એકવાર શ્રીહરિ વડતાલમાં બીરાજતા હતા, એ વખતે સુરતથી સંઘ દર્શને આવ્યો. બધાએ ભાવે થી દર્શન કર્યા ને મહારાજ સારુ વસ્ત્ર આભૂષણ વગેરે લાવેલા તે ધરાવ્યા.

શ્રીજી મહારાજની સાચી કૃપા અને સંસારનું સુખ
એકવાર શ્રીહરિ વડતાલમાં બીરાજતા હતા, એ વખતે સુરતથી સંઘ દર્શને આવ્યો. બધાએ ભાવે થી દર્શન કર્યા ને મહારાજ સારુ વસ્ત્ર આભૂષણ વગેરે લાવેલા તે ધરાવ્યા ને સભામા બેઠા, શ્રીજીમહારાજે બધાના ખબર અંતર ને વ્યવહારે કેમ છો એ પૃશ્નો પુછયા. એ સમયે સુરત થી આવેલા ગોવિંદ શેઠે શ્રીહરિને પૃશ્ન પુછયો કે હે મહારાજ ! તમે કૃપા કરો તો સુખિયા થાઇએ.” પછી શ્રીહરિ બોલ્યા કે “ગોવિંદ શેઠ, અમે તો ત્યાગી છઇ ને આ વખતે તો બધાને નખશીખ નિવાર્સનિક કરી ને અક્ષરધામમાં લઈ જાવા ને સારુ આ દિવ્ય રીત ચલાવી છે. માટે જો અમે કૃપા કરશું તો દીકરો મરી જાશે, સ્ત્રી નો નાશ થઈ જાશે ને દ્રવ્યાદિક નાશ પામી જાશે ઇત્યાદિ સંસાર સંબંધી સુખ નાશ પામી જાશે.” ત્યારે ગોવિંદ શેઠ હસ્યા ને બોલ્યા કે “ હે મહારાજ…! અમે તો રયા સંસારી તે અમારે તો આ વિના કેમ ચાલે, એ સંસાર સરખો ચાલે છે તો તમારા ને આ સંતોના દરશ-સ્પરશ નો સંબધ સહેજે રહે છે. તમારી કૃપા તમારી પાસે રાખો, અમારે એ કૃપા જોઈતી નથી.” ત્યારે શ્રીહરિ હસતા હસતા બોલ્યા કે “અમે આપી તે પાછી લેતા નથી.” ત્યારે ગોવિંદ શેઠ બોલ્યા કે “અમારે જોઈતી જ નથી ને…!” પછી મહારાજ રાજી થઈને એમ બોલ્યા કે “જાઓ તમને વર્ષ દહાડે બસો રૃપિયા મળશે, ને વ્યવહારે સુખી થાશો”.
એવી જ રીતે ગઢપુરમાં રાજબાઈએ શ્રીહરિને એમ પૂછયું જે, “મહારાજ તમો ભક્ત ઉપર રાજી થાવ છો ત્યારે કોઈને હાર આપો છો, કોઈને થાળ આપો છો, કોઈકને વસ્ત્ર આપો છો; પણ તમે ખરેખરા અંતરમાંથી રાજી થાવ છો ત્યારે તે ભક્તને શું આપો છો?” ત્યારે શ્રીહરિ બોલ્યા કે “અમે ખરેખરા અંતરમાંથી રાજી થઈએ ત્યારે તો તે ભક્તને અમારા વિના ક્યાંય બંધાવા દઈએ નહીં. તે જો એ ભક્તને પુત્રમાં હેત હોય તો તેનો નાશ કરી નાખીએ, ને જો દ્રવ્યમાં પ્રીતિ હોય તો તે દ્રવ્યનો નાશ કરી નાખીએ, ને જો તેને દેહમાં આસક્તિ હોય તો તેમાં એવો રોગ પ્રેરીએ તે એ ભક્તને કોઈ સંસારિક પદાર્થમાં પ્રીતિ રહે નહીં. ત્યાં દષ્ટાંત છે. જેમ હાડકું હોય ને તેને છ મહિના પૃથ્વીમાં દાટ્યું હોય ને તેને પછી બહાર કાઢીએ તો તેને કોઈ કીડી, મકોડો તથા માખી કોઈ ચઢે નહિ. તેમ તેને સંસારમાંથી લૂખો કરી મેલીએ. તે કેવળ અમારા સામું જ જુએ. ને કોઈને સંસારિક પદાર્થ આપીએ છીએ, તે તો સત્સંગના સમાસને અર્થે આપીએ છીએ, પણ એ આસકિત કે વાસના રહે એવું આપવું એ અમને પ્રિય નથી.”

श्रीजी महाराज की सच्ची कृपा और सांसारिक सुख
एक बार श्रीहरि वडताल में विराजमान थे। उस समय सूरत से भक्तों का संघ दर्शन हेतु आया। सभी ने बड़े भाव से दर्शन किए और महाराज के लिए जो वस्त्र, आभूषण आदि लाए थे, वे भेंट किए और सभा में बैठ गए। श्रीजी महाराज ने सभी से कुशल-क्षेम पूछा और उनके व्यावहारिक हालचाल जाने। उस समय सूरत से आए गोविंद सेठ ने श्रीहरि से प्रार्थना की, “हे महाराज! यदि आप कृपा करें तो हम सुखी हो जाएँ।” तब श्रीहरि बोले, “गोविन्द सेठ! हम तो त्यागी हैं और इस बार तो सभी को नख-शिख निर्वासनिक (समस्त वासनाओं से मुक्त) करके अक्षरधाम ले जाने के लिए ही यह दिव्य मार्ग प्रारंभ किया है। इसलिए यदि हम कृपा करेंगे, तो पुत्र की मृत्यु हो जाएगी, पत्नी नष्ट हो जाएगी, धन-संपत्ति नष्ट हो जाएगी और इस प्रकार समस्त सांसारिक सुख विलीन हो जाएँगे।” यह सुनकर गोविंद सेठ हँसकर बोले, “हे महाराज! हम ठहरे संसारी मनुष्य, हमारे लिए इन सबके बिना कैसे चलेगा? यदि यह संसार ठीक-ठाक चलता है, तभी तो आपका और इन संतों का दर्शन एवं सान्निध्य सहज ही बना रहता है। इसलिए अपनी कृपा आप अपने पास ही रखिए, हमें ऐसी कृपा नहीं चाहिए!” तब श्रीहरि हँसते हुए बोले, “हमने जो कृपा दे दी, उसे हम वापस नहीं लेते।” तब गोविंद सेठ ने कहा, “परंतु हमें तो यह चाहिए ही नहीं…!” फिर महाराज ने प्रसन्न होकर कहा, “जाओ, तुम्हें प्रतिवर्ष दो सौ रुपये की प्राप्ति होगी और तुम व्यावहारिक रूप से सुखी रहोगे।”
उसी प्रकार गढ़पुर में राजबाई ने श्रीहरि से पूछा, “हे महाराज! जब आप किसी भक्त पर प्रसन्न होते हैं, तब किसी को हार देते हैं, किसी को थाल देते हैं, तो किसी को वस्त्र भेंट करते हैं; परंतु जब आप अपने अंतःकरण से अत्यंत प्रसन्न होते हैं, तब उस भक्त को क्या प्रदान करते हैं?” तब श्रीहरि बोले, “जब हम अंतःकरण से सच्चे मन से प्रसन्न होते हैं, तब उस भक्त को अपने सिवा अन्य कहीं भी बँधने नहीं देते। यदि उस भक्त का पुत्र में मोह हो तो हम उसका नाश कर देते हैं; यदि धन में प्रीति हो तो उस धन को नष्ट कर देते हैं; और यदि उसे देह में आसक्ति हो तो उसमें ऐसा रोग प्रेरित कर देते हैं जिससे उस भक्त का किसी भी सांसारिक पदार्थ में अनुराग न रहे। इसका दृष्टांत यह है—जैसे किसी सूखी हड्डी को छह महीने तक धरती में गाड़ दिया जाए और फिर उसे बाहर निकाला जाए, तो उस पर कोई चींटी, मकोड़ा या मक्खी नहीं बैठती। उसी प्रकार हम उस भक्त को संसार की दृष्टि से सर्वथा रूखा और विरक्त कर देते हैं, जिससे वह केवल हमारी ओर ही देखता रहे। और जो हम किसी को सांसारिक वस्तुएँ या वैभव देते हैं, वह तो केवल सत्संग के निर्वाह और सुविधा के लिए देते हैं; परंतु जिससे सांसारिक आसक्ति या वासना बढ़े, ऐसा देना हमें कदापि प्रिय नहीं है।”

Shriji Maharaj’s True Grace and Worldly Happiness
Once, Shri Hari was gracing Vadtal with His divine presence. At that time, a congregation (sangh) of devotees arrived from Surat for His darshan. Everyone devoutly had Maharaj’s darshan, offered the garments and ornaments they had brought for Him, and sat in the divine assembly. Shriji Maharaj inquired about their well-being and daily affairs. During the conversation, Govind Sheth from Surat prayed to Shri Hari, “O Maharaj! If You shower Your grace upon us, we shall be truly happy.” Shri Hari replied, “Govind Sheth, We are ascetics (tyagis), and in this incarnation, We have established this divine path specifically to make everyone completely free of all desires (nirvasanik) from head to toe and take them to Akshardham. Therefore, if We shower Our true grace upon you, your son may pass away, your wife may perish, your wealth and properties may be destroyed, and all your worldly happiness will vanish.” Hearing this, Govind Sheth laughed and said, “O Maharaj! We are householders; how could we manage without these things? Only when the household functions smoothly can we easily maintain our connection with You and the holy saints through darshan and divine association. Please keep Your grace with Yourself; we do not want that kind of grace!” Shri Hari smiled and said, “What We have bestowed, We do not take back.” Govind Sheth replied, “But we don’t want it at all…!” Pleased by his simple honesty, Maharaj said, “Go, you will earn two hundred rupees each year and will remain happy in your worldly affairs.”
Similarly, in Gadhpur, Rajbai once asked Shri Hari, “Maharaj, when You are pleased with a devotee, You grant a garland to someone, a sanctified meal (thaal) to another, or garments to someone else; but when You are truly pleased from the very depth of Your heart, what do You bestow upon that devotee?” Shri Hari replied, “When We are genuinely pleased from the depths of Our heart, We never let that devotee become attached to anything other than Us. If that devotee has attachment to a son, We take the son away; if there is love for wealth, We destroy that wealth; and if there is attachment to the physical body, We induce such an ailment that the devotee loses all taste and fondness for worldly objects. There is an apt analogy: if a dry bone is buried underground for six months and then dug out, no ant, insect, or fly will ever be attracted to it. In the same way, We render the devotee completely detached and indifferent to the worldly allurements, so that their gaze remains fixed solely upon Us. Whenever We grant worldly objects to anyone, it is merely to facilitate their practice of Satsang; but to grant things that foster mundane attachment or worldly desires (vasana) is never pleasing to Us.”
