એકવખત સદગુરુ દેવાનંદ સ્વામી સત્સંગ વિચરણ મા ફરતા ફરતા ઝાલાવાડના એક ગામમાં ગયા. ગામના ચોરે પોતે ઉતારો કર્યો ને સાંજે રામજી મંદિરે આરતિ થઇ એટલે સ્વામીએ કથાવારતા ને ઉપદેશ ની વાતો કરી. ગામના મુમુક્ષુ લોકોને ગુણ આવ્યો એટલે રોક્યા. સ્વામી એકવખત જમે ને પોતે વૈરાગ્ય ને ઉપદેશ કિરતનો ની આહલેક જગાવે. ગામમાં દરરોજ સાંજે કથામાં સંખ્યા વધવા લાગી. ઘણા લોકોએ વ્યસન મુકીને વર્તમાન ધારણ કર્યા ને ઘણા સત્સંગી થયા. પંદર વીંહ દિવસ સ્વામી ત્યાં ગામમાં રોકાયા.
થોડાક દિવસ વિત્યે સ્વામી ત્યાંથી બીજે ગામ ચાલ્યા. એવામાં એક હરિભગતનો જુવાનજોધ છોકરો બીમાર પડ્યો ને એનો અંતકાળ નજીક આવ્યો. એ છોકરો પથારીમાં સુતો સુતો એની માંને બોલાવી ને કહે કે માં..! હુ અક્ષરધામમાં જાઉં છુ, મને શ્રીજી મહારાજની મુક્તિના દર્શન થાય છે ને આપડા ગુરુ દેવાનંદ સ્વામી પણ સાથે છે ને મને કેય છે કે ધામમાં આવવા સારુ થઇ જા તૈયાર, તને અમે મહારાજ સાથે ધામમાં તેડી જાવા આવ્યા છીએ. છોકરાની માં મમતાવશ થઇને બોલી કે તુ ગુરુદેવ દેવાનંદ સ્વામી કહે કે સ્વામી મારે હમણાં ધામમાં નથી આવવું. ત્યારે છોકરો કહે માં, આ સંસાર મા સુખ નથી, સર્વ સુખ તો મહારાજની મુર્તિ મા છે એટલે મારે તો હાલ જ ધામમાં જવુ છે. છોકરાની મા કહે કે ભલે બેટા, તને શ્રીજીમહારાજ તેડવા આવ્યા છે તો સુખેથી એમની સાથે ધામમાં જા, પણ આપણા ગુરુ દેવાનંદ સ્વામી હવે પાછા ગામમાં આવે ત્યારે તેની વાત છે કે મારા એકના એક દિકરાને ધામમાં તેડી જાતા શ્રીજીમહારાજને ના પણ પાડતા નથી.
છોકરો સહુ ને જય શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણ કહીને શ્રીજી મહારાજ અને દેવાનંદ સ્વામી સાથે અક્ષરધામમા ગયો.

झालावाड़ का युवक और देवानंद स्वामी का बुलावा
एक बार सद्गुरु देवानंद स्वामी सत्संग विचरण करते हुए झालावाड़ के एक गाँव में पधारे। उन्होंने गाँव के चौरे (चौपाल) पर अपना विश्राम स्थल बनाया। सायंकाल जब रामजी मंदिर में आरती संपन्न हुई, तब स्वामी ने भावपूर्ण कथा-वार्ता और आध्यात्मिक उपदेश दिया। गाँव के मुमुक्षु जनों को स्वामी की अलौकिक साधुता का गहरा प्रभाव पड़ा, अतः उन्होंने स्वामीजी से कुछ दिन और रुकने की करबद्ध प्रार्थना की।
स्वामी केवल एक समय ही आहार ग्रहण करते थे और अपनी ओजस्वी वाणी व वैराग्यपूर्ण कीर्तनों के माध्यम से लोगों के हृदयों में भक्ति की अलख जगाते थे। गाँव में प्रतिदिन सायंकालीन कथा में श्रोताओं की संख्या निरंतर बढ़ने लगी। स्वामी के दिव्य सत्संग से प्रेरित होकर कई लोगों ने व्यसन त्याग दिए, पंच वर्तमान धारण किए और निष्ठावान सत्संगी बन गए। इस प्रकार स्वामी उस गाँव में लगभग पंद्रह-बीस दिनों तक विराजे।
कुछ दिनों के उपरांत स्वामी उस गाँव से अन्य गाँव के लिए प्रस्थान कर गए। इसी बीच गाँव के एक अनन्य हरिभक्त का नवयुवक पुत्र अचानक गंभीर रूप से बीमार पड़ गया और उसका अंतकाल निकट आ पहुँचा। वह युवक खाट पर लेटे-लेटे अपनी माता को पुकार कर कहने लगा, “माँ! मैं अब परमधाम अक्षरधाम जा रहा हूँ। मुझे श्रीजी महाराज और उनके अनंत मुक्तों के साक्षात् दिव्य दर्शन हो रहे हैं! हमारे गुरु देवानंद स्वामी भी महाराज के साथ पधारे हैं और मुझसे कह रहे हैं—‘बेटा! धाम चलने के लिए तैयार हो जा, हम स्वयं श्रीजी महाराज के साथ तुझे अक्षरधाम ले जाने के लिए आए हैं!’”
पुत्र-मोह के वशीभूत होकर माता व्याकुल होकर बोली, “बेटा! तू गुरुदेव देवानंद स्वामी से प्रार्थना कर कि ‘स्वामी! मुझे अभी धाम नहीं जाना है।’” तब उस विवेकशील युवक ने कहा, “माँ! इस नश्वर संसार में कोई सच्चा सुख नहीं है। समस्त परमानंद तो केवल श्रीजी महाराज के स्वरूप में ही है, इसलिए मुझे तो इसी क्षण महाराज के साथ धाम जाना है।”
यह सुनकर माता ने मन को स्थिर किया और वात्सल्य भाव से कहा, “ठीक है मेरे लाल! यदि स्वयं श्रीजी महाराज तुझे बुलाने पधारे हैं, तो तू सहर्ष उनके साथ धाम जा। परंतु जब हमारे गुरु देवानंद स्वामी पुनः इस गाँव में पधारेंगे, तब मैं उनसे पूछूँगी कि वे श्रीजी महाराज को मेरे इकलौते पुत्र को धाम ले जाने से मना भी नहीं कर रहे हैं!”
अंत में वह दिव्य युवक सभी परिजनों को हाथ जोड़कर “जय श्री स्वामिनारायण” कहकर श्रीजी महाराज और सद्गुरु देवानंद स्वामी के साथ दिव्य अक्षरधाम को सिधार गया।

The Youth of Zalavad and the Divine Call of Devanand Swami
Once, while traveling for Satsang vicharan, Sadguru Devanand Swami arrived at a village in Zalavad. He took up lodging in the village square (choro). In the evening, after the sacred aarti at the Ramji temple, Swami delivered spiritual discourses (katha) and divine teachings. Deeply touched by his profound saintliness, the spiritual seekers (mumukshus) of the village requested him to stay longer.
Swami ate only once a day and awakened spiritual consciousness wherever he went through his sublime teachings and soul-stirring kirtans brimming with detachment (vairagya). Every evening, the gathering at the spiritual assembly continued to grow. Inspired by Swami’s saintly life and discourses, many villagers renounced harmful addictions, accepted the five sacred vows (vartaman), and embraced Satsang. Swami sanctified that village by staying there for about fifteen to twenty days.
A few days after Swami departed for another village, a young, vibrant son of a devoted devotee suddenly fell critically ill, and his final moments drew near. Lying on his bed, the youth called out to his mother and said, “Mother! I am departing for Akshardham! I behold the divine darshan of Shriji Maharaj and His liberated souls (muktas). Our gurudev, Devanand Swami, is also present right beside Him! Swami is telling me, ‘Dear child, get ready to come to the divine abode; we have accompanied Maharaj to take you to Akshardham!’”
Overcome by maternal attachment, the mother cried out anxiously, “Son, pray to Gurudev Devanand Swami: ‘Swami, I do not wish to go to the abode right now!’” The spiritually enlightened youth replied, “Mother, there is no real happiness in this fleeting mortal world. All supreme peace and divine bliss reside solely in the holy murti of Maharaj. Therefore, I wish to depart for Akshardham this very instant.”
Surrendering to the divine will, the mother said with deep devotion, “Very well, my son. If Shriji Maharaj Himself has come to take you, go with Him happily to the divine abode. But when our guru Devanand Swami visits our village again, I shall surely ask him why he did not even try to stop Shriji Maharaj from taking away my only son!”
Offering his humble salutations and greeting everyone with “Jai Swaminarayan,” the blessed youth departed for Akshardham along with Shriji Maharaj and Sadguru Devanand Swami.
