમામ વ્યવહારો નિભાવતાં છતાં અંતરથી સદા નિર્લેપ રહેતા અને મોટાભાગનો સમય મંદિરે રહી અખંડ ભજનપરાયણ વિતાવતા.
એક સમયે ચાતુર્માસ દરમિયાન આલા ખુમાણે સદ્ગુરુ યોગાનંદ સ્વામી સમક્ષ વિશેષ કઠિન નિયમ અંગીકાર કર્યો કે: “જો અજાણતાં પણ કોઈ પરસ્ત્રી કે વિધવા સ્ત્રીનો સ્પર્શ થઈ જાય, તો તત્ક્ષણ સવસ્ત્ર સ્નાન કરવું અને તે દિવસે નિર્જળા ઉપવાસ કરવો!”
એવામાં એક દિવસે આલા ખુમાણના વિધવા ફોઈ તેમને મળવા સાવરકુંડલા પધાર્યા. દરબારને ખબર મોકલતાં તેઓ મંદિરેથી ઘેર આવ્યા. ફળિયામાં આવતા ભત્રીજાને જોઈ હરખઘેલાં બનેલાં ફોઈ સ્નેહથી મીઠડાં લેવા બંને હાથ લંબાવી નજીક દોડ્યાં! તે જ ક્ષણે આલા ખુમાણે બે ડગલાં પાછા હટી બંને હાથ જોડી વિનમ્રતાથી કહ્યું: “ફોઈબા! આપ ત્યાંથી જ મને ‘જય સ્વામિનારાયણ’ કહો; કારણ કે મેં મારા ગુરુદેવ સમક્ષ નિયમ લીધો છે કે પરસ્ત્રી કે વિધવા સ્ત્રીનો સ્પર્શ કરવો નહીં!” પોતાના વિધવા હોવાની ટકોર સાંભળી ફોઈ ક્રોધે ભરાયાં: “તારા નિયમ ખાતર શું હું આ સાઠ વર્ષની ઉંમરે બીજો ધણી કરવા જાઉં?” એમ કહી રિસાઈને ચાલ્યાં ગયાં, પરંતુ વચનટેકી આલા ખુમાણ પોતાના નિયમમાંથી તસુભાર પણ ડગ્યા નહીં!
જ્યારે સદ્ગુરુ ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી બગસરામાં ભવ્ય મંદિરનું નિર્માણ કરાવી રહ્યા હતા, ત્યારે મંદિરની જમીનને અડીને દરબાર હરસુરબાપુની જમીન હતી, જે હરસુરબાપુ આપવા તૈયાર નહોતા. હરસુરબાપુ આલા ખુમાણના સગા માસિયાઈ ભાઈ થતા હતા, તેથી સૌએ આલા ખુમાણને મધ્યસ્થી કરવા વિનંતી કરી. આલા ખુમાણ બગસરા ગયા અને ભાઈને ખૂબ સમજાવ્યા, પરંતુ હરસુરબાપુ ટસના મસ ન થયા! સત્સંગ અને મંદિરના અપ્રતિમ પક્ષને કારણે આલા ખુમાણે પોતાના સગા ભાઈનું અન્ન-જળ ત્યાગીને ‘બગસરાનું પાણી હરામ’ કર્યું!
આલા ખુમાણના આવા શૂરવીર પક્ષની જાણ થતાં સદ્ગુરુ ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી સ્વયં બગસરા પધાર્યા. ચોપાટ રમતા હરસુરબાપુ પાસે જઈ સ્વામીએ દિવ્ય દૃષ્ટિ કરી વાત કરી: “દરબાર! અમને મંદિર માટે જગ્યા જોઈએ છે.” સ્વામીના દિવ્ય પ્રભાવથી હરસુરબાપુનું હૃદય પીગળી ગયું: “સ્વામી! આપ કહો તો મારો આખો દરબારગઢ અર્પણ કરી દઉં!” સ્વામીએ સાવરકુંડલાથી આલા ખુમાણને તેડાવ્યા, બંને ભાઈઓ વચ્ચે સમાધાન કરાવ્યું, મંદિરની જમીન સંપાદિત થઈ અને આલા ખુમાણે પોતાની પ્રતિજ્ઞા પૂર્ણ કરી.
અંતકાળે જ્યારે આલા ખુમાણે દેહત્યાગ કર્યો, ત્યારે તેમના ભાઈ દાનાભાઈ અને અન્ય હરિભક્તોને સાક્ષાત્ શ્રીજીમહારાજે દિવ્ય દર્શન આપીને કહ્યું: “આજે અમે અમારા પરમ એકાંતિક ભક્ત આલા ખુમાણને તેડવા માટે અક્ષરધામમાંથી પધાર્યા છીએ!” અને આલા ખુમાણને દિવ્ય વિમાનમાં બેસાડી અક્ષરધામના શાશ્વત સુખમાં તેડી ગયા.

सद्गुरु मुक्तानंद स्वामी की आज्ञा से सद्गुरु योगानंद स्वामी ने गोहिलवाड़ क्षेत्र के गांवों में विषम परिस्थितियों में विचरण कर घर-घर सत्संग की पावन ज्योति प्रज्वलित की थी।
विचरण करते हुए योगानंद स्वामी सावरकुंडला पधारे। वहां के शासक दरबार आला खुमाण पूर्वजन्म के संस्कारी मुमुक्षु थे। स्वामी के वचनों से उनका अंतःकरण सत्संग से आलोकित हो गया। उन्होंने पंचवर्तमान धारण कर श्रीहरि का अनन्य आश्रय ग्रहण किया। वे जनक विदेही की भांति संसार में रहते हुए भी पूर्णतया निर्लेप रहते और अधिकांश समय मंदिर में भजन-कीर्तन में व्यतीत करते थे।
एक बार चातुर्मास में आला खुमाण ने गुरुदेव योगानंद स्वामी से विशेष नियम लिया: “यदि भूलवश भी किसी परस्त्री या विधवा स्त्री का स्पर्श हो जाए, तो तुरंत वस्त्रसहित स्नान करना और उस दिन उपवास रखना!”
उसी समय उनकी विधवा बुआ उनसे मिलने सावरकुंडला आईं। भतीजे को घर आते देख बुआ वात्सल्य से गले लगाने हेतु दोनों हाथ बढ़ाकर आगे बढ़ीं। उसी क्षण आला खुमाण ने दो कदम पीछे हटकर हाथ जोड़ लिए: “बुआजी! आप दूर से ही ‘जय स्वामीनारायण’ कहें; क्योंकि मैंने गुरुदेव से नियम लिया है कि किसी परस्त्री या विधवा स्त्री का स्पर्श नहीं करना!” यह सुनकर बुआ रुष्ट होकर बोलीं: “तेरे नियम के लिए क्या मैं साठ वर्ष की आयु में पुनर्विवाह करूं?” और क्रोध में लौट गईं, किंतु दृढ़निश्चयी आला खुमाण अपने नियम से तनिक भी विचलित न हुए!
जब सद्गुरु गुणातीतानंद स्वामी बगसरा में मंदिर निर्माण करा रहे थे, तब मंदिर के समीप की भूमि आला खुमाण के मौसेरे भाई दरबार हरसूरबापू की थी, जो वे देने को तैयार न थे। आला खुमाण ने भाई को बहुत समझाया, किंतु हरसूरबापू नहीं माने। मंदिर और सत्संग के अनन्य पक्ष के कारण आला खुमाण ने अपने सगे भाई का अन्न-जल त्यागकर बगसरा का पानी पीना वर्जित कर दिया!
यह जानकर सद्गुरु गुणातीतानंद स्वामी स्वयं बगसरा पधारे। चौपड़ खेलते हरसूरबापू पर स्वामी ने दृष्टि डाली, जिससे उनका हृदय परिवर्तित हो गया: “स्वामी! आप कहें तो मैं पूरा दरबारगढ़ समर्पित कर दूं!” स्वामी ने सावरकुंडला से आला खुमाण को बुलाया, दोनों भाइयों का मिलाप कराया, मंदिर की भूमि प्राप्त हुई और आला खुमाण का व्रत पूर्ण हुआ।
अंत समय में जब आला खुमाण ने देहत्याग किया, तब उनके भाई दानाभाई तथा अन्य भक्तों को श्रीजी महाराज ने साक्षात दर्शन देकर कहा: “आज हम अपने अनन्य भक्त आला खुमाण को अक्षरधाम ले जाने पधारे हैं!” और उन्हें सदेह दिव्य धाम ले गए।

Darbar Aala Khuman of Savarkundla, His Resolute Vow of Purity, Gunatitanand Swami’s Mandir Cause, and Ascent to Akshardham
Under the divine guidance of Sadguru Muktanand Swami, Sadguru Yoganand Swami toured the villages of Gohilwad amidst challenging circumstances, igniting the lamp of devotion in every household.
During his spiritual itinerancy, Yoganand Swami arrived in Savarkundla. The local ruler, Darbar Aala Khuman, was an elevated soul possessing noble impressions from past lives. Hearing Swami’s nectarine discourses, his heart was completely captivated by Satsang. He received initiation, embraced the moral vows (panchavartman), and completely surrendered unto Shreehari. Resembling King Janak, he conducted his administrative duties with detached tranquility, spending almost all his spare hours in unceasing prayer at the mandir.
During one holy Chaturmas, Aala Khuman undertook an exacting vow before Sadguru Yoganand Swami: “Should I ever inadvertently physically touch another woman or a widow, I shall immediately bathe with all clothes on and observe a complete day-long fast!”
One day, his widowed paternal aunt (foiba) arrived in Savarkundla to visit him. Overjoyed upon seeing her nephew enter the courtyard, she rushed forward with outstretched arms to embrace him with motherly affection. Instantly, Aala Khuman stepped back two paces, folded his hands, and submitted respectfully: “Foiba! Please bestow your ‘Jai Swaminarayan’ blessings from right there; for I have pledged a sacred vow before my spiritual preceptor never to physically touch another woman or a widow!” Feeling slighted by the reminder of her widowhood, the aunt retorted angrily: “Must I remarry at the age of sixty just to accommodate your vow?” and departed in indignation; nevertheless, the steadfast Aala Khuman remained entirely unshakeable in his spiritual resolve!
Later, when Sadguru Gunatitanand Swami was constructing the grand temple in Bagasara, land adjacent to the temple belonged to Darbar Harsurbapu, who adamantly refused to part with it. Since Harsurbapu was Aala Khuman’s maternal cousin, devotees requested Aala Khuman to intervene. Aala Khuman traveled to Bagasara and reasoned extensively with his brother, but Harsurbapu remained stubborn. Because of his fierce spiritual loyalty to the cause of the temple and Satsang, Aala Khuman renounced his brother’s hospitality on the spot, declaring that he would not drink even a drop of water in Bagasara!
Learning of Aala Khuman’s heroic stance, Sadguru Gunatitanand Swami personally arrived in Bagasara. Approaching Harsurbapu as he played chopat, Swami cast his divine, sanctifying glance upon him and said, “Darbar! We require that plot of land for the temple.” Under the divine spiritual influence of Swami, Harsurbapu’s stubbornness dissolved instantly: “Swami! If you command, I will surrender my entire royal fortress!” Swami summoned Aala Khuman from Savarkundla, amicably reconciled the two brothers, acquired the sacred temple land, and released Aala Khuman from his strict boycott.
At the time of his passing, Shreeji Maharaj visibly appeared to Aala Khuman’s brother Danabhai and surrounding devotees, proclaiming: “Today We have personally descended from Akshardham to escort Our beloved devotee Aala Khuman to Our eternal abode!” and welcomed him into transcendental bliss.
