શ્રીહરિ એકવખત સંતો ભક્તો ને સભા મા નિષ્ઠાના અંગ ની વાત્ય કરતા હતા તે બોલ્યા જે…..
એકવખત જોબનપગી ને એમની બે દિકરીઓ સાથે વરતાલ થી દર્શને ગઢડે આવતા હતા. ચાલતા ચાલતા ધોલેરા ગયા ને ત્યાં દેવ ના દર્શન કરીને ત્યાથી ચાલ્યા તે પોલારપુર ગામે પહોંચ્યા. બપોરટાણુ થઇ જતા ત્યાં તળાવના કાઠે હાથ મોઢા ધોઇને બપોરનુ જમવા બેઠા, સાથે લાવેલા ઢેબરા, મરચા ને ગોળ દહી જે હતું તે બપોરા કર્યા ને ઝાડના છાંયે થોડીવાર આરામ કરવા બેઠા. એ સમયે ત્યાં દસ-બારેક વાણીયાઓ ત્યાં થી નીસર્યા એટલે એમણે જોબનપગીને પુછયુ કે વટેમાર્ગુ લાગો છ, કયા રહેવું ? ત્યારે જોબનપગી કહે કે અમે તો ગુજરાત ના છઇ ને કાઠિયાવાડ મા ગામ ગઢડે જાઇ છઇ. આ સાંભળી ને વાણીયાઓ માથી એક બોલ્યો કે ગુજરાત મા એક જોબન વડતાલો કેવાય છે એ પેલા ખૂંખાર લૂંટારો હતો પણ હવે ઇ સ્વામિનારાયણ નો ભગત થયો તે એની બે દિકરીયુ ને સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગાડીને લઇ ગયા છ, એ વાત સાચી છ કે? ત્યારે જોબનપગી બોલ્યા કે કેટલી બે જ ભગાડી ગયા છે કે વધારે ? કૃષ્ણાવતાર મા તો મારા વાલાએ સોળ હજાર એકસો ને આઠ ભગાડી હતી, તેટલી કરશે ત્યાં સુધી તો હુ એમને શ્રીકૃષ્ણપૃભુ જેવા જાણીશ. જો એનાથી બમણી કે ત્રણ ગણી કરશે તો હુ એમનુ મહાત્મય બે ગણું કે ત્રણ ગણું વધારે જાણીશ. પેલા વાણીયાઓ તો જોબનપગી ને ઓળખતા ન હતા પણ આવી નિષ્ઠાભરી વાત્ય સાંભળીને અવાક્ થય ગયા. જોબનપગી બોલ્યા કે જુઓ એ જોબન વડતાલા ની તમે જે વાત કરો છો એ હુ પોતે જ ને આ મારી દિકરીયુ પણ મારી સાથે જ છે. મારા ઇષ્ટદેવ ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણ મારી દિકરીયુ ને ભગાડી નથી ગયા, પણ તમારી મા-બેન-દિકરીયુ તમે સાચવજો નહીતર સમાજ મા ઘણા ઢોંગી બાવાઓ રખડે છે એ ભગાડી જાહે ને પછે રાતે પાણીએ રોવાનો વારો આવશે.

એકવખત ગામ વસોમા રામદાસની કચેરીએ હરિભક્ત શીવો ગઢવી ને કસીયોજી ને બેઠા હતા. એ સમયે શીવો ગઢવી ઉભા થયા એટલે કસીયોજી બોલ્યા કે ગઢવી કેમ ઉભા થયા? ત્યારે શીવો ગઢવી બોલ્યા કે મારા ઇષ્ટદેવ સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન વડતાલ હાલ આવ્યા છે તો મારે એમના દર્શને જાવુ છે. એ સાંભળી કસીયોજી દ્વેષભાવે બોલ્યા કે ગઢવી એ તને કયા શીરપાવ બાંધી દેવાના છે તો તુ વારે ઘડીએ એની વાહે દોડ્યા કરે છ? ત્યારે શીવો ગઢવી બોલ્યા કે એ ભલે મને શીરપાવ ન બાંધી દેય પણ તમારા કરતા તો એ લાખ-કરોડ દરજ્જે મોટા છે, તમે તો મને આ લોક ના વસ્તુ પદાર્થ આપો પણ એતો મને જન્મ મરણ માંચડાને અક્ષરધામનું પદ કાયમી દેવા ના છે, ને મારા ભગવાન છે માટે જાઉં છુ. આમ બળભરી નિષ્ઠાની વાત્ય કહીને શીવો ગઢવી તો કચેરીએ થી નીસરી ને સીધા જ વરતાલ આવ્યા ને દર્શન કરીને બેઠા. તે વખતે અમે રૂંનો ભરેલો સુરવાળ ને અતલસ નો કિમતી જામો પહેર્યો હતો ને માથે મોળીયુ ને શેલું ઓઢ્યું હતું. શીવા ગઢવીની આ વાત ને અંતર્યામી પણે જાણીને અમે પાહે બોલાવીને બધાય વસ્ત્રો પહેરાવ્યા ને આશીર્વાદ દીધા ને કહ્યું કે જા તુ આ પહેરેલ કપડે જ કસીયાજીને કહે જે કે મારા ભગવાને અંતરજામી પણે જાણી ને તને કહેવા બતાવવા સારુ પાછો મોકલ્યો છે. એમ કહીને શીવા ગઢવીને પાછો ગામ વસો મોકલ્યા.
એ ભકતરાજ શીવા ગઢવી ને પહેરાવેલ પૃસાદીની વસ્તુઓ માથી જામો ને સુરવાળ હાલ પણ દર્શન આપે છે.

जोबन पगी और शीवा गढ़वी की सत्संग निष्ठा
एक समय श्रीहरि संतों और भक्तों की सभा में सत्संग-निष्ठा के अंग पर उपदेश दे रहे थे। उस अवसर पर उन्होंने दो अद्भुत प्रसंग सुनाए…
पहला प्रसंग: एक बार जोबन पगी अपनी दो पुत्रियों के साथ वड़ताल से दर्शन करने के लिए गढ़ाड़ा आ रहे थे। पैदल चलते-चलते वे धोलेरा पहुँचे और वहाँ भगवान के दर्शन करके आगे बढ़े, तब वे पोलारपुर गाँव पहुँचे। दोपहर का समय हो जाने पर उन्होंने वहाँ तालाब के किनारे हाथ-मुँह धोए और दोपहर का भोजन करने बैठे। अपने साथ लाए हुए ढेबरा, मिर्च, गुड़ और दही का भोजन किया तथा एक वृक्ष की शीतल छाया में विश्राम करने लगे।
उसी समय वहाँ से दस-बारह वणिक (व्यापारी) निकले। उन्होंने जोबन पगी को देखकर पूछा, “आप परदेशी मुसाफ़िर लगते हैं, कहाँ के निवासी हैं?” तब जोबन पगी ने कहा, “हम गुजरात के हैं और काठियावाड़ में गढ़ाड़ा गाँव जा रहे हैं।” यह सुनकर उन व्यापारियों में से एक बोला, “गुजरात में वड़ताल का एक जोबन पगी है, जो पहले बहुत खूंखार लुटेरा था, परंतु अब वह स्वामिनारायण का भक्त बन गया है। सुना है कि स्वामिनारायण उसकी दो बेटियों को भगा ले गए हैं, क्या यह बात सच है?”
यह सुनकर जोबन पगी ने सहज भाव से कहा, “क्या वे केवल दो ही बेटियों को ले गए हैं या उससे अधिक? कृष्णावतार में तो मेरे प्यारे प्रभु ने सोलह हज़ार एक सौ आठ रानियों को वरण किया था। जब तक वे इतनी संख्या तक करेंगे, तब तक तो मैं उन्हें साक्षात् श्रीकृष्ण प्रभु ही मानूँगा! और यदि वे इससे दोगुनी या तिगुनी भी करेंगे, तो उनके प्रति मेरा माहात्म्य ज्ञान दो गुना या तीन गुना और बढ़ जाएगा!”
वे व्यापारी जोबन पगी को पहचानते नहीं थे, किंतु उनकी ऐसी अडिग निष्ठा और निर्भीक वाणी सुनकर अवाक् रह गए।
तब जोबन पगी ने कहा, “सुनिए! आप जिस वड़ताल के जोबन की बात कर रहे हैं, वह जोबन मैं स्वयं ही हूँ और ये दोनों मेरी बेटियाँ भी मेरे साथ हैं! मेरे इष्टदेव भगवान श्री स्वामिनारायण मेरी पुत्रियों को कहीं भगाकर नहीं ले गए हैं; बल्कि आप अपनी माँ-बहनों और बेटियों की संभाल रखिए, अन्यथा समाज में कई ढोंगी और पाखंडी बाबा घूम रहे हैं, जो उन्हें बहका ले जाएँगे और फिर आपको खून के आँसू रोना पड़ेगा!”
सभा में श्रीहरि ने निष्ठा का दूसरा प्रसंग भी उसी दिन सुनाया…
दूसरा प्रसंग: एक बार वसो गाँव में रामदास के दरबार (कचहरी) में हरिभक्त शीवा गढ़वी और कसियाजी बैठे हुए थे। उसी समय शीवा गढ़वी उठ खड़े हुए। कसियाजी ने पूछा, “गढ़वी, आप अचानक क्यों खड़े हो गए?” शीवा गढ़वी ने उत्तर दिया, “मेरे इष्टदेव भगवान स्वामिनारायण इस समय वड़ताल पधारे हैं, अतः मुझे उनके दर्शन करने जाना है।”
यह सुनकर कसियाजी ने ईर्ष्याभाव से ताना मारते हुए कहा, “गढ़वी! वे तुम्हें कौन सा सिरोपाव (राजसी वस्त्र-सम्मान) बाँध देने वाले हैं जो तुम बार-बार उनके पीछे दौड़े चले जाते हो?”
तब शीवा गढ़वी ने दृढ़तापूर्वक कहा, “भले ही वे मुझे कोई सिरोपाव न दें, किंतु वे आपसे लाख-करोड़ दर्जे श्रेष्ठ हैं! आप तो मुझे केवल इस नश्वर लोक की सांसारिक वस्तुएँ दे सकते हैं, परंतु वे तो मेरे जन्म-मरण के बंधन को काटकर मुझे शाश्वत अक्षरधाम का परम पद देने वाले हैं। वे मेरे साक्षात् भगवान हैं, इसलिए मैं जा रहा हूँ।”
ऐसी बलवती निष्ठा की बात कहकर शीवा गढ़वी कचहरी से निकलकर सीधे वड़ताल पहुँचे और श्रीजी महाराज के दर्शन करके बैठ गए।
उस समय का प्रसंग बताते हुए महाराज ने कहा, “उस समय हमने रुई का भरा हुआ सुरवाल (पायजामा) और अतलस (साटन/रेशम) का कीमती जामा पहन रखा था तथा सिर पर मोळियुं (पगड़ी) और कंधे पर शेलुं (दुपट्टा) ओढ़ रखा था। शीवा गढ़वी की उस वार्ता को अंतर्यामी रूप से जानकर हमने उन्हें अपने पास बुलाया और अपने पहने हुए सारे प्रसादी वस्त्र उन्हें पहना दिए। फिर उन्हें आशीर्वाद देकर कहा, ‘जाओ, इन्हीं पहने हुए वस्त्रों में जाकर कसियाजी से कहना कि मेरे भगवान ने अंतर्यामी रूप से सब जानकर तुम्हें दिखाने और बताने के लिए ही मुझे वापस भेजा है!’”
यह कहकर महाराज ने शीवा गढ़वी को पुनः वसो गाँव भेज दिया।
भक्तराज शीवा गढ़वी को पहनाए गए उन प्रसादी वस्त्रों में से जामा और सुरवाल आज भी भक्तों को दर्शन दे रहे हैं।

The Steadfast Faith of Joban Pagi and Shivo Gadhvi
Once, Shri Hari was addressing an assembly of saints and devotees on the spiritual virtue of resolute conviction and unwavering faith (Nishtha no ang). On that occasion, He narrated two extraordinary incidents…
The First Incident: Once, Joban Pagi was traveling on foot from Vadtal to Gadhada accompanied by his two daughters to have divine darshan. Walking along their way, they reached Dholera, had darshan of the deity, and proceeded toward the village of Polarpur. As noon approached, they washed their hands and faces by the bank of a village pond and sat down to eat lunch. They ate the dhebra, chillies, jaggery, and yogurt they had brought along, and then rested for a while in the cool shade of a tree.
At that time, a group of ten to twelve merchants (Vaniyas) passed by. Seeing Joban Pagi, they asked, “You appear to be wayfarers; where do you reside?” Joban Pagi replied, “We belong to Gujarat and are traveling to the village of Gadhada in Kathiyawad.” Hearing this, one of the merchants remarked, “In Gujarat, there is one known as Joban of Vadtal, who was once a notorious, ruthless bandit, but has now become a follower of Swaminarayan. We hear that Swaminarayan ran off with his two daughters—is that true?”
Joban Pagi replied with calm conviction, “Did He take away only two, or even more? In His Krishna incarnation, my Beloved Lord accepted 16,108 queens. As long as He does up to that number, I shall recognize Him as none other than Bhagwan Shri Krishna! And if He does twice or thrice that number, my understanding of His supreme glory (mahatmya) will only double or triple!”
The merchants did not know that they were addressing Joban Pagi himself, but hearing such unshakeable faith and fearless conviction, they were struck dumb with awe.
Joban Pagi then stated, “Look here! The Joban of Vadtal you are speaking about is myself, and these two daughters of mine are right here with me! My Ishtadev Bhagwan Shri Swaminarayan has not run away with my daughters; rather, you should protect your own mothers, sisters, and daughters, for many hypocritical impostors and mendicants wander about in society who might deceive them, leaving you to weep bitter tears later!”
Shri Hari then related the second incident of unwavering conviction in the assembly on that very day…
The Second Incident: Once, in the village of Vaso, the devotee Shivo Gadhvi and Kasiyoji were sitting together in Ramdas’s court. At that moment, Shivo Gadhvi stood up. Kasiyoji asked, “Gadhvi, why are you standing up to leave?” Shivo Gadhvi replied, “My Ishtadev Bhagwan Swaminarayan has currently graced Vadtal, and I must go to have His darshan.”
Hearing this, Kasiyoji taunted with malice, “Gadhvi, what royal robe of honor (shirpav) is He going to bestow upon you that you keep running after Him time and again?”
Shivo Gadhvi replied with unyielding faith, “Even if He does not tie a royal robe of honor upon me, He is millions and billions of times greater than you! You can only offer me transient worldly possessions of this mortal realm, whereas He will sever the cycle of birth and death and grant me the eternal abode of Akshardham! He is my Supreme Lord, and that is why I am going.”
Proclaiming this powerful declaration of faith, Shivo Gadhvi left the court and went straight to Vadtal, where he had darshan of Shriji Maharaj and sat down in the assembly.
Recounting that moment, Maharaj said, “At that time, We were wearing a cotton-padded surval (trousers), an expensive satin (atalas) jamo (long robe), and had tied a moliyu (turban) on Our head and draped a shelu (shawl). Knowing Shivo Gadhvi’s resolute devotion through Our divine omniscience, We called him close, dressed him in all those very clothes of Ours, and blessed him, saying: ‘Go, wearing these very garments, and tell Kasiyoji that my Bhagwan, knowing everything through His omniscience, has sent me back specifically to show and tell you!’”
Saying this, Maharaj sent Shivo Gadhvi back to Vaso village.
Among the sacred prasadi garments gifted to the great devotee Shivo Gadhvi, the jamo and surval are preserved and can be viewed for darshan even today.
