ધ્યાનદાસજી સ્વામી (માવજી સુથાર) અને સમાધિનું સુખ
લૂણાવાડા પાસેના હરિપર ગામે માવજી સુથાર નાનપણથી જંતર-મંતર જાણતા હતા. કોઇને વીંછી કે સર્પદંશ થાય તો પોતે ઉતારતા તેમજ બીજી મેલી વિદ્યા પણ પોતે શીખેલી તે તાંત્રિકવિધીઓ કરતા. એના પાડોશમાં મુમુક્ષુ મોરારજી વિપૃ રેતા હતા એ સંતોના યોગે સત્સંગી થયેલા. મોરારજી વિપૃને પૃગટ શ્રીહરિનો પાકકો નિશ્ચય હતો એટલે એ માવજી સુથારની મેલી વિદ્યા વગેરે ને બહુ ગણકારતા નહી. એકદિવસ મોરારજી વિપૃ માવજી સુથાર ને કહે કે તમે આ જંતર-મંતર વગેરે કરો છોવ, પણ એનાથી કાય તમારા આત્માનું ભલું થાહે નય. પૃગટ શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન બીરાજે છે તો એમના શરણે થાઓ ને આ બધીય જંજાળ છોડો, નહીતર લખ-ચોરાશીમાં ધોકા ખાઇ ખાઇને કોઇ કાળે છુટકો નય થાય. માવજી સુથારને બહુ ધમંડ તે બોલ્યા કે હુ મારા જંતર મંતર સ્વામિનારાયણ ઉપર અજમાવું અને જો એને કાય ન થાય તો જ હુ એના શરણે થાઉં.
આ સાંભળીને મોરારજી વિપૃ કહે કે એ પૃગટ પૃભુ ઉપર તો તમારું કાય ઉપજે જ નય, પણ જો તમે મારા ઉપર જંતર મંતર કરશો તોય તમારું કાય ઉપજે નય. માવજી સુથારનું સ્વમાન ઘવાતા એમણે એકદિવસ મોરારજી વિપૃ ઉપર જંતર-મંતર વગેરે તાંત્રિક વિધીઓ અજમાવી જોઇ પણ કાય થયું જ નહી. મોરારજી વિપૃ નો વાળ વાંકો ન થયો. માવજી સુથારે બહુ પૃયત્નો કરયા પણ કોઇ કાંરી ફાવી નહી એટલે બહુ આશ્ચર્ય થયું તે મોરારજી વિપૃને કહે કે મને તમારા સાધુ પાહે લઇ જાઓ.
થોડેસમયે મહાપૃસાદાનંદ સ્વામી હરિપર ગામમાં પધાર્યા એટલે એમના દર્શન કરીને વર્તમાન ધારણ કરીને માવજી સુથાર સત્સંગી થયા. મહાપૃસાદાનંદ સ્વામી કહે એ પંચ વર્તમાન પાળજો ને ભગવાનનુ ભજન કરજયો. મોરારજી વિપૃ જેવા સારા સત્સંગી મળ્યા છે તો એમનો સંગ રાખજો. એમ કહી સ્વામી બે દિવસ રોકાઇને બીજે ગામ સત્સંગ વિચરણમા ગયા.
માવજી સુથાર તો હવે કોઇનીય શેહ-શરમ રાખ્યા વગર જ ઉચ્ચ સ્વરે ‘સ્વામિનારાયણ.. સ્વામિનારાયણ..!’ એમ અહર્નિશ ભજન કરવા લાગ્યા. ઘરના સભ્યો ને અજુગતુ લાગતા તેઓ એમને ઘરમાં પુરી દેવા મંડયા.
એકદિવસ ઉચ્ચસ્વરે ભજન કરતા જાણીને એમના ઘરના સભ્યોએ એમને ઓરડામા પુરી દીધા હતા. તે સમે ડોઢ-બે દિવસ ના ઉપવાસ થયા તે સમે ભક્તવત્સલ શ્રીહરિએ એમને ઓરડા મા દર્શન દીધા ને છતે દેહે ત્યાથી ઉઠાવીને ગઢપુર લક્ષ્મીવાડીમાં લાવી દીધા.
એમણે લક્ષ્મીવાડીએ એક આખી રાત્ય ભજન કર્યું તો શ્રીહરિની મુર્તી દેખાવા લાગી. માવજી સુથાર ત્યાથી ચાલી ને તેઓ અમદાવાદ આવ્યા ને ગુરુ મહાપૃસાદાનંદ સ્વામી પાસે રહ્યા. પોતે અખંડ ભજન કરતા એટલે ભજનમય થય ગયા હતા. થોડેસમયે તેઓ મહાપૃસાદાનંદ સ્વામી ને કહે કે મને સાધુ કરો એટલે સ્વામીએ સદગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી પાસે દીક્ષા અપાવીને ધ્યાનદાસજી નામ પાડ્યું. તેઓને શરૂઆતમાં જ ચાર દિવસની સમાધી થતી. એકવખત તો અઢાર દિવસ સુધી સમાધી મા જતા રહેલા.
એમના ગુરુ મહાપૃસાદાનંદ સ્વામીના મંડળમા તેઓ કાયમ રહેતા એટલે લાંબો સમય સમાધી મા રહે તો મંડળના સંતોને સત્સંગ વિચરણમા બહુ અગવડતા પડતી.
એકવખત સદગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી મળ્યા એટલે મહાપૃસાદાનંદ સ્વામીએ એમને આ વાત જણાવી ત્યારે ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી કહે કે ધ્યાનદાસજી બીજા કશાય બંધનમાં તો બંધાય એવા નથી પણ જ્યારે સમાધીમા ન હોય ત્યારે એમને રસાસ્વાદ ની પૃીતી છે એમને સારા સારા ભોજન જમાડજો એટલે એ કારણે એમને બહુ સમાધી નહી રહે.
આમ સ્વામીના વચને એમને પછી ચાર દિવસની સમાધી રહેતી.
પુરવના જંતર મંતર કે તાંત્રિક વિદ્યા કરનારા માવજી સુથાર અખંડ ભજનનાં પૃતાપે ને સદગુરુ સંતોના આશીર્વાદે સમાધીનુ સુખ લેતા થઇ ગયા.

ध्यानदासजी स्वामी (मावजी सुथार) और समाधि का सुख
लूणावाड़ा के समीप हरिपर गाँव में मावजी सुथार (बढ़ई) बचपन से ही जंतर-मंतर (तंत्र-मंत्र) जानते थे। यदि किसी को बिच्छू या साँप काट लेता, तो वे उसका विष उतार देते थे। इसके साथ ही उन्होंने अन्य मैली विद्याएँ भी सीख रखी थीं और वे तांत्रिक क्रियाएँ किया करते थे। उनके पड़ोस में एक मुमुक्षु मोरारजी विप्र (ब्राह्मण) रहते थे, जो संतों के सत्संग से स्वामिनारायण सत्संगी बने थे। मोरारजी विप्र को साक्षात् प्रकट श्रीहरि की अलौकिक निष्ठा थी, इसलिए वे मावजी सुथार के तंत्र-मंत्र और मैली विद्या को तनिक भी नहीं गिनते थे।
एक दिन मोरारजी विप्र ने मावजी सुथार से कहा, “आप यह जो जंतर-मंतर आदि करते हैं, इससे आपके जीव का कोई कल्याण होने वाला नहीं है। आज साक्षात् भगवान श्री स्वामिनारायण पृथ्वी पर प्रकट विराजमान हैं; अतः आप उनके शरण में आइए और यह सारा प्रपंच छोड़ दीजिए। अन्यथा चौरासी लाख योनियों के भीषण चक्र में पड़कर कभी छुटकारा नहीं होगा।” मावजी सुथार को अपनी विद्या पर बड़ा अभिमान था। वह बोला, “मैं अपने जंतर-मंतर स्वामिनारायण पर आजमाऊँगा; यदि उन पर कोई असर न हुआ, तभी मैं उनकी शरण में जाऊँगा।”
यह सुनकर मोरारजी विप्र बोले, “उन साक्षात् प्रकट प्रभु पर तो तुम्हारा कोई प्रभाव पड़ ही नहीं सकता, परंतु यदि तुम मुझ पर भी अपने तंत्र-मंत्र आजमाओगे, तो भी तुम्हारा कुछ नहीं चलेगा।” मावजी सुथार का अहंकार आहत हुआ। एक दिन उसने मोरारजी विप्र पर विविध तांत्रिक प्रयोग और जंतर-मंतर आजमाए, परंतु मोरारजी विप्र का बाल भी बाँका न हुआ। मावजी सुथार ने भरसक प्रयास किए, किंतु उसकी एक न चली। उसे अत्यंत विस्मय हुआ और उसने मोरारजी विप्र से कहा, “मुझे अपने साधु के पास ले चलो।”
कुछ समय बाद सद्गुरु महाप्रसादानंद स्वामी हरिपर गाँव पधारे। उनके दिव्य दर्शन पाकर और पंच वर्तमान धारण कर मावजी सुथार सत्संगी बन गए। महाप्रसादानंद स्वामी ने कहा, “इन पंच वर्तमानों का दृढ़ता से पालन करना और भगवान का भजन करना। मोरारजी विप्र जैसे श्रेष्ठ सत्संगी मिले हैं, अतः इनका संग बनाए रखना।” इतना कहकर स्वामी दो दिन रुकने के पश्चात् अन्य गाँवों में सत्संग विचरण के लिए प्रस्थान कर गए।
अब तो मावजी सुथार किसी भी लोकलाज की परवाह किए बिना उच्च स्वर में अहर्निश ‘स्वामिनारायण.. स्वामिनारायण..!’ का कीर्तन और भजन करने लगे। उनके परिजनों को यह अनुचित लगा, तो वे उन्हें घर में बंद करने लगे। एक दिन उन्हें ज़ोर-ज़ोर से भजन करते देख परिजनों ने उन्हें एक कमरे में ताला लगाकर बंद कर दिया। डेढ़-दो दिन तक वे भूखे-प्यासे कमरे में ही बंद रहे। उस समय भक्तवत्सल श्रीहरि ने उन्हें उस कमरे में साक्षात् दर्शन दिए और सदेह वहाँ से उठाकर सीधे गढ़पुर की लक्ष्मीवाड़ी में पहुँचा दिया!
वहाँ लक्ष्मीवाड़ी में उन्होंने पूरी रात एकाग्रचित्त होकर भजन किया, जिससे उन्हें श्रीहरि की दिव्य मूर्ति का निरंतर दर्शन होने लगा। वहाँ से चलकर मावजी सुथार अहमदाबाद आए और अपने गुरु महाप्रसादानंद स्वामी के पास रहने लगे। वे अखंड भजन में लीन रहते थे और पूर्णतः भजनमय हो गए थे। कुछ समय पश्चात् उन्होंने महाप्रसादानंद स्वामी से प्रार्थना की, “मुझे साधु बना दीजिए।” तब स्वामी ने सद्गुरु गोपाळानंद स्वामी के कर-कमलों से उन्हें दीक्षा दिलाई और उनका नाम ‘ध्यानदासजी’ रखा।
दीक्षा के आरंभ से ही उन्हें चार-चार दिनों की समाधि लगने लगी। एक बार तो वे निरंतर अठारह दिनों तक गहरी समाधि में रहे। वे सदैव अपने गुरु महाप्रसादानंद स्वामी के मंडल में रहते थे, अतः उनके इतने लंबे समय तक समाधिस्थ रहने से मंडल के संतों को गाँव-गाँव सत्संग विचरण में बड़ी असुविधा होने लगी।
एक बार जब सद्गुरु गोपाळानंद स्वामी से भेंट हुई, तो महाप्रसादानंद स्वामी ने उन्हें यह कठिनाई बताई। तब गोपाळानंद स्वामी ने कहा, “ध्यानदासजी अन्य किसी भी सांसारिक बंधन में बँधने वाले नहीं हैं, परंतु जब वे समाधि में नहीं होते, तब उन्हें रस-स्वाद (स्वादिष्ट भोजन) की थोड़ी रुचि रहती है। आप उन्हें उत्तम-उत्तम भोजन जिमाया कीजिए; रस के स्वाद के कारण उन्हें बहुत लंबी समाधि नहीं लगेगी।”
तदनुसार स्वामी के वचनों से बाद में उनकी समाधि चार दिनों तक की ही रहने लगी। इस प्रकार पूर्व में जंतर-मंतर और तांत्रिक विद्या करने वाले मावजी सुथार, अखंड भजन के प्रताप और सद्गुरु संतों के पावन आशीर्वाद से समाधि के दिव्य आनंद का आस्वादन करने लगे।

Dhyandasji Swami (Mavji Sutar) and the Bliss of Samadhi
In the village of Haripar near Lunawada lived Mavji Sutar (a carpenter) who had practiced jantar-mantar (occult charms and spells) since his childhood. If anyone was bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion, he would neutralize the venom. Furthermore, he had learned black magic (meli vidya) and performed various tantric rituals. In his neighborhood lived a spiritually inclined seeker named Morarji Vipra (a Brahmin), who had become a devotee (satsangi) through the association of holy sadhus. Morarji Vipra possessed firm conviction in manifest Shri Hari, and consequently, he paid no heed to Mavji Sutar’s occult practices.
One day, Morarji Vipra said to Mavji Sutar, “You practice all these charms and occult rituals, but none of this will bring liberation to your soul (atma). Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan is currently manifest on earth; take refuge in Him and forsake all these entanglements. Otherwise, you will continue to suffer the endless tribulations of the cycle of 8.4 million births with no redemption.” Mavji Sutar was filled with pride and boastfully retorted, “I will test my spells against Swaminarayan. Only if nothing happens to Him will I ever surrender to Him.”
Hearing this, Morarji Vipra replied, “Your spells could never touch the manifest Lord, but even if you direct all your occult powers against me, nothing will happen to me either.” His pride provoked, Mavji Sutar performed various tantric rituals and directed his spells against Morarji Vipra. Yet, not even a single strand of hair on Morarji Vipra was harmed. Mavji tried with all his might, but none of his spells took effect. Stunned by this divine shield, Mavji Sutar humbly said to Morarji Vipra, “Please take me to your sadhu.”
A short while later, Sadguru Mahaprasadanand Swami arrived in Haripar. Mavji Sutar had his divine darshan, accepted the moral vows (vartaman), and embraced satsang. Mahaprasadanand Swami instructed him, “Strictly observe the five vows (panch vartaman) and chant the name of God. You have found an exceptional devotee like Morarji Vipra, so keep his company.” After staying for two days, Swami departed for spiritual travels (vicharan) in other villages.
Mavji Sutar cast aside all social inhibitions and began chanting “Swaminarayan.. Swaminarayan..!” aloud day and night. His family members felt embarrassed by his passionate devotion and began locking him inside the house. One day, hearing him chanting at the top of his voice, they locked him inside a room. For nearly two days, he was confined without food or water. At that moment, the compassionate Shri Hari, who is ever protective of His devotees (Bhaktavatsal), manifested before him inside that locked room, physically lifted him up, and transported him directly to Lakshmi Vadi in Gadhpur!
At Lakshmi Vadi, he engaged in ceaseless worship throughout the night, and the divine murti of Shri Hari became constantly visible to him. From there, Mavji Sutar traveled on foot to Ahmedabad and stayed under the care of his guru, Mahaprasadanand Swami. Engaged in uninterrupted devotion, he became completely immersed in the divine name. After some time, he prayed to Mahaprasadanand Swami, “Please initiate me as a sadhu.” Swami took him to Sadguru Gopalanand Swami, who initiated him into the monastic fold and named him Dhyandasji.
Right from the beginning, Dhyandasji would slip into profound meditative trances (samadhi) lasting four consecutive days. On one occasion, he remained submerged in samadhi for eighteen straight days! Since he always traveled with the group (mandal) of his guru Mahaprasadanand Swami, his prolonged trances caused immense practical difficulty for the sadhus during their spiritual journeys across villages.
When they met Sadguru Gopalanand Swami, Mahaprasadanand Swami shared this dilemma with him. Gopalanand Swami remarked, “Dhyandasji cannot be bound by any worldly ties. However, whenever he is not in samadhi, he retains an inclination for tasty food (rasasvad). Serve him sumptuous, flavorful meals; on account of that culinary taste, he will not stay in prolonged samadhi for too many days.”
Following Swami’s advice, his trances thereafter lasted around four days. Thus, Mavji Sutar, who once spent his life casting occult spells and practicing tantric arts, was transformed by the divine glory of constant chanting and the blessings of enlightened sadhus to relish the sublime bliss of divine samadhi.
