સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવે મૂર્તિમાંથી સાક્ષાત્ પ્રગટ થઈ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીને વરતાલ લઈ જવા પ્રાર્થના કરી; શ્રીહરિએ વડતાલમાં પોતાના સાન્નિધ્યે સૂર્યદેવની પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરી.
વડોદરા શહેરમાં ખારી વાવ વિસ્તારમાં સુરૈયા લુહાર આદિ દસ-બાર પરમ સત્સંગી હરિભક્તો રહેતા હતા. તેમણે અત્યંત સ્નેહથી સદ્ગુરુ શ્રી ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીને પંદર-વીસ સંતોના મંડળ સહિત પોતાના ઘેર પધરામણી કરવા અને પૂજનનો લાભ આપવા નિમંત્રણ આપ્યું. સ્વામી સંતો સાથે પધાર્યા. ભક્તોએ ભાવપૂર્વક સ્વામીનું પૂજન-અર્ચન કરી સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કર્યા.
ત્યારબાદ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી ત્યાંથી ઊઠીને ખારી વાવ પાસે આવેલા એક પ્રાચીન શિખરબદ્ધ મંદિરમાં પધાર્યા. તે ભવ્ય મંદિર જોઈ સ્વામીએ હરિભક્તોને પૂછ્યું: “આ મંદિરમાં કયા દેવની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવી છે?” ભક્તોએ જણાવ્યું: “સ્વામી! આ શ્રી સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવનું પવિત્ર મંદિર છે.” સ્વામી બોલ્યા: “સૂર્યનારાયણ તો આપણા પરમ પૂજ્ય દેવ છે, ચાલો દર્શન કરીએ!” સ્વામીએ મંદિરમાં પ્રવેશ કરી પૂજારીને મળી શ્રી સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવ સમક્ષ સ્વાદિષ્ટ બરફીનો થાળ નૈવેદ્યરૂપે ધર્યો.
સદ્ગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીએ સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવની મૂર્તિ પાસે ઊભા રહીને પ્રશ્ન કર્યો: “હે સવિતા દેવ! આપ અહીં પ્રસન્ન છો ને? આ મોટા સુશોભિત મંદિરમાં આપની પૂજા-સેવા યોગ્ય રીતે અનુકૂળ થાય છે કે નહીં?”
ત્યારે સૌના આશ્ચર્ય વચ્ચે સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવની મૂર્તિમાંથી દિવ્ય વાણી પ્રગટ થઈ: “હે સ્વામી! આપ અહીં પધાર્યા તેથી હું અત્યંત પ્રસન્ન થયો છું. આ બ્રાહ્મણ પૂજારી ભક્તિભાવથી સેવા તો કરે છે, પરંતુ યથાર્થ ધર્મ અને શૌચનું પાલન કરતો નથી. ગાળ્યા વિનાના અશુદ્ધ જળ અને દૂધથી રસોઈ બનાવીને થાળ ધરે છે, તેથી હું એ નૈવેદ્ય સ્વીકારતો નથી! વળી હે સ્વામી! અત્યારે સાક્ષાત્ પૂર્ણ પુરુષોત્તમ નારાયણ ભગવાન શ્રીસ્વામિનારાયણ પૃથ્વી પર અવતરીને અગણિત જીવોના મોક્ષ કરી રહ્યા છે અને એકાંતિક ભક્તોને દિવ્ય સુખ આપે છે. હું પણ એ જ મહાપ્રભુનો એકાંતિક ભક્ત છું અને મારું આ સમસ્ત તેજ તથા ઐશ્વર્ય એમના જ પ્રતાપે છે! માટે મારી તીવ્ર અભિલાષા છે કે હું પણ એ સર્વોપરી પ્રભુના ચરણોની સમીપે રહી એમની અખંડ સેવા કરું!”
આ સાંભળી ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીએ વચન આપ્યું: “જો આપની એવી અંતરની ઇચ્છા હોય, તો ચાર દિવસ પછી જ્યારે અમે વડતાલ જઈશું ત્યારે આપને સાથે લઈ જઈશું. વડતાલ ધામમાં લક્ષ્મીનારાયણ દેવની પ્રતિષ્ઠા થઈ છે, એમની સમીપમાં આપની મૂર્તિની સ્થાપના કરીશું.” આ સાંભળી સૂર્યદેવ અત્યંત રાજી થયા અને બોલ્યા: “સ્વામી! આપ તો સાક્ષાત્ ભગવાનના અક્ષરધામનું મૂર્તિમંત સ્વરૂપ છો!”
ચાર દિવસ બાદ સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવ એક તેજોમય બ્રાહ્મણનું રૂપ ધારણ કરી ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી સાથે વડતાલ પધાર્યા. તે સમયે ગઢપુરમાં બિરાજમાન શ્રીજીમહારાજે વડતાલથી આવેલા જોબન પગી, સુંદર પગી વગેરે કાઠી હરિભક્તોને કહ્યું: “વડતાલમાં તમારા કુળદેવ સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવની પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરવી છે.” કાઠી દરબારોએ કહ્યું: “મહારાજ! આપ સૂર્યદેવને પધરાવો તો અમે અતિ રાજી છીએ, પરંતુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી હાલ વડોદરા છે; તેમને પૂછીને નિર્ણય કરીએ.”
શ્રીજીમહારાજે હસીને પરમ રહસ્ય ખોલ્યું: “ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી અમારાથી ક્યારેય જુદા નથી! તેઓ નિરંતર અમારી સાથે જ છે. વડોદરા હોય કે અનંત બ્રહ્માંડમાં હોય, જ્યાં અમે ત્યાં તેઓ અને જ્યાં તેઓ ત્યાં અમે! એમનું હૃદય અમે છીએ અને અમારું હૃદય તેઓ છે. માટે જે ક્ષણે અમે સંકલ્પ કર્યો, તે જ ક્ષણે સ્વામી સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવને સાથે લઈને વડતાલ પહોંચી ગયા છે અને હાલ આપણી રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા છે!”
બીજે દિવસે શ્રીજીમહારાજ વડતાલ પધાર્યા અને સપ્તમુખી અશ્વોના રથમાં શાસ્ત્રોક્ત વિધિપૂર્વક શ્રી સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવની પોતાના સાન્નિધ્યમાં સ્થાપના કરી. વિપ્રરૂપ સૂર્યદેવે એ પવિત્ર મૂર્તિમાં પ્રવેશ કર્યો. જેમ સચ્ચિદાનંદ સ્વામીના સંગાથે શ્રી રણછોડરાયજી દ્વારિકાથી વડતાલ પધાર્યા હતા, તેમ સદ્ગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીની કૃપાથી સૂર્યનારાયણ દેવ વડોદરાથી વડતાલ પધાર્યા.

वडोदरा शहर में खारी वाव क्षेत्र में सुरैया लुहार आदि दस-बारह निष्ठावान सत्संगी हरिभक्त रहते थे। उन्होंने अत्यधिक प्रेम से सद्गुरु श्री गोपालानंद स्वामी को पंद्रह-बीस संतों के मंडल सहित अपने घर पधरामणी और पूजन का लाभ देने हेतु आमंत्रित किया। स्वामी संतों सहित पधारे। भक्तों ने भावपूर्वक स्वामी का पाद-पूजन किया और साष्टांग दंडवत प्रणाम किए।
तत्पश्चात गोपालानंद स्वामी वहां से उठकर खारी वाव के निकट स्थित एक प्राचीन शिखरबद्ध मंदिर में पधारे। उस भव्य मंदिर को देखकर स्वामी ने हरिभक्तों से पूछा: “इस मंदिर में किस देव की स्थापना की गई है?” भक्तों ने बताया: “स्वामी! यह श्री सूर्यनारायण देव का प्राचीन मंदिर है।” स्वामी बोले: “सूर्यनारायण तो हमारे परम पूज्य देव हैं, चलिए दर्शन करें!” स्वामी ने मंदिर में प्रवेश कर पुजारी से भेंट की और श्री सूर्यनारायण देव के सम्मुख स्वादिष्ट बर्फी का थाल नैवेद्य रूप में अर्पित किया।
सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी ने सूर्यनारायण देव की मूर्ति के समीप खड़े होकर पूछा: “हे सविता देव! आप यहां प्रसन्न तो हैं न? इस विशाल मंदिर में आपकी सेवा-पूजा विधिपूर्वक अनुकूल तो हो रही है?”
तब सभी के सुनते हुए सूर्यनारायण देव की प्रतिमा से साक्षात दिव्य वाणी प्रकट हुई: “हे स्वामी! आपके पधारने से मुझे परम प्रसन्नता हुई है। यह ब्राह्मण पुजारी श्रद्धा से सेवा तो करता है, किंतु यथोचित शुचिता और धर्म का पालन नहीं करता। बिना छने जल और दूध से भोजन बनाकर मुझे थाल धराता है, अतः मैं वह भोग ग्रहण नहीं करता! हे स्वामी! इस समय साक्षात पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान श्रीस्वामीनारायण पृथ्वी पर अवतरित होकर असंख्य जीवों का मोक्ष कर रहे हैं और एकांतिक भक्तों को दिव्य सुख प्रदान कर रहे हैं। मैं भी उन्हीं महाप्रभु का एकांतिक भक्त हूं और मेरा यह समस्त तेज और ऐश्वर्य उन्हीं के प्रताप से है! अतः मेरी यह उत्कट अभिलाषा है कि मैं भी उन परम प्रभु के चरणों के समीप रहकर उनकी अखंड सेवा करूं!”
यह सुनकर गोपालानंद स्वामी ने वचन दिया: “यदि आपकी ऐसी हार्दिक इच्छा है, तो चार दिन पश्चात जब हम वडताल जाएंगे, तब आपको साथ ले चलेंगे। वडताल धाम में लक्ष्मीनारायण देव विराजमान हैं, उनके समीप आपकी प्रतिमा की स्थापना करेंगे।” यह सुनकर सूर्यदेव अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए।
चार दिन बाद सूर्यनारायण देव एक तेजस्वी ब्राह्मण का रूप धारण कर गोपालानंद स्वामी के साथ वडताल पहुंचे। उसी समय गढ़पुर में विराजमान श्रीजी महाराज ने वडताल से आए जोबन पगी, सुंदर पगी आदि काठी भक्तों से कहा: “वडताल में आपके कुलदेव सूर्यनारायण देव की प्रतिष्ठा करनी है।” काठी भक्तों ने कहा: “महाराज! आप सूर्यदेव की स्थापना करें तो हम अत्यंत प्रसन्न हैं, किंतु गोपालानंद स्वामी वडोदरा में हैं; उनसे पूछ लें।”
श्रीजी महाराज ने हंसकर परम रहस्य उद्घाटित किया: “गोपालानंद स्वामी हमसे कभी भिन्न नहीं हैं! वे निरंतर हमारे साथ ही हैं। वे वडोदरा हों या ब्रह्मांड में कहीं भी हों, जहां हम हैं वहां वे हैं और जहां वे हैं वहां हम हैं! उनका हृदय हम हैं और हमारा हृदय वे हैं। जिस क्षण हमने संकल्प किया, उसी क्षण स्वामी सूर्यनारायण देव को साथ लेकर वडताल पहुंच चुके हैं और हमारी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं!”
अगले दिन श्रीजी महाराज वडताल पधारे और सप्तमुखी अश्वों के रथ पर विराजमान श्री सूर्यनारायण देव की प्रतिमा की वैदिक विधि से अपने सान्निध्य में प्रतिष्ठा की। विप्ररूप सूर्यदेव ने उस पवित्र प्रतिमा में प्रवेश किया। जिस प्रकार सच्चिदानंद स्वामी के साथ श्री रणछोड़रायजी द्वारिका से वडताल पधारे थे, उसी प्रकार सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी की कृपा से सूर्यनारायण देव वडोदरा से वडताल पधारे।

Arrival of Suryanarayan Dev from Vadodara’s Khari Vav to Vadtal and the Glory of Gopalanand Swami
In the city of Vadodara, near the Khari Vav locality, resided Suraiya Luhar and about a dozen devout followers of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya. With deep spiritual longing, they invited Sadguru Shree Gopalanand Swami and a retinue of fifteen to twenty ascetics to their home for sacred worship and hospitality. Swami graciously arrived, and the devotees worshipped him with deep reverence and offered humble prostrations (dandvat pranam).
Thereafter, Gopalanand Swami walked over to an ancient shikharbaddh temple situated beside Khari Vav. Beholding the majestic temple, Swami enquired of the devotees, “Which deity is enshrined within this holy sanctuary?” The devotees replied, “Swami, this is the sanctified temple of Shree Suryanarayan Dev (the Sun God).” Swami said, “Suryanarayan is our venerable deity; let us enter and have darshan!” Entering the temple, Swami greeted the resident priest and placed a platter of sweet barfi before Shree Suryanarayan Dev as an offering.
Standing directly beside the sacred murti of Suryanarayan Dev, Sadguru Gopalanand Swami addressed the deity: “O Savita Dev! Are you at peace and contented here? Is the daily worship and ritual service conducted smoothly and comfortably in this grand temple?”
To the astonishment of all present, a clear, divine voice resonated directly from the sacred murti: “O Swami! Your auspicious arrival has filled me with boundless joy. This Brahmin priest certainly performs worship with devotional sentiment, yet he fails to observe the strict codes of scriptural purity. He cooks offerings using unstrained water and unpurified milk; therefore, I never partake of those food offerings! Furthermore, O Swami, at this very moment, the Supreme Sovereign Parabrahman Bhagwan Swaminarayan has visibly descended upon earth, liberating countless souls and bestowing transcendental bliss upon His exclusive devotees. I too am an exclusive devotee of that supreme Lord; all my radiance, majesty, and celestial glory are derived solely from His divine grace! Therefore, it is my heartfelt longing to dwell perpetually in the divine vicinity of that Supreme Lord and serve Him directly!”
Hearing this heartfelt petition, Gopalanand Swami promised, “If such is your divine yearning, when we depart for Vadtal in four days, we shall bring you along. In the sacred pilgrimage of Vadtal, where Shree Laxminarayan Dev is consecrated, we shall enshrine your murti in His divine proximity!” Overjoyed, Suryanarayan Dev extolled, “Swami! You are indeed the manifest embodiment of the Lord’s supreme eternal abode, Akshardham!”
Four days later, Suryanarayan Dev assumed the physical guise of a radiant Brahmin and accompanied Gopalanand Swami to Vadtal. Meanwhile in Gadhpur, Shreeji Maharaj addressed Joban Pagi, Sundar Pagi, and other Kathi devotees from Vadtal, saying, “We wish to consecrate your ancestral deity (kuldev) Suryanarayan Dev in Vadtal.” The Kathi devotees responded, “Maharaj, if You install Suryanarayan Dev, we are immensely pleased; however, Gopalanand Swami is currently in Vadodara; kindly consult him upon his arrival.”
Shreeji Maharaj smiled warmly and revealed their transcendental oneness: “Gopalanand Swami is never separate from Us! He remains perpetually united with Us. Whether he is in Vadodara or anywhere in the cosmic realms, wherever We are, he is, and wherever he is, We are! His heart is Our abode, and Our heart is his. The very moment We conceived the divine resolve, Swami arrived in Vadtal escorting Suryanarayan Dev, and he is currently awaiting Our arrival!”
The following day, Shreeji Maharaj graced Vadtal and consecrated the sacred murti of Shree Suryanarayan Dev riding upon a chariot drawn by seven horses, in His own divine presence with Vedic rites. The Brahmin-form Sun God entered the holy murti. Just as Shree Ranchhodrayji journeyed from Dwarka to Vadtal with Sacchidanand Swami, so too did Suryanarayan Dev travel from Vadodara to Vadtal through the divine grace of Sadguru Gopalanand Swami.
