માંગરોળમાં નિલકંઠ વર્ણી અને સદાવ્રત લીલા
લોજ માં ગુરુદેવ રામાનંદ સ્વામીના આશ્રમમાં સદગુરુ મુકતાનંદ સ્વામી એ નિલકંઠ વર્ણીને પાર્ષદ દીક્ષા આપીને સરજુદાસ નામ પાડ્યું. સરજુદાસ પણ મુકતાનંદ સ્વામીની એક એક આજ્ઞા પાળતા ને શીષ્યભાવે આશ્રમની બધીજ નાની મોટી સેવા કરતા. એકદિવસ મુકતાનંદ સ્વામીએ સરજુદાસ ને બીજા ચાર સાધુઓને માંગરોળ મા આત્માનંદ નામે વૈરાગી સાધુ પોતાના આશ્રમે સદાવ્રત આપતા ત્યાં તેને સહાય કરવા મોકલ્યા. ત્યાં રહીને વર્ણી સૌને સેવામાં સહાય કરતા. બરાબર વર્ણી માંગરોળ આવ્યા એ જ સમયે અન્નકુટ નો ઉત્સવ આવ્યો તે સહુ સાધુઓએ ભેગા થઇને ઠાકોરજીને વિવિધ પકવાન ધરાવ્યા. એ સમયે અન્નકુટ ઘરાવતી વખતે આત્માનંદ વૈરાગીએ સરજુદાસ ને આજ્ઞા કરી કે સુખડી કે મીઠાઇ વગેરે જે કોરા કોરા પકવાન છે એ પૃસાદ રાખી મુકજો અને બીજા પદાર્થો ભીક્ષુકો ને પૃસાદ તરીકે જમાડી દેજો. એમ કહીને વૈરાગી તો ગામમાં પૃસાદી આપવા ગયા. આત્માનંદ વૈરાગી પાછા ફર્યા એટલી વાર મા તો દયાળુ સ્વભાવના વર્ણીએ સૌ ભિક્ષુકો ને જે કાઇ ચોક્ખા પકવાન હતા એ જમાડી દીધાને નવરા થઇને બેસી ગયા. આત્માનંદ વૈરાગી આવ્યા ને રહોડા મા જઇને જોયું ત્યારે જાણ થઇને બધીય હકિકત જાણી ને ગુસ્સે થયાને વઢતા થકા કોપાયમાન સ્વરે વર્ણી ઉપર તાડૂક્યા ને બોલ્યા કે આવું અવળું કામ કેમ કર્યું ? એમ કહીને આશ્રમમાં થી કાઢી મુકયા. વર્ણી તો જાણે કશુંય બન્યું જ ન હોય એમ વાવ ઉપર આવી ને ધ્યાનગૃસ્ત મુદ્રા મા બેઠા. મોડેક થી એકાંતિક ભક્ત ગોવર્ધનભાઇ ને બોલાવી ને સઘળી હકિકત કહીને આત્માનંદ વૈરાગી ના આશ્રમ ના સામેજ માંડવો કરાવીને સદાવૃત આપવા ની શરુઆત કરી. આ જોઇને આત્માનંદ વૈરાગીને ખીજ ચડી તે એના સદાવૃત મા આવતા ભિક્ષુકોને પણ સરજુદાસે શરુ કરેલ સદાવૃત મા મોકલવા મંડયા. સરજુદાસ વેષે શ્રીહરિ તો સૌને જેટલું જોઇએ એટલું સદાવૃત વહેંચવા મંડયા તે ત્યાં ના લોકો મા તો સરજુદાસ ની જય બોલાવા લાગી. એ વખતે એકદિવસ માંગરોળ શહેરના બૃાહ્મણો એ આત્માનંદ વૈરાગી પાસે જઇને ચોરાસી કરાવવાની અરજ કરી પણ આ વૈરાગીએ અસૂયાના ભાવથી વર્ણીના સદાવૃત મા મોકલ્યા. નિલકંઠ વર્ણી તો હોંશે હોંશે બધાને આવકારતા ને સીધું આપતા. બધીય જોઇતી વસ્તુઓની વ્યવસ્થા મહામુકત એવા ગોવર્ધનભાઇ શેઠ ની પાસે કરાવતા. વધારે વસ્તુઓની જરુરિયાત જોતા ભકતરાજ ગોવર્ધનભાઇ મુંજાણા ત્યારે વર્ણી હસીને કહે કે ટીપે ટીપે સરોવર ભરાય એમ આપડુ કામ પણ થઇ જશે જ..! સૌ થોડો થોડો સામાન લાવવા મંડયા ત્યારે વર્ણી એ સામી બાજુ ચૂલો ગળાવી ને રસોઇ કરાવી. આત્માનંદ વૈરાગી તો મનમા બળતરા કરતા વિચારવા લાગ્યા કે આણે એકાએક વસ્તુઓ ક્યાંથી કાઢી ને રસોઇ પણ કરાવી દીધી. પોતે ઇર્ષાભાવે વિચારવા લાગ્યા કે હવે વર્ણીને કાંક અડચણ થાય એવું કરાવુ એમ વિચારીને આગેવાન બૃાહ્મણો ને કહ્યું કે તમે બધા ચોરાસી મા જમવા તો આવ્યા પણ કોઇએ જાણ્યું કે આ વર્ણી નુ દૂધ કયુ છે? ક્યાંથી આવ્યા છે? કોણ છે? ચોરાસી મા આવેલા બૃાહ્મણો એ આવી ને આ વાત્ય વર્ણી ને પુછી તો એ સમયે વરણીની મુર્તી મા અનેક સુર્યો ના તેજ સમો પૃકાશ નીસરતો દેખ્યો અને સહુને દિવ્ય સ્વરુપમા જગતકર્તા પરમપિતાના સ્વરુપે સુવર્ણ સીહાસન બેઠેલા દર્શન થયા. સૌને અનંતમુકતો સીહાસન ના ફરતે શ્રીહરિની સેવા કરતા દર્શન થયા. સૌને ભગવાનપણા નો નિશ્ચય થયો. સૌ દર્શન કરીને આત્માનંદ વૈરાગીને બોલ્યા કે તમે તો એનું ભૂંડું કરવા ઇચ્છતા હતા પણ એતો સાક્ષાત પરમેશ્વર છે. એ વરણીની આગળ તો કોઇનુ કશુંય ચાલે એમ નથી. સૌ બૃાહ્મણો તયારબાદ ચોરાસી મા ભરપેટ જમ્યા ને સૌને દક્ષિણા મળતા સૌ સૌને ઘેર ગયા. વધેલા સીધાની સામગ્રી ગોવર્ધન શેઠે વેચી તો એમા પણ પૈસા વધ્યા તે નિલકંઠ વર્ણીએ સૂચન કરતા ત્યાં વાવ ઉપર એક ઓરડી કરાવી.
આ વાત્ય ની સદગુરુ મુકતાનંદ સ્વામી ને જાણ થતા એમને વરણીની એમને ચિંતા થઇ તો પરત લોજ તેડાવી લીધા.

मांगरोल में नीलकंठ वर्णी और सदाव्रत की दिव्य लीला
सद्गुरु मुक्तानंद स्वामी ने लोझ में गुरुदेव रामानंद स्वामी के आश्रम में नीलकंठ वर्णी को पार्षद दीक्षा देकर उनका नाम ‘सरजूदास’ रखा। सरजूदास भी मुक्तानंद स्वामी की एक-एक आज्ञा का अक्षरशः पालन करते और शिष्यभाव से आश्रम की सभी छोटी-बड़ी सेवाएँ करते थे। एक दिन मुक्तानंद स्वामी ने सरजूदास और अन्य चार साधुओं को मांगरोल में आत्मानंद नामक वैरागी साधु के आश्रम पर भेजा, ताकि वे वहाँ चल रहे सदाव्रत (अन्नक्षेत्र) में उसकी सहायता कर सकें। वहाँ रहकर वर्णी सभी की सेवा में हाथ बँटाने लगे। ठीक उसी समय मांगरोल में अन्नकूट का पावन उत्सव आया, तो सभी साधुओं ने मिलकर ठाकोरजी को विविध प्रकार के सुंदर पकवान अर्पित किए। अन्नकूट धराते समय आत्मानंद वैरागी ने सरजूदास को आदेश दिया कि सुखड़ी, मिठाई आदि सूखे और उत्तम पकवान प्रसादी के रूप में अलग संभालकर रख लें और शेष साधारण सामग्री भिक्षुकों को प्रसादी के रूप में बाँट दें। ऐसा कहकर वैरागी गाँव में प्रसादी देने चला गया।
आत्मानंद वैरागी जब तक लौटकर आए, तब तक दयालु स्वभाव के वर्णी ने सभी भिक्षुकों और निर्धनों को वे सभी उत्तम पकवान बड़े प्रेम से जिमा दिए और स्वयं निश्चिंत होकर बैठ गए। आत्मानंद वैरागी ने आश्रम लौटकर जब रसोईघर (रहोड़ा) में देखा और सारा हाल जाना, तो वह क्रोध से आगबबूला हो गया। उसने कुपित होकर वर्णी पर चिल्लाते हुए कहा, “तुमने ऐसा उल्टा काम क्यों किया?” और क्रोध में उन्हें आश्रम से निकाल दिया। वर्णी तो मानो कुछ हुआ ही न हो, वैसे ही सहज भाव से वहाँ से निकलकर बावड़ी (वाव) की पाल पर आकर ध्यानमग्न मुद्रा में बैठ गए। थोड़ी देर बाद उन्होंने एकांतिक भक्त गोवर्धनभाई को बुलाकर सारा वृत्तांत बताया और आत्मानंद वैरागी के आश्रम के ठीक सामने एक भव्य मंडप बनवाकर स्वयं सदाव्रत प्रारंभ कर दिया। यह देखकर आत्मानंद वैरागी को और अधिक ईर्ष्या हुई। उसने अपने सदाव्रत में आने वाले भिक्षुकों को भी सरजूदास के सदाव्रत में भेजना शुरू कर दिया ताकि इनकी सामग्री समाप्त हो जाए। किंतु सरजूदास के रूप में साक्षात् श्रीहरि सबको जितना चाहिए उतना अन्न-सामग्री बाँटने लगे। इससे पूरे क्षेत्र के लोगों में सरजूदास की जय-जयकार होने लगी।
उन्हीं दिनों मांगरोल नगर के ब्राह्मणों ने आत्मानंद वैरागी के पास जाकर ‘चौरासी’ (समस्त ब्राह्मण जातियों का महाभोज) कराने की प्रार्थना की। किंतु वैरागी ने द्वेष और ईर्ष्या के वशीभूत होकर उन सभी को वर्णी के सदाव्रत में भेज दिया। नीलकंठ वर्णी ने बड़े उल्लास और आदर के साथ सभी का स्वागत किया और उन्हें सीधा (कच्ची राशन सामग्री) देना आरंभ किया। सामग्री की समस्त व्यवस्था महामुक्त गोवर्धनभाई सेठ के माध्यम से करवाई जा रही थी। इतनी विशाल मात्रा में सामग्री की आवश्यकता देखकर भक्तराज गोवर्धनभाई कुछ संकोच और चिंता में पड़ गए। तब वर्णी ने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा, “बूँद-बूँद से सरोवर भर जाता है, वैसे ही हमारा यह कार्य भी अवश्य निर्विघ्न संपन्न हो जाएगा!” लोग थोड़ी-थोड़ी सामग्री लाने लगे और वर्णी ने सामने चूल्हा बनवाकर चौरासी की भव्य रसोई तैयार करवा दी।
आत्मानंद वैरागी मन ही मन ईर्ष्या की आग में जलते हुए सोचने लगा कि इस वर्णी ने इतनी सामग्री अचानक कहाँ से जुटा ली और पूरी रसोई भी बनवा दी! उसने वर्णी के कार्य में विघ्न डालने के उद्देश्य से ब्राह्मणों के मुखियाओं को भड़काते हुए कहा, “आप सब चौरासी जीमने तो आ गए, परंतु क्या किसी ने यह जाना कि इस वर्णी का कुल (दूध) क्या है? यह कहाँ से आया है और कौन है?” चौरासी में आए ब्राह्मणों ने आकर वर्णी से यही प्रश्न पूछा। उसी क्षण वर्णी की दिव्य मूर्ति से कोटि सूर्यों के समान अलौकिक प्रकाश प्रस्फुटित होने लगा! सभी को उनके दिव्य स्वरूप में, समस्त सृष्टि के कर्ता परमपिता परमात्मा के रूप में स्वर्ण सिंहासन पर विराजमान होने के अलौकिक दर्शन हुए। सिंहासन के चारों ओर अनंत मुक्त श्रीहरि की सेवा करते हुए दिखाई दिए। सभी ब्राह्मणों को वर्णी के साक्षात् परब्रह्म परमात्मा होने का दृढ़ निश्चय हो गया।
इस अलौकिक दर्शन के उपरांत सभी ब्राह्मण आत्मानंद वैरागी से बोले, “तुम तो इनका अनिष्ट करना चाहते थे, परंतु ये तो साक्षात् परमेश्वर हैं! इन वर्णी के सम्मुख किसी का कुछ नहीं चल सकता।” तत्पश्चात सभी ब्राह्मणों ने चौरासी में तृप्त होकर भोजन किया और दक्षिणा प्राप्त कर प्रसन्न मन से अपने-अपने घर लौटे। बचा हुआ सीधा गोवर्धन सेठ ने जब बेचा, तो उसमें से भी धन बच गया। तब नीलकंठ वर्णी के निर्देशानुसार उस धन से बावड़ी पर एक कमरा (ओरड़ी) बनवा दिया गया।
जब सद्गुरु मुक्तानंद स्वामी को इस घटना का समाचार मिला, तो उन्हें वर्णी की चिंता हुई, अतः उन्होंने उन्हें पुनः लोझ आश्रम बुलवा लिया।

Nilkanth Varni’s Divine Sadavrat in Mangrol
In the ashram of Gurudev Ramanand Swami at Loj, Sadguru Muktanand Swami bestowed the parshad initiation upon Nilkanth Varni and named Him Sarjudas. Sarjudas faithfully observed every single instruction of Muktanand Swami and performed all the services of the ashram with the utmost humility of a devoted disciple. One day, Muktanand Swami sent Sarjudas along with four other sadhus to Mangrol to assist an ascetic sadhu named Atmanand Vairagi, who operated a sadavrat (charity food kitchen) at his ashram. Staying there, Varni assisted everyone wholeheartedly in their duties. Exactly around that time, the sacred festival of Annakut arrived. All the sadhus joined together and offered a grand variety of exquisite delicacies to Thakorji. While offering the Annakut, Atmanand Vairagi instructed Sarjudas to set aside dry, rich sweets such as sukhdi and other delicacies as special prasad, and to distribute only the ordinary food items to the beggars and needy. Saying this, the Vairagi went into the town to distribute prasad.
By the time Atmanand Vairagi returned, compassionate Varni had lovingly fed all the beggars and poor seekers with all the finest delicacies and sweets that had been prepared, and sat down peacefully. When Atmanand Vairagi entered the kitchen and discovered what had happened, he flew into a rage. Fuming with anger, he lashed out at Varni, roaring, “Why did you do such an improper deed?” and angrily expelled Him from the ashram. Unruffled, as if nothing untoward had happened, Varni walked over to the village stepwell (vav) and sat serenely in deep meditation. A little later, He summoned the elevated devotee Govardhanbhai Sheth, narrated the entire event, and had a canopy erected directly opposite Atmanand Vairagi’s ashram, where He commenced His own sadavrat. Witnessing this, Atmanand Vairagi grew even more irritated and spitefully began directing the mendicants coming to his ashram to Sarjudas’s sadavrat, intending to exhaust His supplies. However, Shri Hari in the form of Sarjudas distributed generous rations to everyone according to their needs, leading the townspeople to chant praises of Sarjudas with great joy.
Around that time, the Brahmins of Mangrol approached Atmanand Vairagi requesting him to host a ‘Chorasi’ (a grand community feast for all eighty-four Brahmin sub-castes). Out of envy and ill will, the Vairagi redirected them to Varni’s sadavrat, assuming Varni would be publicly humiliated. Nilkanth Varni, however, welcomed everyone with open arms and joyfully began providing dry provisions (sidhu). All the required provisions were being arranged through the great liberated devotee Govardhanbhai Sheth. Seeing the immense scale of provisions required, devotee Govardhanbhai grew apprehensive. Varni smiled and reassured him, “Just as drops of water fill an ocean-like reservoir, our endeavor will also be fulfilled effortlessly!” People began contributing provisions in small quantities, and Varni had a large outdoor hearth constructed across the way to prepare a magnificent feast.
Atmanand Vairagi burned with jealousy, wondering how Varni could suddenly assemble such vast supplies and arrange the entire feast. Harboring malice, he attempted to instigate the leading Brahmins, saying, “You have all gathered here to feast at this Chorasi, but has anyone verified this Varni’s lineage and background? Where has He come from, and who is He really?” The Brahmins came and posed this question to Varni. At that very moment, an effulgence surpassing the radiance of millions of suns burst forth from Varni’s divine form! Everyone beheld the supreme Lord, the Creator of the cosmos, seated majestically upon a golden throne in His divine form. Surrounding the throne, countless liberated souls (anant muktas) were seen adoring and serving Shri Hari. All the Brahmins instantly attained the firm conviction of His supreme divinity.
Beholding this divine vision, the Brahmins went to Atmanand Vairagi and declared, “You wished to cause Him distress, but He is the manifest Supreme Lord! No one can ever prevail against this divine Varni.” The Brahmins then partook of the feast to their hearts’ content, received generous dakshina, and returned home joyfully. When Govardhan Sheth sold the surplus dry provisions, substantial funds remained. Following Nilkanth Varni’s guidance, that money was utilized to build a small room (ordi) near the stepwell.
When Sadguru Muktanand Swami received news of these happenings in Mangrol, he grew concerned for Varni’s well-being and recalled Him back to Loj.
