શ્રીહરિના આદેશથી સદગુરુ અદભૂતાનંદ સ્વામી સત્સંગ વિચરણ મા ફરતા ફરતા નર્મદાનો કાંઠો ઉતરીને નાંદોદ તાલુકાના ભદામ ગામે પધાર્યા. ગામમાં પાટીદાર ના દિકરા દલાભાઇને સત્સંગ કરાવયો. એ દિવસે એકાદશી હતી તો ઉપવાસ કર્યો ને બીજે દિવસે બારસના પારણા સારુ પાટીદાર દલાભાઇએ કૂંભારની ત્યાથી એક નવી માટલીને એક શેર ખીચડી લાવી દીધી. અદભૂતાનંદ સ્વામી નદીના પટમાં મંગાળો કરીને માટલીમાં ખીચડી પકવતા હતા.
એ જ સમયે નાંદોદના રાજાનો દિવાન પાટીદાર ગણેશજી પોતાના ઘરની મેડીના ગોખમાં બેઠો બેઠો સ્વામીને ખીચડી પકવતા જોતો હતો. એમના ગામનો નારાયણગીરી બાવો જે સત્સંગનો દ્વેષી હતો એ તયા એમની પાસે આવીને બોલ્યો કે આપડા ગામમાં સ્વામિનારાયણનુ ટીખળ પેઠું છે. ત્યારે ગણેશજી બોલ્યો કે એ વળી કયા પેઠુ છે? ત્યારે બાવો દ્વેષથી બોલ્યો કે પેલો સ્વામિનારાયણ નો મૂંડિયો હાલ નદીના પટમાં ખીચડી પકાવે છે એ…! આ જોઇને દ્વેષથી દિવાને સીપાઇને મોકલીને કહ્યું કે જા પેલા સ્વામિનારાયણના મૂંડિયાને નદીના પટમાંથી હાંકી કાઢ્ય..!
સીપાઇ તો તુરંત સ્વામી પાસે આવ્યો ને બોલ્યો કે અમારા દિવાન ગણેશજીનો આદેશ છે કે તમે આહીથી ચાલ્યા જાઓ..! ત્યારે અદભૂતાનંદ સ્વામી બોલ્યા કે હમણાં ખીચડી પાકી જાય એટલે જમીને ચાલ્યો જાઇશ ને તમારા ગામમાં નહી પેસું..! આ સાંભળીને સીપાઇ પાછો ગયો ને દિવાને બોલ્યો કે એ સાધુ હમણાં ખીચડી જમીને વયા જાશે. ત્યારે દ્વેષી ગણેશજી બોલ્યો કે તુ જા અને એને અત્યારે ને અત્યારે ત્યાથી હાંકી કાઢ્ય..! સીપાઇએ તુરંત પરત સ્વામી પાહે આવીને સ્વામીને ચાલ્યા જવાનું કહ્યું ત્યારે ક્ષમામુર્તિ એવા અદભૂતાનંદ સ્વામી બોલ્યા કે ભલે તઇ..! આ ખીચડી પાકી જાય ત્યારે આ હાંલ્લી તુ લઇ જાજે ને જમજે..! એમ કહીને વગર જમ્યે જ ત્યાથી ચાલી નીકળ્યા.
સ્વામી ત્યાથી એકાદ ગાઉ આઘેરા બાજુ ના ગામ ચિત્રાવાડીએ આવ્યા ને બીજા પાટીદાર ભીખાભાઇ હતા એમના ઘરે ભીક્ષા કરી, ભીખાભાઇએ ભીક્ષામાં બાજરાનો લોટ આપ્યો એની બાંટીઓ બનાવીને સ્વામી તયા જમ્યા ને એકાદશીનું પારણું કર્યું.
ચિત્રાવાડી ગામે અદભૂતાનંદ સ્વામીને જમાડ્યા એ પુણ્ય પૃતાપે શ્રીહરિએ ભીખાભાઇને સાત દિકરા ઓ દીધા.
ભદામના ગણેશજીએ પવિત્ર સાધુનો અપરાધ કરવા બદલ શ્રીહરિએ સહન કરી શક્યા નહી. ગણેશજીએ એજ રાતે બીજા પાટીદાર ના દિકરા હરિભાઇને માર મરાવયો ને લોહીલુહાણ કરાવયો જે ગુના બદલ તેરસને દિવસ એને નાંદોદના રાજા પાસે ન્યાય સારુ લઇ ગયા. રાજાએ તપાસ કરાવતા દિવાન ગણેશજી ગુનેગાર ઠર્યો ને દિવાનપદુ ગયું ને જેલમાં પુરાયો ને આખરે તયા ને ત્યાં કોટડી માં જ મરી ગયો. એના પરિવાર ના વીસ-પચીસ જણ હતા એ પણ બધા કમોતે મૂવા.
અદભૂતાનંદ સ્વામી વિચરણ કરીને ગઢપુર પધાર્યા ત્યારે શ્રીહરિ ને વાત કરી જે હે મહારાજ..! મારા અંતરમાંતો એનું બગડે એવો સંકલ્પેય નહોતો, પણ તમે અપરાધ ખમી શક્યા નહી ને સાધુના અપરાધનું ફળ તમે બતાવ્યું ને ચિત્રાવાડી ના પાટીદારનું સારુ થયું એ સેવાનું ફળ પણ તમે જ બતાવતા હતા.

भदाम के गणेशजी और अद्भुतानंद स्वामी का अपराध
श्रीहरि की आज्ञा से सद्गुरु अद्भुतानंद स्वामी सत्संग-विचरण करते हुए नर्मदा नदी का तट पार करके नांदोद तालुका के भदाम गाँव पधारे। गाँव में उन्होंने पाटीदार दलभाई को सत्संग कराकर नियम-धर्म में दृढ़ किया। उस दिन एकादशी का पावन व्रत था, अतः स्वामी ने उपवास किया। अगले दिन द्वादशी (बारस) के पारणे के लिए पाटीदार दलभाई कुम्हार के यहाँ से एक नई मटकी (हाँडी) और एक सेर खिचड़ी की सामग्री ले आए। अद्भुतानंद स्वामी नदी के पट (रेत) में चूल्हा बनाकर मटकी में खिचड़ी पकाने लगे।
उसी समय नांदोद के राजा का दीवान पाटीदार गणेशजी अपने घर की मेड़ी (अटारी) के झरोखे में बैठा-बैठा स्वामी को खिचड़ी पकाते हुए देख रहा था। गाँव का एक बावा (वैरागी) नारायणगिरी, जो सत्संग से अत्यंत द्वेष रखता था, वह दीवान के पास आकर बोला, “हमारे गाँव में स्वामीनारायण का उपद्रव घुस आया है!” तब गणेशजी ने पूछा, “कहाँ घुस आया है?” तब बावे ने ईर्ष्यावश कहा, “वह जो स्वामीनारायण का मूँडिया (साधु) नदी के पट में खिचड़ी पका रहा है, वही!” यह सुनकर द्वेष से भरे दीवान ने अपने सिपाही को भेजकर कहा, “जा, उस स्वामीनारायण के मूँडिए को नदी के पट से तुरंत भगा दे!”
सिपाही तुरंत स्वामी के पास आया और बोला, “हमारे दीवान गणेशजी का हुक्म है कि आप यहाँ से तुरंत चले जाएँ!” तब अद्भुतानंद स्वामी ने शांतिपूर्वक कहा, “बस अभी खिचड़ी पक जाए, तो उसे आरोग कर मैं चला जाऊँगा और आपके गाँव में प्रवेश नहीं करूँगा।” सिपाही ने लौटकर दीवान से कहा कि वह साधु खिचड़ी पकते ही खाकर चले जाएँगे। परंतु द्वेषी गणेशजी ने क्रोध में कहा, “तू तुरंत जा और उसे इसी क्षण वहाँ से निकाल बाहर कर!” सिपाही ने पुनः आकर स्वामी से चले जाने को कहा। तब क्षमा की साक्षात् मूर्ति सद्गुरु अद्भुतानंद स्वामी बोले, “जैसी प्रभु की इच्छा! जब यह खिचड़ी पक जाए, तब तू यह हाँडी ले जाना और खा लेना।” ऐसा कहकर स्वामी भूखे पेट ही बिना पारणा किए वहाँ से चल पड़े।
स्वामी वहाँ से लगभग एक गाऊ दूर स्थित निकटवर्ती गाँव चित्रावाड़ी पहुँचे। वहाँ एक अन्य पाटीदार भीखाभाई के घर जाकर भिक्षा माँगी। भीखाभाई ने प्रेमपूर्वक बाजरे का आटा भिक्षा में दिया। स्वामी ने उस आटे की बाटियाँ (बांटी) बनाईं, भोजन आरोग कर अपनी एकादशी का पारणा किया।
चित्रावाड़ी गाँव के भीखाभाई द्वारा सद्गुरु अद्भुतानंद स्वामी को भोजन कराने और उनकी सेवा करने के पुण्यरूपी प्रताप से श्रीहरि ने उन्हें सात सुयोग्य पुत्र प्रदान किए।
दूसरी ओर, भदाम के गणेशजी द्वारा एक निष्पाप, परम पवित्र संत का किया गया घोर अपराध श्रीहरि सहन न कर सके। उसी रात गणेशजी ने किसी विवाद में एक अन्य पाटीदार के पुत्र हरिभाई को बुरी तरह पिटवाया और लहूलुहान कर दिया। इस अपराध के कारण त्रयोदशी (तेरस) के दिन उसे न्याय हेतु नांदोद के राजा के सम्मुख पेश किया गया। राजा ने निष्पक्ष जाँच करवाई, जिसमें दीवान गणेशजी दोषी पाया गया। उसका दीवान पद छिन गया, उसे बंदी बनाकर कारागार में डाल दिया गया, और अंततः कालकोठरी में ही उसकी तड़प-तड़प कर मृत्यु हो गई। उसके परिवार के बीस-पच्चीस लोग भी अकाल एवं कुमौत मरे।
जब सद्गुरु अद्भुतानंद स्वामी विचरण करते हुए गढ़पुर पधारे, तब उन्होंने श्रीहरि से यह वृत्तांत कहते हुए प्रार्थना की, “हे महाराज! मेरे मन में तो उस दीवान का कभी बुरा होने का लेशमात्र भी संकल्प नहीं था, परंतु आप अपने संत का अपराध सहन नहीं कर सके और आपने साधु-द्रोह का भयानक फल प्रत्यक्ष दिखा दिया; और दूसरी ओर चित्रावाड़ी के पाटीदार का जो कल्याण हुआ, वह भी संतों की निष्काम सेवा का ही दिव्य फल था जिसे आपने दर्शाया।”

Ganeshji of Bhadam and the Offense Against Adbutanand Swami
Under the divine instruction of Shri Hari, Sadguru Adbutanand Swami was traveling for satsang vicharan. Crossing the banks of the sacred Narmada River, he arrived at the village of Bhadam in Nandod taluka. In the village, he introduced Satsang to Dalabhai, the son of a Patidar farmer, inspiring him to take spiritual vows. As it was the sacred day of Ekadashi, Swami observed a waterless fast. The following day, for the breaking of the fast (parana) on Baras (Dwadashi), Dalabhai brought a brand-new earthen pot from the potter along with a seer (measure) of khichdi ingredients. Sadguru Adbutanand Swami lit a small firewood stove on the sandy riverbed and began cooking the khichdi in the earthen pot.
At that time, Ganeshji, a Patidar who served as the royal minister (diwan) to the King of Nandod, was sitting on the upper balcony of his house, watching Swami cooking khichdi by the river. A local ascetic named Narayangiri, who harbored bitter enmity toward the Swaminarayan sampradaya, approached the minister and said maliciously, “The Swaminarayan trouble has infiltrated our village!” Ganeshji asked, “Where has it entered?” The envious ascetic sneered, “Look at that shaven-headed Swaminarayan monk cooking khichdi on the riverbed down there!” Instigated by malice, the minister sent a soldier and ordered, “Go and drive that Swaminarayan monk out of the riverbed at once!”
The soldier promptly approached Swami and announced, “Our minister Ganeshji has ordered that you leave this place immediately!” Adbutanand Swami gently replied, “As soon as this khichdi is cooked, I will partake of it and leave; I will not enter your village.” The soldier returned and informed the minister that the sadhu would depart as soon as he finished his meal. However, the spiteful Ganeshji angrily snapped, “Go right back and chase him away this very second!” The soldier returned to Swami and insisted that he leave immediately. An embodiment of forgiveness and patience, Adbutanand Swami calmly replied, “Very well! Once this khichdi is fully cooked, you may take the earthen pot and eat it yourself.” Saying this, Swami departed hungry, without breaking his fast.
Walking about a gau (two miles) away, Swami arrived at the neighboring village of Chitravadi. There, he sought alms (bhiksha) at the home of another Patidar named Bhikhabhai. Bhikhabhai devoutly offered millet flour (bajra no lot). Swami prepared baked millet dough balls (baati), offered them, and finally broke his Ekadashi fast.
As a divine reward for Bhikhabhai’s devout service in feeding Sadguru Adbutanand Swami, Shri Hari blessed him with seven worthy sons.
On the other hand, Shri Hari could not tolerate the grave offense (aparadh) committed by Ganeshji against such a pure and detached sadhu. That very night, blinded by arrogance, Ganeshji had another young Patidar named Haribhai brutally beaten and severely injured. For this violent crime, on the thirteenth day (Teras), he was dragged before the King of Nandod for justice. Following a royal investigation, Minister Ganeshji was found guilty; he was stripped of his ministerial post and cast into prison. Eventually, he met a miserable death inside that very dungeon. Furthermore, twenty to twenty-five members of his extended family also suffered untimely and tragic deaths.
When Sadguru Adbutanand Swami concluded his travels and arrived in Gadhpur, he related the entire incident to Shri Hari, praying: “O Maharaj! In my heart, I never harbored even the slightest negative thought toward him. Yet You could not endure the insult done unto Your humble sadhu and demonstrated the terrible consequence of offending a holy saint. At the same time, You also demonstrated the glorious reward of serving the saints through the immense blessings bestowed upon the Patidar of Chitravadi.”
