કચ્છના વાંઢીયા ગામે દેવશી લૂહારને ઘેર વણતેડ્યા પધારી શ્રીહરિએ ટાઢા રોટલાનો ટુકડો જમવો, મુળજી બ્રહ્મચારીને કાવડની સેવા દ્વારા ઘસાયેલા ખભાનું લોહી બતાવી નિઃસ્વાર્થ સેવાની કદર કરવી.
એક સમયે પૂર્ણપુરુષોત્તમ ભગવાન શ્રીસ્વામિનારાયણ મુળજી બ્રહ્મચારી સાથે કચ્છ દેશના ભચાઉ તાલુકાના વાંઢીયા ગામે પધાર્યા. ગામની મુખ્ય બજારમાંથી પસાર થતાં થતાં અચાનક દેવશી લૂહારની ખડકી આવતાં શ્રીજીમહારાજ સીધા અંદર દાખલ થયા અને ઓસરીમાં પોતાના હાથે ખાટલો ઢાળીને બિરાજમાન થયા!
દેવશી લૂહાર કોઢમાં ધમણ ચલાવી પોતાનું કામ કરતા હતા. અજાણ્યા દિવ્ય તેજોમય અતિથિને આંગણે આવેલા જોઈ તેઓ તુરંત દોડી આવ્યા અને પાણિયારેથી ઠંડા જળનો લોટો ભરી પ્રભુને જળપાન કરાવ્યું. શ્રીહરિએ કહ્યું, “લૂહાર ભગત ! અમે માર્ગે પસાર થતા હતા અને ખૂબ ભૂખ લાગી છે, ઘરમાં જે કંઈ તૈયાર હોય તે જમવા આપો.”
દેવશી લૂહારે બે હાથ જોડી નમ્ર ભાવે કહ્યું: “મહારાજ ! આપ તો કોઈ મોટા દેવપુરુષ જેવા પવિત્ર લાગો છો. ઘરમાં તો સવારના ટાઢા રોટલાના ટુકડા પડ્યા છે, તે આપ જેવા મહાપુરુષને કેમ પીરસાય? આપ ઘડીક વિશ્રામ કરો તો હું તરત શીરો-પૂરીની તાજી રસોઈ બનાવી જમાડું!” પરંતુ શ્રીહરિએ અત્યંત પ્રેમથી આગ્રહ કર્યો: “અમને અત્યારે ખૂબ ભૂખ લાગી છે, માટે એ જ ટાઢા રોટલાનો ટુકડો આપો.” ભક્તે ભાવપૂર્વક રોટલાનો ટુકડો ધર્યો, જે શ્રીહરિ અમૃત સમાન માની આરોગી ગયા! ત્યારબાદ લૂહારે બનાવેલો ગરમાગરમ શીરો-પૂરી પણ મુળજી બ્રહ્મચારીએ થાળ કરીને જમાડ્યો.
ભોજન પછી મુળજી બ્રહ્મચારીએ આશ્ચર્યથી પૂછ્યું: “હે મહારાજ ! આ લૂહારના એવાં તે કયાં અહોભાગ્ય કે આપે વણતેડ્યે તેના આંગણે આવી સ્વહસ્તે ખાટલો ઢાળ્યો અને તેના ટાઢા રોટલાના ટુકડા આરોગ્યા? આવી અસીમ કૃપા કેમ વરસી?”
શ્રીહરિએ કહ્યું: “બ્રહ્મચારીજી ! આ લૂહાર ભગતના ખભા પરથી પહેરણ હટાવીને જુઓ, એટલે રહસ્ય સમજાશે.” બ્રહ્મચારીએ જોયું તો લૂહારના ખભાની ચામડી ઘસાઈને લોહીના ચાંઠા પડી ગયા હતા!
શ્રીજીમહારાજે મહિમા પ્રગટ કરતાં કહ્યું: “આ દેવશી લૂહાર દરરોજ ગામડે ગામડે કાવડ ખભે ઉપાડી રોટલાની ભિક્ષા માંગે છે અને સાધુ-સંતો તથા ગરીબ અભ્યાગતોને જમાડે છે! કાવડના ભારે તેના ખભાની ચામડી છોલાઈ ગઈ છે. તેની આ અજોડ અને નિઃસ્વાર્થ સેવાથી અતિ પ્રસન્ન થઈને આજે અમે પોતે ચાલીને તેના ઘેર આવ્યા છીએ અને તેના ભિક્ષાના રોટલાનો ટુકડો આરોગી તેને અક્ષરધામના અધિકારી બનાવ્યા છે!” પ્રભુએ લૂહાર ભક્તને ચતુર્ભુજ સ્વરૂપે દર્શન આપી કૃતાર્થ કર્યા.

वांधिया में देवशी लुहार की निःस्वार्थ सेवा और कावड़ उठाने से घिसे कंधे का रहस्य
कच्छ के वांधिया गांव में श्रीजीमहाराज मूलजी ब्रह्मचारी के साथ देवशी लुहार के घर पधारे। प्रभु ने स्वयं चारपाई बिछाई और भूख लगने पर लुहार से जो भी उपलब्ध हो वह भोजन मांगा।
लुहार ने कहा कि घर में केवल सुबह के ठंडे रोटले के टुकड़े हैं, अतः वे ठहरें ताकि वह शीरा-पूरी बना सके। किंतु प्रभु के आग्रह पर उन्होंने वही सूखा टुकड़ा अर्पित किया, जिसे श्रीहरि ने अमृत तुल्य मानकर ग्रहण किया। तत्पश्चात शीरा-पूरी भी आरोगी।
ब्रह्मचारीजी के पूछने पर कि इस साधारण लुहार पर इतनी अहेतुकी कृपा क्यों, श्रीहरि ने लुहार का कंधा दिखाया, जहां चमड़ी घिसकर घाव हो चुका था। प्रभु ने बताया: “यह भक्त प्रतिदिन कंधे पर कावड़ उठाकर भिक्षा मांगता है और साधु-अभ्यागतों को भोजन कराता है। इस निःस्वार्थ सेवा से रीझकर हम स्वयं इसके घर भोजन करने आए हैं!” प्रभु ने उसे दिव्य दर्शन देकर कृतार्थ किया।

Devshi Luhar of Vandhiya: Selfless Service, Shoulder Wounded by Alms-Basket, and Shreehari’s Grace
Accompanied by Mulji Brahmachari, Bhagwan Swaminarayan visited the village of Vandhiya in the Bhachau taluka of Kutch. Walking through the central street, Shreeji Maharaj unexpectedly entered the doorway of Devshi Luhar, personally unfolded a simple rope-cot on the veranda, and sat down!
Devshi Luhar, working diligently at his blacksmith furnace, dropped his tools upon spotting the radiant ascetic guests. Rushing forward, he reverently offered a vessel of refreshing water. Shreehari remarked: “Luhar Bhakta! We were passing by and felt intense hunger; pray bring whatever food is immediately available.”
Devshi folded his hands in genuine humility: “O holy Master! You appear like an enlightened celestial being. In my humble home, only coarse, cold leftover bajra rotlas from the morning remain; how can I offer such scraps to You? Pray rest while I quickly prepare fresh puris and sweet shira!” But Shreehari lovingly insisted: “We are extremely hungry right now; serve Us that very piece of dry rotlo!” Devshi lovingly presented the dried bread, which Shreehari relished as divine ambrosia! Subsequently, when the fresh shira and puris were cooked, Mulji Brahmachari offered them as a devotional feast.
Later, Mulji Brahmachari inquired with astonishment: “O Maharaj! What extraordinary merit does this humble blacksmith possess that You entered uninvited, unfolded Your own cot, and joyfully devoured his cold dry crusts?”
Shreehari replied: “Brahmachariji! Pull aside his shirt and inspect his shoulder; then you will understand.” Brahmachari looked and was startled to find the skin on Devshi’s shoulder severely abraded, with raw bleeding wounds!
Shreeji Maharaj unveiled the devotee’s sacred sacrifice: “Every single day, this devout blacksmith shoulders a heavy alms-basket (kavad), walking tirelessly from village to village begging for grain, purely to cook and feed visiting sadhus, ascetics, and destitute pilgrims! Carrying this heavy yoke has worn his skin down to the bone. Thrilled by his pure, selfless compassion, We walked uninvited to his doorstep today to relish his consecrated morsels and bestow eternal salvation upon him!” Shreehari then revealed His transcendental divine form, establishing Devshi in eternal liberation.
