કચ્છના માંડવી બંદરે ચાંપશી શેઠ એટલે શ્રીજીમહારાજના દિવ્ય મહિમાને યથાર્થ જાણનારા અનન્ય પ્રેમી ભક્ત. માંડવીમાં તેમના ઘેર મહારાજ ખૂબ રહ્યા છે અને અનેક લીલાઓ કરી છે.

માંડવીના ચાંપશી શેઠને ઘેર જોગીવેશે આવેલા અક્ષરમુક્તની પૂજા
કચ્છના માંડવી બંદરે ચાંપશી શેઠ એટલે શ્રીજીમહારાજના દિવ્ય મહિમાને યથાર્થ જાણનારા અનન્ય પ્રેમી ભક્ત. માંડવીમાં તેમના ઘેર મહારાજ સંતો સહિત ઘણા દિવસો રોકાતા અને અનેક અલૌકિક લીલાઓ કરતા.
એક વખત માંડવીમાં ચાંપશી શેઠના ઘરે શ્રીજીમહારાજનો મુકામ હતો. મહારાજ સંતો સાથે વેદાંતની સભામાં જવા તૈયાર થતા હતા, તે સમયે એક ભાવિક સત્સંગી બહેન શ્રીજીમહારાજની પૂજા કરવાનો સામાન લઈને આવ્યાં. તેમણે મહારાજને પૂજા સ્વીકારવા પ્રાર્થના કરી. મહારાજે કહ્યું, “બહેન! આ પૂજાનો સામાન અહીં ઓસરીમાં રાખો, અમે હમણાં સભામાંથી આવીએ ત્યારે પૂજા કરજો.” તે બહેન મીઠાઈની માટલી, ચંદનનો કટોરો, અબીલ, ગુલાલ, કંકુ અને તાજા પુષ્પોનો હાર ઓસરીમાં એકબાજુ મૂકીને ગયાં.
થોડીવારમાં એક અદ્ભુત તેજસ્વી જોગી ત્યાં આવ્યા અને આંગણામાં ઊભા રહી ઘેરા સાદે નાદ કર્યો: “નારાયણ હરે! સચ્ચિદાનંદ પ્રભુ!” ચાંપશી શેઠના પરિવારજનો ભિક્ષા આપવા બહાર આવ્યા. પરંતુ સાક્ષાત્ સર્વજ્ઞ શ્રીહરિ તો જાણી ગયા કે આ કોઈ સામાન્ય સાધુ નથી, પણ અક્ષરધામના દિવ્ય મુક્ત દર્શને આવ્યા છે! મહારાજે હરખાઈને સાદ કર્યો, “ઓરા આવો, જોગીરાજ!” તે મુક્ત અત્યંત પ્રસન્ન થઈ પ્રભુની સન્મુખ આવીને બેઠા. શ્રીજીમહારાજે પેલી બહેને મૂકેલો પૂજાપો મંગાવ્યો અને તે જોગીની પૂજા શરૂ કરી!
સૌપ્રથમ મહારાજે મીઠાઈની આખી માટલી તે જોગીની ઝોળીમાં ઠાલવી દીધી! તે મુક્ત બે હાથે પ્રસાદી આરોગવા લાગ્યા. ત્યારબાદ મહારાજે સુગંધી પુષ્પહાર તેમના કંઠમાં પહેરાવ્યો, કપાળે ચંદનનો મોટો વાટકો ચર્ચી દીધો. પછી તો ગુલાલનો આખો વાટકો તેમના મસ્તક પર ઊંધો વાળ્યો! તે પછી અબીલનો વાટકો અને કંકુનો વાટકો પણ મસ્તક પર ઠાલવી દીધો! તે જોગીરાજનું સમગ્ર શરીર, જટા અને ઝોળી રંગબેરંગી અબીલ-ગુલાલ અને કંકુથી છવાઈ ગયાં! મહારાજે આવી અદ્ભુત પૂજા કરી તેથી જોગીરાજ પરમાનંદમાં ઝૂમી ઊઠ્યા. શ્રીહરિએ હાથના ઈશારે વિદાય આપી. તે મુક્ત પ્રભુના મુખારવિંદ સામે અમીદ્રષ્ટિ રાખતાં રાખતાં પાછા પગલે ચાલ્યા અને જોતજોતામાં આકાશમાર્ગે અંતર્ધાન થઈ ગયા! સૌ સંતો-હરિભક્તો આ દિવ્ય લીલા જોઈ આશ્ચર્યચકિત થઈ ગયા.
માંડવીમાં ચાંપશી શેઠનું તે પાવન નિવાસસ્થાન આજે સ્વામિનારાયણ મંદિરને અર્પણ થયેલું છે. સદગુરુ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામીએ ભક્તચિંતામણીના પ્રકરણ ૧૧૬, કડી ૪૫માં ગાયું છે:
શાહ સુંદરજી ચાંપશીભાઈ, એહાદિ જન માંડવી માંઈ..!
મેપો થોભણ ભક્ત સુથાર, કાનુબાઈ ને જીવો ઉદાર..!!

मांडवी के चांपशी सेठ के घर जोगीवेशी अक्षरमुक्त की पूजा
कच्छ के मांडवी बंदरगाह के निवासी चांपशी सेठ श्रीजी महाराज के परब्रह्म स्वरूप के यथार्थ मर्मज्ञ और अनन्य निष्ठावान भक्त थे। मांडवी में उनके आवास पर महाराज संतों सहित दीर्घकाल तक निवास करते और अलौकिक लीलाएँ रचते थे।
एक बार मांडवी में चांपशी सेठ के घर श्रीजी महाराज का मुकाम था। महाराज संतों के साथ एक वेदांत सभा में जाने की तैयारी कर रहे थे। उसी समय एक समर्पित सत्संगी बहन महाराज की पूजा की थाली लेकर उपस्थित हुईं और पूजा स्वीकार करने की विनती की। महाराज ने कहा, “बहन! यह पूजा सामग्री यहीं बरामदे में रख दीजिए, हम सभा से लौटकर आपकी पूजा स्वीकार करेंगे।” वे बहन मिठाई की मटकी, चंदन का कटोरा, अबीर, गुलाल, कुंकुम और पुष्पहार वहीं रखकर चली गईं।
कुछ ही क्षणों में एक तेजस्वी सिद्ध जोगी द्वार पर प्रकट हुए और गंभीर नाद किया: “नारायण हरे! सच्चिदानंद प्रभु!” सेठ के परिजन भिक्षा लेकर बाहर आए, किंतु अंतर्यामी श्रीहरि समझ गए कि यह कोई सामान्य भिक्षुक नहीं, अपितु साक्षात् अक्षरधाम के दिव्य मुक्त हैं जो प्रभु-दर्शन हेतु पधारे हैं! महाराज ने आसन से उठकर पुकारा, “आइए जोगीराज, निकट आइए!” वे दिव्य मुक्त आनंदविभोर होकर प्रभु के सम्मुख बैठ गए। श्रीजी महाराज ने उस बहन द्वारा छोड़ी गई संपूर्ण पूजन सामग्री मँगवाई और उस मुक्त की अद्भुत पूजा प्रारंभ की!
सर्वप्रथम महाराज ने मिठाई की पूरी मटकी उस जोगी की झोली में उड़ेल दी! वे मुक्त दोनों हाथों से आनंदपूर्वक महाप्रसाद पाने लगे। तत्पश्चात श्रीहरि ने दिव्य पुष्पहार उनके गले में पहनाया, माथे पर चंदन का लेप किया। फिर गुलाल का पूरा कटोरा उनके सिर पर उलट दिया! उसके बाद अबीर और कुंकुम के भरे हुए कटोरे भी उनके मस्तक पर उड़ेल दिए! वह दिव्य जोगी सिर से पाँव तक अबीर-गुलाल और कुंकुम के दिव्य रंगों से सराबोर हो गया! प्रभु के इस अद्भुत सत्कार से वे अवधूत परमानंद में मग्न हो गए। श्रीहरि ने हाथ के संकेत से प्रस्थान की अनुमति दी। वे मुक्त प्रभु के मुखारविंद पर एकटक दृष्टि टिकाए हुए, उल्टे कदमों से पीछे हटते गए और देखते ही देखते आकाश मार्ग में अदृश्य हो गए!
मांडवी में चांपशी सेठ का वह पावन घर आज स्वामीनारायण मंदिर के रूप में सुशोभित है। सद्गुरु निष्कुलानंद स्वामी ने भक्तचिंतामणि (प्रकरण 116, कड़ी 45) में उनकी महिमा गाई है:
शाह सुंदरजी चांपशीभाई, एहादि जन मांडवी मांई..!
मेपो थोभण भक्त सुथार, कानुबाई ने जीवो उदार..!!

Mandvi’s Champshi Sheth: Divine Worship of an Akshar Mukta in Ascetic Attire
In the bustling seaport of Mandvi in Kutch, Champshi Sheth was celebrated as an exceptionally enlightened devotee who understood the supreme divinity of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. Maharaj frequently resided at his sprawling home along with hundreds of ascetics, gracing the town with celestial memories.
Once, while lodging at Champshi Sheth’s residence, Shriji Maharaj was preparing to attend a theological symposium on Vedanta with the sadhus. At that juncture, a devout Satsangi woman arrived with elaborate ceremonial items to worship Maharaj. Maharaj gently told her, “Devoted sister, leave your worship items here on the veranda; we shall receive your worship upon returning from the assembly.” She placed a clay jar of rich milk sweets, a bowl of fresh sandalwood paste, bowls of abeel, gulaal, vermilion (kumkum), and a garland of fresh fragrant flowers on the veranda.
Shortly thereafter, a radiant ascetic dressed as a wandering jogi entered the outer courtyard and called out with a resonant, vibrating cry: “Narayan Hare! Sachchidanand Prabhu!” The household members stepped out to offer grain, but the omniscient Lord recognized that this was no ordinary mortal mendicant, but a liberated soul (Akshar Mukta) descending from the transcendental realm to seek His darshan! Shrihari called out with overflowing warmth: “Come close, O venerable Jogi!” The ascetic beamed with transcendental ecstasy and sat directly before Maharaj. Shrihari called for the worship items left by the devotee and commenced an extraordinary worship of the ascetic!
First, Maharaj tipped the entire jar of sweets directly into the jogi’s satchel; the ecstatic ascetic began savoring the sanctified delicacies with both hands. Next, Maharaj garlanded him with fragrant flowers and applied a thick bowl of sandalwood paste upon his forehead. Then, with divine playfulness, Maharaj inverted the entire bowl of crimson gulaal powder over his head! He followed this by emptying the entire bowl of silver abeel and the full container of holy kumkum over the ascetic! The jogi’s locks, limbs, and garments were drenched in vibrant cascades of celestial colors! Drunk with divine bliss from this heavenly worship, the jogi bowed repeatedly. Maharaj signaled him to depart; gazing unbroken upon Shrihari’s radiant face, the jogi walked backwards step by step until he dissolved into the open sky before the astonished eyes of all present!
Today, the sacred residence of Champshi Sheth in Mandvi is preserved as part of the Swaminarayan temple. Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami immortalized him in the Bhaktachintamani (Chapter 116, Verse 45):
Shah Sundarji Champshibhai, ehadi jan Mandvi maai..!
Mepo Thobhan bhakt sutaar, Kanubai ne Jivo udaar..!!
