લક્ષ્મીરામ જાની જન્મથી મુમુક્ષુ હતા. તેઓ એકવાર ગિરનાર તીર્થયાત્રા કરવા ગયા હતા તે ત્યાં ગુરુ દત્તાત્રેય ભગવાનના પગલાંનાં દર્શન કરીને પાછા વળ્યા.

લક્ષ્મીરામ જાની જન્મથી મુમુક્ષુ હતા. તેઓ એકવાર ગિરનાર તીર્થયાત્રા કરવા ગયા હતા તે ત્યાં ગુરુ દત્તાત્રેય ભગવાનના પગલાંનાં દર્શન કરીને પાછા વળ્યા. ત્યારે તે પર્વતમાં તપસ્વીઓ જોઈને મનમાં વિચાર્યું કે “આમના ભેળું તપ કર્યું હોય તો સારું; પણ ઘેરે જાઉં ને પરવારીને આવું.’ એમ વિચાર કરીને ઘેર આવ્યા.
પછી કોઈક સમો વિત્યે પોતે સુથરામપર ગામે ચીબુટા નદીએ ના’વા ગયા ને ત્યાં દાતણ કરતા હતા. તેને શ્રીહરિએ આકાશવાણી કરીને પોતાનો નિશ્ચય કરાવ્યો જે, “સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન છે.’ એમ ત્રણ વાર શબ્દ થયો. એટલે પોતાને આશ્ચર્ય થયું ને તેણે ચારેકોર આમતેમ જોયું, પણ કોઈ આજુબાજુમા મનુષ્ય ન દીઠું. પછી વળી શબ્દ થયો જે, ‘સ્વામિનારાયણ ભગવાન છે.’ એમ ફેર ફેર ત્રણ વાર આકાશવાણી થઈ. પછી તો તે નાહી ઘેર જઈને પરવારીને પોતાના ગામે મંદિરમાં આવ્યા. એ સમયે સદગુરુ કૃષ્ણાનંદસ્વામી રામપરાના મંદિરમાં પધાર્યા હતા. પોતે આકાશવાણી ની વાત્ય ને સંતોના નિષ્કામ વર્તમાન ને જોઇને તેમની પાસે વર્તમાન ધારીને શ્રીજીમહારાજનો નિશ્ચય કરીને ઘેર ગયા. પોતે નવા ધર્મને અપનાવ્યો જાણીને એમની બૂઢી માં બોલી કે લક્ષ્મીરામ, તું આ નવો સત્સંગ મેલે તો જ હું ખાઉ, નહિ તો નહિ ખાઉ.” પછી લક્ષમીરામે પોતાની માંને ઘણા ઘણાય મનાવ્યા ને સત્સંગની દિવ્યતા સમજાવી પણ ડોશી તોય માને જ નહી. તે સમે અડગ નિશ્ચયી એવા લક્ષ્મીરામ જાની એમના માને બોલ્યા કે માં તુ સાંભળી લે કે તું મરી જાય તોય હુ સત્સંગ હવે નહિ મેલું.” ત્યારે તે એની એના સંસાર પૃતયે ની વિરક્તી ને જોઇને ડોસી બોલી જે, “તું મને કોલ દે જે હુ સાધુ ન થાવ. કારણ કે મારે ગઢપણ નો તુ એક સહારો છ. પછી લક્ષ્મીરામ બોલ્યા કે તે: “જા, હું સાધુ નહિ થાઉ.” એમ સંસાર મા રહ્યા થકા ઘણાંક વિઘ્ન આવ્યાં તોય સત્સંગ ન મેલ્યો. સમય જતા એકદિવસ માએ લક્ષ્મીરામને કહ્યું કે લક્ષ્મીરામ, તું સ્વામિનારાયણને ભગવાન કહે છે, તે જો મને દર્શન આપે તો હું ભગવાન માનું.” તયારે લક્ષ્મીરામ બોલ્યા કે : “ધ્યાન કરો તો દર્શન આપે.” પછી તે ડોસી એકાદશીને દિવસે રાત્રીએ ચોકો કરીને પાસે ઘીનો દીવો કરીને શ્રીજીમહારાજના ધ્યાનમાં બેઠી તે ઊંઘી ગઈ. પછી શ્રીહરિએ એ વખતે ડોશીને દિવ્ય દર્શન દીધાં ને એમ કહ્યું કે તું લક્ષ્મીરામનો કેમ દ્રોહ કરે છે? ને આ તારી છોડી છે તે પણ તારી બીકે કરીને છાનું અમારું ભજન કરે છે. માટે એ પણ અમારી ભક્ત છે. તેનો દ્રોહ કરીશ મા.” એમ શ્રીહરિએ કહ્યું. એટલે દ્રોહ મેલીને પાંચ માળા ફેરવવા લાગી. પણ ડોશી પોતે પોતાના સમાજમાં મોટેરી હતી એટલે પ્રસિદ્ધ થઇને સત્સંગ કરી શકી નહીં.

सुथरामपर के लक्ष्मीराम जानी की अडिग निष्ठा और माताजी को दिव्य दर्शन
सुथरामपर गाँव के निवासी लक्ष्मीराम जानी जन्म से ही एक सच्चे मुमुक्षु आत्मा थे। एक बार वे गिरनार तीर्थयात्रा पर गए और वहाँ भगवान दत्तात्रेय के पावन चरण-चिह्नों के दर्शन किए। गिरनार के वनों में कठोर तपस्या करते योगियों को देखकर उनके मन में विचार आया कि ‘इनके साथ रहकर तपस्या करूँ तो कितना अच्छा हो; परंतु एक बार घर जाकर सांसारिक दायित्वों से निवृत्त होकर लौटता हूँ।’ ऐसा विचार कर वे घर आ गए।
कुछ समय पश्चात वे सुथरामपर गाँव की चीबुटा नदी के तट पर स्नान करने गए और दातुन कर रहे थे। उस समय करुणावरुणालय श्रीहरि ने आकाशवाणी द्वारा उन्हें अपने परब्रह्म स्वरूप का बोध कराया। अचानक आकाश से गंभीर ध्वनि गूंज उठी: “स्वामीनारायण भगवान हैं!” यह शब्द तीन बार स्पष्ट सुनाई दिया। लक्ष्मीराम चकित होकर चारों ओर देखने लगे, परंतु आसपास कोई भी मनुष्य दिखाई नहीं दिया। फिर पुनः आकाशवाणी हुई: “स्वामीनारायण भगवान हैं!” इस प्रकार तीन-तीन बार दिव्य आकाशवाणी हुई। स्नान कर जब वे गाँव लौटे, तो उन्हें ज्ञात हुआ कि सद्गुरु कृष्णानंद स्वामी समीपवर्ती रामपरा मंदिर में पधारे हैं। उस आकाशवाणी की प्रेरणा और संतों के परम त्यागी व निष्काम जीवन को देखकर लक्ष्मीराम ने तुरंत स्वामी के पास जाकर पंच वर्तमान ग्रहण किए और श्रीजी महाराज को साक्षात् परब्रह्म मानकर सत्संग स्वीकार किया।
जब वे घर पहुँचे और उनकी वृद्ध माता को ज्ञात हुआ कि पुत्र ने नया स्वामीनारायण सत्संग अंगीकार कर लिया है, तो वे रूठकर बोलीं, “लक्ष्मीराम! यदि तू इस नए सत्संग को छोड़ेगा, तभी मैं अन्न-जल ग्रहण करूँगी; अन्यथा भूखी रहकर प्राण त्याग दूँगी!” लक्ष्मीराम ने माता को बहुत समझाया और स्वामीनारायण भगवान की दिव्यता का वर्णन किया, परंतु माता हठ पर अड़ी रहीं। तब अडिग निष्ठावान लक्ष्मीराम ने स्पष्ट शब्दों में कहा, “माताजी! आप सुन लीजिए, यदि आप अपने प्राण भी त्याग देंगी, तब भी मैं यह पावन सत्संग कभी नहीं छोड़ूँगा!” पुत्र की ऐसी अगाध विरक्ति और अटूट निष्ठा देखकर माता ने रोते हुए कहा, “बेटा! कम से कम मुझे यह वचन दे कि तू कभी साधु बनकर घर नहीं छोड़ेगा; क्योंकि मेरे इस बुढ़ापे का एकमात्र सहारा तू ही है।” लक्ष्मीराम ने कहा, “ठीक है माताजी, मैं गृहस्थ में रहकर सत्संग करूँगा और साधु नहीं बनूँगा।”
सांसारिक जीवन में रहते हुए अनेक कष्ट और सामाजिक विरोध आए, परंतु लक्ष्मीराम सत्संग में अडिग रहे। कालांतर में एक दिन माता ने कहा, “लक्ष्मीराम! तू स्वामीनारायण को भगवान कहता है; यदि वे मुझे प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन दें, तभी मैं उन्हें भगवान मानूँगी।” लक्ष्मीराम ने कहा, “माताजी! यदि आप निष्कपट भाव से ध्यान करेंगी, तो वे अवश्य दर्शन देंगे।” एकादशी की रात्रि में माता ने पवित्र स्थान पर गोबर का लेपन किया, घी का दीपक प्रज्वलित किया और श्रीजी महाराज के ध्यान में बैठीं। ध्यान करते-करते उन्हें तंद्रा आ गई। उसी समय पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम श्रीहरि ने माता को अत्यंत दिव्य, चतुर्भुज व तेजस्वी रूप में प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन दिए! प्रभु ने गंभीर स्वर में कहा, “माताजी! आप लक्ष्मीराम से व्यर्थ विरोध क्यों करती हैं? और आपकी पुत्री भी आपके भय से छिपकर हमारा अखंड भजन करती है, वह भी हमारी अनन्य भक्त है। अतः हमारे इन भक्तों का कभी द्रोह मत कीजिए!” साक्षात् प्रभु के अलौकिक दर्शन पाकर माता का अंतःकरण पूरी तरह बदल गया। उन्होंने तुरंत सारा विरोध त्याग दिया और नित्य पाँच माला फेरने का नियम ले लिया।

Laxmiram Jani’s Unshakable Faith and Divine Darshan to His Mother
Laxmiram Jani of Suthrampar village was a spiritual seeker from birth. Once, on a pilgrimage to Mount Girnar, he visited the holy footprints of Lord Dattatreya. Observing ascetics performing intense penance in the rugged hills, a desire arose in his heart: ‘It would be wonderful to practice austerities alongside them; but let me return home first, settle my worldly duties, and then return.’ With this thought, he returned home.
Sometime later, he went to bathe at the Chibuta River near Suthrampar and was cleaning his teeth on the riverbank. At that moment, compassionate Shrihari granted him divine conviction through a disembodied celestial voice (Akashvani). Suddenly, a clear resonance echoed from the sky: “Swaminarayan is God!” The proclamation repeated three times. Laxmiram looked around in astonishment, but there was not a soul in sight. Once again, the celestial voice resonated three more times: “Swaminarayan is God!” After bathing, he returned home and visited the nearby Rampara temple, where Sadguru Krishnanand Swami had arrived. Remembering the divine proclamation and deeply inspired by the sadhus’ spotless virtues and renunciation, Laxmiram accepted initiation into the sacred vows, embracing unshakeable faith in Shriji Maharaj as the Supreme Lord.
When he arrived home, his elderly mother learned that he had adopted the Swaminarayan faith. In fierce opposition, she threatened, “Laxmiram! Only if you renounce this new fellowship will I eat; otherwise, I will starve myself to death!” Laxmiram tried patiently to explain the supreme divinity of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, but she remained obstinate. Facing her ultimatum with unwavering spiritual resolve, Laxmiram declared, “Mother, listen carefully: even if you die, I will never abandon this sacred Satsang!” Seeing her son’s unbending devotion, the mother relented slightly, weeping, “At least pledge to me that you will not become an ascetic monk; for you are the sole support of my old age.” Laxmiram promised, “Very well, mother; I will remain a householder devotee and will not take monastic vows.”
Despite severe societal opposition and hardships, Laxmiram remained steadfast. Years later, his mother said to him, “Laxmiram, you claim Swaminarayan is God; if He grants me His divine darshan directly, only then will I believe.” Laxmiram replied with conviction, “Mother, if you meditate upon Him with a sincere heart, He will surely grant you darshan.” On the sacred night of Ekadashi, the mother sanctified the floor, lit a lamp of pure ghee, and sat in meditation. As she meditated, she drifted into slumber. At that very moment, Purna Purushottam Shrihari appeared before her in a breathtaking, luminous divine vision! Shrihari addressed her with majestic authority: “Mother! Why do you harbor animosity toward Laxmiram? Even your daughter secretly chants Our name out of fear of you; she too is Our dear devotee. Never oppose Our beloved devotees again!” Overwhelmed by the Lord’s divine darshan, the mother’s heart transformed completely. She discarded all skepticism, bowed in reverence, and began chanting five rosaries of the Swaminarayan mahamantra daily.
