રેફડાના ઓરજાંગભાઈ કાઠીની રાજસભામાં ખુમારી અને અંતકાળે શ્રીહરિની કૃપા
સારંગપુર પાસે આવેલા રેફડા ગામના શૂરવીર કાઠી દરબાર ઓરજાંગભાઈ કોઈ રાજકીય કામસર ભાવનગરના મહારાજા વજેસિંહ બાપુના દરબારમાં ગયા હતા. વાતચીત દરમિયાન રાજા વજેસિંહે સહજ મશ્કરી કરતાં કહ્યું, “ઓરજાંગભાઈ! હવે તો તમારા શરીરે ઘરડપણ આવી ગયું લાગે છે!” ત્યારે ક્ષત્રિય ખુમારીથી છલકાતા ઓરજાંગભાઈ બોલ્યા: “દરબાર! હજી તો મારામાં જરાય ઘડપણ આવ્યું નથી; તમે કહો તો જૂનાગઢ અને જામનગરનાં રાજ્યો આજેય જીતી લાવું! આખા ગુજરાતમાં મારી સામે બાથ ભીડે એવો કોઈ બળિયો પેદા થયો નથી!”
આવી શૌર્યભરી વાતો ચાલતી હતી તે વખતે રાજા વજેસિંહે મર્મમાં શંકાસ્પદ વચન ઉચ્ચાર્યું: “ગઢડામાં સ્વામિનારાયણ તો એભલબાપુની જુવાન દીકરીઓ ભેળા રહે છે, તો ત્યાં ધર્મ કઈ રીતે રહેતો હશે?” આ સાંભળતાં જ ઓરજાંગભાઈની આંખો લાલ થઈ ગઈ! તેમણે નિર્ભય થઈ રાજાને રોકતાં કહ્યું: “દરબાર! આપ પ્રજાના રાજા થઈને આવું કલંકિત અને અધર્મી વચન મુખમાંથી ક્યારેય ન બોલશો! સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન જ્યારે જ્યારે સારંગપુરમાં પધારે છે ત્યારે ત્યારે હું તેમનાં અને તેમના ત્યાગી સંતોનાં દર્શન કરું છું. તેઓ કોઈ સામાન્ય માનવી નથી, સાક્ષાત્ પ્રગટ પૂર્ણપુરુષોત્તમ ભગવાન છે! અને જીવુબા તથા લાડુબા—એ બંને બહેનો તો સાક્ષાત્ ત્યાગમૂર્તિ અખંડ સતીઓ છે! એ બહેનોનાં દર્શન કરતાં જ અમારા જેવા સંસારી જીવોના કામ-વાસનાના કુસંકલ્પો ક્ષણવારમાં બળીને ભસ્મ થઈ જાય છે, તો તેમના મનમાં વિકાર ક્યાંથી હોય? એ બંને પવિત્ર બહેનોના સત્સંગ અને ઉપદેશથી તો સંસારના અનેક મુમુક્ષુઓ મોહમાયા છોડીને પરમહંસ થયા છે! માટે હવે પછી આવા સાક્ષાત્ ભગવાન અને પવિત્ર સતીઓ વિષે દ્રોહવચન બોલીને આપનું અહિત ન કરશો!” ઓરજાંગભાઈના આવા તેજસ્વી અને સત્ય વચનો સાંભળી રાજા વજેસિંહ સ્તબ્ધ થઈ ગયા અને મૌન થઈ ગયા.
સમય જતાં ઓરજાંગભાઈ કોઈ અન્યાય સામે ભાવનગર રાજ્ય સામે બહારવટે ચડ્યા. એક દિવસ ચોટીલાના ડુંગર પાસે આવેલી વોંકળીમાં રાજ્યના સૈન્ય સાથે ભયાનક ધીંગાણું (યુદ્ધ) થયું. આ યુદ્ધમાં ઓરજાંગભાઈ ગંભીર રીતે ઘવાયા અને રક્તના ખાબોચિયામાં ઢળી પડ્યા. તેમનો અંતકાળ નજીક આવી પહોંચ્યો.
તે જ ક્ષણે સાક્ષાત્ પૂર્ણપુરુષોત્તમ ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણ પોતાના દિવ્ય સ્વરૂપે પાર્ષદો સહિત ત્યાં પ્રગટ થયા! અંતકાળે સાક્ષાત્ પ્રભુને સન્મુખ પધારેલા જોઈ ઓરજાંગભાઈએ બે હાથ જોડી ગદ્ગદ કંઠે સ્તુતિ કરી: “હે પ્રભુ! હે દીનાનાથ! મારા એવાં તે કયાં મહાન પુણ્ય કે આપ જેવા પરબ્રહ્મ આ રણમેદાનમાં અંતકાળે મને દર્શન દેવા પધાર્યા?” શ્રીહરિએ પરમ વાત્સલ્યપૂર્વક પોતાનો પાવન હસ્ત ઓરજાંગભાઈના મસ્તક પર મૂક્યો અને કરુણામૃત વરસાવતાં કહ્યું: “ઓરજાંગભાઈ! તે દિવસે ભાવનગરની ભરી રાજસભામાં તમે અમારો અને અમારી સતી બહેનોનો નિર્ભય થઈને સત્ય પક્ષ રાખ્યો હતો અને સૌની વચ્ચે અમને નિર્દોષ ઠેરવ્યા હતા! ભગવાન અને ભગવાનના સાચા ભક્તોનો પક્ષ રાખવાથી તમારા તમામ પાપો નાશ પામી તમે પરમ નિર્દોષ બની ગયા છો. તમારા એ સત્ય પક્ષ અને ભક્તિના બદલામાં આજે અમે સ્વયં તમને અમારા અક્ષરધામમાં તેડવા આવ્યા છીએ! ચાલો અમારા ધામમાં!”
પ્રભુએ પૂછ્યું: “તમારી આ લોકની કોઈ અંતિમ ઇચ્છા હોય તો કહો, અમે હમણાં જ પૂર્ણ કરીએ!” ત્યારે ઓરજાંગભાઈએ કહ્યું: “હે પ્રભુ! અંતકાળે આપનાં સાક્ષાત્ દર્શન થયાં, એથી મોટું જગતમાં શું હોઈ શકે? પરંતુ આ ઘાયલ અવસ્થામાં મને અતિશય તરસ લાગી છે, માટે મને થોડું જળ પાઓ!” શ્રીહરિએ પોતાના ચરણારવિંદથી ધરતી પર હળવી ઠેસ મારી, તે સાથે જ પથ્થરો વચ્ચેથી નિર્મળ મીઠું જળ પ્રગટ થયું! પાર્ષદે વસ્ત્રથી જળ ગાળી તાંબાના લોટામાં ભરી ઓરજાંગભાઈને તૃપ્ત કર્યા. ત્યારબાદ શ્રીહરિ તેમના જીવાત્માને પોતાના દિવ્ય વિમાનમાં બેસાડી સદેહે અક્ષરધામના અખંડ સુખમાં લઈ ગયા.

रेफडा के ओरजांगभाई काठी की राजसभा में खुमारी और अंतकाल में श्रीहरि की कृपा
सारंगपुर के समीप स्थित रेफडा गाँव के शूरवीर काठी क्षत्रिय ओरजांगभाई किसी राजकीय कार्यवश भावनगर के महाराजा वजेसंह बापू के दरबार में उपस्थित हुए। वार्तालाप के दौरान राजा वजेसंह ने सहज परिहास करते हुए कहा, “ओरजांगभाई! अब तो आपकी काया शिथिल हो चली है, बुढ़ापा आ गया है!” यह सुनते ही क्षत्रिय स्वाभिमान से भरे ओरजांगभाई बोले: “दरबार! अभी मुझमें तनिक भी वृद्धावस्था नहीं आई है; यदि आप कहें तो जूनागढ़ और जामनगर का राज्य आज भी जीतकर आपकी सेवा में अर्पित कर दूँ! पूरे गुजरात में मुझसे भुजा भिड़ा सके, ऐसा कोई शूरवीर नहीं जन्मा!”
जब यह वार्तालाप चल रहा था, तभी राजा वजेसंह ने कटाक्ष करते हुए एक संशययुक्त बात कही: “गढ़डा में स्वामीनारायण तो एभल बापू की युवा पुत्रियों के साथ रहते हैं, भला वहाँ धर्म की मर्यादा कैसे सुरक्षित रह सकती है?” यह सुनते ही ओरजांगभाई की आँखें अंगारे की तरह लाल हो उठीं! उन्होंने निर्भीकता से राजा को रोकते हुए ललकारा: “दरबार! आप संपूर्ण प्रजा के अधिपति होकर अपनी जिह्वा से ऐसा कलंकित और अधर्मी वचन कदापि न निकालें! भगवान स्वामीनारायण जब-जब सारंगपुर पधारते हैं, तब-तब मैं उनके और उनके त्यागी संतों के साक्षात् दर्शन करता हूँ। वे कोई साधारण मनुष्य नहीं, साक्षात् पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम परमात्मा हैं! और जीवुबा तथा लाडुबा—वे दोनों बहनें तो साक्षात् त्याग और ब्रह्मचर्य की प्रतिमूर्ति परम सतियाँ हैं! उन देवियों के दर्शन मात्र से हम जैसे सांसारिक जीवों के मन के काम-विकार भस्म हो जाते हैं, फिर उनके अंतःकरण में विकार का लेश भी कैसे संभव है? उन दोनों पावन बहनों के उपदेश से तो संसार के अनेक मुमुक्षुओं ने वैराग्य धारण कर परमहंस दीक्षा ली है! अतः आगे से ऐसे साक्षात् भगवान और ब्रह्मनिष्ठ सतियों के विरुद्ध द्रोह-वचन कहकर अपना अनिष्ट न करें!” ओरजांगभाई के इस निर्भीक सत्य के सम्मुख राजा वजेसंह निरुत्तर होकर लज्जित रह गए।
कालांतर में किसी अन्याय के विरुद्ध ओरजांगभाई ने भावनगर राज्य के विरुद्ध हथियार उठाए। एक दिन चोटिला पर्वत के निकट एक नाले (घाटी) में राजसेना के साथ उनका भीषण संग्राम हुआ। इस युद्ध में ओरजांगभाई गंभीर रूप से घायल होकर रक्त से लथपथ भूमि पर गिर पड़े। उनका अंतकाल निकट आ गया।
ठीक उसी क्षण साक्षात् पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान स्वामीनारायण अपने दिव्य रूप में पार्षदों सहित रणभूमि में प्रकट हुए! अंतिम घड़ी में प्रभु को अपने सम्मुख उपस्थित देखकर ओरजांगभाई ने करबद्ध होकर गद्गद कंठ से प्रार्थना की: “हे प्रभु! हे दीनानाथ! मेरे ऐसे कौन से संचित पुण्य जागृत हुए कि आप जैसे परमात्मा इस बीहड़ रणभूमि में मुझे दर्शन देने पधारे हैं?” श्रीहरि ने परम वात्सल्य से अपना करकमल ओरजांगभाई के मस्तक पर रखा और अमृतमयी वाणी में कहा: “ओरजांगभाई! उस दिन भावनगर की भरी राजसभा में आपने बिना किसी भय के हमारा और हमारी सती बहनों का सत्य पक्ष लिया था और सबके मध्य हमें निष्कलंक सिद्ध किया था! परमात्मा और उनके एकांतिक भक्तों का सच्चा पक्ष लेने से आपके समस्त पाप धुल गए और आप पूर्णतः निष्पाप हो गए। आपके उसी सत्य-पक्ष और अटल निष्ठा के पुरस्कार स्वरूप आज हम स्वयं आपको अपने अक्षरधाम ले जाने आए हैं!”
प्रभु ने पूछा: “आपकी कोई अंतिम सांसारिक अभिलाषा हो तो बताइए, हम अभी पूर्ण करेंगे।” तब ओरजांगभाई बोले: “हे प्रभु! अंत समय में आपके साक्षात् दर्शन हो गए, इससे बढ़कर त्रिलोकी में क्या हो सकता है? किंतु इस आहत अवस्था में मुझे तीव्र प्यास लगी है, अतः मुझे शीतल जल पिला दीजिए!” श्रीहरि ने अपने चरणकमल के अँगूठे से भूमि पर तनिक आघात किया, और तत्क्षण पाषाणों के बीच से निर्मल, शीतल जलधारा फूट पड़ी! सेवक ने वस्त्र से जल छानकर लोटे में भरकर ओरजांगभाई को तृप्त किया। तत्पश्चात श्रीहरि ने उन्हें अपने दिव्य विमान में बैठाकर परम पद अक्षरधाम में शाश्वत सुख प्रदान किया।

Orjangbhai Kathi of Refada: Fearless Defense of Truth in Bhavnagar and Shrihari’s Final Grace
Orjangbhai Kathi, a valiant chieftain from the village of Refada near Sarangpur, once visited the royal court of King Vajesinh of Bhavnagar on official affairs. In the course of their conversation, King Vajesinh teased him good-naturedly: “Orjangbhai! It appears age has finally caught up with your physical frame; you are growing old!” Overflowing with chivalric pride, Orjangbhai replied: “Darbar! Old age has not touched me in the least; if you command, I can march this very day and conquer the realms of Junagadh and Jamnagar for you! In all of Gujarat, there is no warrior born who can overpower me!”
As this martial banter continued, King Vajesinh subtly dropped a skeptical, scandalous insinuation: “In Gadhada, Swaminarayan resides amidst Ebhal Bapu’s young daughters; how can true ascetic righteousness and dharma ever be maintained in such proximity?” Hearing this blasphemous remark, Orjangbhai’s eyes blazed with righteous indignation! Rising boldly, he rebuked the monarch to his face: “Darbar! As a king presiding over your subjects, never let such defamatory, venomous words cross your lips! Whenever Bhagwan Swaminarayan graces Sarangpur, I have repeatedly beheld His holy persona and His pure ascetics. He is no ordinary mortal; He is manifest Purna Purushottam Narayan Himself! And Jivuba and Laduba—those two revered sisters are divine personifications of unbroken celibacy and ascetic purity! The mere sacred sight of those holy sisters extinguishes every latent trace of lust in worldly minds like ours; how could any impurity ever exist in their hearts? Through the spiritual discourses of those very sisters, countless souls have abandoned worldly illusions to embrace the holy path of Paramhansas! Therefore, do not invite spiritual ruin upon yourself by uttering slander against the Almighty and His saintly devotees!” Stunned by Orjangbhai’s fearless defense of truth, King Vajesinh fell silent in chastened embarrassment.
Years later, driven by political conflict, Orjangbhai rose in rebellion (outlawry) against the Bhavnagar state. During a fierce skirmish near the ravine of Chotila hill, he fought valiantly against royal troops but was mortally wounded, collapsing in a pool of blood as his lifeebbed away.
At that supreme final moment, Bhagwan Swaminarayan miraculously manifested in His resplendent divine form alongside His celestial attendants! Beholding the Lord manifest before him on the bloody battlefield, Orjangbhai folded his hands and prayed with tears of gratitude: “O Lord! O Protector of the helpless! What great merits have I accumulated that the Supreme Lord of all cosmoses has arrived in person on this desolate battlefield to grant me darshan at my final breath?” Shreehari tenderly placed His sacred hand upon Orjangbhai’s forehead and said in tones of divine compassion: “Orjangbhai! On that day in the crowded royal assembly of Bhavnagar, you fearlessly championed the truth, defending Our purity and the divine virtue of Our saintly sisters! By taking the side of God and His genuine devotees, every sin of your past births was entirely eradicated, rendering your soul pristine and pure. In reward for your courageous loyalty to truth, We have come in person to escort you to Our eternal Akshardham!”
Maharaj added: “Do you harbor any last earthly desire before departing?” Orjangbhai replied: “O Lord! To behold Thy lotus face at the time of death is the pinnacle of all existence; what more could I desire? Yet in this wounded state, an agonizing thirst consumes me; please grant me a sip of water!” Shreehari lightly struck the rocky earth with the toe of His sacred lotus foot, and instantly a spring of cool, sweet, crystal-clear water gushed forth from the barren ground! An attendant filtered the pure water into a vessel and quenched Orjangbhai’s thirst. Shreehari then seated his liberated soul upon a divine chariot and escorted him to the eternal bliss of Akshardham.
