એક વખત શ્રીજીમહારાજ સંતો-ભક્તો સાથે કચ્છ દેશમાં વિચરણ કરતા હતા. નદીના તટમાં બેસી મહારાજે રવજી સુથારને ગામમાંથી ટીમણ (ભોજન) લઈ આવવા આજ્ઞા કરી.

કચ્છના ગરાસિયા અદોજી અને દીકરીઓને દૂધપીતી કરવાનો કુરિવાજ નાબૂદ
એક વખત શ્રીજીમહારાજ સંતો-ભક્તો સાથે કચ્છ દેશમાં વિચરણ કરતા હતા. નદીના તટમાં વિશ્રામ કરતાં મહારાજે રવજી સુથારને ગામમાંથી ટીમણ (ભોજન) લઈ આવવા આજ્ઞા કરી.
રવજી સુથાર ભોજન લઈને પાછા વળતા હતા ત્યારે માર્ગમાં ધમડકા ગામના ગરાસિયા ચાર ભાઈઓ—અદોજી, કલ્યાણસિંહજી, રામસિંહજી અને રાયધણજી સામા મળ્યા. રાયધણજીએ પૂછ્યું, “રવજીભાઈ! આ ગામના કેડે ક્યાં જાવ છો?” રવજીભાઈએ કહ્યું, “સાક્ષાત્ પૂર્ણપુરુષોત્તમ શ્રીહરિ નદીના પટમાં બિરાજમાન છે, તેમના માટે ટીમણ લઈ જાઉં છું.” ઈષ્ટદેવનાં દર્શન થશે જાણી ચારેય ગરાસિયા ભાઈઓ હર્ષભેર સાથે ચાલ્યા.
શ્રીહરિએ ભોજન આરોગીને પ્રસાદીનો થાળ વધાર્યો અને કહ્યું, “ગરાસિયા ભક્તો! આ પ્રસાદી જમશો? જો જમશો તો સંસારમાંથી મુક્ત થઈ અમારા થઈ જશો!” અદોજી બોલ્યા, “હે પ્રભુ! આપના હાથની પ્રસાદી તો બ્રહ્માદિક દેવોનેય દુર્લભ છે; એ અમને મળે તો અમારો આ મનુષ્ય જન્મ સાર્થક થાય!” ચારેય ભાઈઓએ પ્રેમથી મહાપ્રસાદ લીધો. શ્રીજીમહારાજે તેમને ઉપદેશ આપતાં કહ્યું, “ચોર્યાસી લાખ યોનિમાં આ માનવદેહ મળવો અતિ દુર્લભ છે. માટે સંસારમાં અટવાયા વિના મોક્ષનો માર્ગ પકડો. અને અમારું વચન પાળવું હોય તો સૌથી પહેલાં તમારી જ્ઞાતિમાં ચાલતો દીકરીઓને જન્મતાં જ દૂધપીતી કરી મારી નાખવાનો ઘોર કુરિવાજ કાયમ માટે બંધ કરો! આ અતિ ભયંકર સ્ત્રી-બાળ હત્યાનું પાપ છે.”
અદોજીએ નમ્રતાપૂર્વક પોતાની મુશ્કેલી રજૂ કરી, “હે મહારાજ! જો અમે દીકરીઓને જીવતી રાખીએ તો અમારી જ્ઞાતિમાં લોકલાજ જાય, સૌ મશ્કરી કરે અને કહે કે તમે કોઈના સાળા-સસરા થશો! વળી મોટો દહેજ આપતાં અમારો ગરાસ પણ વેચાઈ જાય.” ત્યારે સમાજસુધારક શ્રીહરિએ દ્રઢતાપૂર્વક કહ્યું, “તમે અમારા આશ્રિત છો, તો તમે શરૂઆત કરો! બીજા ગરાસિયાઓ પણ તમારા વર્તનથી શીખશે. જો તમે અમારું વચન માનશો તો અમે તમને અમારા અક્ષરધામમાં લઈ જઈશું. અને જે જ્ઞાતિજનો તમારી મશ્કરી કરે છે, ભવિષ્યમાં ટોપીવાળો અંગ્રેજ રાજા આવશે ત્યારે એ જ કાયદો દંડ કરીને સૌ પાસે પળાવશે!”
શ્રીહરિના આ દિવ્ય વચનો સાંભળી અદોજી વગેરે ચારેય ભાઈઓએ હાથ જોડી પ્રતિજ્ઞા લીધી: “હે પ્રભુ! આપના ચરણોની સાક્ષીએ અમે આજે પ્રણ લઈએ છીએ કે અમે ક્યારેય દીકરીને મારીશું નહીં અને કોઈને મારવા પણ નહીં દઈએ!” શ્રીહરિના આશીર્વાદથી કચ્છ અને કાઠિયાવાડના સત્સંગી રજપૂત, કાઠી અને અન્ય ક્ષત્રિય પરિવારોએ આ કુરિવાજનો કાયમ માટે ત્યાગ કર્યો, જેનાથી સમાજમાં ક્રાંતિકારી પરિવર્તન આવ્યું.

कच्छ के गरासिया अदोजी और कन्या-शिशु हत्या के कुरीति का उन्मूलन
एक बार श्रीजी महाराज संतों और भक्तों के साथ कच्छ देश में विचरण कर रहे थे। एक नदी के किनारे विश्राम करते हुए महाराज ने भक्त रवजी सुथार से गाँव से भोजन (टीमण) लाने को कहा।
जब रवजी सुथार भोजन लेकर लौट रहे थे, तो मार्ग में धमड़का गाँव के चार गरासिया भ्राता—अदोजी, कल्याणसिंहजी, रामसिंहजी और रायधणजी मिले। जब उन्हें ज्ञात हुआ कि साक्षात् भगवान स्वामीनारायण नदी तट पर पधारे हैं, तो वे अत्यंत हर्षित होकर दर्शन हेतु साथ चल पड़े।
महाराज ने भोजन कर थाल का महाप्रसाद उन्हें देते हुए विनोद में कहा, “गरासिया भक्तों! यदि यह प्रसाद पाओगे, तो हमारे रंग में रंग जाओगे!” अदोजी ने हाथ जोड़कर कहा, “हे प्रभु! आपके करकमलों का प्रसाद तो देवताओं को भी दुर्लभ है; यदि यह हमें मिल जाए तो हमारा जीवन धन्य हो जाए!” चारों भाइयों ने भक्तिपूर्वक महाप्रसाद ग्रहण किया। श्रीजी महाराज ने उपदेश देते हुए कहा, “चौरासी लाख योनियों में भटकने के बाद यह दुर्लभ मनुष्य देह प्राप्त हुआ है। अतः व्यर्थ प्रपंच छोड़कर मोक्ष का विचार कीजिए। और यदि आप हमारी आज्ञा मानना चाहते हैं, तो सर्वप्रथम अपनी जाति में प्रचलित नवजात कन्याओं को ‘दूधपीती’ (दूध के बर्तन में डुबोकर मार डालने) की घोर क्रूर प्रथा को सदा के लिए बंद कीजिए! यह महापाप है।”
अदोजी ने सामाजिक विवशता प्रकट की, “महाराज! यदि हम कन्या को जीवित रखेंगे, तो समाज में उपहास होगा, लोग संबंधियों के ताने देंगे और विवाह में भारी दहेज देने के कारण हमारी जागीरें बिक जाएँगी।” तब महान समाज-उद्धारक श्रीहरि ने निर्भीकता से कहा, “आप हमारे अनन्य भक्त हैं, अतः इस क्रांति का शुभारंभ आप कीजिए! आपका आदर्श देखकर अन्य समाज भी सुधरेगा। यदि आप हमारा वचन मानेंगे, तो हम आपको अक्षरधाम में स्थान देंगे। और जो लोग आज आपकी हँसी उड़ा रहे हैं, भविष्य में आने वाला टोपीवाला (अंग्रेज) शासक कठोर दंड देकर यही कानून सबसे मनवाएगा!”
प्रभु के वचनों ने चारों भाइयों का हृदय परिवर्तित कर दिया। अदोजी ने भाइयों सहित संकल्प लिया: “हे कृपानिधान! हम आपके पावन चरणों में प्रतिज्ञा करते हैं कि आज से हम कभी किसी कन्या-शिशु की हत्या नहीं करेंगे और समाज में भी इसका कड़ा विरोध करेंगे!” श्रीजी महाराज के इस पावन संकल्प से कच्छ और सौराष्ट्र के राजपूत, काठी और अन्य समाजों से यह कुप्रथा सदा के लिए समाप्त हो गई।

Garasiya Adoji of Kutch: Abolishing the Practice of Female Infanticide
While touring the arid lands of Kutch with His disciples, Bhagwan Swaminarayan paused to rest on the banks of a dry riverbed and dispatched devotee Ravji Suthar to the nearest village to fetch simple food (timan).
On his return with provisions, Ravji met four Garasiya Rajput brothers from the village of Dhamadka: Adoji, Kalyansinhji, Ramsinhji, and Raydhanji. Thrilled to learn that the Supreme Lord was gracing their riverbank, the four warriors accompanied Ravji to seek Shrihari’s holy darshan.
After partaking of the meal, Shrihari playfully offered them the sanctified remnants: “Noble Garasiyas! If you accept this prasad, you will be enchanted and become completely Ours!” Adoji answered with profound reverence: “O Supreme Lord! The sanctified food from Your lotus hands is coveted even by Brahma and the gods; if we receive it, our human birth will attain fulfillment!” All four brothers partook of the prasad with immense joy. Maharaj then delivered a transformative discourse: “After wandering through 8.4 million lifeforms, the soul attains this precious human birth. Do not waste it in ignorance. If you truly wish to obey Our commandment, you must immediately eradicate the horrific, barbaric custom of doodh-piti (drowning newborn infant daughters in bowls of milk) prevalent in your community! It is an unforgivable sin of female infanticide.”
Adoji expressed their deep-seated cultural anxieties: “Maharaj! If we let our daughters live, our clan will subject us to intense ridicule and social ostracism. Furthermore, the ruinous burden of dowry will force us to forfeit our ancestral lands and estates.” Shrihari responded with uncompromising moral clarity: “You are Our devotees; therefore, you must lead this moral awakening! Observing your noble example, the rest of the community will gradually reform. If you honor Our words, We shall personally welcome you into Akshardham. As for those who mock you today—mark Our words—the white-hatted British rulers will soon arrive and enforce this very ban with severe penal imprisonment and forfeiture of lands!”
Stirred to the depths of their consciences by Shrihari’s divine authority, Adoji and his brothers bowed low and took a solemn oath: “O Lord! In Your sacred presence, we pledge today never to take the life of a female infant, and to oppose and penalize anyone who attempts it!” Inspired by Shrihari’s divine mandate, countless Rajput, Kathi, and Kshatriya households throughout Kutch and Saurashtra discarded this ghastly tradition forever, sparking a monumental social renaissance for women’s rights in western India.
