શ્રીહરિ વડતાલમાં મોટાભાઈ રામપ્રતાપભાઈના બંગલે મેડી ઉપર બિરાજતા હતા. સમૈયામાં ગામેગામના હરિભક્તો આવી શ્રીહરિનું પૂજન કરી ધન્ય થતા હતા.

જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારી અને દામોદર ભગતનો વિવાદ તથા શ્રીહરિનું સમાધાન
શ્રીહરિ વડતાલમાં મોટાભાઈ રામપ્રતાપભાઈના બંગલાની મેડી ઉપર બિરાજતા હતા. સમૈયામાં ગામેગામના સંઘો આવી શ્રીહરિનું પૂજન કરી ધન્ય થતા હતા. શ્રીજીમહારાજે દામોદર ભગતને આજ્ઞા કરી હતી કે, “જે ભક્તોનો થાળ હોય તેમને જ મેડી પર પૂજન કરવા આવવા દેવા!” દામોદર ભગત મેડીના દાદરે ચોકી કરતા ઊભા રહ્યા.
તે દિવસે મેઉ ગામના પરમભક્ત ભૂખણભાઈ ભાવસારના બે પુત્રો મંછારામ અને તુલસીદાસ જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારી સાથે શ્રીહરિનું પૂજન કરવા આવ્યા. દામોદર ભગતે તેમને રોક્યા અને કહ્યું, “મહારાજની આજ્ઞા છે કે થાળ વગર કોઈને જવા દેવા નહીં.” જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારીએ કહ્યું, “આ બંને ભક્તોએ બસો રૂપિયાનો મોટો થાળ કર્યો છે!” છતાં દામોદર ભગતે નિયમનો આગ્રહ રાખતાં બંને વચ્ચે તીવ્ર બોલાચાલી થઈ. ક્રોધના આવેગમાં કદાવર જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારીએ દામોદર ભગતને પછાડી દીધા અને તેમના પર બેસી ગયા! શ્રીજીમહારાજ મેડી પરથી આ બધું નિહાળી રહ્યા હતા. જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારીએ કહ્યું, “મહારાજ તો એક રૂપિયાનો થાળ કરનારનેય પૂજા કરવા દે છે અને આ ભક્તોએ બસો રૂપિયા ખર્ચ્યા તોય તમે રોકો છો!” શ્રીહરિએ મેડી પરથી સાદ કર્યો: “જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારી! મંછારામ અને તુલસીદાસને લઈને ઉપર આવો!” બ્રહ્મચારીજીએ બંનેને પ્રેમથી પૂજા કરાવી.
બીજે દિવસે સદગુરુ નિત્યાનંદ સ્વામીના આસને સભામાં શ્રીહરિએ જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારીને પૂછ્યું, “બ્રહ્મચારી! પૂર્વાશ્રમમાં તમારા પડોશમાં કોણ રહેતું હતું? કોઈ કોળી કે લડાયક માણસ રહેતો હશે; નહીંતર બ્રાહ્મણના ખોળિયામાં આટલો બધો ક્રોધ ક્યાંથી હોય?” આ સાંભળી જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારી લાલચોળ થઈ ગયા અને રીસાઈને કોઈને કહ્યા વિના સાધુઓની ધર્મશાળાના ભોંયરામાં (ભંડકિયામાં) જઈને સૂઈ રહ્યા! સાંજ સુધી બ્રહ્મચારી ન દેખાતાં શ્રીહરિએ દામોદર ભગતને કહ્યું, “દામોદર! જેરામ બ્રહ્મચારી આકરા સ્વભાવના છે; ક્યાંક કૂવામાં પડીને મરી જશે તો તમને બ્રહ્મહત્યા લાગશે, માટે જલ્દી શોધી લાવો!”
દામોદર ભગત વ્યાકુળ થઈને શોધવા લાગ્યા. અંતે ભંડકિયામાં રીસાઈને બેઠેલા બ્રહ્મચારીને શોધી કાઢ્યા. દામોદર ભગતે પ્રેમપૂર્વક હાથ જોડી મનાવીને તેમને બહાર આણ્યા. શ્રીજીમહારાજે બંને સંત-ભક્તને પાસે બેસાડીને પરમ શાંતિનો ઉપદેશ આપ્યો: “સાધક અવસ્થામાં ક્રોધ અને અહંકાર એ મોટાં અંતરાય છે. એકબીજાનો મહિમા સમજવો એ જ મોટો સત્સંગ છે!” મહારાજે બંને પાસે પરસ્પર સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કરાવ્યા, ગળે મળાવ્યા અને તેમના અંતરમાં પ્રેમ અને સદ્ભાવ વધાર્યો.

जेराम ब्रह्मचारी और दामोदर भगत का विवाद तथा श्रीहरि का समाधान
श्रीजी महाराज वडताल में अपने ज्येष्ठ भ्राता रामप्रतापभाई के बंगले की ऊपरी मंजिल पर विराजमान थे। उत्सव में दूर-दूर से संघ आकर प्रभु का पूजन कर रहे थे। श्रीहरि ने दामोदर भगत को सीढ़ियों पर पहरेदार नियुक्त करते हुए आज्ञा दी थी कि जिनका थाल (भोग) हो, केवल उन्हीं को दर्शन और पूजन हेतु ऊपर आने दिया जाए।
उसी समय मेऊ गाँव के भक्त भूखनभाई भावसार के दो पुत्र—मंछाराम और तुलसीदास—जेराम ब्रह्मचारी के साथ पूजन हेतु पहुँचे। दामोदर भगत ने उन्हें रोकते हुए कहा, “महाराज की आज्ञा के अनुसार बिना थाल के किसी को अनुमति नहीं है।” जेराम ब्रह्मचारी बोले, “इन दोनों ने दो सौ रुपये की विशाल रसोई का थाल कराया है!” किंतु दामोदर भगत के अड़ जाने पर दोनों में विवाद बढ़ गया। क्रोधावेश में बलवान जेराम ब्रह्मचारी ने दामोदर भगत को भूमि पर पटक दिया और उनके ऊपर बैठ गए! ऊपरी मंजिल से श्रीजी महाराज यह दृश्य देख रहे थे। जेराम ब्रह्मचारी ने कहा, “महाराज तो एक रुपये का थाल चढ़ाने वाले को भी पूजन का अवसर देते हैं, और आपने दो सौ रुपये अर्पित करने वालों को रोक दिया!” तभी श्रीहरि ने ऊपर से पुकारा: “जेराम ब्रह्मचारी! मंछाराम और तुलसीदास को लेकर ऊपर आइए!” ब्रह्मचारीजी ने दोनों से प्रभु का पूजन करवाया।
अगले दिन सद्गुरु नित्यानंद स्वामी के आसन पर जब सभा बैठी, तो महाराज ने जेराम ब्रह्मचारी से विनोद में पूछा, “ब्रह्मचारी! पूर्वाश्रम में आपके पड़ोस में कौन रहता था? कोई कोली या लड़ाकू जाति रहती होगी; अन्यथा ब्राह्मण के हृदय में ऐसा उग्र क्रोध कैसे हो सकता है?” यह सुनकर जेराम ब्रह्मचारी अपमानित अनुभव कर रुष्ट हो गए और चुपचाप धर्मशाला के तहखाने (भंडकिए) में जाकर छिप गए। सायंकाल तक जब वे नहीं दिखे, तो श्रीहरि ने दामोदर भगत से कहा, “दामोदर! जेराम ब्रह्मचारी क्रोधी स्वभाव के हैं; यदि क्रोध में उन्होंने कुएँ में कूदकर प्राण दे दिए तो तुम्हें ब्रह्महत्या का पाप लगेगा, अतः उन्हें शीघ्र खोजकर लाओ!”
दामोदर भगत भयभीत होकर खोजने लगे। अंततः उन्होंने तहखाने में रुष्ट बैठे ब्रह्मचारीजी को खोज निकाला और हाथ जोड़कर अनुनय-विनय कर उन्हें मनाकर ले आए। श्रीजी महाराज ने दोनों को सम्मुख बिठाकर आध्यात्मिक विवेक का उपदेश दिया: “भक्ति मार्ग में क्रोध और अहंता का त्याग ही सबसे बड़ा साधन है। परस्पर संतों और भक्तों की महिमा समझना ही सच्चा सत्संग है।” महाराज ने दोनों से परस्पर साष्टांग दंडवत करवाकर उनका आलिंगन कराया और दोनों के हृदयों में अगाध प्रेम स्थापित किया।

Jeram Brahmachari and Damodar Bhagat: The Dispute and Shrihari’s Divine Reconciliation
During a festival in Vadtal, Bhagwan Swaminarayan was residing on the upper terrace of His elder brother Rampratapbhai’s mansion. As pilgrim groups from distant towns arrived to offer prayers, Maharaj instructed attendant Damodar Bhagat to guard the stairway, allowing only devotees who had sponsored a ceremonial food offering (thal) to ascend.
Presently, Manchharam and Tulsidas—sons of devotee Bhukhanbhai Bhavsar of Meu—arrived escorted by the muscular attendant Jeram Brahmachari. Damodar Bhagat barred their way, insisting that house rules required an explicit thal ticket. Jeram Brahmachari protested, “These two brothers have funded a magnificent feast worth two hundred rupees!” When Damodar remained obstinate, an argument erupted. Losing his fiery temper, the powerfully built Brahmachari wrestled Damodar to the floor and sat on him! Watching the spectacle from above, Maharaj called down: “Jeram Brahmachari! Bring Manchharam and Tulsidas upstairs at once!” Jeram promptly led the two devotees up to worship Shrihari.
The following morning, during an assembly at Sadguru Nityanand Swami’s quarters, Maharaj teased Jeram Brahmachari playfully: “Brahmachari! Who lived as your neighbors before you took monastic vows? Surely some fierce warriors or hot-tempered chieftains, for how else could a Brahmin harbor such volcanic fury?” Stung by the public jest, Jeram Brahmachari stormed off in a huff, sulking inside a dark subterranean cellar of the sadhus’ lodge without telling a soul! When evening arrived and Jeram was nowhere to be found, Maharaj summoned Damodar Bhagat: “Damodar! Jeram has an impetuous temperament; if he hurls himself into a well in despair, the sin of Brahminicide will fall upon your head! Go and find him at once!”
A panic-stricken Damodar searched frantically across Vadtal, finally discovering the sulking monk in the dark cellar. Bowing humbly, Damodar pleaded with folded hands, soothing Jeram’s pride and coaxing him back to Maharaj’s presence. Seating both disciples before Him, Shrihari delivered a masterclass on spiritual brotherhood: “In the spiritual journey, pride and anger are fatal impediments. The heart of true Satsang lies in honoring the divine virtues of fellow devotees above one’s own ego.” Maharaj had both devotees perform mutual prostrations and embrace, cementing an enduring bond of mutual love and humility between them.
