ઇંગોરાળાના કુંવરજી પટેલ અને ભાઇ સ્વામીનો ઉપદેશ
સદગુરુ ભાયાત્માનંદ (ભાઇ સ્વામી) વાગડ ગામે મોટેભાગે રહેતા હતા. એકવખત ઇંગોરાળાના પટેલ કુંવરજી જાગાણી વડોદરા રાજના કામે જતા હતા તે વાગડ રોકાવાના હતા તે ગઢડાથી કોઠારી ભકિતવલ્લભ સ્વામી એ ભાઇ સ્વામીને કાગળ લખ્યો કે એ સારા સત્સંગી છે તો સારી રીતે સાચવજો ને એમની બરદાસ્ત રાખજો. હરિભક્તોએ કુંવરજીભાઇ જાગાણીને મંદિરમાં ઉતારો કરાવયો ને હેતે જમાડ્યા. કુંવરજી પટેલને હોકો પીવાનું બંધાણ હતું તે પોતે સ્વામી હારે સભામાં બેઠાને હારે સેવક તરીકે વાળંદ રાખેલો એને બાવળની છાલ કે લાકડા લેવા મોકલ્યો. સેવક વાળંદે આવીને હરિભક્તો પાહે હોકા સારુ એ માંગણી કરી તો હરિભક્તો બોલ્યા કે ગઢડે થી કોઠારીએ કાગળ લખ્યો છે કે બહુ સારા હરિભક્ત છે તો બરદાસ્ત જાળવજો, ને આ તો હોકા ના હરેડ બંધાણી છે. સારા હરિભક્ત હોય તો એને હારે હોકો થોડો હોય..?
આ વાત કુંવરજી જાગાણી જાણી ગયા એટલે મનમાં વિચાર્યું કે કાગળમાં તો કોઠારીએ મારા વખાણ લખ્યા છે ને આ હોકાએ તો મને બધાય વચાળે ફજેત કર્યો. પોતે ઉભા થઇને મંદિરના પગથીયે જઇને હોકો પછાડી ને ભાંગી નાંખ્યો ને પોતે ઉતારે ગયા.
રાત્રે એમના મંદિરના ઉતારે કુંવરજી પટેલ સુતા હતા ને વાળંદ પટેલના પગ દાબતો હતો.
અધરાત વિત્યે ભાઇસ્વામી લઘુશંકા કરવા ઉઠ્યા તે સમયે એમણે આ જોયું એટલે બીજે દિવસ કુંવરજી પટેલ ને પાહે બોલાવીને કહ્યું કે આ પગચંપી શુ વળી? ત્યારે કુંવરજી પટેલ કહે કે મને વાળંદ પગચંપી કરે તો જ નિદ્રા આવે છે. ત્યારે ભાઇસ્વામી બોલ્યા કે કાલય સવારે દિવસ ફર્યો ને કોઇ પગચંપી કરવાનો નય રહે ત્યારે કેમ કરીને નિદ્રા આવશે એનો કોઇ દી વિચાર કર્યો છે? કુંવરજી જાગાણી સ્વામીની વાક્યનો મર્મ જાણી ગયા ને એજ સમયે વાળંદને રોકડ ખરચી આપીને ઘરે વળાવિયો ને પોતે નિરવ્યસની થયા ને હોકો છૂટી ગયો. પોતાને પગચંપી વગેરેના ફેલ હતા એ પણ જીવનભર છૂટી ગયા. સ્વામીના આશીર્વાદે પોતે સ્વયં સુખીયા થયા.

इंगोराळा के कुंवरजी पटेल और भाई स्वामी का उपदेश
सद्गुरु भायात्मानंद स्वामी (जिन्हें सभी ‘भाई स्वामी’ कहते थे) अधिकांशतः वागड़ गाँव में बिराजते थे। एक समय इंगोराळा गाँव के पटेल कुंवरजी जागाणी वडोदरा रियासत के किसी कार्यवश जा रहे थे और मार्ग में उनका वागड़ में ठहरने का कार्यक्रम था। इस हेतु गढ़डा से कोठारी भक्तिवल्लभ स्वामी ने भाई स्वामी को एक पत्र लिखा कि, “कुंवरजी जागाणी बहुत भले सत्संगी हैं, अतः उनकी अच्छी तरह से देखभाल कीजिएगा और उनका सत्कार रखिएगा।” वागड़ के हरिभक्तों ने कुंवरजी भाई को मंदिर में सुंदर विश्राम स्थल दिया और बड़े प्रेम से भोजन कराया।
कुंवरजी पटेल को हुक्का पीने का व्यसन था। जब वे मंदिर में भाई स्वामी के साथ सभा में बैठे थे, तब उन्होंने अपने साथ आए सेवक नाई को हुक्का सुलगाने के लिए बबूल की छाल या अंगारे लाने भेजा। सेवक ने जाकर हरिभक्तों से हुक्के के लिए सामग्री माँगी। यह सुनकर हरिभक्त आपस में कहने लगे, “गढ़डा से कोठारी स्वामी ने पत्र में लिखा है कि ये बहुत श्रेष्ठ हरिभक्त हैं और इनका पूरा आदर-सत्कार करना, पर ये तो हुक्के के पक्के व्यसनी निकले! जो सच्चे हरिभक्त होते हैं, क्या वे कभी हुक्के का व्यसन रखते हैं?”
यह बात कुंवरजी जागाणी के कानों में पड़ गई। उन्होंने मन ही मन विचार किया, “पत्र में तो कोठारी स्वामी ने मेरी इतनी प्रशंसा लिखी थी, परंतु इस दुष्ट हुक्के ने आज सबके सामने मुझे लज्जित और फजीहत कर दिया!” वे तुरंत सभा से उठे, मंदिर की सीढ़ियों पर जाकर हुक्के को जोर से पटक कर चकनाचूर कर दिया और अपने विश्राम कक्ष में चले गए।
रात्रि के समय कुंवरजी पटेल मंदिर के कमरे में सो रहे थे और उनका सेवक नाई उनके पैर दबा रहा था (पगचंपी कर रहा था)। आधी रात के समय भाई स्वामी लघुशंका के लिए उठे, तो उन्होंने सेवक को पैर दबाते हुए देखा। अगले दिन प्रातःकाल भाई स्वामी ने कुंवरजी पटेल को अपने समीप बुलाया और पूछा, “यह पैर दबवाने का क्या ढोंग है?”
कुंवरजी पटेल ने संकोच से कहा, “स्वामी! जब तक नाई मेरे पैर न दबाए, तब तक मुझे नींद ही नहीं आती।”
तब भाई स्वामी ने जीवन का मर्म समझाते हुए कहा, “कल सुबह यदि समय बदला और दिन फिर गए, और तुम्हारे पैर दबाने वाला कोई न रहा, तब तुम्हें नींद कैसे आएगी? क्या कभी इस बात का विचार किया है? मनुष्य को पराधीन नहीं, अपितु स्वावलंबी होना चाहिए।”
कुंवरजी जागाणी स्वामी के वचनों का गूढ़ रहस्य तुरंत समझ गए। उन्होंने उसी क्षण सेवक नाई को उसका पूरा खर्च व पारिश्रमिक देकर आदरपूर्वक घर वापस भेज दिया। वे पूरी तरह से निर्व्यसनी हो गए और हुक्का सदा के लिए छूट गया। साथ ही, पैर दबवाने जैसे ऐशो-आराम के जो भी व्यर्थ चोंचले थे, वे भी जीवनभर के लिए त्याग दिए। सद्गुरु भाई स्वामी की कृपा और आशीर्वाद से वे सच्चे अर्थों में सुखी और आत्मिक शांति से संपन्न हो गए।

Kunvarji Patel of Ingorala and the Teachings of Bhai Swami
Sadguru Bhayatmanand Swami (fondly known as ‘Bhai Swami’) resided mostly in the village of Vagad. On one occasion, Patel Kunvarji Jagani of Ingorala village was traveling on administrative business for the Vadodara princely state and planned to halt at Vagad along the way. Ahead of his visit, Kothari Bhaktivallabh Swami sent a letter from Gadhada to Bhai Swami stating, “Kunvarji Jagani is a devoted and noble satsangi; kindly ensure he is looked after well and extend warm hospitality to him.” When he arrived, the devotees at Vagad graciously accommodated Kunvarjibhai in the mandir premises and lovingly served him sanctified meals.
However, Kunvarji Patel had a deep habit of smoking the hookah. While sitting in the spiritual assembly alongside Swami, he sent his personal attendant, a barber, to fetch acacia bark or burning coals to light the hookah. The attendant went to the local devotees asking for the materials. Hearing this request, the devotees remarked among themselves, “From Gadhada, Kothari Swami wrote that he is an exemplary devotee deserving great hospitality, yet he turns out to be an incorrigible hookah addict! Can a true devotee of God ever remain bonded to a hookah?”
Kunvarji Jagani overheard these words, and a wave of introspection swept over him. He thought to himself, “In his letter, Kothari Swami praised me so generously, yet this wretched hookah has brought me shame and humiliation before everyone!” Determined, he immediately stood up, walked to the stone steps of the mandir, smashed the hookah to pieces, and retired to his room.
Later that night, as Kunvarji Patel lay resting in his quarters at the mandir, his attendant barber was pressing and massaging his legs. Around midnight, Bhai Swami woke up and noticed the attendant massaging his legs. The next morning, Bhai Swami called Kunvarji Patel to his side and asked, “What is the purpose of having your legs massaged like this?”
Kunvarji Patel replied sheepishly, “Swami, unless the barber massages my legs, sleep eludes me.”
Bhai Swami then imparted profound wisdom, saying, “If tomorrow circumstances change, times turn harsh, and there is no one left to massage your legs, how will you ever sleep? Have you ever contemplated that? A devotee should remain self-reliant and free from reliance on pampering luxuries.”
Kunvarji Jagani instantly understood the deep spiritual truth in Swami’s guidance. That very moment, he paid the barber his full wages along with traveling expenses and sent him back home. From that day onward, he became completely free of all addictions—renouncing the hookah forever—and completely abandoned luxurious dependencies like foot massages for the rest of his life. Through the divine blessings and spiritual guidance of Bhai Swami, he attained true inner peace, self-reliance, and enduring happiness.
