નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી અને બરફીની પાંચ તોપો
એકવખત સદગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી, સદગુરુ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી, નિત્યાનંદ સ્વામી ને શુકમુનિ વડોદરા બીરાજતા હતા. વૈરાગ્ય મુર્તિ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી ને એ દિવસે ઉપવાસ હતો. બીજેદિવસે સદગુરુ સંતોએ એમના મંડળના નાના સંતોને કહ્યું કે પારણા માટે નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી ના આસને એક એક પડીયો બરફી-પેંડા મુકી આવો. તે સૌ સંતોએ એમ કર્યું. સદગુરુ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી નાહીને આવ્યા તે એમણે આ પોતાના આસને પાંચ પડીયા બરફીના ભરેલા ઢાંકેલા જોયા, એટલે એમણે તુરંત જ એમના શિષ્ય મોરારચરણ સ્વામી ને પુછયુ કે મોરારચરણ આ શુ ઢાંક્યું છે? ત્યારે મોરારચરણ સ્વામી બોલ્યા કે સદગુરુ સંતોએ તમારા ઉપવાસ ના પારણા કરાવવા બરફી પેંડા ના પડીયા મોકલાવ્યા છે. વૈરાગ્ય મુર્તિ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી એ તો તુરતંજ કેડ્ય બાંધીને જયા સદગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી સભા કરતા હતા ત્યાં જઇને દંડવત કર્યો, એટલે તુરંત જ સદગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામીએ પુછયુ કે સ્વામી કેમ શુ થયું ? આમ કયા ચાલ્યા ? ત્યારે નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી એ સભામા સૌને એક વાત કરી કે…. એક રાજ્ય મા રાજ્ય ના કુંવર ને એક વિધવા ડોશી ગામમાં રેય, એના હારે સ્નેહ ભાવ હશે તે કુંવરે વચન દીધેલું કે માવડી કાય કામકાજ પડે મને ત્યારે જરુર થી કેજો…! એકવાર એ ડોશીની ઝૂંપડીમાં એક કૂતરી ઘરી ગઇ તે ડોશી રાજાના કુંવરને જઇ ને ફરિયાદ કરવા ગઇ. કુંવરે તરત જ રાજના દરબારી ને હૂકમ કરીને તોપ મોકલાવી ને કૂબા ને કૂતરી હારે જ ઉડાવી દીધો. હે ગોપાળ સ્વામી, એમ ઓલી ડોશીના ઠેકાણે હુ છવ ને ભૂખરુપી કૂતરી પેટમાં બેઠી છે. એક તોપના રુપે એક પડીયો બરફી ને પેંડા છે ને રાજકુંવર ની ઠેકાણે તમે સૌ છો. જેમ ડોશીનો કૂબો એક તોપે ઉડી ગયો એમ મારા માથે પાંચ તોપ મંડાણી છ હાલ તો..! તે એમા મારો કૂબો રેહે ખરો..? હુ તો સ્વામી હમણાં જ આયાથી નીકળું છવ એટલે તમારા આશીર્વાદ લેવા આવ્યો છુ. સદગુરુ ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી તો વૈરાગ્ય મુર્તિ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી વાત સાંભળી ને હસી પડ્યા ને બોલ્યા કે સ્વામી, તમે હાથે રોટલા ઘડી ને જમજો પણ અમ હારે રોકાવ. હવે રહોડે ગળ્યું ચિકણું નહી બનાવીએ પણ આપ રોકાઓ.
એમ સદગુરુ નિષ્કુળાનંદ સ્વામી ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી સાથે દાળ-રોટલા ને છાહ વગેરે નિસ્વાદ ભોજનના વચન લઇ ને વડોદરે સત્સંગ વિચરણ મા રોકાયા.

निष्कुलानंद स्वामी और बर्फी की पाँच तोपें
एक समय सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी, सद्गुरु निष्कुलानंद स्वामी, नित्यानंद स्वामी और शुकमुनि वडोदरा में विराजमान थे। वैराग्य की साक्षात मूर्ति निष्कुलानंद स्वामी का उस दिन उपवास (व्रत) था। अगले दिन सद्गुरु संतों ने अपने मंडल के कनिष्ठ (छोटे) संतों से कहा कि पारणा (व्रत खोलने) के लिए निष्कुलानंद स्वामी के आसन पर एक-एक दोना (पड़िया) बर्फी-पेड़े रख आओ। संतों ने वैसा ही किया।
सद्गुरु निष्कुलानंद स्वामी जब स्नान करके लौटे, तो उन्होंने अपने आसन पर बर्फी और पेड़ों से भरे पाँच ढके हुए दोने देखे। उन्होंने तुरंत अपने शिष्य मोरारचरण स्वामी से पूछा, “मोरारचरण! यह क्या ढककर रखा है?” तब मोरारचरण स्वामी ने कहा, “सद्गुरु संतों ने आपके उपवास का पारणा कराने के लिए बर्फी और पेड़े के दोने भेजे हैं।”
वैराग्य मूर्ति निष्कुलानंद स्वामी ने यह सुनते ही तुरंत अपनी कमर कसी और जहाँ सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी सभा कर रहे थे, वहाँ पहुँचकर उन्हें साष्टांग दंडवत प्रणाम किया। सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी ने तुरंत पूछा, “स्वामी! क्या हुआ? आप इस प्रकार कहाँ जा रहे हैं?”
तब निष्कुलानंद स्वामी ने भरी सभा में सबको एक दृष्टांत सुनाते हुए कहा: “एक राज्य में राजा के कुँवर (राजकुमार) का गाँव में रहने वाली एक वृद्ध विधवा माई के साथ बहुत स्नेह था। राजकुमार ने वचन दिया था कि ‘माई! जब भी कोई काम पड़े, मुझे अवश्य बताना!’ एक बार उस वृद्धा की झोपड़ी में एक कुतिया घुस गई। वृद्धा तुरंत राजकुमार के पास जाकर शिकायत करने लगी। राजकुमार ने तत्काल अपने दरबारी को आदेश देकर तोप भिजवाई और तोप के गोले से कुतिया के साथ वृद्धा की झोपड़ी को ही उड़ा दिया!
हे गोपाल स्वामी! उस वृद्धा के स्थान पर मैं हूँ और भूख रूपी कुतिया मेरे पेट में बैठी है। उस एक तोप के रूप में यह बर्फी और पेड़े का एक-एक दोना है, और राजकुमार के स्थान पर आप सब संत हैं! जैसे उस बुढ़िया की झोपड़ी एक ही तोप से उड़ गई थी, वैसे ही मेरे ऊपर तो इस समय पाँच-पाँच तोपें तान दी गई हैं! अब आप ही बताइए, क्या ऐसी दशा में मेरी कुटिया (साधुता व वैराग्य) सुरक्षित रहेगी? स्वामी, इसलिए मैं तो अभी यहाँ से प्रस्थान कर रहा हूँ और केवल आपके आशीर्वाद लेने आया हूँ।”
सद्गुरु गोपालानंद स्वामी वैराग्य मूर्ति निष्कुलानंद स्वामी का यह विनोदपूर्ण और विरक्त भाव सुनकर हँस पड़े और बोले, “स्वामी! आप अपने हाथों से रोटला बनाकर ग्रहण कर लीजिएगा, किंतु हमारे साथ ही रुकिए। अब रसोई में कोई मीठा या चिकना (घी-युक्त) व्यंजन नहीं बनेगा, बस आप यहाँ ठहरिए।”
इस प्रकार सद्गुरु निष्कुलानंद स्वामी, गोपालानंद स्वामी से दाल, रोटला और छाछ जैसे सादे व निस्वाद भोजन का वचन लेकर वडोदरा में सत्संग विचरण के लिए रुके।

Nishkulanand Swami and the Five Cannons of Barfi
Once, Sadguru Gopalanand Swami, Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami, Nityanand Swami, and Shukmuni were residing in Vadodara. That day, the embodiment of detachment, Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami, was observing a fast (upvaas). The following day, for breaking the fast (parana), the senior sadgurus instructed the junior sadhus of their mandal to place bowls (padiyas) filled with sweets—barfi and peda—at Nishkulanand Swami’s seat. The sadhus did so.
When Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami returned after taking his bath, he noticed five covered bowls filled with barfi and peda at his seat. He immediately asked his disciple, Morarcharan Swami, “Morarcharan, what is covered here?” Morarcharan Swami replied, “The senior Sadguru swamis have sent bowls of barfi and peda for breaking your fast.”
Upon hearing this, Nishkulanand Swami, the pinnacle of renunciation and asceticism, instantly tied his cloth around his waist (prepared to depart), walked over to where Sadguru Gopalanand Swami was addressing the assembly, and offered his prostrations (dandvat pranam). Surprised, Sadguru Gopalanand Swami asked, “Swami, what happened? Where are you heading like this?”
Nishkulanand Swami then narrated an insightful parable to everyone in the assembly: “In a certain kingdom, the prince had a fond, affectionate relationship with an elderly widow living in the village. The prince had promised her, ‘Mother, whenever you need any help, be sure to let me know!’ One day, a female stray dog crept into the old woman’s modest hut. The woman went directly to the prince to complain about it. The prince immediately commanded his courtiers to dispatch a cannon, and with a single cannonball, blew away the entire hut along with the dog!
O Gopal Swami! I am like that old woman, and hunger is like the dog residing within my stomach. Each bowl of barfi and peda is like a cannon, and you revered sadhus are like the royal prince! Just as the old woman’s humble hut was blown away by a single cannon, right now five heavy cannons are aimed directly at me! In such circumstances, will the modest hut of my asceticism survive? Therefore, Swami, I am departing from here right this moment and have come only to seek your blessings!”
Hearing this witty yet profound expression of detachment from the austere Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami, Sadguru Gopalanand Swami burst into laughter and said, “Swami, you may bake your own plain rotla with your own hands and partake of it, but please stay with us! We will not prepare any sweet or rich foods in the kitchen anymore; just please do not leave us.”
Thus, obtaining the assurance of simple, non-palatable (nisvad) food such as daal, rotla, and buttermilk from Gopalanand Swami, Sadguru Nishkulanand Swami agreed to stay in Vadodara for satsang vicharan.
