એકવખત શ્રીહરિ ઝાલાવાડના ઐતિહાસિક વઢવાણ નગરે પધાર્યા. સંતોના વિચરણના યોગે સત્સંગી થયેલા બ્રાહ્મણ હરિભક્ત તુલસીદાસ દવેએ પોતાની માઢ-મેડીએ ઝરૂખામાં શ્રીહરિ અને સંતોનો ઉતારો કરાવ્યો.

એકવખત શ્રીહરિ ઝાલાવાડના ઐતિહાસિક વઢવાણ નગરે પધાર્યા. સંતોના વિચરણના યોગે સત્સંગી થયેલા બ્રાહ્મણ હરિભક્ત તુલસીદાસ દવેએ ભાવપૂર્વક પોતાની માઢ-મેડીએ ઝરૂખામાં શ્રીહરિ અને સંતોનો ઉતારો કરાવ્યો. શ્રીહરિ માટે મોટો ઢોલિયો ઢળાવી, ગાદી-તકિયા નંખાવી બેસાડ્યા. જળ ધરાવી, ચંદન-અર્ચન કરી આરતી ઉતારી. ઘરના સર્વે પુરુષોએ શ્રીહરિને સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત્ પ્રણામ કર્યા અને સ્ત્રીઓએ દૂરથી પંચાંગ પ્રણામ કર્યા. સંતોને પણ ઉતારાની ઉત્તમ સગવડ કરી આપી.
ભક્ત તુલસીદાસ દવેએ હાથ જોડી પ્રાર્થના કરી: “હે મહારાજ! ગામમાં ઘણા મુમુક્ષુઓ છે; આજે આપ સાક્ષાત્ પ્રગટ પધાર્યા છો, તો સૌને આપનાં અલૌકિક દર્શનનો લાભ મળશે.” શ્રીહરિ પોતાના ભક્તનો આવો પરોપકારી ભાવ જોઈ અત્યંત રાજી થયા. ગામમાંથી સ્ત્રી-પુરુષો, બાળકો અને વૃદ્ધો સૌ તુલસીદાસ ગોરને ઘેર સાક્ષાત્ સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન પધાર્યા છે એ જાણી દોડી આવ્યા અને થોડે છેટે ઊભા રહી દર્શન કરવા લાગ્યા.
શ્રીહરિ મેડીએથી નીચે ઊતર્યા અને ડેલી પાસે પગથિયાં કને બાંધેલી એક નાની ઓટલી પર ઊભા રહ્યા. શ્રીહરિ જ્યાં ઊભા હતા તે ઓટલીની બરાબર સામે, રસ્તાને પેલે પાર સામી ડેલીવાળા પટેલની ડેલી પાસે પણ એક ઓટલી હતી. બંને ઓટલીઓ વચ્ચે આઠ ગજ (લગભગ ૨૪ ફૂટ) પહોળો ગામનો વચલો રસ્તો હતો. શ્રીહરિએ કશોય આધાર લીધા વિના, સહજભાવે જ આ ઓટલી પરથી કૂદકો મારીને સામે કાંઠે પટેલની ડેલીવાળી ઓટલી પર પહોંચી ગયા!
આઠ ગજ પહોળા રસ્તાને હવામાં પક્ષીની જેમ ઓળંગી જતાં જોઈ સમસ્ત ગામજનોના આશ્ચર્યનો પાર ન રહ્યો! સૌના અંતરમાં અચળ નિશ્ચય થઈ ગયો કે આ કોઈ સામાન્ય સાધુ નથી, સાક્ષાત્ સર્વશક્તિમાન પૂર્ણ પુરુષોત્તમ નારાયણ છે! અનેક મુમુક્ષુઓએ તે જ ઘડીએ કંઠી-વર્તમાન ધારણ કરી સત્સંગ સ્વીકાર્યો. ત્યારબાદ મોટી સભા ભરાઈ.
હરિભક્ત તુલસીદાસ દવેએ નમ્રતાથી અરજ કરી: “હે મહારાજ! આપે ડભાણમાં મોટો યજ્ઞ કર્યો હતો, તેમ આ વઢવાણમાં પણ એક ભવ્ય વિષ્ણુયાગ યજ્ઞ કરો, જેથી આખા ઝાલાવાડને આપનાં દર્શન અને સેવા-લાભનું સુખ મળે!” શ્રીહરિએ અનુમતિ આપી. ગામમાં યજ્ઞની વાત વાયુવેગે ફેલાઈ ગઈ.
તે સમયે વઢવાણના એક મોટા મઠમાં મહંત પ્રભાતગર નામે એક દ્વેષી અને અડબંગ બાવો રહેતો હતો. એ જમાનામાં પ્રભાતગર દસ-બાર લાખ રૂપિયાનો આસામી હતો! નગરમાં તમામ ધાર્મિક નિર્ણયો અને ઉત્સવોમાં તેની જ આણ પ્રવર્તતી હતી. પોતાના સ્વાર્થ ખાતર તે બીજા કોઈને નગરમાં પગપેસારો કરવા દેતો નહોતો. જ્યારે તેણે સાંભળ્યું કે સ્વામિનારાયણ અહીં મહાયજ્ઞ કરવાના છે, ત્યારે તેના પેટમાં તેલ રેડાયું.
શ્રીહરિએ લોકમર્યાદા ખાતર તેને કહેણ મોકલાવ્યું કે, “અમારે વઢવાણમાં મોટો વિષ્ણુયાગ યજ્ઞ કરવો છે, આપની સંમતિ જણાવશો.” અભિમાનથી અંધ બનેલો મહંત પ્રભાતગર ભભૂકી ઊઠ્યો: “મારા જીવતેજીવ આ વઢવાણમાં સ્વામિનારાયણનો યજ્ઞ ક્યારેય નહીં થવા દઉં!” એમ કહી તેણે આડોડાઈ કરી યજ્ઞનો સખ્ત વિરોધ કર્યો.
શ્રીહરિ એક દિવસ રોકાઈને વિદાય થવા તૈયાર થયા. તુલસીદાસ દવે ગામની ભાગોળ સુધી વળાવવા આવ્યા અને પ્રભુના ચરણોમાં નમતાં તેમની આંખો ભરાઈ આવી. શ્રીહરિએ પોતાના પ્રેમી ભક્તની પીઠ થાબડી દિલાસો આપતાં કહ્યું: “તુલસીદાસ! જરાય ચિંતા ન કરશો, આનંદમાં રહો! અમારો યજ્ઞ અહીં નહીં થાય તો કંઈ નહીં; હવે આ મહંતના લોહીનો યજ્ઞ અહીં થશે!”
શ્રીહરિ સંતો સાથે ત્યાંથી ઝાલાવાડના અન્ય ગામોમાં પધારી ગયા. થોડા જ દિવસો વીત્યા ત્યાં મહંતના શિષ્યો વચ્ચે મહંતના લાખો રૂપિયાના ધન અને ગાદીના વારસા બાબતે આંતરિક ખૂની સંઘર્ષ ફાટી નીકળ્યો! સંપત્તિના લોભમાં અંધ બનેલા શિષ્યોએ તલવારો ઉગામી અને પોતાના જ ગુરુ પ્રભાતગર મહંતના ટુકડે-ટુકડા કરી નાખ્યા! પ્રભુના દ્રોહનું ફળ પ્રભાતગરને પ્રત્યક્ષ ભોગવવું પડ્યું.

वढवाण में तुलसीदास दवे के घर आठ गज की छलांग और द्वेषी महंत प्रभातगर का परिणाम
एक समय श्रीहरि झालावाड़ के ऐतिहासिक वढवाण नगर में पधारे। संतों के सत्संग प्रभाव से निष्ठावान बने ब्राह्मण भक्त तुलसीदास दवे ने परम भाव से अपने हवेलीनुमा मकान के झरोखे में श्रीहरि और संतों को ठहराया। श्रीहरि के लिए सुंदर पलंग बिछाया गया, गद्दे-तकिए लगाए गए। जल-पूजन कर आरती उतारी गई। परिवार के समस्त पुरुषों ने साष्टांग दंडवत किए और महिलाओं ने दूर से पंचांग प्रणाम किया। संतों के लिए भी उत्तम व्यवस्था की गई।
भक्त तुलसीदास दवे ने करबद्ध प्रार्थना की: “हे महाराज! नगर में अनेक जिज्ञासु मुमुक्षु जन हैं; आज आप साक्षात् पधारे हैं, अतः सबको आपके अलौकिक दर्शन का लाभ मिलेगा।” श्रीहरि अपने भक्त की ऐसी परोपकारी भावना देखकर अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए। गाँव के आबालवृद्ध सब तुलसीदास गोर के घर भगवान स्वामीनारायण के पधारने का समाचार पाकर दर्शन हेतु उमड़ पड़े।
श्रीहरि हवेली से नीचे उतरे और मुख्य द्वार की सीढ़ियों के पास बनी एक छोटी चबूतरी (ओटली) पर खड़े रहे। ठीक उसी के सामने, सड़क के उस पार एक पाटीदार के घर की चबूतरी थी। दोनों चबूतरी के बीच आठ गज (लगभग चौबीस फीट) चौड़ा गाँव का मुख्य मार्ग था। श्रीहरि ने बिना किसी सहारे के, अत्यंत सहजता से इस चबूतरी से एक लंबी छलांग लगाई और सीधे मार्ग के उस पार पटेल की चबूतरी पर जा पहुँचे!
आठ गज चौड़े मार्ग को एक ही छलांग में पक्षी की भाँति लांघते देख सभी नगरवासी विस्मय से स्तब्ध रह गए! सबके अंतःकरण में अटल निश्चय हो गया कि ये कोई साधारण संत नहीं, साक्षात् सर्वसमर्थ पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम परमात्मा हैं! अनेक मुमुक्षुओं ने तत्काल कंठी और वर्तमान धारण कर सत्संग की शरण ली। इसके उपरांत विशाल सभा आयोजित हुई।
तुलसीदास दवे ने प्रार्थना की: “हे महाराज! जैसे आपने डभाण में विशाल यज्ञ किया था, वैसे ही इस वढवाण में भी एक भव्य महायज्ञ का आयोजन कीजिए!” श्रीहरि ने स्वीकृति दी और यज्ञ का समाचार नगर में दावानल की भाँति फैल गया।
उस समय वढवाण के एक विशाल मठ में प्रभातगर नामक एक अत्यंत हठी, अहंकारी और द्वेषी महंत रहता था। उस युग में प्रभातगर दस-बारह लाख रुपये की विशाल संपत्ति का स्वामी था! नगर के समस्त धार्मिक आयोजनों में उसी की सत्ता चलती थी। अपने स्वार्थ और वर्चस्व के कारण वह किसी अन्य साधु को नगर में टिकने नहीं देता था। जब उसने सुना कि स्वामीनारायण यहाँ महायज्ञ करने वाले हैं, तो ईर्ष्या से उसकी छाती जलने लगी।
श्रीहरि ने लोकाचार के नाते संदेश भिजवाया: “हम वढवाण में एक विशाल विष्णुयाग यज्ञ करना चाहते हैं, आप अपनी सहमति प्रदान करें।” अहंकार में चूर महंत प्रभातगर गरज उठा: “मेरे जीते-जी इस वढवाण नगर में स्वामीनारायण का यज्ञ कदापि नहीं हो सकता!” ऐसा कहकर उसने यज्ञ का घोर विरोध किया।
श्रीहरि एक दिन ठहरकर प्रस्थान करने लगे। तुलसीदास दवे नगर की सीमा तक विदा करने आए और प्रभु के चरणों में गिरकर दुःखी होने लगे। श्रीहरि ने अपने अनन्य भक्त को सांत्वना देते हुए कहा: “तुलसीदास! तनिक भी चिंता मत कीजिए; यदि हमारा यज्ञ यहाँ नहीं होगा, तो अब इस महंत के रक्त का यज्ञ यहाँ अवश्य होगा!”
श्रीहरि संतों सहित झालावाड़ के अन्य गाँवों में पधार गए। कुछ ही दिन बीते थे कि उस महंत की विपुल संपत्ति और गद्दी के अधिकार को लेकर उसके अपने शिष्यों में भीषण कलह भड़क उठी! धन के लोभ में अंधे हुए शिष्यों ने तलवारें खींच लीं और अपने ही गुरु प्रभातगर महंत के टुकड़े-टुकड़े कर दिए! परमात्मा के साथ किए गए घोर द्रोह का फल उस दुराचारी महंत को तत्काल भुगतना पड़ा।

Shrihari in Wadhwan: Leaping Across Eight Yards and the Tragic Fate of Hostile Mahant Prabhatgar
Once, Shreeji Maharaj graced the historic city of Wadhwan in Jhalawad. Tulsidas Dave, a pious Brahmin who had embraced the fellowship through the spiritual association of traveling saints, lovingly hosted Shreehari and His holy retinue in the upper balcony apartment of his mansion. He arranged a soft cot with silk cushions, performed the ritual welcoming worship, and waved the sacred aarti. All the men of the family prostrated themselves, while the women bowed reverently from a respectful distance.
With folded hands, Tulsidas Dave pleaded: “O Maharaj! There are countless earnest spiritual seekers in this town; today, since Thou hast arrived in person, they shall all be blessed by Thy divine sight.” Delighted by his devotee’s selfless concern for others’ salvation, Shreehari smiled warmly. Hearing that Bhagwan Swaminarayan had arrived at Tulsidas Gor’s residence, townsfolk of all ages rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of the divine Master.
Stepping down from the upper story, Shreehari stood upon a small masonry platform beside the entrance threshold. Directly across the busy village street stood another raised platform fronting a farmer’s courtyard. Between the two platforms lay an open thoroughfare measuring eight gaz (approximately twenty-four feet) across! Without taking any running stride or using any support, Shreehari casually leaped across the entire street through the air like a soaring bird, landing gracefully on the opposite platform!
Seeing the Lord bridge twenty-four feet in a single effortless jump, the entire crowd gasped in profound wonder! All doubts dissolved instantly, replaced by absolute conviction that this was no ordinary mortal, but manifest Purna Purushottam Narayan Himself! Countless seekers accepted the sacred rosary and vows on the spot.
Later, in the spiritual assembly, Tulsidas Dave prayed: “O Lord! Just as Thou didst conduct the grand Vishnu-Yajna in Dabhan, kindly orchestrate a magnificent scriptural sacrifice here in Wadhwan so that the entire region may rejoice in Thy service!” Shreehari gave His assent, and the joyous news spread throughout Wadhwan.
However, in a prominent monastery of Wadhwan resided an arrogant, hostile ascetic named Mahant Prabhatgar. In those days, Prabhatgar wielded colossal financial power, commanding an immense fortune of ten to twelve lakh rupees! He monopolized all religious festivals and refused to allow any other spiritual tradition to take root. Hearing that Bhagwan Swaminarayan was preparing to hold a historic Vedic sacrifice, his heart burned with furious jealousy.
As a matter of courtesy, Shreehari sent word to him: “We intend to conduct a grand Vishnu-Yajna in Wadhwan; please extend your goodwill and consent.” Blinded by haughty pride, Mahant Prabhatgar roared maliciously: “Never while I draw breath shall Swaminarayan’s sacrifice take place in this town!” And he adamantly obstructed the celebration.
After a day’s stay, Shreehari prepared to depart. Tulsidas Dave accompanied Him to the village boundary, his eyes filled with sorrowful tears. Patting His faithful disciple on the back, Shreehari consoled him with prophetic words: “Tulsidas! Worry not in the least; remain in bliss! If Our scriptural yajna cannot be performed here, then very soon a bloody sacrifice of this wicked mahant shall occur in this town!”
Shreehari departed to bless other towns of Jhalawad. Only a few days elapsed before a deadly internal war erupted among the mahant’s own disciples over his millions in accumulated gold and monastery leadership! Consumed by greed, the disciples drew their swords and slaughtered their own master Prabhatgar, butchering him into pieces! Thus, the malicious adversary paid with his life for his hostility against the Supreme Lord.
