એક પાટીદાર મુમુક્ષુ પોતાની પાંચસો રૂપિયાની મૂડી સાથે નદીના પટમાંથી પસાર થતા હતા ત્યારે ચાર ઘાતકી લૂંટારાઓએ તેમને લૂંટવા ઘેરી લીધા.

રામાનુજાનંદ સ્વામીની લૂંટારાઓથી રક્ષા, દીક્ષા અને લતિપુરના નરોત્તમ પટેલ પર કૃપા
એક વખત એક પાટીદાર મુમુક્ષુ પોતાની પાંચસો રૂપિયાની જીવનભરની કમાણી સાથે સૂમસામ નદીના પટમાંથી પસાર થઈ રહ્યા હતા. તે સમયે ચાર ઘાતકી લૂંટારાઓ તેમની પાછળ પડ્યા. લૂંટારાઓને નજીક આવતા જોઈ તે પાટીદાર જીવ બચાવવા દોડ્યા, પણ ચારેય લૂંટારાઓએ તેમને નદીના પટમાં ઘેરી લીધા.
આ ભયાનક આપત્કાળ વેળાએ મુમુક્ષુ પાટીદારને ભગવાન યાદ આવ્યા! તેમણે અગાઉ કોઈના મુખેથી સાંભળેલું કે, “હાલ આ પૃથ્વી પર સાક્ષાત્ ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણ પ્રગટ છે, જે પોતાના આશ્રિત ભક્તોની સર્વ આપત્તિઓમાંથી રક્ષા કરે છે!” મરણતોલ સંકટમાં મુકાયેલા પાટીદારે નદીના પટમાં બે હાથ ઊંચા કરી આર્તનાદ કર્યો: “હે પ્રભુ! હે સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન! જો આપ સાચે જ આ પૃથ્વી પર પ્રગટ ભગવાન હો, તો આ ખરા ટાણે મને આ ઘાતકી લૂંટારાઓથી બચાવો! મારી પાસે આ જે પાંચસો રૂપિયાની મૂડી છે, તે આપ રાજી થાઓ તેમ આપના ચરણોમાં વાપરી નાખીશ!”
હજુ તો લૂંટારાઓએ તેમને પકડી ધોલધપાટ કરી તલવાર ઉગામી કહ્યું, “જે કંઈ રૂપિયા હોય તે આપી દે નહીંતર હમણાં જ તારું માથું વાઢી નાખીશું!” ત્યાં જ એક ચમત્કાર થયો! માણેકવરણી માણકી ઘોડી પર સવાર થઈ, પોતાના વીસ શૂરવીર પાર્ષદો સાથે સાક્ષાત્ શ્રીજીમહારાજ વાયુવેગે ત્યાં પ્રગટ થયા! પ્રભુએ આવીને લૂંટારાઓને ભગાડી તે મુમુક્ષુ પાટીદારની રક્ષા કરી.
ઘોડેસવારોની વચ્ચે બિરાજતા, ત્રણ છોગલાંવાળી પાઘ ધારણ કરેલા દિવ્ય તેજોમય અસવારને જોઈ પાટીદારે હાથ જોડી પૂછ્યું: “હે દેવસ્વરૂપ અસવાર! ખરા ટાણે મારો જીવ બચાવનારા આપ કોણ છો?” શ્રીહરિએ સ્મિત કરતાં કહ્યું: “ભાઈ! તેં હમણાં જ નદીના પટમાં અમને પોકાર્યા ને, કે ‘હે સ્વામિનારાયણ! જો તમે સાચા ભગવાન હો તો મારી રક્ષા કરો!’ તારો એ આર્તનાદ સાંભળીને અમે વડતાલ હતા ત્યાંથી તત્કાળ તારી વહારે આવ્યા છીએ!”
પાટીદારના અંતરમાં દ્રઢ નિશ્ચય થઈ ગયો: “જે સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાનને એકવાર પોકારતાં જ મને મોતના મુખમાંથી ઉગારી લીધો, જો હું તેમનો આશ્રય સ્વીકારી લઉં તો તેઓ મને સંસારના જન્મ-મરણના ફેરામાંથી સદાને માટે મુક્ત કરી દેશે!” તેઓ વડતાલ પહોંચ્યા અને શ્રીહરિનાં ચરણોમાં સાષ્ટાંગ નમ્યા. શ્રીહરિએ હસીને કહ્યું: “લાવો પેલા પાંચસો રૂપિયા!” પાટીદારે પાંચસો રૂપિયા પ્રભુના ચરણોમાં મૂકી દીધા અને હાથ જોડી બોલ્યા: “હે મહારાજ! આ ધન આપને અર્પણ છે; હવે મને આપના ચરણે રાખી સાધુ બનાવો!” શ્રીહરિએ તેમને મહાભાગવતી દીક્ષા આપી ‘સદગુરુ રામાનુજાનંદ સ્વામી’ નામ રાખ્યું.
સમય જતાં રામાનુજાનંદ સ્વામી સૌરાષ્ટ્રના લતિપુર ગામે મંદિર બંધાવતા હતા. એક દિવસ તેમણે કોઠારીને કહ્યું કે સાધુઓની ઝોળીઓ ટીંગાડવા માટે સારી લાકડાની ખીંટીઓ લાવી આપો. કોઠારીએ સસ્તી ખીંટીઓ લાવી આપી, એટલે સ્વામીએ નરોત્તમ પટેલ નામના એક ગરીબ હરિભક્તને બોલાવી કહ્યું: “નરોત્તમ! તું સુતારની કોઢેથી સારી મજબૂત ખીંટીઓ લાવી આપ!” નરોત્તમે લાચારીથી કહ્યું: “સ્વામી! મારી પાસે એક પૈસોય નથી, હું ખીંટીઓ ક્યાંથી લાવું?”
અંતર્યામી રામાનુજાનંદ સ્વામીએ તેના મનનો ગુપ્ત વિચાર જાણીને કહ્યું: “નરોત્તમ! પાઘડીના છેડે બે રૂપિયા સંતાડીને, અફીણ ઘોળીને આપઘાત કરવા તૈયાર થયો છે, એના કરતાં એ બે રૂપિયા ભગવાન અને સંતોની સેવામાં વાપર ને! શ્રીહરિ તારું ભલું કરશે!” આ સાંભળી નરોત્તમ પટેલ સ્વામીના ચરણોમાં ઢળી પડી ધ્રૂસકે ધ્રૂસકે રડી પડ્યા: “બાપજી! સંસારની આર્થિક વિટંબણાઓથી કંટાળીને હું આજે જ ઝેર પીને મરવા જતો હતો! આપે મારા મનની વાત જાણી મને ખરે ટાણે બચાવી લીધો!”
નરોત્તમ પટેલે તુરંત પોતાની પાઘડીમાંથી બે રૂપિયા કાઢી સુતાર પાસે જઈ એકતાળીસ સુંદર ખીંટીઓ કરાવી સ્વામીના ચરણોમાં ધરી દીધી. રામાનુજાનંદ સ્વામી અતિ પ્રસન્ન થયા અને આશીર્વાદ આપ્યા: “નરોત્તમ! તેં પ્રેમથી એકતાળીસ ખીંટીઓ આપી છે, માટે એક ખીંટીએ શ્રીહરિ તને એક-એક હજાર રૂપિયા આપશે!” સ્વામીના વચને થોડા જ સમયમાં નરોત્તમ પટેલ લાખોપતિ બન્યા અને મહાન સત્સંગી થયા.
રામાનુજાનંદ સ્વામી મોટાભાગે જૂનાગઢમાં સદગુરુ ગુણાતીતાનંદ સ્વામી સાથે રહેતા અને ત્યાં જ શ્રીહરિના ધામમાં સિધાવ્યા.

रामानुजानंद स्वामी की डाकुओं से रक्षा, दीक्षा और लतिपुर के नरोत्तम पटेल पर कृपा
एक समय एक पाटीदार मुमुक्षु अपनी पाँच सौ रुपये की जीवनभर की पूँजी लेकर एक निर्जन सूखी नदी के पाट से गुजर रहे थे। उसी समय चार कुख्यात डाकू उनके पीछे लग गए। डाकुओं को आता देख वह पाटीदार प्राण बचाने हेतु भागे, किंतु चारों डाकुओं ने उन्हें नदी के रेत में घेर लिया।
इस घोर संकट की घड़ी में मुमुक्षु पाटीदार को परमात्मा का स्मरण हुआ! उन्होंने किसी सत्संगी के मुख से सुना था कि, “वर्तमान में इस पृथ्वी पर भगवान स्वामीनारायण साक्षात् प्रकट हैं, जो अपने शरणागत भक्तों की समस्त संकटों से रक्षा करते हैं!” मृत्यु को सम्मुख देखकर पाटीदार ने दोनों हाथ उठाकर आर्तभाव से पुकारा: “हे प्रभु! हे स्वामीनारायण भगवान! यदि आप सचमुच इस पृथ्वी पर प्रकट परमात्मा हैं, तो इस संकट के समय मेरी इन डाकुओं से रक्षा कीजिए! मेरे पास यह जो पाँच सौ रुपये की पूँजी है, वह मैं आपके चरणों में अर्पित कर दूँगा!”
डाकुओं ने उन्हें पकड़कर पीटना शुरू किया और तलवार तानकर कहा, “जो कुछ धन है दे दे, अन्यथा अभी तेरा सिर धड़ से अलग कर देंगे!” ठीक उसी क्षण एक चमत्कार हुआ! मानकी घोड़ी पर सवार होकर, अपने बीस शूरवीर पार्षदों सहित साक्षात् श्रीजी महाराज बिजली की गति से वहाँ प्रकट हो गए! प्रभु ने डाकुओं को भगाकर उस पाटीदार की रक्षा की।
घुड़सवारों के मध्य विराजमान, तीन तुर्रों वाली पाग पहने दिव्य तेजोमय सवार को देखकर पाटीदार ने करबद्ध पूछा: “हे दयालु सवार! इस संकट में मेरे प्राण बचाने वाले आप कौन हैं?” श्रीहरि ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा: “भाई! तुमने अभी-अभी नदी में हमें पुकारा था कि ‘हे स्वामीनारायण! यदि आप सच्चे भगवान हैं तो मेरी रक्षा कीजिए!’ तुम्हारी वह पुकार सुनकर हम वडताल से तत्काल तुम्हारी रक्षा हेतु दौड़े आए हैं!”
पाटीदार के हृदय में अखंड निश्चय हो गया: “जिन स्वामीनारायण भगवान को एक बार पुकारने मात्र से मुझे मृत्यु के मुख से बचा लिया, यदि मैं उनका शरणागत हो जाऊँ तो वे मुझे जन्म-मरण के चक्र से सदा के लिए मुक्त कर देंगे!” वे वडताल पहुँचे और श्रीहरि के चरणों में गिर पड़े। श्रीहरि ने हंसते हुए कहा: “लाओ वे पाँच सौ रुपये!” पाटीदार ने वे रुपये प्रभु के चरणों में रख दिए और बोले: “हे प्रभु! यह धन आपका है; अब मुझे अपने चरणों में रखकर संन्यासी बना लीजिए!” श्रीहरि ने उन्हें भागवती दीक्षा देकर ‘सद्गुरु रामानुजानंद स्वामी’ नाम दिया।
कालांतर में रामानुजानंद स्वामी सौराष्ट्र के लतिपुर गाँव में मंदिर का निर्माण करवा रहे थे। एक दिन उन्होंने कोठारी से कहा कि संतों की झोलियाँ टांगने हेतु अच्छी खूंटियाँ लाकर दो। कोठारी ने सस्ती और साधारण खूंटियाँ लाकर दीं, अतः स्वामी ने नरोत्तम पटेल नामक एक निर्धन भक्त से कहा: “नरोत्तम! तुम बढ़ई की दुकान से अच्छी मजबूत खूंटियाँ लाकर दो!” नरोत्तम ने दीनता से कहा: “स्वामी! मेरे पास एक कौड़ी भी नहीं है, मैं खूंटियाँ कहाँ से लाऊँ?”
अंतर्यामी रामानुजानंद स्वामी ने उसके अंतर्मन का गुप्त विचार जानकर कहा: “नरोत्तम! पगड़ी के छोर में दो रुपये छिपाकर, अफ़ीम घोलकर आत्महत्या करने जा रहा है, उससे तो अच्छा है कि वे दो रुपये भगवान और संतों की सेवा में लगा दे! श्रीहरि तुम्हारा कल्याण करेंगे!” यह सुनते ही नरोत्तम पटेल स्वामी के चरणों में गिरकर फूट-फूटकर रोने लगे: “बापजी! सांसारिक विपन्नता से तंग आकर मैं आज विष पीकर मरने जा रहा था! आपने मेरे मन की बात जानकर मुझे अंतिम समय में बचा लिया!”
नरोत्तम पटेल ने तुरंत पगड़ी से दो रुपये निकाले और बढ़ई से एकतालीस सुंदर मजबूत खूंटियाँ बनवाकर स्वामी के चरणों में अर्पित कर दीं। रामानुजानंद स्वामी अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए और आशीर्वाद दिया: “नरोत्तम! तुमने एकतालीस खूंटियाँ दी हैं, अतः प्रत्येक खूंटी के बदले श्रीहरि तुम्हें एक-एक हजार रुपये की संपत्ति प्रदान करेंगे!” स्वामी के आशीर्वाद से कुछ ही समय में नरोत्तम पटेल लखपति बन गए और महान भक्त हुए।
रामानुजानंद स्वामी अधिकांशतः जूनागढ़ में सद्गुरु गुणातीतानंद स्वामी के साथ रहे और जूनागढ़ में ही अक्षरधाम सिधारे।

Sadguru Ramanujanand Swami: Rescued from Bandits, Ascetic Initiation, and Grace upon Narottam Patel of Latipur
Once, a sincere Patidar seeker was journeying through a barren, dry riverbed carrying his life savings of five hundred rupees. Suddenly, four ruthless bandits pursued him. Seeing them draw close with drawn weapons, the traveler ran for his life, but the bandits cornered him in the desolate sands.
Facing certain death, the seeker remembered God! He had once heard from a passing pilgrim: “Presently, Bhagwan Swaminarayan is manifest upon this earth, protecting all who seek His holy refuge from every calamity!” Facing imminent peril, the Patidar raised both hands skyward and cried out with heartfelt desperation: “O Lord! O Bhagwan Swaminarayan! If Thou art truly the living God on earth, protect me from these murderous thieves this very instant! The five hundred rupees I carry shall be surrendered entirely at Thy lotus feet!”
Just as the bandits seized him, beating him and raising a sword to sever his neck, a miracle unfolded! Astride His famous mare Manki, accompanied by twenty valiant attendants on horseback, Bhagwan Swaminarayan materialized like a lightning flash! Overawed by this divine force, the bandits fled in terror, and the traveler was saved.
Gazing upon the resplendent Rider wearing a three-tasseled royal turban amidst His horsemen, the astonished Patidar asked: “O divine Rider! Who art Thou who hast snatched me from the jaws of death?” Shreehari smiled warmly: “Brother! Did you not just cry out in the riverbed: ‘O Swaminarayan, if Thou art true God, save me!’ Hearing your desperate prayer, We rushed immediately from Vadtal to your rescue!”
A wave of supreme realization swept over the traveler: “If calling upon Bhagwan Swaminarayan once can deliver me from physical death, seeking His permanent refuge will liberate my soul from the eternal cycle of transmigration!” Traveling to Vadtal, he prostrated at Shreehari’s lotus feet. Smiling knowingly, Shreehari asked: “Hand over those five hundred rupees!” Laying the coins at Maharaj’s feet, he pleaded: “O Lord! This wealth is Thine; now accept me at Thy holy feet and initiate me as an ascetic!” Shreehari initiated him into the supreme ascetic order, naming him ‘Sadguru Ramanujanand Swami’.
Years later, while supervising the construction of a temple in Latipur, Ramanujanand Swami requested the manager to procure sturdy wooden pegs for hanging the sants’ scripture pouches. When cheap pegs were provided, Swami turned to a poor devotee named Narottam Patel: “Narottam, go bring some fine wooden pegs from the carpenter!” Narottam replied dejectedly: “Swami, I do not possess a single copper coin; whence shall I buy pegs?”
Knowing his innermost despair through divine insight, Ramanujanand Swami revealed: “Narottam! Rather than mixing poison with the two silver rupees hidden in the folds of your turban to commit suicide, spend those two coins in the sacred service of God and His sants! Shreehari will shower abundance upon you!” Stunned that Swami had read his darkest secret, Narottam collapsed at Swami’s feet, weeping bitterly: “O holy Gurudev! Tormented by debt and worldly misery, I was heading to end my life today! Thou hast perceived my agony and pulled me back from the brink of suicide!”
Unwrapping the two rupees from his turban, Narottam purchased forty-one sturdy wooden pegs from the carpenter and offered them to Swami. Deeply pleased, Ramanujanand Swami blessed him: “Narottam! For each of the forty-one pegs you offered, Shreehari shall bless you with one thousand rupees!” Through Swami’s infallible benediction, Narottam Patel soon flourished into a wealthy and devout philanthropist.
Sadguru Ramanujanand Swami spent most of his later life in Junagadh alongside Sadguru Gunatitanand Swami, eventually departing for Akshardham from Junagadh.
