ખુશાલ ભટ્ટના પ્રતાપે અંબાશંકરે સમાધિમાં વિષ્ણુલોક જઈ પિતા પાસેથી પૂજાનો ડાબલો મેળવ્યો, અને ગાયના આંચળમાંથી દૂધ વહેતાં દાટેલું ધન પામી શિવમંદિર બંધાવ્યું.
ઈડર નગરમાં અંબાશંકર નામે એક પરમ ધર્મનિષ્ઠ અને સદાચારી ગૃહસ્થ ઔદીચ્ય બ્રાહ્મણ રહેતા હતા. એક રાત્રે તેમના ઘરમાં ચોરોએ ખાતર પાડ્યું અને રોકડ રૂપિયા, સોનાના અલંકારો તેમજ કુળપરંપરાથી પૂજાતા પંચાયતન દેવ સહિત શ્રીવિષ્ણુ ભગવાનની મૂર્તિઓ ધરાવતો રૂપાનો પવિત્ર ડાબલો પણ ચોરી ગયા! રાજના સિપાહીઓએ ઘણી તપાસ કરી છતાં કોઈ પત્તો ન લાગ્યો. ઇષ્ટદેવની મૂર્તિઓ ચોરાઈ જતાં અંબાશંકરને પારાવાર આઘાત લાગ્યો. તેમણે સંકલ્પ કર્યો કે જ્યાં સુધી દેવની પૂજા ન થાય ત્યાં સુધી અન્ન-જળ ગ્રહણ કરવું નહીં; આમ સતત ચાર દિવસ સુધી ઉપવાસ ચાલ્યો.
એ સમયે ઈડરમાં તેજસ્વી ખુશાલ ભટ્ટ (જેઓ પાછળથી સદ્ગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી તરીકે પ્રસિદ્ધ થયા) બિરાજમાન હતા. અંબાશંકરે ખુશાલ ભટ્ટને દિવ્ય સામર્થ્યવાન જાણી પોતાના દુઃખની વાત કરી: “મહારાજ! ધન ગયું તેનો શોક નથી, પણ મારા પંચાયતન દેવ ચોરાઈ જતાં ચાર દિવસથી પૂજા વિના ઉપવાસ છે; કૃપા કરી મારા દેવ મેળવી આપો!”
ખુશાલ ભટ્ટે કરુણાપૂર્વક અંબાશંકરના મસ્તક પર હાથ મૂકી તત્ક્ષણ દિવ્ય સમાધિ કરાવી દીધી! સમાધિમાં અંબાશંકરે જોયું કે પોતે દિવ્ય વૈકુંઠ-વિષ્ણુલોકમાં પહોંચી ગયા છે. ત્યાં તેમના દિવ્યરૂપધારી સ્વર્ગસ્થ પિતાશ્રી સાક્ષાત્ વિષ્ણુ ભગવાન સમક્ષ બેસીને અંબાશંકરના ચોરાયેલા પંચાયતન દેવની ભાવપૂર્વક પૂજા કરી રહ્યા હતા!
અંબાશંકરને જોઈ પિતાશ્રીએ રહસ્ય ખોલ્યું: “પુત્ર! હું જીવ્યો ત્યાં સુધી નાસ્તિકોના સંગથી અધર્મી રહ્યો હતો અને દેવની મૂર્તિઓને પાષાણ માની ખૂણે મૂકી રાખતો હતો. તેથી મૃત્યુ પછી મને યમપુરીની ઘોર યાતનાઓ ભોગવવી પડી! પરંતુ યમરાજાએ મને જણાવ્યું કે તારા પુત્ર અંબાશંકરે બાળપણમાં સાક્ષાત્ ઉદ્ધવાવતાર સદ્ગુરુ રામાનંદ સ્વામીના અમદાવાદમાં દર્શન કર્યા છે અને બે ઘડી સત્સંગ સાંભળ્યો છે, એ પવિત્ર પુત્રના પુણ્યપ્રભાવથી મારો નરકમાંથી ઉદ્ધાર થયો અને હું ઇન્દ્રલોક પામ્યો. ત્યારબાદ ઈડરના રાજા પાસે બ્રાહ્મણોનો વેરો બંધ કરાવવા આવેલા તેજસ્વી ખુશાલ ભટ્ટનો મહિમા મેં જાણ્યો, તે પુણ્યપ્રતાપે મને શ્રીવિષ્ણુલોકની પ્રાપ્તિ થઈ છે! તારી પૂજાની ટેક જોઈ ભગવાન શ્રીવિષ્ણુની આજ્ઞાથી હું આ ચાર દિવસથી નિત્ય તારા દેવની પૂજા કરી રહ્યો હતો!”
એમ કહી પિતાશ્રીએ પંચાયતન દેવનો રૂપાનો ડાબલો અંબાશંકરના હાથમાં સોંપ્યો. અંબાશંકર સમાધિમાંથી જાગ્યા ત્યારે સાચે જ એ ચાંદીનો ડાબલો તેમના હાથમાં હાજરાહજૂર હતો! આ પરચો જોઈ સૌ સ્તબ્ધ થઈ ગયા.
ત્યારબાદ ખુશાલ ભટ્ટે પોતાના વાડામાંથી પોતાની ગાય છોડી અને આજ્ઞા કરી: “અંબાશંકર! બે બ્રાહ્મણો સાથે આ ગાયની પાછળ જાઓ. જ્યાં ગાય ઊભી રહી પોતાના ચારેય આંચળમાંથી દૂધની ધારા વહાવે, ત્યાં જમીન ખોદજો. ત્યાંથી પ્રાચીન શિવલિંગ (બાણ) નીકળશે, તેની પાસે ચોરે દાટેલું તમારું ધન મળશે અને શિવલિંગ નીચેથી સોનામહોરો પ્રાપ્ત થશે. એ ધનથી ત્યાં શિવાલય બંધાવજો અને બાકીનું ધર્મકાર્યમાં વાપરજો!”
ગાય એક બાવળના વૃક્ષ નીચે ઊભી રહી અને ચારેય આંચળમાંથી દૂધ વરસવા લાગ્યું! ત્યાં ખોદકામ કરતાં તમામ ચોરાયેલું ધન, સોનામહોરો અને દિવ્ય શિવલિંગ મળી આવ્યા. અંબાશંકરે ત્યાં ભવ્ય શિવમંદિર બંધાવ્યું અને સદાચારપૂર્વક અન્નક્ષેત્ર ચલાવ્યું.
પુનર્જન્મમાં આ જ અંબાશંકર પ્રાંતિજ પાસે પામોલ ગામે ગૌરીશંકર નામે બ્રાહ્મણકુળમાં જન્મ્યા. બાળપણમાં શ્રીહરિના દર્શન પામી યુવાવસ્થામાં ત્યાગી બની ‘જ્ઞાનપ્રકાશાનંદ બ્રહ્મચારી’ નામ પામ્યા. બુરહાનપુર સ્વામિનારાયણ મંદિરમાં લક્ષ્મીનારાયણ દેવની દીર્ઘકાળ સેવા કરી અંતે અક્ષરધામના પરમ ધામને પામ્યા.

ઈડર મેં અંબાશંકર બ્રાહ્મણ કી ચોરી, ખુશાલ ભટ્ટ કી સમાધિ ઔર વિષ્ણુલોક સે દેવપ્રાપ્તિ
ईडर नगर में अंबाशंकर नामक एक धर्मनिष्ठ और सदाचारी औदीच्य ब्राह्मण रहते थे। एक रात्रि उनके घर में चोरों ने सेंध लगाई और नकद रुपये, स्वर्ण आभूषण तथा कुलपरंपरा से पूजित पंचायतन देव सहित श्रीविष्णु की प्रतिमाओं वाली चांदी की दिव्य डिबिया भी चुरा ले गए! सिपाहियों ने बहुत खोजबीन की किंतु कोई सुराग न मिला। देव-प्रतिमाओं के चोरी होने से अंबाशंकर को गहरा आघात लगा। उन्होंने संकल्प किया कि जब तक देव की पुनः पूजा नहीं होगी, तब तक अन्न-जल ग्रहण नहीं करेंगे; इस प्रकार चार दिनों तक उनका उपवास चलता रहा।
उस समय ईडर में परम तेजस्वी खुशाल भट्ट (जो आगे चलकर सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी कहलाए) पधारे हुए थे। अंबाशंकर ने खुशाल भट्ट को सामर्थ्यवान महापुरुष जानकर अपनी व्यथा सुनाई: “महाराज! धन की हानि का दुख नहीं, किंतु पंचायतन देव चले जाने से चार दिन से बिना पूजा उपवास है; कृपा कर मेरे देव दिलवाइए!”
खुशाल भट्ट ने दयापूर्वक अंबाशंकर के सिर पर हाथ रखा और उसी क्षण उन्हें दिव्य समाधि करा दी! समाधि में अंबाशंकर ने देखा कि वे वैकुंठ-विष्णुलोक पहुंच गए हैं। वहां उनके दिवंगत पिताश्री साक्षात भगवान श्रीविष्णु के सम्मुख बैठकर अंबाशंकर की चुराई गई पंचायतन देव की डिबिया खोलकर पूजा कर रहे थे!
अंबाशंकर को देखकर पिताश्री ने रहस्य प्रकट किया: “पुत्र! मैं जीवनभर नास्तिकों की संगति में रहकर धर्मभ्रष्ट रहा और देव प्रतिमाओं को पत्थर मानकर कोने में उपेक्षित रखता था। अतः मृत्यु के बाद मुझे यमपुरी के भयंकर कष्ट भोगने पड़े! किंतु धर्मराज ने मुझे बताया कि तुम्हारे पुत्र अंबाशंकर ने बाल्यावस्था में अहमदाबाद में उद्धावावतार सद्गुरु रामानंद स्वामी के दर्शन कर दो घड़ी सत्संग सुना है; उस धर्मात्मा पुत्र के पुण्य से मेरा नरक से उद्धार हुआ और मैं स्वर्ग गया। तत्पश्चात ईडर नरेश से ब्राह्मणों का कर बंद कराने आए तेजस्वी खुशाल भट्ट के प्रभाव को मैंने पहचाना, उस पुण्य से मुझे विष्णुलोक प्राप्त हुआ! तुम्हारी अनन्य देवभक्ति देखकर श्रीविष्णु की आज्ञा से मैं चार दिनों से तुम्हारे इन देवों की पूजा कर रहा था!”
ऐसा कहकर पिताश्री ने चांदी की डिबिया अंबाशंकर के हाथ में सौंप दी। अंबाशंकर जब समाधि से जागे, तो वह चांदी की डिबिया वास्तव में उनके हाथ में उपस्थित थी! यह चमत्कार देखकर सभी अचंभित रह गए।
तत्पश्चात खुशाल भट्ट ने अपनी गाय को बाड़े से खोला और कहा: “अंबाशंकर! दो विप्रों सहित इस गाय के पीछे जाओ। जहां यह गाय रुककर अपने चारों थनों से दूध की धारा प्रवाहित करे, वहां भूमि खोदना। वहां प्राचीन शिवलिंग मिलेगा, उसके पास चोरों द्वारा दबाया गया तुम्हारा धन निकलेगा और शिवलिंग के नीचे स्वर्ण मुद्राएं मिलेंगी। उस धन से वहां शिवालय बनवाना और शेष धन धर्मकार्य में लगाना!”
गाय एक बबूल के वृक्ष के नीचे खड़ी हुई और उसके थनों से दूध की धारा बह निकली! वहां खुदाई करने पर शिवलिंग, समस्त चोरी हुआ धन और स्वर्ण मुद्राएं प्राप्त हुईं। अंबाशंकर ने वहां भव्य शिव मंदिर बनवाया और सदावर्त अन्नक्षेत्र चलाया।
पुनर्जन्म में यही अंबाशंकर पांतोल (पामोल) गांव में गौरीशंकर नामक ब्राह्मण बालक के रूप में जन्मे। बाल्यावस्था में श्रीहरि के दर्शन पाए और युवावस्था में वैरागी बनकर ‘ज्ञानप्रकाशानंद ब्रह्मचारी’ कहलाए। बुरहानपुर मंदिर में लक्ष्मीनारायण देव की दीर्घकाल सेवा कर अंत में अक्षरधाम के अधिकारी बने।

The Theft at Brahmin Ambashankar’s Home in Idar, Khushal Bhatt’s Samadhi, and Recovery of Deities from Vishnuloka
In the historic city of Idar resided Ambashankar, an exceptionally pious and righteous Audichya Brahmin. One night, burglars broke into his house, stealing cash, gold ornaments, and a cherished silver casket enshrining his ancestral Panchayatana deities along with Lord Vishnu. Despite vigorous investigations by state guards, no trace was found. The loss of his sacred deities devastated Ambashankar’s heart. He vowed not to consume food or water until the sacred worship of his deities could be resumed, fasting continuously for four days.
At that time, the spiritually formidable Khushal Bhatt (who later became Sadguru Gopalanand Swami) was present in Idar. Recognizing Khushal Bhatt’s divine potency, Ambashankar poured out his grief: “Maharaj! The loss of material wealth matters not, but the theft of my ancestral deities has left me fasting for four days; kindly grant me the recovery of my sacred deities!”
Moved by compassion, Khushal Bhatt placed his blessing hand upon Ambashankar’s head and instantly plunged him into a profound divine samadhi! In that transcendental vision, Ambashankar found himself elevated to the celestial realm of Vishnuloka. There, he beheld his deceased father seated directly before Lord Vishnu, lovingly conducting daily worship of Ambashankar’s stolen silver casket and Panchayatana deities!
Beholding his son, the father revealed the divine mystery: “My son! In earthly life, I fell into bad company with atheists, disregarded dharma, and neglected these deities in a dark corner as mere stone. Consequently, after death I was cast into the terrifying torments of Yamapuri! However, Dharmaraja informed me that because my pious son Ambashankar had the holy darshan of Uddhava’s incarnation Sadguru Ramanand Swami in Ahmedabad and absorbed spiritual discourses for just two ghadis, I was delivered from hell to heaven! Subsequently, when the divine youth Khushal Bhatt visited Idar to have the Brahmin tax abolished by the King, I revered his exalted glory; by that virtue, I attained the supreme abode of Vishnuloka! Observing your steadfast devotion, by Lord Vishnu’s divine command, I have been performing the sacred daily worship of your deities for these past four days!”
With these words, the father placed the silver casket directly into Ambashankar’s hands. When Ambashankar awakened from samadhi, the silver casket containing his deities was physically present in his hands! The assembled citizens were spellbound by this supernatural event.
Khushal Bhatt then released his cow from the pen and commanded: “Ambashankar! Follow this cow along with two Brahmins. Wherever she halts and spontaneous streams of milk pour from all four of her udders, dig into the earth. There you shall unearth an ancient Shiva lingam; beside it lies your stolen wealth buried by the thieves, and beneath the lingam lie buried gold mohurs. Use that wealth to construct a Shiva temple at that spot, and dedicate the remainder to righteous charity!”
The cow walked forward and halted beneath an acacia (baval) tree, releasing streams of milk from all four udders! Digging at the spot, they recovered the sacred Shiva lingam, the stolen jewelry, and the hidden gold coins. Ambashankar built a Shiva temple at the sanctified location and established an open charitable dining hall (annakshetra).
In his subsequent birth, Ambashankar was born as Gaurishankar in Pamol near Prantij. Blessed with Shreehari’s darshan in childhood, he embraced monastic vows in youth as Gyanprakashanand Brahmachari, faithfully served Shree Laxminarayan Dev in the Burhanpur temple for many years, and ultimately ascended to the eternal bliss of Akshardham.
