ગઢપુરના જોધાભગત અને કાળ સાથેનો સંવાદ
ગઢપુરમાં રાઇબાઇમાં ના ઓરડા છે ત્યાં વંડો હતો ને ત્યાં દાદાખાચર ની ભેંસો નુ ખાંડું રાખતા. પરમભકત જોધાભગત ત્યાં રહીને એની સાર સંભાળ રાખતા. શ્રીજીમહારાજ ઘણીવખત ત્યાં પધારી ને જોધાભગત સાથે હસીમજાક કરીને ગમ્મત કરતા.
એકવખત જોધાભગત માંદા થયા તે ખાટલે સુતા સુતા ગોવિંદ બાબર ને કહે કે ગોવિંદ..! મને લાગે છ મારુ આયખું હવે પુરુ થાવા આવ્યું લાગે છે. તે મહારાજ મને દર્શન દેવા આવે તો સારું..! તુ દરબારગઢ જા ને મહારાજ ને કેજે કે જોધો તમને દર્શન દેવા બોલાવે છે. ગોવિંદબાબર કહે કે હુ હાલ જ જઇને મહારાજ ને તમારા સમાચાર પહોંચાડું એમ કરીને દરબારગઢ ભણી હાલ્યા. એટલામા તો જોધાભગતે કાળને ભાળ્યો એટલે પુછયુ કે એલા તુ કોણ છો? ક્યારે કાળ કહે કે હુ તો કાળ છુ ને તમને લેવા આવ્યો છું. આ સાંભળી જોધાભગત બોલ્યા કે હુ તો સ્વામિનારાયણ પૃભુ નો ભગત છુ, માટે તારો લીધો હુ નહી આવું, એમ કહીને પોતે પુર્વે પોતાના નળકાંઠા ના ખેતરમાં ગાયની સીંહ સ્વરુપે આવેલા કાળથી રક્ષા કરી તી એ વાત કહીને કહ્યું કે મારી એક ડાંગથી તને દીશા ને લઘુ થય ગયેલું, હુ સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાનનો એવો આશ્રિત છુ, મારે તારા જેવા કાળનો કાંય ભાર નથી, આહી તો એ પૃભુ સાક્ષાત બીરાજે છે, ને એણે જ મને દિવ્યરુપે વર્તમાન ધરાવ્યા છે. તારો શુ ભાર કે તુ મને માર્ય? જેમ તારા હાથમા કાળદંડને પાશ છે એમ મારા પાહે પણ આ સ્વામિનારાયણ પૃભુ ની માળા ને મારી કડીયાળી ડાંગ છે. એક ઘા પડે તો તારો કાળદંડ બધુય ભાંગી જાહે..! ત્યારે કાળ કહે કે ભગત..! હુ પણ એજ પૃભુ નો જ આશ્રીત છુ ને એની સેવા મા જ છુ, હુ ભગવાન ના ભક્તો માટે દેવસ્વરુપ ને પાપી જીવને ભયંકર સ્વરુપ લાગુ છુુ. આપણે બેઉ ગુરુભાઇ છઇ, એક કામ કરો તમારે જીવવું હોય તો તમે મહારાજ ને પુછી રાખજો હુ કાલે પાછો તમને લેવા આવીશ. આમ કહી કાળ ગયો. એટલા મા ગોવિંદ બાબર ના કહેણે મહારાજ જોધાભગત ને દર્શન દેવા વંડે પધાર્યા. મહારાજ ભગત ના ખાટલે ઉભા થકા બોલ્યા કે જોધાભગત..! શુ ઇચ્છા છે? ત્યારે જોધાભગતે કાળ આવ્યા ની સર્વહકિક્ત કહી ને બોલ્યા કે હે મહારાજ…! મારે હજુ જીવવા ની ઘણી લાલચ છે ને બધી વાસના ટાળીને પછે મરવું છે. ત્યારે મહારાજ કહે કે તુ શુરવિર થઇને શુ આમ મોતથી બીએ છે..? તારા દેહની વૃતિઓ પાછી વાળ્ય. આમ મહારાજે વાત્ય કરી ત્યાતો તુરંત જ જોધાભગતે દેહને કાકવિષ્ટા તુલ્ય ભાળ્યો ને ચીસ પાડી. શ્રીજીમહારાજે માથે હાથ મુકયો ને બોલ્યા કે હવે જીવવું છે ? તો જોધાભગત બોલ્યા કે હે મહારાજ..! આ દેહ ના હાડ માંસ ના લોચા ને જોતા એ દુખનું તો મોઢે વર્ણન થાય એમ નથી..! મહારાજ કહે હવે તારે વાસના હોય ત્યાં સુધી જીવ ને સેવા કર..! જા તુ બીજા ત્રીહ વરહ જીવીશ..! અમારુ વચન વૃથા થાય નહી. પછી જોઘોભગત બોલ્યા કે હે મહારાજ કાલે ઓલો કાળ મને લેવા આવશે, તેને હુ શુ કહુ ? ત્યારે શ્રીજી મહારાજ કહે કે એને કેજે કે મને શ્રીજીમહારાજે ત્રીસ વરહ જીવવા ની આજ્ઞા આપી છે. પછે જોધાભગતને શ્રીહરિએ શ્રીકૃષ્ણભગવાન સ્વરુપે દર્શન દીધું, સર્વ ગોપ-ગોપીઓ દેખાણી, વૃંદાવનને જમુનાજી નો કાઠો દેખાણો ને ત્યાં પોતે ગોપ હતો એ પુરવાશ્રમ દેખાણું. પોતે શ્રીકૃષ્ણ ભગવાન વૃંદાવનમાં રાસમંડળ રમેલા હતા એ પણ ભાળ્યું. બધાને આ સર્વે હકિકત કહી સંભળાવી. થોડીવાર શ્રીજીમહારાજ વળી પાછા દરબારગઢ પધાર્યા. બીજે દિવસ ફરીને કાળ આવ્યો એટલે જોધાભગતે એમને ત્રીહ વરહે આવવાનું શ્રીજીમહારાજ નુ વચન કહ્યું એટલે પૃણામ કરીને ચાલ્યો ગયો. પોતે બીમારી માથી સાજા થયા ને બીજા ત્રીહ વરહ હેમખેમ જીવ્યા ને પછે અક્ષરધામ સીધાવ્યા. જોધાભગત કાયમ કહેતા કે શ્રીહરિએ ત્રીહ વરહની મુદત દીધી છ ને એટલા મા મારે મારુ કામ કરી લેવુ છે.

गढ़पुर के जोधाभगत और काल का संवाद
गढ़पुर में जहाँ राइबाई माँ के कमरे (ओरडे) हैं, वहाँ एक बाड़ा था और वहाँ दादा खाचर की भैंसों का झुंड रखा जाता था। परम भक्त जोधाभगत वहाँ रहकर उनकी भली-भाँति सार-संभाल करते थे। श्रीजी महाराज प्रायः वहाँ पधारते और जोधाभगत के साथ हँसी-मज़ाक व विनोद करते थे।
एक बार जोधाभगत बीमार पड़े। खाट पर लेटे-लेते उन्होंने गोविंद बाबर से कहा, “गोविंद..! मुझे लगता है कि मेरी आयु अब पूरी होने को आई है। यदि श्रीजी महाराज मुझे दर्शन देने पधारें तो कितना अच्छा हो..! तुम दरबारगढ़ जाओ और महाराज से विनती करो कि जोधा आपको दर्शन देने के लिए बुला रहा है।” गोविंद बाबर ने कहा, “मैं अभी जाकर महाराज तक आपका समाचार पहुँचाता हूँ,” और वे दरबारगढ़ की ओर चल पड़े।
इतने में जोधाभगत ने काल को देखा, तो पूछा, “अरे, तुम कौन हो?” तब काल ने कहा, “मैं काल हूँ और तुम्हें लेने आया हूँ।” यह सुनकर जोधाभगत निर्भीकता से बोले, “मैं तो स्वामिनारायण प्रभु का अनन्य भक्त हूँ, इसलिए तुम्हारे ले जाने से कदापि नहीं आऊँगा।” फिर उन्होंने स्मरण कराया कि पूर्व में नलकांठा के अपने खेत में उन्होंने गाय की रक्षा सिंह रूपी काल से की थी, और कहा, “मेरी एक ही लाठी (डांग) के प्रहार से तुम्हारी क्या दशा हो गई थी! मैं स्वामिनारायण भगवान का ऐसा शरणागत भक्त हूँ कि मुझे तुम्हारे जैसे काल का लेशमात्र भी भय नहीं है। यहाँ तो वे प्रभु साक्षात विराजमान हैं, और उन्होंने ही मुझे दिव्य रूप से वर्तमान धारण कराए हैं। तुम्हारा क्या सामर्थ्य कि तुम मुझे मार सको? जैसे तुम्हारे हाथ में कालदंड और पाश हैं, वैसे ही मेरे पास भी स्वामिनारायण प्रभु की कंठी-माला और मेरी कड़ियाली डांग (मजबूत छल्लेदार लाठी) है। यदि एक घाव पड़ जाए तो तुम्हारा कालदंड चूर-चूर हो जाएगा..!” तब काल ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा, “हे भक्तराज..! मैं भी उन्हीं प्रभु का आश्रित हूँ और उन्हीं की सेवा में हूँ। मैं भगवान के भक्तों के लिए देवस्वरूप और पापी जीवों के लिए अत्यंत भयानक रूप प्रतीत होता हूँ। इस नाते हम दोनों तो गुरुभाई ही हैं! यदि आप और जीना चाहते हैं, तो एक काम कीजिए—आप महाराज से पूछ रखिए, मैं कल पुनः आपको लेने आऊँगा।” ऐसा कहकर काल चला गया।
इतने में गोविंद बाबर के निवेदन पर श्रीजी महाराज जोधाभगत को दर्शन देने बाड़े में पधारे। महाराज भक्त की खाट के पास खड़े होकर बोले, “जोधाभगत..! तुम्हारी क्या इच्छा है?” तब जोधाभगत ने काल के आने का सारा वृत्तांत कह सुनाया और बोले, “हे महाराज..! मुझे अभी और जीने की लालसा है; मैं अपनी समस्त वासनाओं को पूर्णतः समाप्त करके ही देहत्याग करना चाहता हूँ।” तब महाराज बोले, “तुम शूरवीर होकर मृत्यु से इस प्रकार क्यों डरते हो? अपनी देह की वृत्तियों को अंतर्मुख करो।” जैसे ही श्रीजी महाराज ने यह वचन कहे, तुरंत ही जोधाभगत को यह नश्वर देह कौवे की विष्ठा के समान घिनौनी प्रतीत हुई और वे चीख पड़े। श्रीजी महाराज ने उनके सिर पर हाथ रखा और बोले, “अब बोलो, क्या और जीना है?” तब जोधाभगत बोले, “हे महाराज..! इस देह के हाड़-मांस के लोथड़ों को देखकर जो घृणा और दुःख होता है, उसका वाणी से वर्णन नहीं हो सकता..!” महाराज ने कृपा करके कहा, “अब जब तक तुम्हारी वासना हो, तब तक जियो और भक्ति-सेवा करो! जाओ, तुम और तीस वर्ष जीओगे..! हमारा वचन कभी व्यर्थ नहीं होता।” फिर जोधाभगत बोले, “हे महाराज! कल वह काल मुझे पुनः लेने आएगा, तब मैं उससे क्या कहूँगा?” तब श्रीजी महाराज ने फरमाया, “उससे कह देना कि मुझे श्रीजी महाराज ने और तीस वर्ष जीने की आज्ञा दी है।” तत्पश्चात श्रीहरि ने जोधाभगत को साक्षात श्रीकृष्ण भगवान के स्वरूप में दिव्य दर्शन दिए। उन्हें समस्त गोप-गोपियों, दिव्य वृंदावन तथा यमुनाजी के तट के दर्शन हुए, जहाँ उन्हें अपने पूर्वाश्रम का भान हुआ कि वे स्वयं भी एक गोप थे। उन्होंने श्रीकृष्ण भगवान की वृंदावन में खेली गई दिव्य रासलीला का भी प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन किया। जोधाभगत ने यह समस्त अलौकिक वृत्तांत सभी को सुनाया।
थोड़ी देर बाद श्रीजी महाराज पुनः दरबारगढ़ लौट पधारे। अगले दिन जब काल पुनः आया, तो जोधाभगत ने उसे तीस वर्ष और जीने का श्रीजी महाराज का वचन सुना दिया। यह सुनकर काल नतमस्तक होकर प्रणाम करके चला गया। जोधाभगत बीमारी से स्वस्थ हो गए और पूरे तीस वर्ष सकुशल जीवन व्यतीत कर भक्ति-सेवा करते रहे, और अंत में परमधाम अक्षरधाम सिधारे। जोधाभगत सदा कहते रहते थे, “श्रीहरि ने मुझे तीस वर्ष की अवधि दी है, अतः इस समय में मुझे अपने आत्म-कल्याण का समस्त कार्य सिद्ध कर लेना है।”

Jodhabhagat of Gadhpur and His Dialogue with Kaal
In Gadhpur, near the residential quarters of Raibai Maa, there was an enclosure where Dada Khachar’s herd of buffaloes was kept. The supreme devotee Jodhabhagat lived there and looked after them with great care and devotion. Shriji Maharaj frequently visited the place and engaged in affectionate humor and joyous banter with Jodhabhagat.
Once, Jodhabhagat fell seriously ill. Lying on his cot, he said to Govind Babar, “Govind! I feel that my life’s span is drawing to an end. How wonderful it would be if Shriji Maharaj came to grace me with His divine darshan! Please go to the Darbargarh and inform Maharaj that Jodha is calling Him for darshan.” Govind Babar replied, “I shall go immediately and convey your message to Maharaj,” and hurried towards the Darbargarh.
In the meantime, Jodhabhagat saw Kaal (the personification of time and death) approaching. He asked, “Who are you?” Kaal replied, “I am Kaal, and I have come to take you away.” Hearing this, Jodhabhagat fearlessly declared, “I am a devoted follower of Lord Swaminarayan; I will certainly not come with you!” Reminding Kaal of how he had previously protected a cow from Kaal appearing in the form of a lion in his field at Nalkantha, he added, “With just a single blow of my staff, you were terrified! I am a devout refuge of Bhagwan Swaminarayan; I hold no fear of the likes of you. The Supreme Lord Himself resides here in person, and He has personally initiated me into the sacred vows. What power do you have to strike me down? Just as you hold the staff of death and noose in your hands, I hold Lord Swaminarayan’s sacred rosary and my sturdy iron-ringed staff (kadiyali dang). A single strike will shatter your staff of death into pieces!” Hearing this, Kaal humbly submitted, “O Bhagat! I too am an obedient servant and dependent of that very same Lord. For the devotees of God, I appear in a divine and gentle form, whereas for sinful souls, I manifest in a terrifying form. In that sense, we are both disciple-brothers! If you wish to live longer, please consult Maharaj; I shall return tomorrow to take you.” Saying this, Kaal departed.
Meanwhile, upon hearing Govind Babar’s plea, Shriji Maharaj arrived at the enclosure to grant darshan to Jodhabhagat. Standing beside the devotee’s cot, Maharaj asked, “Jodhabhagat, what is your wish?” Jodhabhagat narrated the entire encounter with Kaal and pleaded, “O Maharaj! I still harbor a desire to live; I wish to extinguish all worldly attachments before departing from this body.” Maharaj smiled and said, “You are a courageous soul, why do you fear death like this? Turn your mind and senses inward, away from bodily attachment.” As soon as Maharaj uttered these words, Jodhabhagat perceived his physical body as utter filth (like crow droppings) and cried out in revulsion. Shriji Maharaj placed His compassionate hand upon his head and asked, “Now tell Me, do you still wish to live?” Jodhabhagat humbly replied, “O Maharaj! Looking at this wretched heap of flesh and bones, the misery of bodily existence is beyond words!” Maharaj graciously said, “Now, live until your desires are completely dispelled, and engage in devotion and service! Go, you shall live for another thirty years! Our divine promise shall never fail.” Jodhabhagat then asked, “O Maharaj, when Kaal comes again tomorrow to take me, what should I say to him?” Shriji Maharaj instructed, “Tell him that Shriji Maharaj has commanded you to live for thirty more years.” Thereafter, Shri Hari granted Jodhabhagat divine darshan in the form of Lord Shri Krishna. He revealed the divine vision of all the gopas and gopis, the holy land of Vrindavan, and the sacred banks of the Yamuna River, where Jodhabhagat recognized his previous birth as a cowherd friend (gopa) of the Lord. He also witnessed Lord Krishna performing the divine Raas-lila in Vrindavan. Jodhabhagat joyfully shared this divine experience with everyone.
After some time, Shriji Maharaj returned to the Darbargarh. The next day, when Kaal returned, Jodhabhagat conveyed Shriji Maharaj’s boon granting him thirty more years of life. Hearing this, Kaal bowed reverently and departed. Jodhabhagat completely recovered from his illness, lived blissfully in divine devotion and service for another thirty years, and then ascended to Akshardham. Jodhabhagat would always say, “Shri Hari has granted me a span of thirty years, and within this time, I must accomplish the supreme goal of my soul.”
