કચ્છીગઢના શીવરામ મહેતા અને શ્રીજી મહારાજની રક્ષા
તિર્થધામ દ્વારિકા નજીક કચ્છીગઢમાં શીવરામ મહેતા નામે શ્રીહરિના અનન્ય આશ્રિત હતા. તેઓ ખજાનચી તરીકે રાજાની નોકરીએ હતા. એમના હાથ નીચે ઘણા ઉચા પગારે કામકરતા પગારદારો પણ હતા. પોતે સત્સંગી હોય શીક્ષાપત્રીની આજ્ઞાઓ શારધાર પાળતા ને વહીવટમાં જરાપણ લેભાગુ ઓને ચલાવી લેતા નહી એટલે પોતાના હાથ હેઠળના પગારદારોને ખૂંચતુ હતું.
એકવખત ખજાનામાં ભૂજથી રાજના તમામ પગારદારોને પગાર ચુકવવા સારુ કોરીઓથી ભરેલ કોથળીઓ આવી. આ કોરીની કોથળીઓ ભરેલ જોઇને કેટલાક પગારદારોનુ મન બગડ્યું ને ભેગા થઇને કાવતરું ઘડ્યું કે રાત્રે શીવરામ મહેતા સુતા હોય ત્યારે જ મારી નાખવા ને કોરીની કોથળીઓ ખજાનામાંથી લૂંટી લેવી.
સાંજ પડતા શીવરામ મહેતા તો રોજીંદાકૃમ પૃમાણે રોકડ જમા કરી તેજૂરીઓને તાળા મરાવીને ખજાનાની કૂંચીઓ રાજમાં જમા કરાવીને શ્રીહરીનુ ભજન કરતા થકા પોતાની પથારીએ ત્યાંજ સુતા હતા.
વચનામૃતમા કહ્યા પૃમાણે ભગવાન તો ભક્ત ના છે અભકતના નથી એ ન્યાયે ભક્તવત્સલ શ્રીહરિએ શીવરામ મહેતાને સોટીથી ઉંઘમાંથી જગાડયા ને દર્શન દીધા.
એકાએક જ શ્રીહરિના દર્શન થતા શીવરામ મહેતા તો ધબોધબ દંડવત કરવા મંડયા. શ્રીહરિ કહેકે તુ અત્યારે જ અમારી સાથે ચાલ એમ કરીને સાથે લીધા. શ્રીહરિની મુર્તી સાથે શીવરામ મહેતા રસ્તે અંધારુ હોવા છતાં મુરતીના તેજના અજવાળે ચાલતા થયા. શીવરામ તો શ્રીહરિના પૃતાપે સમુદ્રના પાણી ઉપર પણ એમનમ જ ચાલ્યા ને થોડીવાર થઇ તયા તો માંડવી બંદર દેખાવા લગભગ લાગ્યું. આ જોઇને શીવરામ મહેતા બોલ્યા કે મહારાજ, આ તો માંડવીના કાંઠાનો દિવો દેખાય છે કે શુ? ત્યારે શ્રીહરિ એમને કહે કે શીવરામ તમે આ માંડવી ગામમાં જાઓ, દ્વારિકા કચ્છીગઢમાં તમારા કેટલાક પગારદારોએ તમને સૂતા ઉંઘમાંજ મારી નાખવાનો મનસૂબો ઘડ્યો હતો એટલે અમે તમને ઉઠાડીને આયા લઇ આવ્યા છીએ. માટે હવે તમે માંડવી જાઓ.
આમ, શ્રીહરિએ પોતાના ભક્ત શીવરામ મહેતાની કચ્છીગઢમાં સુતા ઉઠાડીને રક્ષા કરી.

कच्छीगढ़ के शिवराम मेहता और श्रीजी महाराज द्वारा रक्षा
तीर्थधाम द्वारिका के समीप स्थित कच्छीगढ़ में शिवराम मेहता नाम के श्रीहरि के एक अनन्य आश्रित भक्त रहते थे। वे राजा के यहाँ कोषाध्यक्ष (खजांची) के पद पर कार्यरत थे। उनके अधीन कई उच्च वेतन पाने वाले कर्मचारी भी काम करते थे। शिवराम मेहता स्वयं एक निष्ठावान सत्संगी थे, इसलिए वे शिक्षापत्री की आज्ञाओं का अक्षरशः पालन करते थे और राजकाज के प्रबंधन में तनिक भी बेईमानी, कपट या अनुचित व्यवहार सहन नहीं करते थे। उनकी यह सत्यनिष्ठा उनके अधीनस्थ कर्मचारियों को खटकती थी।
एक बार राज्य के सभी कर्मचारियों को वेतन देने के लिए भुज से खजाने में ‘कोरी’ (कच्छ की तत्कालीन मुद्रा) से भरी थैलियाँ आईं। धन से भरी इन थैलियों को देखकर कुछ कर्मचारियों का मन डोल गया और उनकी नीयत बिगड़ गई। उन सभी ने मिलकर एक दुष्ट षड्यंत्र रचा कि रात के समय जब शिवराम मेहता सो रहे होंगे, तभी उनकी हत्या कर दी जाए और खजाने से कोरी की थैलियाँ लूट ली जाएँ।
संध्या होने पर शिवराम मेहता ने अपनी दैनिक दिनचर्या के अनुसार रोकड़ का हिसाब-किताब मिलाया, तिजोरियों पर ताले लगाए, खजाने की चाबियाँ राजदरबार में जमा कराईं और श्रीहरि का भजन-स्मरण करते हुए वहीं अपने बिछौने पर सो गए।
वचनामृत में जैसा कहा गया है कि ‘भगवान तो अपने भक्त के हैं, अभक्त के नहीं’—इसी न्याय के अनुसार भक्तवत्सल श्रीहरि स्वयं वहाँ पधारे और अपनी छड़ी (सोटी) से शिवराम मेहता को नींद से जगाकर दिव्य दर्शन दिए।
अचानक श्रीहरि के साक्षात दर्शन पाकर शिवराम मेहता भावविभोर होकर दनादन दंडवत प्रणाम करने लगे। तब श्रीहरि ने उनसे कहा, “तुम अभी इसी क्षण हमारे साथ चलो!” ऐसा कहकर प्रभु उन्हें अपने साथ ले चले। रास्ते में घोर अंधकार था, फिर भी श्रीहरि की दिव्य मूर्ति से प्रस्फुटित हो रहे अलौकिक प्रकाश के सहारे शिवराम मेहता उनके पीछे-पीछे चलने लगे। श्रीहरि के असीम प्रताप से शिवराम मेहता समुद्र के जल पर भी सहज रूप से पैदल चलते चले गए। कुछ ही देर में मांडवी बंदरगाह दिखाई देने लगा।
यह देखकर शिवराम मेहता ने आश्चर्यचकित होकर पूछा, “हे महाराज! क्या यह मांडवी के तट का दीपक दिखाई दे रहा है?” तब श्रीहरि ने उनसे कहा, “शिवराम! तुम इस मांडवी गाँव में चले जाओ। द्वारिका के कच्छीगढ़ में तुम्हारे कुछ कर्मचारियों ने रात में सोते समय तुम्हारी हत्या करने का षड्यंत्र रचा था, इसीलिए हम तुम्हें नींद से जगाकर यहाँ ले आए हैं। इसलिए अब तुम मांडवी में सुरक्षित रहो।”
इस प्रकार, भक्तवत्सल श्रीहरि ने कच्छीगढ़ में अपने अनन्य भक्त शिवराम मेहता को नींद से जगाकर उनके प्राणों की रक्षा की और उन्हें सुरक्षित स्थान पर पहुँचाया।

Shivram Mehta of Kachchhigadh and Shriji Maharaj’s Divine Protection
In Kachchhigadh, situated near the sacred pilgrimage site of Dwarka, lived a devout and surrender-filled devotee of Shri Hari named Shivram Mehta. He served as the royal treasurer (khajanchi) in the service of the king. Under his supervision, several well-compensated employees worked. Being a dedicated Satsangi, Shivram Mehta strictly adhered to the sacred precepts of the Shikshapatri and never tolerated any deceit, corruption, or irregularity in administrative affairs. This uncompromising integrity vexed the corrupt employees working under him.
Once, several bags filled with ‘Koris’ (the currency of Kutch) arrived from Bhuj at the treasury to disburse salaries to all state employees. Seeing these bags brimming with silver coins, the minds of some corrupt employees became corrupt. They conspired together to murder Shivram Mehta at night while he was asleep and loot all the bags of koris from the treasury.
As evening descended, Shivram Mehta completed his daily routine by reconciling the accounts, locking the vaults securely, depositing the treasury keys with the royal court, and then retired to bed right there, continuously chanting the holy name of Shri Hari.
As proclaimed in the Vachanamrut, “God belongs to His devotee and never to the non-devotee.” Upholding this divine truth, Bhaktavatsal Shri Hari Himself arrived at the treasury, gently awakened Shivram Mehta with His divine cane (soti), and blessed him with His divine darshan.
Beholding Shri Hari standing before him so unexpectedly, Shivram Mehta was filled with immense joy and began offering prostrations (dandvat pranam) one after another. Shri Hari said to him, “Come with Us right this moment!” and took him along. Although it was pitch dark along the path, Shivram Mehta walked effortlessly by the radiant divine light emanating from Shri Hari’s sacred form. By the divine grace and supreme power of Shri Hari, Shivram walked across the waters of the sea as if on solid ground. In a short while, the port of Mandvi came into view.
Observing this, Shivram Mehta asked in wonder, “Maharaj, is that the lamp of the Mandvi seashore shining ahead?” Shri Hari replied, “Shivram, go into this town of Mandvi. Back in Kachchhigadh near Dwarka, some of your employees had plotted to kill you in your sleep tonight. That is why We woke you up and brought you here safely. Therefore, proceed to Mandvi now.”
In this miraculous manner, Bhaktavatsal Shri Hari protected His faithful devotee Shivram Mehta from impending death by awakening him in Kachchhigadh and guiding him across the sea to safety.
